Walking in at 6pm on a Saturday night, there was no wait, which is a rarity here in DuPont Circle. It started to fill up around 7, but still maintained its laid back atmosphere. The wait staff was extremely friendly and attentive, and even provided blankets for us as we sat outside. The food was good, but the portion size was a little disappointing. I got the pounded chicken for $16.99, and while the flavor was there, it reminded me of a most basic greens salad with chicken. We also got the white sangria, which was good. They have happy hour from 5-7, but it is only offered in the bar. We didn't know this, so we requested to sit outside, only to be disappointed when our server told us the happy hour did not apply to us. I may come back and try something else for sure. read more

Went in at 12:30pm on a Sunday and it was pretty empty (it filled up around 1:30). I got the prosciutto omelet which came with breakfast potatoes. The breakfast potatoes were dry, but the seasoning was good. The prosciutto omelet itself was great, with mushrooms and some other veggies and very filling and flavorful. Our water glasses were frequently refilled, though as customers filed in service noticeably slowed down a lot -- it seemed like there was only one or two waiters running around. We used the yelp free tiramisu (only one per table) which was enough for the two of us and tasted ok. The ambience was spacious and not too loud, which was a plus. Docked a couple of stars for the flavor of the food, but overall a filling and decent meal in a relaxing environment! read more

Last night I met up with 6 friends for dinner. I asked to sit outside and was told that Sette doesn't usually sit 7 people at one table outside. However, Amy, a manager, told me she would see what she could do. She was very helpful and sincere and kept me posted while we waited for the rest of the party. When everyone arrived we were seated outside at a great table. THANKS AMY! I highly recommend their ravioli, salads, and all the desserts. Bought a Living Social coupon for bottomless bellinis. They were indeed bottomless and we were never left dry...but there was HARDLY any champagne in the drink. After six I felt like I had had one. Food..another story. Was cooked ok but you wait..and wait..and wait. The outside tables are too close together. We felt like we were in the way of the other couple seated at, for all intents and purposes, a 4 top with us. Waitress was very gracious and attentive. A bright star in the experience. Overall, wonderful brunch experience! I booked this reservation on a whim, remembering that I had a Capitol Deal that was expiring on March 31, 2013. With one day left, I needed to use this. Reading my confirmation, I realized that this date was only offering a special Easter menu. I called and spoke to a manager who was friendly and willing to make an exception and allow me to use my deal. Perfect! Everything was delish, best breakfast home fries I've ever had. Can't figure out the vibe here; seems like it's trying to be classy but that's offset by the flatscreens set to sports channels. Strange dining experience. The food was just okay and our server seemed like she was annoyed with the world. It wants to be Italian but is not. The pizza I got, while tasty, was kinda sad. It had four topping on it so I assumed they'd be mixed all over the face of the pie, but instead were divided into quarters. And the ham section was soaking wet. I had to sop up the liquid with my napkin. But again, I wasn't totally dissapointed! And my boyfriend enjoyed his salad. Just odd. There were like 80 bus boys/food runners, too which seemed unnecessary but I'm no restaurant manager...speaking of which, she (the manager) was very odd. Stopped in mid-afternoon on a Thursday, pretty much everything in the vicinity was not yet open. We were just about the only people there, so had the friendly and efficient server all to ourselves. I ordered the fettucine bolognese and my friend ordered the crabcake sandwich. Both very tasty and completely devoured. Reasonable $. They have a very nice selection of pastas, pizza and italian sandwiches as well as salads and appetizers. They brought out a basket of warm bread and the oil and grated cheese, very much appreciated. We were starving so ate pretty much every last crumb. It was chilly and rainy so no outdoor patio for us, but it looked really cute, hope to come back sometime and sit outside. read more

After my second helping I'm not sure that I would come back again for the Lasagna, which was served a little on the cool side and certain bits seemed a little chewier than they should have been. Walking around Dupont on Friday around 9pm my 3 girlfriends and I couldn't find a place to eat a nice dinner without a wait of over an hour until we came here. With the great location of this restaurant and the fact we could sit right away with the choice of where to sit in the restaurant - not a good sign. I ordered the special with sausage and broccoli rabe. Did not think there would be pieces of broccoli in the sausage which was kind of strange and the whole thing just wasn't very good. I went here for bottomless brunch with my boyfriend. We had gotten a capitol deal for it. Overall it was a good experience. We got the smoked salmon and crabcakes and thought they were both great. Also, the bread they bring out to start was very good. They had two types of mimosas which were both good, although they could have been heavier on the champagne. The only downside was the service. Our mimosa glasses were empty more than they were full. Sometimes even our water glasses were empty for a while. We sat on the patio and it seemed that only our waiter could refill the mimosas. I have eaten at Sette Osteria twice now within the last year (once in Summer and now once in Fall). Overall I rate it as decent Italian food that is a bit overpriced - the fettuccine bolognese was ok (not the worst I have ever had, but certainly not the best). The wine list is adequate, though I would like to see more wines by the glass. The bread basket is actually some very tasty flatbread that seems to be the same as their pizza dough. It is enjoyable with some olive oil, and each time I have eaten here I seem to chow down a bunch of it. I wasn't overly impressed with the gelato for dessert - very ordinary. Salads are a refreshing surprise. Ambience is nice as well. read more

Struggling to give even three stars here.. Having walked by Sette Osteria a few times and heard positive recommendations for their happy hour, I brought an out-of-town girlfriend here for dinner one Friday night. No wait to be seated outside which was nice - it is visually unremarkable on the inside, and laid out a little bit like a Chili's (low tables, wooden chairs, I don't remember seeing table cloths inside but I could be wrong, a good number of children). We ordered wine, the cheese plate, a salad to share and a pasta to share. Although we ordered everything at once, I reiterated that we wanted the cheese and wine first, then salad and then pasta. May have sounded overly cautious but it's better to be safe than sorry. And we were sorry. First came the cheese plate (Excellent, by the way!) - but we had barely started on the cheese plate and then our wine, salad and pasta all arrived at once. After asking two times for small plates so we could share and not getting them, we ended up just splitting it all on one plate. What a mess. The salad was fine for what it was but the pasta was overcooked and really heavy but lacked any good flavor. We were also rushed (probably part of getting all of our food at once) - it was not the nice relaxing meal I had hoped for. Probably won't return. read more

My husband and I decided to eat here for New Years Eve and we are both so glad that we did. I ordered the carbonara which was creamy without being oily & rich without being heavy. The noodles were cooked perfectly & they didn't skimp on the pancetta. My husband ordered braciole di maiale and his pork chop was so tender he cut it without a knife. The shank had obviously previously dried out and just had sauce added - a sauce that didn't go well with the risotto but was served on it. So today I had brunch at this restaurant for my friends birthday. We were seated and not checked on for about 10 minutes. The waitress finally came to us about 20 minutes later and I noticed that they didn't have a bartender to make mimosas or bellinis. Waitress was making those. Our waitress didn't greet us to say hello & the first thing she asked was if we were splitting the bill. Which was irritating since we had to wait about 20 minutes to be taken care of. Our drinks took forever to come out. We sat down at 2:06 and by 2:35 still didn't receive our drinks. Customer service needs a lot of work. I noticed that everyone around us was getting served except us. When we finally got our drinks aluminum foil from champagne bottle was in the mimosa twice. Food was actually very good. I got the shrimp omelette with a side of bacon and it was really good. Our waitress tried to tell us that our bday friend couldn't get a birthday dessert because me and my other friend got 2 complimentary desserts from Yelp. I honestly would never come back this this restaurant ever. The employees need a lesson in better customer service. read more

I seem to end up here a lot for dinner with my group of friends. I like that they are a reasonably priced large portion restaurant. I love sitting outside. The woman who works the front desk on Friday nights is super nice. I did not like the Cacio E Pepe. The wrong noodle was used and there was hardly any cheese in it, I had to pour the whole shredded cheese plate on it. The White chocolate/Pistachio mousse/Pistachio gelato dessert is delicious! The place is always full but the tables are so close together it's hard to walk around to the bathroom. read more

A group of 8 friends and I ate here yesterday and had some of the worst service I've ever had at a restaurant. We had a 5pm reservation and the service was so slow (which is bizarre considering we were one of 3 parties in the entire place). Took us more than 30 minutes to get one appetizer since the waiter forgot to put our order in. Then once we put our orders in for entrees, it took at least another 45 minutes to get them. All this would have been fine if they had given us bread and re-filled our drinks, but getting the waiter to even come over to us was impossible. When it came time to split the bill, the waiter did it completely wrong and double charged my husband's credit card (once for $1,003 instead of $103... neither of those were the correct amount but at least $103 was closer). While there were no real complaints about the food, but the service was so poor I would not recommend eating here if you want food in any timely fashion. read more

We started with the lightly fruited wine Montepulciano from the Abruzzo region of Italy's hill country. It was very mellow. Our appetizer was the Suppli & Croccehette - Rice balls coated with bread crumbs stuffed with mozzarella and potato gorgonzola crocchette on a bed of greens. A little dipping sauce would have made them even more flavorful and moist. Last night's veal scaloppine was fantastic! The light, just right brown sauce with capers was tasty but not over powering. The veal was tender and tasty. The serving size was ample and the accompanying spinach was the perfect addition to compliment the caper sauce on the veal. I highly recommend Sette Osteria based on the great food and gracious service. We will be repeat customers on our next visit to the Capitol. read more

A perfectly adequate Italian experience. I've been here 2 or 3 times and barely remember anything about it. Now, I grew up bordering New Haven, CT, with a Sicilian babysitter who cooked half my meals as a child, and I've lived in Italy for a short stretch, so I am absolutely snooty about this stuff, no apologies. But you know what? Exceptional Italian food is REALLY easy to do, and this place doesn't do it. The place is quite nice and the service is certainly good. On a nice night, the outdoor seating might actually tip the scales in its favor. I went last night with my girlfriend. The fried calamari was actually very good, though the conspicuous absence of a lemon was kind of weird. They were out of the first two things my girlfriend ordered. She ended up with a smoked mozz, linguini, eggplant and something else dish that was not very good - the pasta was overdone, and combined with the mozz, made everything the same texture. Bleh. My dish of pasta, sausage and broccoli rabe was much better, but still just ok. I enjoyed it, but the pasta was again a bit overcooked, and I easily could have made better at home. I probably will next time. Along with a carafe of ok-but-forgettable house Chianti, the bill was $65. For $40, I would have called this an ok meal, but as it is... eh. read more

The ambiance was great. Happy hour menu was wonderful. My friend and i went to the late night happy hour that begins at 9pm, the customer service we received was horrible. Since happy hour is only at the bar, our waiter/the bartender did not attend to us. We had to flag him down to put our order in, and to get a refill on drinks. During the last 20 minutes of happy hour, he was having a detailed conversation with another customer, we attempted to get his attention, however, he ignored us though he saw us. When he finally attended to us, he said we missed happy hour and could not get a refill. He gave us the refill because he realized "happy hour was still going on", however he did not take accountability nor apologize for not being available. He was low on the low patience side, and was very disrespectful to his assistant/bus boy. Beware of sitting outside here. We sat on the patio and cockroaches crawled all over our table, the walls next to our table and onto our plates. The server never offered to move our table, even with ample indoor and outdoor seating. Nor did they even apologize or comp a single thing. I was with a group of people that work in the restaurant business and they were appalled that they couldn't even move us or offer a single apology of any kind. We ordered the Mozzarella Alla Caprese as an appetizer, it was fresh and proportionally well prepared. Thick slices of tomato, fresh mozzarella and a large basil leaf, lightly salted.. Delish.. Main course included lasagna classico and fettuccini alfredo, with a kids mini margehrita pizza. First of all, we were pleased the restaurant has options for children. The staff made us feel welcome with a child, which is why Sette Osteria gets the 5th Star. The lasagna was a large piece, very tasty. I'd say meat was seasoned with oregano or some other like seasoning, it did not disappoint. I had the fettuccini alfredo, which was some of best I've had in a long time. The sauce was not too runny nor thick, had a creamy consistency, probably better than most. I added the chicken with the pasta and my only gripe was that the proportion didn't fit the price ($7+). I'm not cheap by any means but I want to know I am getting my monies worth. That being said, I will say the meal was a little pricy but the portion sizes were just right (except for the added pollo). We ended taking out the pizza. I had opted for an Italian grapefruit soda, it was a little tangy and I would imagine the other soda options were as well. Unfortunately they were out of the lemonade. Probably should've just ordered a water. Cant say much about about anything else but the atmosphere was very casual and inviting. The staff was friendly and there always seemed to be somebody attentive to any dining needs, which was nice for once. We've all been to places where the staff was too eager or simply disappeared once the food was delivered. I'd say their service was as good as it gets. On a final note, I was impressed with the bread that came out before the meal. It was a better than average sliced flat bread served with table top olive oil. They had a visible brick oven and it was evident that it was a product of old school baking. The bread was a good quality and it was served warm, and best of all it was complimentary. We tried this place out for restaurant week, which happened to fall on our 7th wedding anniversary. Service- we had a really sweet/attentive waitress; couldn't have asked for more Atmosphere - we asked to sit outside and it was nice. As a couple, they did not seat us too close to other couples - thank you! It started sprinkling at the end of the meal, but we were covered well with the canopy. Food - delicious! I loved the arugula salad with just the right amount of dressing. Salmon dish was delicious and husband loved his roast chicken. I had the cheesecake and husband had apple tort for dessert. Both were delicious, but I think I'd have to go for the apple one next time. To top it off, management sent us 2 glasses of campaign and 2 staff people (manager and hostess?) stopped by our table to wish us a happy anniversary. That was a nice touch. I had lunch with a friend this past Monday. We stopped on a whim and am I glad we did. It's a charming place on the corner with some nicely hidden outside seating. We were greeted warmly and allowed to choose where we wanted to sit. Our server came up two us with a smile, a water pitcher and menus. She introduced us as she pored water,told us about the luncheon specials and took our drink order. They have a very nice selection of beer, both bottles and on draught (draft) and a nice selection of wines both by glass and half and full bottles. When she returned with our drinks she took our order and gave us some bread, which were little squares baked in a pizza over and slightly charred along with some olive oil for dipping. Delicious! And, addicting. The extensive menu is nice as it allows you to have half plates of almost all entrees. A good selection of salad, pizzas and entrees. I had a spicy (arribiata) sauce over pasta and it was fabulous. Just spicy enough for me (I like hot) and the right amount, considering the bread I put away. My companion had a salad, which she enjoyed very much. She said the lettuce was crisp and the dressing divine. The service was wonderful. Right there when you needed them but not overly present. We lingered for several hours and had a wonderful time. we were checked upon about every 15 minutes, which was appropriate. My family and I went here in December. The food was greasy and expensive. The waiter did not seem to understand much English (and I have no accent, whatsoever), so when I ordered the Chianti wine that my mom, sister, and I wanted to share, I had to point to it on the menu. I asked for the $25 bottle of Chianti. Upon returning home and seeing that we were charged $34 for the bottle of Chianti, I found out from looking online that the $25 Chianti was only for half a bottle. I wish our waiter would have corrected me when I ordered it and said that the $25 one is only half a bottle, but if I want a whole bottle of Chianti, it would be $34 instead. He did not do this, but instead just charged us for the whole bottle amount and gave us a whole bottle of wine. The way that their wine menu was set up at the time was confusing. The wine list went as follows: Prosecco White Wines - It was unclear which ones were prices per glass and per bottle (cheapest - $8, most expensive - $175) White Wines (half bottle) Red Wines (half bottle) Red Wines - The most expensive wine on this list was $12 Seeing that the most expensive wine on the list of Red Wines was only $12, I assumed that it was not for an entire bottle. Therefore, I ordered what I assumed was the whole bottle of Chianti from the more expensive Red Wine list, which apparently was only for the half bottle. I'm not sure if there was a whole bottle list of Red Wine separate from the other ones on the back of the menu or somewhere else, but the whole menu was just very confusing. Anyone could have made this mistake. However, like I said, I wish the waiter would have corrected me or let me know that I was reading the menu incorrectly. My mother wrote a review about this incident, but was assured that she made a mistake and wrote about the wrong restaurant. They sent her a link to their menu which looked very different from the menu that we saw when we went there. I don't know if the menu has been changed, updated, or altered, but the restaurant made a complaint about my mother's review and her review was deleted. read more
