Great outside patio, but average service. The mozzarella & tomato salad was underwhelming for $15, but tasty just the same. The pizza in the wood fired oven was great and the other items we order were good, but nothing to bring us back. Overall, we enjoyed our experience at Sette Osteria. However, the selling point was the fabulous weather and being seated on their outdoor patio. The patio was 100% occupied with only one or two tables inside were occupied. I think we would have had a much different experience if we were inside. There's nothing like a beautiful warm crisp summer evening to set the mood. So a plus for the location. But it ends there. I do have to comment that when I made my way to the restroom which passes through the kitchen area it smelled terrible. Like an old dirty fish market. It was very off putting. They do serve seafood, but I can't imagine it should reek that badly. I can't help but wonder if it was a sanitary issue. Be warned and I recommend getting a table outside if you decide to dine here. Our server was pleasant and we had no complaints. She was pleasant, attentive, and we didn't have any issues. They brought out a generous bread basket that was a cross between pita and focaccia. Not as thick and pillowy as focaccia but not has thin as pita. It actually might just be pita. I was hoping for some warm crusty baguette but this isn't that type of Italian restaurant. The bread did come with sides of parmesan and dried red pepper flakes. Which we added to some olive oil that was already sitting on the table to make our own dipping sauce. For my meal I got the seafood linguini with a fresh tomato sauce. The portion was just right. It had an array of small shrimp, strips of calamari, and a few mussels and tiny clams. It was nice and delicate, didn't have a strong seafood odor (like I smelled earlier) and the fresh tomato sauce paired well. Not too overpowering or salty it was good. Overall I enjoyed my dish but I wouldn't say it was my favorite or rush to order it again. It was well done but nothing extraordinary. I wouldn't say this is my favorite Italian restaurant in DC but it's not the worst either. I wouldn't overlook it but I wouldn't put it on my must see list. It's good and if weather and service continues to be good then I'd happily return for a good decent meal. read more

We had a very dissapointing experience in this allegedly Italian restaurant Sunday evening, the staff seems to be utterly clueless, the host dash manager had a a dispute with one of his staffers- very unprofessional. The so called eggplant parmesan was unrecognizable, as it was so mashy, you would not know what you are eating. The beet salad was very underwhelming, please don't slice the beets- it's just wrong, cut them in cubes. Sangria is just red wine plus seven up plus few cut up apples. read more

We decided to give this place a try when we arrived for brunch at Bistro du Coin and realized they had not opened yet. We were very disappointed. Being one of two tables, the other of which was already eating, we thought would ensure quick service. wrong. To start, the bloody mary that I ordered took a team of no less than 3 servers to make and ended up tasting very bland and tomato-y. The croissants we ordered ( Pillsbury perhaps? ) were served without butter or jam and were cold by the time we were brought asked for jam and butter. And speaking of the jam.... we were brought two small single serve bottles of jam. The one I opened was full of MOLD. On to the entrees... I ordered the smoke salmon and cream cheese scrambled eggs and toast. I wish I would have taken a picture of what I was served! A pile of hot scrambled egg, a pile of freezing cold smoked salmon and a plastic single serve cup of cream cheese like you would get at a gas station and no toast. My boyfriend ordered eggs with provolone and ham and said he had never tasted such flavorless provolone. Needless to say we left most of our meals on the plate. All in all, the service was awkward and the mistakes so numerous it got embarrassing. The staff were self-aware enough to realize some of their mistakes and did remove the croissants from our bill but that being said we will probably not return. read more

Ate lunch with a friend this afternoon at Sette Osteria. It was my first visit and most certainly will be my last. I ordered the "Insalata di Barbabietole" for $11.95. The menu described it as follows: "Organic red beets and petite arugula salad with caramelized walnuts and goat cheese crostino, drizzled with balsamic reduction." I'd reckon that I got about one medium-to-large beet, sliced thin, with a tiny handful of arugula that wasn't as good as the organic arugula I can buy at Giant or Whole Foods. I think it had perhaps one "caramelized" walnut broken into bits, a "crostino" about the size of my thumb, and an oval-shaped piece of goat cheese that couldn't have been much longer than a quarter is wide. The "crostino" was not toasted. I can't comment on the "balsamic reduction" because all I got with my salad was a shaker-bottle of youngish vinegar. When I inquired, the waiter seemed to have no idea what I was asking about, and because I was with a friend who'd invited me there, I didn't press the matter. I probably should have an inkling about the whole meal when our glasses of club soda arrived with yellowish-brown limes perched on the rims of the glasses. Totally inexcusable. As was the rest of the experience. read more

My husband and I ate here while vacationing in DC. It was a close walk from our hotel in the Dupont Circle area and we thought we'd give it a try, especially since it had outdoor seating. My husband and I ordered one of the pizzas and a pasta dish, with the intention of sharing by swapping plates a few times during dinner. Our waiter must have thought we didn't like our dinners because our dishes were swapped when he came over I definitely sensed a change in his attitude toward us. Came here with some family the other week. As is typical in DC, it was difficult to find parking during rush hour, but we got lucky and were able to find a street space close to the restaurant. Our group had the prosciutto flatbread, the gnocchi, and one of the special flatbreads. My cousin got the special spinach gnocchi, which he said was extremely good, but I was surprised to see that it was ~$10 more than the standard gnocchi on the menu. My mother raved about her flatbread, which had some sort of steak on it that she said was very tender. My prosciutto flatbread was delicious, as well -- every bite of the meat was phenomenal. This is a cute little restaurant in Dupont Circle that has some tasty dishes. read more

I love the food at Sette, but wish the service was better. The gnocchi alla sorrentina have a great authentic milano flavor and the ravioli della nonna are done just right. (The savory sweet combination works particularly well here, I've seen butternut squash ravioli turn out extremely poorly at several other restaurants.) Aside from that, the service here can be very hit or miss. The host we had today was extremely snippy and somewhat rude. Our server was in an obviously bad mood and showed it with his snide attitude and remarks throughout brunch. He was very inattentive and left us consistently trying to get his attention. Walking in, and being treated poorly by both the host and the server left an overall bad taste in our mouths, which definitely overshadowed the enjoyment we had for the food. read more

Walking by Sette which had a lively atmosphere on a Monday night is what initially drew me in. The restaurant is very authentically Italian and has a great outdoor area. Our waiter was straight out of Italy (he was quite the romancer) and the decor was very cute. We went late on a Thursday night initially deciding to sit inside because of the threat of the rain. However, the air conditioning must not have been working and the 400 degree interior temperature forced us to switch outside despite the rain drops. The outdoor area was very pleasant - live music from the local bum made it an enjoyable time. However it started raining and we again switched back to inside - point is, the restaurant was very understanding. The waiter who brought the drinks made one of the jokes that he "couldn't bring bread" after we asked him for it which was reeeeal "funny," but despite the hilarious waiter the bread was pretty good. We ordered a mozzarella salad, pizza, and specialty pasta. We all agreed the pizza was the best part and I would definitely recommend getting that if you go. The other two dishes were definitely good but nothing to write home about. Overall the service was pretty slow but I guess thats authentically Italian, and the food was pretty good. I think the best part about it was the pizza and ambiance - so when you go just know that you are going to have a long dinner with waiters who may or may not try to be "funny" and/or aggressively romantic because of their italian nature. I haven't been able to eat pizza since going to Sette. I've been to Sette a few times in the past for pretty good pizza when I didn't feel like waiting for Paradiso. Service has always been poor (many times the servers do not understand English very well), but in this instance, I've determined I will never return. For my birthday, my partner organized a reservation for 12 of us. Oddly enough, even though the restaurant was near empty inside, the hostess would not seat us until everyone had arrived. But not a huge deal, it was a nice day so we waited outside (and eventually they sat us anyway after 10 minutes). We each ordered pizza, some of us the same pizza. I ordered the Quatre Stigoni (forgive the spelling) which according to the menu comes with Artichoke, Mushrooms, Sausage and Ham. I asked for them to hold the artichoke because I'm not a big fan. The server said no problem. About 30 minutes go by and our food comes out. Everyone receives their food. The problem is that my pizza has Artichoke, Sausage, Ham and Olives. I kindly asked the waiter why there was olives on my pizza and he said "that's what's on the menu". I replied "no, its not". The waiter then got the manager, who proceeded to argue with me over the ingredients on the pizza. We asked her to get the menu. A few minutes passed and another guy came back to the table (who I guess was also a manager) and said "Oh, well we just changed our menu and the chef is confused". Not my problem but whatever. I repeated my order again. About 10 minutes later my pizza returns. This time, it has Artichoke, Sausage, Ham and Mushrooms. Again with the Artichoke. The manager came and asked if everything was ok and again I said "no", a bit frustrated at this point. Begrudgingly, he took the pizza back. This is where it gets bad. 5 minutes later the pizza comes back - way too fast obviously. I check the pizza and it is a goupy, wet, soggy mess. I used my knife to move the mushrooms and sure enough, olive juice is everywhere. Under the other half of the pizza was Artichoke. Instead of making a new pizza, the chef decided it was ok to just scrape it off. I immediately told the server it was scraped off and he replied "no its not, I just saw him pull it out the oven". I told him to get the manager. After a small protest (or misunderstanding because he did not understand english), he left. After waiting about 10 minutes, the manager came and I showed her the disgusting pizza and told her that I was not paying for it nor would I eat anything else there. In the end she apologized and comp'ed two pizzas from our check. All that to say, I will never eat here again. Absolutely horrible service. I understand mistakes happen, but what matters is how you handle the mistakes. read more

My first time and was impressed with the food, ambiance and service. Reservations were confirmed for 12:30p however hostess was able to accommodate seating preference when arriving earlier at noon. Many patrons took advantage of the weather and used the patio tables. The waiter, Daniel, was very attentive offering delicious mini chocolate chip muffins before taking order. We ordered the fughi and smoked salmon omelettes w/ egg whites and bottomless Mimosas and Bellinis for brunch. I was told the bottomless Mimosas were good but not a lot of champagne. My Bellini was good and seemed strong but I am a non-drinker. The food was great - we both finished our plates, the omelettes were not too runny or too well and the salads were fresh. I observed other patrons completing their entire meal also. I took advantage of a $35 brunch for 2 Travelzoo.com offer and when confirming reservations on Opentable.com mentioned my friend's birthday as the dining occasion. After brunch, Daniel with two spoons and a single lit candle tiramisu, sang Happy Birthday to our surprise. So RICH tasting. When we received the bill, the dessert was comped. The waiter earned his 20% gratuity of the actual meal value ($65). I cannot wait to try dinner. I do not understand why Sette Osteria's reviews aren't higher. I attribute that to food snobbery run a muck in the metro area. This place made a great first impression and I plan to take my family when they visit Northern VA. If you are driving its best to take advantage of the 2 hour free parking and use R and S side streets and walk 2 blocks. read more

By far the worst overall dining experience I have ever had in DC. Skip this place for sure! I work in the restaurant industry and I understand everyone/restaurant has off days but this place was absolutely terrible. For starter the service was abysmal. We came in with a group of 6 women around 1:15 pm on a Saturday. The restaurant was pretty empty but they have outside dining so we decided to give it a try. It took FOREVER for a waiter to finally greet us and we left the restaurant after our meal still not knowing who our waiter was exactly! He brought drinks finally and bread later but never brought olive oil which I noticed was on every other table. We would have flagged him down but he was NO WHERE to be found. Occasionally I would ask the server assistants to get us something and they would say ok and take a page out of the server's book and NEVER return. When we finally ordered, I ordered the Sette omelet. It came out cold but at that point we all just wanted to get out of there. I read the reviews and wondered if maybe they are talking about a different place (I am pretty sure Lauren F. is, as there is no upstairs seating at Sette and they do not serve fettuccine Alfredo and Spaghetti with meatball, let alone spinach pizza). Anyway, I go there at least once per month. I've been here once for brunch and more recently for their happy hour on Monday. Generally their happy hour is until 7pm, but on Sundays & Mondays it's until 10pm. I wasn't able to stay that long, but I think that's fantastic for people that get out of work later or are only able to enjoy the last hour. They have a great selection of drinks and food that could keep you there for the entire 6 hours if you were so inclined. I'm excited for the next time I can indulge here! read more

I would not say that I didn't see this coming because I did. I had read the reviews on the very trust yelp and didn't listen. This cute corner spot seemed to scream "give me a chance! I will be better than you expect!" Unfortunately, this was not the case AT ALL. The food was so mediocre and pretty bland actually. I had the LINGUINI DELLA PARANZA. Though, the clams and mussels were cooked well, the tomato sauce that accompanied the linguini was incredibly blah. The service was also sub-par. No one seemed to know what was going on and by the end of the end, we honestly didn't even know who to tip since by the end we had been served by 4 different people (that I remember). It's definitely a skip on my list especially when the street is filled with some really awesome and adorable restaurants among which I am sure you will find a better option than this. read more

Delicious! I had the filet paired a Cabernet recommended by the server. Everything was excellent. The meat was cooked perfectly rare and it was full of flavor. The potato slices that came on the side were seasoned lightly and were very good. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and service that you get. The average entrée was $13. wandered around dc to find a place to catch up with a friend from out of town over some wine and food. we decided where we found parking would be the deciding factor of where we eat. (fyi: parking special of $5 after 4 pm at the garage next to taiphoon) we walked from the parking garage and glanced at a few menus before deciding on sette. the patio looked inviting and they sat us right away. food was pretty decent... not too bland, not over seasoned or sauced, but just right (i realize i sound like goldilocks). portion sizes were reasonable. i would definitely return for the food. i had the arugula and shaved fennel salad added with grilled chicken breast - light, fresh, great combination of textures and flavors. my friend had the gnocchi with mozzarella and basil also added with grilled chicken - the doughy pillows disappeared one by one before my eyes and left my friend very satisfied. we enjoyed our meal with a bottle of "barbi" which was a dry, crisp white wine that had a very citrusy finish. not a bad bottle to be enjoying out on the patio. for dessert, we went for the peach cobbler and tiramisu. both were necessary to end our meal. i'm not really a fan of sweets (i prefer a cheese plate), but these desserts were not overly sweet and had a good balance of flavors. the only part of the evening i did not enjoy was the service. there were a number of attitude issues from our server throughout the night, but i tried to ignore it, give him the benefit of the doubt, and enjoy my company, which i did... until the very end. i won't go into what happened. it was nothing serious, just extremely rude and baffling. i do not judge sette based on one server's attitude with us and would be excited to return and try one of their amazing looking pizzas or other pasta dishes some time soon. read more

First off, there are a zillion places to eat Italian in DC and I keep coming back here as my go to place. The service is, well....Italian. If you are in a giant rush to eat, don't go here as it can be slow and many of the servers and the manager are Italian...Not to say that they are rude, but they sometimes are a bit arrogant. In their defense, if I had to deal with idiot tourists all day, I might be a little annoyed myself. But, if you are looking for solid food that is reasonably priced, homemade pastas, solid pizzas, etc. you have come to the right place. I have had pretty much everything on the menu and, while some things are better than others, most everyone I bring has liked or loved it including my friend who is a devoted foodie from Rome. The cavatelli with sausage and broccoli rabe, the pumpkin ravioli, and the pizzas are standouts. They do a good job with fish and most of the specials are usually quite tasty. Not much problem getting a table during a weeknight usually. read more
