Tourist trap. No atmosphere and average food. Long wait after ordering for ironically overcooked food.

Given the prime location in Dupont Circle and spacious patio seating perfect for people-watching, the food was a flop. Although cooked in a brick-oven, the Margherita pizza looked so unappetizing that I just couldn't take a bite of it and asked to take it back. Don't get fooled by some of the Yelp pics, the quality of the pizza has definitely gone down! The flatbread looked pretty tasty, perhaps next time. The Bread Basket with housemade focaccia was stone cold! Another item I had to send back and finally received a warm basket 15 minutes later. The homemade Scialatelli Pasta similar to fettucini was cooked al dente tossed with eggplant and peppers and smothered in chunky smoked mozzarella and tomato sauce. Definitely get the homemade pasta over the pizza! The housemade Red Sangria was surprisingly good and refreshing. The sugary Sette reminded me of Peach Snapp and couldn't taste any fresh mango, passion fruit, or blood orange juices. Where was the limoncello? My hubby enjoyed the Blue-jito with a potent blueberry punch! The service was very slow and our waiter was stand-offish. I rarely send back food (the last time was over a year ago), but couldn't bring myself to eat the soggy pizza or stone cold bread while paying premium. After spending $100, the meal wasn't satisfying and leaves a lot be desired. If i'm in the area, I may come back for a do-over and try the flatbread or the gnocchi. read more

Food was very good. I had the bolognese with homemade pasta. The sauce and the pasta were delicious. The food was still hot when it was delivered. I also got the salad with beets and goat cheese, also delicious and well dressed. The only reason not five stars is the food was delivered to a hotel which should have led the person who packed the items to put in napkins, forks, etc. in addition the bag was not sealed in any way, meaning the carrier bag was not tied, stapled with a receipt or anything. I didn't like that, however I still ate it. Just an additionally courtesy of utensils and a secure bag would've gotten them a five star review. read more

Sunday brunch: Service--poor. Food--bad. We were seated quickly but it took a long time for our server to take our order and get our food. What was weird was that our food came out 15 minutes apart. I'm quite sure they forgot one of our orders. The Eggs Benedict, which came out first, which was over cooked and the egg was soft boiled rather than poached. No flowing egg yolk. The ham omelet came out second, a 15 minutes after the eggs benedict. The omelet was a rush job because we had to follow up twice and none of the ingredients were cooked thoroughly when it was finally served. Even the thin sheet of cheese inside the omelet was solid, meaning that the omelet didn't even stay on heat long enough to melt. We ordered take-away from here on a Sunday night. Because of covid you don't go into the restaurant at all to pick up. You walk through one door and there is a table set up cot contactless picking up. The food tasted good and we probably will come back. I ordered the fresh pasta with pesto. The pesto sauce was tasty, but the pasta was a bit too gummy. My husband ordered spaghetti and meatballs. It was a bit bland but we were satisfied. I split mine into 2 meals and he finished his in one sitting. I would try this place again and try different items. read more

Came here with two friends on a friday evening for dinner and were seated outside. The restaurant was allowing limited compacity inside and provided outdoor seating. It was fairly busy with proper space and distance between outdoor tables. However, there was only 1 waiter and and a few people who were bussing tables or help bringing out the food. It took approximately 20 minutes to place appetizers, then when we received the apps, the waiter never came back for another 20 mins to take our entree order. Overall, the food was delicious. I ordered the burrata- it had a marinated salad with arugula, tomatoes, and avocado with a big burrata sitting on top. It was so refreshing and creamy. I also order the Bresaola pizza, which had the Carpaccio Di Bresaola (dried salted beef) which was so good! Authentic italian pizza. The crust was thin and soft with a slight crisp. The meat was sliced thick with good texture. One friend ordered the calamari appetizer, wanting the fried calamari but the waiter gave her the grilled calamari salad instead. Both friends said their food tasted good. The wait service was a little slow, but I think there was only 1 waiter attending to at least 8 table outdoors. That can be busy. They are open for outdoor seating! Lots of tables and the open air is a nice touch especially during sunset. Had a reservation for 8:15pm. Got seated right by the door of the actual restaurant, lots of servers coming in and out. Waited an extra 30 mins before being acknowledged but looked at the menu via QR code because we asked for a menu as others had but was told to use to the code which was cool to keep handling down. We had to flag down a server to get service though to get silverware, drinks and put in our apps. Abderrazek ended up taking care of us. The food was okay. Nothing special. The calamari was bland, the tiramisu tasted watery and the fries were just fries with Parmesan cheese not herbs or anything special. Prices were pretty high for the serving sizes. The food here was good and felt very light. The only odd thing that I had to note about my experience here was that the hostess (also our waitress) was a bit cold with my table. She was quick to leave when we ordered and did not come around often to take our order or refill the water. I thought that it was because she was probably busy, but the restaurant was mostly empty (there were only two other tables seated at the time we were there, totaling to be six other people eating in the restaurant). Also, I didn't realize that they have validated parking for the restaurant or else I would've taken advantage of that! NOPE. Late lunch on a weekday for just me seemed to be overwhelming for them and underwhelming for me. SERVICE: Erik F. Bad from start to finish. I ordered a glass of the Sangiovese and asked for a recommendation for a tomato based pasta and he suggested the Scialatelli which is a vegetarian pasta and when I said I like a meaty pasta he then recommended the Penne alla Russa which is salmon. Sigh. Then I decided to get the Cavatelli, I really should've taken this as a sign to go to another restaurant. He then asked me what glass of wine I wanted. Sigh. Is it that difficult to remember 2 items? There were only 8 tables outside almost all of which were 2 tops and 2 servers. Every single table around me had a bread basket even tables that came in after me! Where was mine? So I had to ask for bread and the bread came out at the same time as the food which took 5 minutes. That was really frustrating considering how hungry I was; I was very tempted to just walk back to the kitchen and get my own bread. FOOD: Cavatelli All'indiavolata (Homemade Pasta) $18.99 egg free homemade cavatelli, Italian sausage, fresh tomato sauce, parmesan, broccoli rabe *This should not be served to guests. I wanted another glass of wine and to ask if they could bring out different pasta by itself so I could eat the rest of the dish. He didn't come back. I gave up. Walked in to get my check and left most of the gummy pasta in the bowl. I spoke with the hostess/manager? telling her that Erik was terrible and why, she was slightly apologetic but not really. Even more irritated it was a $29 meal for this nonsense. Also the Sangiovese was $10 on my menu and I was charged $11. Not about the money but it's annoying I was charged incorrectly. I also noticed that there have been a lot of 1 and 2 star reviews in the recent months which is very telling that this place is just going downhill. You decide to order the water again, along with some bread for the table, and the server declares that it'll cost you a whopping $4.99 (because, you know, our tattoos must make it appear that might be too steep a cost for us). We also order a Spicy Passionfruit Margarita (which, let's be honest, tastes like it was concocted by a desperate mixologist using ingredients salvaged from a post-apocalyptic bar). After what seems like an eternity, the server returns with water and bread. They take our order for the main course, casually plopping the bread on the table without any oil, balsamic, or even a hint of effort to make it more enjoyable. Undeterred, you persist and request balsamic once more. This time, it takes a solid ten-minute ordeal, as if they were squeezing the vinegar from grapes right there in the kitchen. Just as you're cracking open one of these bread balls, horror strikes--a hair! You try to convince yourself it might be your own, given your dark hair color, but deep down, you know it's baked into the bread. How many hairs did you unknowingly munch on? Cue the gag reflex and tears. Suddenly, the food arrives at an alarming speed. But where, oh where, is your beloved Margarita? You search high and low, but it's nowhere to be found. Turns out, Chef Mic** didn't bother with temperature control, as your dish seems to have taken a detour through the gates of hell (although, miraculously, the shrimp managed to defrost--those "bad boys" must have gone through a questionable microwave ritual that lasted a mere 25 seconds, without anyone bothering to look or taste the shrimp beforehand). Once my Linguini was at a temp I could put in my mouth without disintegrating my tongue, I was able to taste the flavor. Now, the taste can only be likened to that of a Vintage Chef Boyardee. Perhaps from someones private collection. Noodles were completely obliterated... 1 second away from mush. The sauce was closer to orange than red... and again tasted like it plopped out of a can, salt? pepper? herbs? HA no way. We repeatedly asked the waiters where the food was and was told that it was coming out in a few seconds even though it never did. Also the food came out at different times so our food got cold while waiting for everyone to get their dishes. Worst of all, the restaurant was basically empty yet we had missed orders and barely anyone checked in on us. Our waiter barely checked in on us. We tried to get nutella bites for free when we checked in on yelp but it took forever and was not worth it. This place could be good but they need to fix their Food was overpriced for the portions, but the food tasted alright. However, the chicken milano was just a giant fried piece of chicken with a bunch of arugula on top and tartar sauce for $20?? Definitely not worth it. This was one of my favorite Italian restaurants in DC. It was mid way between work and my apartment in DC, so we would frequent this place on Monday's for happy hour, which offered drink specials and half price appetizers. It's casual Italian, so not overly complex and priced moderately. The sauce for most of the prepared dishes are made with San Marzano tomatoes, so really good quality. I had the chicken parmigiana, which comes with broccolini and roasted potatoes instead of the usual pasta. I've had this dish from here before - it's consistently good. The service is transactional, so not very warm and friendly, but you know what you are getting every single time. My coworker was impressed with her meal and said that she would return here the next time that she is in DC, so I think she enjoyed it! read more

Sette has a really nice happy hour menu. They have managed to create a large heated tent so they are somewhat able to function as a normal restaurant, despite Mayor Bowser's lockdown. Since it is a tent and outdoors occasionally people bring their kids, who, suffering from cabin fever, are way too rowdy for a restaurant (maybe because they think they are just outdoors in a tent). The only bad thing about this set up is that it is so nice you may want to stay awhile and have several glasses of the $5 house red and the small plates. Generally the crowd is diverse ranging from young business professionals to large families with young children, all equally seeming to enjoy themselves. With that being said, the noise level is above average and a boisterous. The ambiance is quite lively but not somewhere I would suggest for an intimate dinner date. While the pesto entree was immaculate, it was definitely heavy. I would also suggest adding salmon, chicken, or something similar to the dish. The downsides to my experience lie with the wine menu and starters/charcuterie options. I would suggest adding more wines available by the glass as opposed to the bottle. Additionally, most people enjoy a charcuterie board with a combination of various cheeses and meats. The fact that there are only exclusively meat or exclusively cheese boards is not only inconvenient, but also disappointing. read more

Came here with 5 other friends. They were really nice about us waiting for our friend, she accidentally went to their restaurant downtown. We got drinks and I loved the Blue-jito, it was really tasty and strong. The restaurant was a bit cold but we were sat close to the door. I forgot to take a picture of the bread but it was very good! Super soft and the olive oil was yummy too, but not top quality. We all got pasta dishes. The homemade pasta gave nostalgic vibes, reminded me of my sister making it at home. The sauce of the fettuccine was ok, I was hoping for a bit thicker of a sauce but it was still smooth and creamy, had a bit too much butter compared to cheese in the sauce which is why I think it was thinner than I expected. Everyone else liked their dishes. I tried my friends penne and carbonara, they were both delicious! I would say we all had a good time while we were there, our waiter was cool and we were there for a long time. I usually only write reviews when a place in fantastic and I want people to know it, or if it's bad. I'm sorry to say that my experience with this restaurant was bad. Two times. When I got there yesterday with my legal service dog The hostess tried to put me on the patio. I said I didn't want to sit on the patio because of the mosquitoes, and that I got three bites the night before on a patio of a restaurant and she said that I had to go sit out there. I said that I would sit outside, but my dog was a legal service dog so she did not have to sit outside. I showed her a card that said exactly that. She went to get the manager. I showed the manager my documentation and she told me I could sit wherever I wanted to but I definitely did not want to sit inside after all that. So I opted to sit on the patio. We were all being nice, but it was awkward. Right away two bees came and would not leave me alone so I was going to just leave, but I had already ordered and the manager was nice so I moved inside and stayed, but felt uncomfortable. Crab cake sandwich was so-so but white chocolate mousse and pistachio ice cream was really yummy. I took a photo of it. The next day I Wanted more of that dessert. I didn't want to eat in the restaurant so I ordered it to go. The lady on the phone said it was no longer a menu item. I said, "what? I just had it yesterday". She said, "yeah, and it just came off the menu today". I said "well what else do you have"? She said we have pistachio ice cream. I asked "what else?" Silence. "Is there a menu online that I can look at"? She said "no that menu will be updated shortly". I said, "Well can you tell me what you have then"? I was on hold for a few minutes then she came back on the phone and said, "We have the white chocolate mousse and pistachio ice cream". I said, "good. I want two of those to go". She said, "well, those don't really do very well as to go items". I asked "what do you mean"? She said, "we don't really have containers for that and it melts". I said, "I'm sure the kitchen knows how to package this to go. I want it. I'll be there in 10 minutes". So I got there and the pistachio ice cream was in a tiny container like what you would get catchup in at McDonald's. I said "can I have more ice cream please? I got a dirty look from the lady and an eye roll and she said this is how we do it to go". I said, "it wasn't like this yesterday. This is like one spoonful of ice cream". Literally, it was. I'm not joining about the dirty look and eye roll. She went to get more. Meanwhile I left her a 5$ tip On a $20 ticket because I didn't want them to think I was just being cheap, I just wanted more than one bite of ice cream. She came back with one more small container of ice cream. I had two desserts and 3 very small containers of ice cream. I said can I please have one more? She said "I've already given you more than we're supposed to. This is how we do it to go. It doesn't look like it but it's the same amount of ice cream you got with the desert when you eat it here". I said "there's no way that's the same amount". She asked if I wanted the manager and I said yes. She seemed surprised and annoyed. I got one more. Wow. Twice they succeeded in making me feel so unwelcome and uncomfortable. I just really wanted to get out of there both times. They cared SO little about customer service the whole way through both encounters that I don't see how they couldn't possibly care about the bad reviews they get. A clear cut case of style over substance. I'll start off with the superlatives: Great location: short walk off Dupont Circle Metro with the Phillips Collection down the block and a host of other shops and eateries to pop over to if you are here for drinks or happy hour appetizers. Complimentary parking: attached garage gives 2hours if ticket stamped by restaurant staff Ambiance and service- friendly waitstaff, lovely outdoor patio for people watching, lots of natural light within the interior. Not sure if a single word exists for the opposite of superlative, so let's just say the "perjoratives" or "sublatives"? Pastas are over-sauced and uni-dimensional: a few looks at the Yelp photos will demonstrate various pastas drowning in their own sauce, made worse by the fact that the sauces themselves are mediocre at best. A good sauce is thick enough to stick to the pasta but thin enough so that various elements of freshness from herbs, tomato, onion, garlic can all make their presence known. There is a dreaded Chef Boyardee quality to the tomato-based sauces where I don't think there would be a difference in taste or mouthfeel if the sauce were 1hour, 1day, or even 1week old. I also think that it speaks to the lack of finesse that the parmesan cheese is pregrated in a small bowl that could have been recycled for the umpteenth time rather than freshly grated tableside. Small portion size along with inflated prices rub crushed red pepper on the wound. Not a good sign when one dining companion orders a half size portion of one pasta and you can barely tell the full size portion you order to split with another one is ostensibly larger. Not a good idea to plate your half-portion fettucine bolognese in a bowl so that it looks like a burrito bowl from Chipotle. No complimentary bread (even Olive Garden and Macaroni Grill have the decency for that) and all sorts of upcharges to tack on for meat sauce and various proteins. Perhaps their other offerings are more reasonable in price to quality/portion size, but I think the American palate is familiar enough with Italian fare to recognize mediocrity, unless we are so comfortable with the classic fare that we are complacent to tolerate it. read more

Tonight was my first time coming to this restaurant after walking by it numerous times (thanks to a recommendation from a friend). I ordered the grilled calamari for appetizer, the fish of the day (halibut) for my entree and a tiramisu for dessert. Honestly, I felt it was over priced for the portions but the service from our server (Andrea) was superb. In particular, I appreciated her extensive knowledge of the menu, checking in on us numerous times throughout the meal and my water never went below half a glass. read more

Check -Decently priced (but mediocre) entrees that leave you slightly hangry after you've cleaned your plate? Double check. Overall, Sette is a solid choice for a weekend brunch with girlfriends, but don't expect to be wow-ed by the food. If you do order their specialty Brunch Tart, be prepared to eat the entire thing in 3 bites...then wonder if it's socially acceptable to order a second entree. Alternatively, you could opt for something a bit more substantial like their flatbreads or pancakes, and then use the carbs to soak up all of those apple cider mimosas you sip down [definitely choose the apple cider mimosas if you're doing bottomless; great twist on the classic cocktail]. All in all, 3 1/2 stars. Good place to eat, drink [unlimited mimosas], and catch up with good company. read more

Seated when our whole party arrived. Service was busy but polite. Bread basket was pretty much rolled out pizza flatbread served sliced and warm, EVOO and black pepper on the tables. I preferred the Mango's freshness over the potent Velvet, but props on the latter not being terribly sweet. Small sauce plates of red pepper and parmesan powder. Soft gnocchi and carbonara were both lightly sauced and appropriately textured, I'd happily order both again. Very nice of them to split the shared pasta for us. Three and a half stars. Tellies over the bar to catch a game. Seems like an okay date night spot if you overlook the muted acoustics and flock of St Nick statues around the holidays. Large parties are accommodated by pushing together tables. With Vento gone from Dupont, this is a decent spot for health-appropriate portions of rustic pasta executed with finesse at DC prices. read more

Nothing beats enjoying a meal outdoors on a nice day, and Sette Osteria has a sizable patio! It was a bit windy when I went, and they had comfortable blankets at the ready - call me impressed by that thoughtful touch! Our group ordered the calamari and fried zucchini appetizer, which I found to be fine but didn't knock my socks off in terms of flavor. I had the carbonara and added shrimp, which was plenty of food, but I wasn't craving more after each bite. I appreciate that the dish wasn't overly salty, but I found it to be a tad underseasoned and oily. I loved the patio seating and the service was spot on. If I went back on another business lunch, I'd probably just try something else off the menu. read more

Finally, I've been able to visit for happy hour. I've been a few times and I love it. I think Sette's happy hour is completely underrated. The food and drinks are great, as are the prices. And Jeff, the bartender, is fabulous. I've had both the rose and sangria. While I liked both, I definitely prefer the sangria. It's quite strong. For food, I've had the calamari, gnocchi, and arancini. The gnocchi is possibly the best I've had. They've always been perfectly cooked and are light and tasty. Calamari was tender and not overcooked. Arancini was good and bigger than expected. What also makes me happy is that Sette is close to my office. Perfect! read more

My coworker and I are in D.C. for a work event. We decided to come here for dinner. We're so glad we did! Chris, the manager, was so nice! Our bartender John was attentive, knowledgeable, and really nice! I'm from Boston so I'm really picky about my food and service. However, I would come back here and recommend it to everyone. Chris provided great food and drink suggestions and the food we got (calamari, bucatini alla russa, broccolini, mista salad, tiramisu and chocolate gelato) were all great! First time at this restaurant. We were early diners 5 PM with an open table reservation for outside dining. Area totally empty with over 25 tables set up. There were only 2 tables designated for a couple. (Slightly discriminatory) These tables were incredibly small. No Italian or any customer who sits down to enjoy a meal has only the space to have one plate in front of them. Bread basket was Pita Bread. No ITALIAN restaurant should ever serve Pita bread which was dry and burnt. The salad and meal were tasty but some attention should be given to the comfort of the diner. The staff were pleasant but should have made more of an effort to address the concerns of the customers which were noted to them. I tip generously, perhaps, to give a message!! read more

Food was mediocre. My order was delayed...the entree came out first (eggplant parmesean) ...I asked the manager what happened to my mussells and she immediately apologized and had the entree taken back..the mussells arrived, however they were luke warm...my guess is they ad been sitting at the serving line. The entree returned to the table immediately after the mussells. When the manager asked how my meal was I was honest and said I was disappointed that the reviews did not live up to my experience. The eggplant was bland. The manager again apologized and applied a credit to my bill. Came here for a happy hour with friends!!! Had a wonderful time - the happy hour menu is 10/10. This deal is unbeatable in dc!! I thought the pizzas were personal pizzas but in fact could split between two people! read more
