So the food is good here. BUT you can only get a reservation at 5 pm, otherwise it's walk in only. AND you get only an hour to have your meal. With people hovering at the door, the staff not friendly bc they're so harried, and the space is tiny. Is the food worth this experience? NO. read more

I have been following the Sfizio pop up for a long time and it's so great to see all of their hard work pay off into a beautiful restaurant! Their menu is simple, with great quality food at an amazing price, you can't beat it! I ordered my usual favorite, the classic spaghetti with meatballs and my boyfriend tried a new dish- the pesto pasta. We honestly couldn't decide which one we enjoyed more! Both dishes were made to perfection and were soooo tasty! Nothing like clean, fresh and good quality ingredients. The service was fast and everyone was very attentive and kind. Food was exceptional!! Amazing prices for the quality! A limited menu turned out to be a real bonus as our table of four tried nearly everything. Exclusively Italian wine list paired well with the food. Wonderful culinary experience! They've come up with a creative way to deal with the staff challenges all restaurants are facing, that actually enhanced the experience! I really like this place. The prices align more with what you'd pay in Italy. Three pasta choices, so I went with the $10 spaghetti with the $6 add-on for 3 meatballs, which is a good deal. The pasta was perfectly cooked al dente, the sauce was a little spicy which I like. The only reason 4 stars instead of 5 is that the polpetti are not authentic at all. Polpetti in Italy are smaller, moist & packed with flavor. These were typical Italian-American ginormous meatballs. Because they're too large, they were pretty dry & there wasn't enough sauce to moisten them up. I agree with the reviewer whose husband said the music is too loud. It would be so much cooler if it were Italian, or maybe classical guitar? Endless thumping of electronic drums really spoils the mood. And yeah, the hipster waiters are slightly annoying. I'm not sure having your maitre D serve as the bartender as well works. He looked way frazzled. I also wish they would offer a smaller antipasti or small side salad in the $6 range. Then it truly would be authentic. I definitely will try the lumache pasta with fresh peas next time. It's an unusual pasta you don't often see in the US, & I wish it were $10, too! read more

We had dinner at this restaurant recently, and it was by far the worst meal we've had anywhere. We ordered several pasta dishes and both of the veggie dishes. Overpriced salty and burnt. The broccoli was bitter and burnt and it was so salty that you couldn't taste anything but the salt, terrible. Not to mention the portion size which was ridiculously small. At most three miniature sprigs of broccoli. And the carrots were awful, the portion size was miniature at most 4 smal carrots and they were swimming in disgusting amount of spicy red oil, also drenched in salt, uncooked with a bitter burnt flavor. The pasta was gummy, too salty, too much cheese, and way too rich. Everything was salty, burnt and just terribly disgusting. We Would never go back and we would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

I'd never had an experience at a restaurant like the one tonight at Sfizio - either everyone working there was stoned, or they don't understand what making customers happy is all about. I don't think I've ever walked out of a restaurant, but the service was so bad we had no choice. Here's the story, and I know this is a first world rant, but it was a unique experience. - My wife and I were excited to try Sfizio, the replacement for Noodle Theory. We walked down last night and it was full at 5:15, so we waited for a weirdly long time to put our name on the list... But the line wasn't moving and after about fifteen minutes we bailed. - This evening we tried again and decided to go early for Aperitivos and snacks, and arrived at 4:15, hoping to roll into an early dinner. We walked in, very few people there, staff milling around. We asked to have a drink and roll into dinner, and the super hip guy said "OK, I'll be with you in a few minutes" - no one else there really - he walked a few feet away and messed with his phone, while we stood at the register. After a few minutes another guy came to us to ask if he could help, and again we said we wanted to have a drink before an early dinner. He said "Sounds great, I love that," but didn't seat us or say anything else and walked away. Finally a few minutes later a third guy sat us and explained how things work, namely they take orders from all the 5:00 reservations first, then others. OK, fair enough. We ordered our drinks and after about 10-15 minutes (not sure what they were doing, the place was mostly empty at that point) they arrived, and they were really good! So good, we decided to order another round at around 4:45 since we knew we were going to have to wait to order. But no one ever came back to our table, so I took our empty glasses inside and told the hip "bartender" that we'd like another round. He said "No more drinks until you order your meals, after the 5:00 reservation holders..." What? I've been in my share of restaurants and bars and I've never had a server say "No, can't do it" and it's not like they were at all busy! Really, so we just sit there at our table for a half hour until they deign to serve us? Yes. I asked if we could order the advertised "snacks" and he said he'd bring some. Turns out the snack was the dregs of a Lay's potato chip bag, literally. So we sat there for awhile, until about 5:20. No one came by to take our order, drinks or otherwise, so we aborted, left $20 for two drinks, and an hour after sitting down, we left and went and had a great dinner at Wood Tavern. read more

Nothing to write home about. The food was so sub par. We waited in a long line then decided to just take the food to go. Not only did they forget an entire portion of our order nothing was exceptional. I ordered the clam pasta and got 5 clams total. The noodles were completely over cooked and to be honest everything was very bland. Super disappointed because I was looking forward to trying this place and see what the hype was about. read more

The most delicious and delightful pasta I've had in the bay! It's rare I leave a pasta meal feeling so nourished but the wide ranging veggie and fruit selection in their dishes was exceptional. I want to like this place. I would give it 4 stars for the price, quality of ingredients, and drinks but Sfizio loses a few points for their customer service. The group I came in with was very excited to try this new spot out! We've collectively been here twice and felt completely unwelcome. When asking how aperitivo hour works and what food we can order as advertised there are "snacks" we were told "there's no food, and in Italy they don't serve food during aperitivo hour"... truly a weird experience from a customer service perspective.
