Ate here with two friends and we were served immediately. Staff member gave us their full and undivided attention. Made sure we each had a bowl of soup, vegetables and noodles on the table. Everything was hot and fresh and served fast. Great for groups. Loooved this shabu spot in Convoy! We had no trouble getting a resy over the phone for a party of 4 on a Saturday night. It's a small, quaint spot with majority seating at the bar and two tables that seat 4 people each. We all ordered a la carte and I felt that the portions for the protein and veggies were enough to make us full. Broths were delicious! My faves were the sukiyaki and spicy miso. I think only two people were working on the floor, but they still managed to check on our table regularly :). Only con is parking is sooo tough in this area esp on a weekend but that's nothing new.

Been going to Shabu Shabu house for years now but finally got time to write a review. Located in one of the busiest lots in Convoy, parking is always a pain in the butt but luckily there is plenty of street parking nearby. Just have to walk a couple of blocks if needed or there is a pay for parking lot half a block away as well. The restaurant has been consistently good over the last ten years that I have been coming here. The broth, the meat, veggies etc have not changed a bit. They have two tables close to the entrance for a party of four, otherwise everyone sits around a U shaped table with multiple stations to cook at. My go to is always the Rib Eye and I find the medium size to be enough to fill me. You get a plate of assorted veggies and tofu and two dipping sauces. My broth selection to cook the meat in is always spicy miso, though they also have Sukiyaki or plain water with some seaweed that you can flavor to your liking using the garlic, radish and green onion bottles they provide. The spicy miso is the way to go though. Since I like it spicy, I also ask for the ghost pepper which is added to the ponzu dip and gives a nice spicy kick to the meat when you dip it in the ponzu after cooking. Overall the service is fast and always good quality meats and veggies. My go to for shabu shabu in San Diego.

This place is so amazing for fresh food and easy access to service. The place is always playing music that is fun and at the perfect volume for conversation.

Nice shabu place with a lot of variety. The meat and seafood are fresh and taste great with the soups. Service is excellent and attentive. Recommend stopping by if you are in the area!

Fun individual Japanese hot pot! Variety of broths to choose from, my favorites are the sukiyaki and miso (without spicy). They have AYCE and a la carte options. Veggie plate and rice or noodles come with your order. The veggies have been consistently fresh and tasty, and pork is my go to. I just love having lots of foods to pick at and the flavors are light. You can order beer or other drinks from here as well. Overall just a casual feel here and I love that. Also, Kirby is a Superman serving everyone in the restaurant almost always by himself!

An awesome spot with great food and service. Didn't try the AYCE since the large fills me up. Would I come back? Yes.

They give you a bunch of veggies and you pick your own broth

Is the owner Japanese? Im looking for authentic Japanese Shabu.

    Yes

    Safe for a peanut allergy?

    Yes

Are they open for take out? I called yesterday but no one picked up.

I think so but if you called when they are closed (obviously you won't get an answer). Though this place is basically a really busy hole in the wall and I personally recommend just coming in to eat.

A popular spot for craft beer and casual gatherings! I've been to Common Theory several times now…read moreand have always enjoyed my time there. It can get busy so if you have a large party, I'd recommend making a reservation! - PARKING - This lot can get pretty full depending on the time of day, but at least there are adjacent streets where you can also find additional parking. - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - You seat yourself and they'll bring out a few physical menus, although they also have QR codes for the taplist if you don't want to go up to the bar. After ordering, our drinks came almost immediately, and we only had to wait 10 minutes for our food. - FOOD - Fish Sandwich ($6.00 during HH): They've got great happy hour deals, including this fish sandwich! We had plans to eat dinner later so we just wanted something to snack on. The fish was crispy and juicy, and the slaw was pretty good too! - OVERALL - I only remember the last time I had food here (probably 2 years ago) it wasn't too impressive, but after trying this new item, I'm definitely open to coming back for more of the menu!

I did not have anything to eat this time but will try the food next time. KPBS was having their One Book One San Diego event here and I was interested so stopped in today check it out. I am a bookworm and love reading so this event was perfect! This event also unveiled the top 10 books for each category including adults, teens and children. I learned that over 750+ book entries were received! Wow! At my table, I ended up meeting a librarian, a teacher and a publisher. The librarian was part of the selection committee and she suggested so many good books! She mentioned a book about octopus conversation in the atolls and my ears perked up. The book is Mountain in the Sea by Ray Nayler and its on my shortlist to read soon! Waiting for it on Libby! OK. back to the venue. We had the side part of the bar and everything was outside so that was nice. Service was great and Zach did a great job getting everyone's orders. I started off with a special edition One Book, One Brew beer, brewed in the Kolsch style and limited edition beer by Chula Vista Brewery. Nice, crisp and summery beer! I also had a margarita too, that was so-so for me so next time will stick with beers. Parking around here is a pain but I did find a spot after circling a few times. This bar/restaurant is in a hip part of North Park and I can see myself coming here to meet up friends or other events. I'll be back!!

They have classic arcade games here like Frogger Pong, Super Mario and pinball. There are a few newer games like a version of beer pong, Halo, Mario Kart and 4-person Pacman. We played every game within an hour and felt a bit bored after that. I'd love to see a Dance Dance Revolution game here! The plethora of beers, hard seltzers and ciders on tap looked like an expansive collection. There was something here for everyone. They even had a chocolate espresso martini on tap. I didn't drink but those in my party enjoyed every sip and got a good buzz goin. I love that you can pay for your drink by the ounce and you don't really have to commit to a whole drink if you don't want to. Perfect to taste test everything if that's what you desire. It was a little smaller than I expected, but it's still easy to spend an hour or two here with friends. They also serve food, which I'll have to come back and try another time. Instead of ordering drinks at the bar, you start a tab by leaving your credit card with the cashier. They give you a tap card that lets you pour your own drinks. You can sample just a little or fill up a whole glass. It's completely up to you. They have everything from beer and wine to a few craft cocktails on tap. If you want to try something different, you can swap out your glass and keep exploring. The same tap card also activates all of the arcade games, which I thought was a really cool touch. It makes everything feel connected instead of having to carry around a bunch of tokens or cash. When I visited, they were hosting trivia night. It definitely brought in a crowd. Most of the tables were full, so walking around got a little tight because the space isn't very big. Even so, the atmosphere was lively. It felt like everyone was having a good time. I ended up trying the Cranberry Mule, which I really enjoyed. It was nice being able to pour just the amount I wanted instead of committing to a full drink. Overall, I had a really fun time here. It's a unique spot that gives you something a little different from your typical bar. Once you're ready to leave, you just close out your tab and head home. I'd definitely come back with a group of friends.
