Dogs are not welcome on the patio, they have a crumby spot with a picnic table for people with pets. Nik, can we talk about the cole slaw? It's hot out. Much of your food is served warm. I was so looking forward to a cool bite of fresh cole slaw that came with my shrimp. What I got instead was cabbage and miracle whip. There was no flavor, no sweet, no heat, no salty, nothing. Otherwise, the experience and our meal was fine, and of course, the view was spectacular. Best food on Lake Travis! It is easy to pull your boat right up. It is super kid friendly and the staff are wonderful.

We have been anxiously awaiting Niks to open and were so pleased with the service and food. The margaritas and Mexican Martinis were great. The appetizer with queso, guac and salsa was the perfect start to our meal. Our main entree was the jalapeño lime chicken parmigiana. Yum!!! So disappointing. Styrofoam cups of water that taste like a swimming pool. Everything was overpriced. I really wanted the peel and eat shrimp but couldn't imagine paying $13 for 8 shrimp. Beer was lukewarm. Service was spotty. $20 for two beers and some queso. Maybe if I was drunk getting off the lake it would have been better. read more

Tonight we gave Niks on the Lake a try, knowing it was opening night for the public and that restaurants often are still working out the kinks for the first several weeks. We always enjoy Niks on 620, and were so happy with our first experience at the lakefront location. Who doesn't love a great view, excellent service, and yummy food? My burger was delicious, and the kids snarfed down their pasta dishes to the last drop. The wine list was not extensive, but offered several good options. A variety of cocktails also were on the menu. The owner was gracious and welcoming, and took our feedback seriously. We can't wait to go back! read more

A hidden treasure! You navigate ancient rocky steps down to the restaurant. It's right on the water and the view is worth the walk. Limited happy hour menu, but the food is good and it's an excellent value......the burger and the grilled chicken breast especially. Drink specials weren't great deals, but not bad either. Service was a little slow, but c'mon... it's Happy Hour! We enjoyed a leisurely time taking in the setting. We had kids with us and they loved looking over the side and watching the fish and the ducks. The selections on the regular menu were tempting...... we're going to return to try them when we want a heartier meal. read more

Great view but the service and food left a lot to be desired. We had a noon reservation and didn't get anyone to come by until we asked at 12:30. The food didn't come out until 1:25 until we again asked for a mgr. had ordered eggs Benedict but they were cold. They took them and just reheated them inside of cooking a new plate. Went to Shack 512 this morn for Mother's Day Brunch. Lets go w/ the good stuff first. Great location, nice people that want to do well. Waiter was not too bad. However, If you are going to serve a breakfast (eggs,bacon,english muffin) then you MUST serve it hot. We had to send ours back as it was very cold. Nothing worst than cold eggs. They were kind to cook it again but I did not have it in me to complain that it was cold again. I guess they don't have heat lamp? or just let it sit in the window twice. Also, English Muffins should always have butter and a choice of jam. They were surprised when I asked for butter and jam. The manager said he had not thought of that. What? Where have you ever gone to a restaurant and not had jelly/jam w/ an English muffin? Go for the view but bring your own jam. read more

Had a great evening at Shack512. Food was good and specialty cocktails were fun and different. After we finished our dinner, our server asked if we would like a dessert. We did, and ordered a key lime pie......20 min later still no dessert. Our server asked twice if it had been brought out......we got frustrated and just asked for the check. Our server apologized and blamed the kitchen.......not real smooth on the customer experience but it saved us a few extra calories and about $8-10 more bucks! We'll be back but sure left a bit of a sour taste after a great evening. read more

We have visited this location frequently over the past year (pre and post flood). I can't say enough for their food and customer service. Of course, the view is amazing. We recently visited for Mother's Day. Their buffet was spot on- food was fresh, tasty, and replenished. They also controlled the flow of people, which made it pleasant. I rarely finish a meal and feel compelled to write a review on the spot. Stopped in not expecting much after some fishing. Got shrimp "bobbers" and St Louis ribs. Amazing restaurant, I live on lake Travis and every time we stop to eat it's always at shack. Amazing food. Owner is awesome and kind and welcoming! The staff is terrific all super kind. It's a great vibe and amazing food. I get the pimento burger it's my all time favorite there. But the entire menu is great. Highly recommend. And also the view is amazing. It's even better when you are there late to watch the sun set. If your sitting at the bar ask for mike. Sweetest man alive. read more

View is excellent, it's a nice place and fun to drive there on the winding road. We went for dinner on Sat 4/27, arrived about 5:30p. Moderately busy. Had a drink while waiting for our burgers. They simply couldn't make them. Cook must have gone missing or they didn't have burgers. Or something. My wife commented later that it didn't seem like anyone was eating while we were there. We gave up and left after about an hour and a half. First time I haven't been able to get food at a restaurant! Waiter was a good guy, but he knew it wasn't going to happen so just brought us our check so we could leave. Super disappointed. The manager came down and met us as we were tying it up to tell us his grill was down and it would be an hour or so to get most of his food going. I really wish I could comment on the food, but they ran out of food, after waiting 45 minutes for a table! It was this last Sunday on Mother's Day. I couldn't figure out why we were waiting for a table when there were at least 10 open tables. We tried to order drinks and appetizers from the bar, but nobody would look at us or attempt to help us. Everyone looked like they had worked all night long...limping around with horrible expressions on there face. I knew this was not going to be a good experience. I checked with the hostess and inquired about all of the empty tables, and she said they were all reserved for reservations. When I called BS on that, she admitted that the Manager had told her to not seat anyone else because they didn't have the staff to serve us. Oh brother...not sure why I didn't leave then...maybe because it's a 20 minute drive to another restaurant? Anyway, finally they seated us, and then the waiter showed us a menu with EVERYTHING but chicken marked off as sold out.....no buns for burgers or sandwiches (which my Dad wanted to order), no ribs (which my Mom wanted to order), no shrimp (which my husband wanted to order. At that point I called Mercy, and we walked out. Worst service, worst management of a restaurant I have ever witnessed. If Café Blue and Niks couldn't survive with good food and service, this place isn't going to last long either. read more

We went here for the first time and it was so great! It had a great view and atmosphere, and we loved how cute it was because it's not like the typical restaurant on the lake. On top of that the food was so good, and we did have to wait a bit but they gave us free dessert! My boyfriend and I randomly decided to come try this place last night. View was great, food was great, but customer service was some of the worst that I've experienced. We showed up at 7pm on a Saturday. We put our name down and was told, with attitude, "that's going to be like a 40 minute wait". We were perfectly fine with waiting.. 40 min is expected on a Saturday at a place like this. After waiting 45 min we get up to ask about how much longer until we are seated. When we were finally acknowledged, she looked for our name on the list and said it would be another 30 min!! (She continued to tell the new people arriving it's a 30 to 40 min wait). She then told us to hold on and she would check the tables and see if she could squeeze two people in somewhere. She came back and said she would sit us at the bar and we can order food there. Perfect! We sit down and were completely ignored. Two bar tenders were making drinks right in front of us and never once acknowledged us sitting there. After about 10 minutes we ask one of them if they are the ones that will take our order. He replied "I'm really backed up right now so it will be a while before I can help you." Okayyy.. So a couple of minutes later the other guy comes up and takes our drinks and food order. 45 minutes later we received our food. The food (2 hamburgers) tasted amazing!! We scarfed it down in 10 minutes. We asked for the check, which then also took a while to get to us. We put our cc on it immediately and set it out for the guy to grab. He walked by it multiple times and never looked at us. We were sitting next to the computer so we finally asked a random waiter if he would please run the card. He was gracious and took care of it for us. Long story short, the food was great, the service was awful. Short story, was pretty good when it opened and used to go there and rate it highly, but gets worse every visit and I think I've had enough. Embarrassed now to take guests there and I don't enjoy the food now much either. Details: Have been going here occasionally before and since becoming Shack512. Used to give it 4 stars, but last couple visits both the salmon and ribs were overcooked. Yesterday June 15, was hot out and they sat us at a table not near any of the cooling mist or fans. Wanted to move where there was a good breeze from a mist fan and several large empty tables but they said rather rudely that we can't sit there as those are for large groups (I think they seat 8 and we were only 4) so we found a small table for 4 where we were more shaded and had at least a little breeze. Of course as a Thursday evening, the place was not busy, and all those tables were empty the whole time we were there. I ordered the pulled pork nacho appetizer, which I used to like very much, but now had very little pulled pork, and lots of onions. We ate only part of it while the abundance of flies we were constantly batting away enjoyed it more. I ordered the ribs which for the second time were dry and chewy, way overcooked. I asked the server when I ordered if the grilled zucchini and squash side had any onions or bell peppers, she said no, that it was just the zucchini and squash, but when I got it, about a third of it was bell pepper. She also was asked by another in our party if they could have shrimp in their salad, to which she responded 'of course' then came back later and said they couldn't (don't they teach the servers about their menu?). Then my wife came back from using the restroom (only one for men/women) and said the restroom was dirty, had pee all over the seat and floor. I love it being on the lake, and close to where I live, but I doubt I'll go there again, they are getting consistently worse. read more

Made a reservation for a noon brunch for two, but was greeted by a guy who said other servers didn't show up and they were waiting to seat people. So we waited at the bar 20 mins to be asked by a bartender what we wanted and ren waited another 10 to be given a watered down bloody mary. Waited a total of 45 mins to watch entire parties of 6-8 be seated before us. Then they lied and said they called us to be seated. Don't bother. There's better brunch at IHOP. read more
