Came here after work to meet up with some friends and hot as it was, we sat outside cause they got a great play area for the kids. There's not a ton of other restaurants in the area, but appreciate the family friendly place for sure! As far as food goes, pretty standard American fare, nothing particularly special, but not terrible either. Got a fish and chips and the batter on the fish is crisp and light, not too greasy either. The french fries could use more crisp, but were fine and salted well. Tartar sauce is excellent. Mushroom chicken is also not bad - could have been a bit saucier I think, but some light summer veg makes for a healthier selection. Corn dog basket for the kids was standard kid fare. You come here to hang with family. There's also a large screen inside for sports games if you rather be inside. All in all, serves its purpose fine. read more

I don't often factor service into my reviews, I usually focus on food quality, taste, and value, but this visit deserves a mention. Let's start with the positive. The gentleman in the green shirt and glasses, who I assume was the manager, was outstanding. We arrived as a party of nine, and he immediately went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. He even suggested combining two tables so our group could sit together. When a server later informed us that we couldn't have two tables joined, I explained that the manager had offered it himself. Her response quickly changed to, "Oh, okay, no problem then." The manager didn't stop there. He found us an even larger space near the game area that worked much better for our group. His friendliness and willingness to accommodate us was easily the highlight of the evening. Thank you, sir. Unfortunately, the food was a completely different story. Our meals arrived together, and I ordered the fish and chips. In fact, this meal is the reason I'm writing this review at 2:00 a.m. After spending the night violently sick, including multiple trips to the restroom, I felt compelled to share my experience. The moment the plate arrived, something seemed off. The fries tasted like they had been cooked in old, overused oil. They were greasy, stale-tasting, and lacked any flavor beyond salt. I suspect the fish may have been fried in the same oil because it carried that same unpleasant quality. Fresh was the last word I would use to describe it. I noticed the fries on my children's plates looked exactly the same. Considering the restaurant wasn't particularly busy around 7:00 p.m., it felt like food that had been sitting around far too long. The tartar sauce didn't help matters. It had an odd spicy flavor that simply didn't belong and tasted nothing like a quality tartar sauce should. My daughter ordered a burger, and when she handed me her pickles, I immediately commented, "Don't eat those, they taste old." I've eaten a lot of pickles in my life and never thought I'd describe one as bad, but these somehow managed to be. The flavor was unpleasant, stale, and unlike anything I've experienced before. The only positive comment I heard regarding the food was about the pancakes. I didn't try them myself, but a few people in our group mentioned they smelled and tasted decent. Even so, most plates at our table were left unfinished. By the next morning, I was paying a very unpleasant price for that fish and chips order. My overall rating is 4/10, and that's largely because of the excellent manager in the green shirt and glasses. Without him, the score would be significantly lower. As for the food itself, I'd rate it somewhere between 3 and 4 out of 10. Based on what I experienced, I have serious concerns about the kitchen and food quality standards. But my experience today as was less than desirable... the bartender (short black hair with blue eyes) has changed my perspective of this facility. I ordered a drink while waiting for my food, I didn't taste any alcohol but didn't ponder on it until I saw her make me another drink with a glass that was almost full of water... once we made eye contact she threw the glass of water out and poured what was in the shaker. Always a great spot to meet especially when the weather is nice and you can eat outside on a picnic table. We each had fish tacos. He had catfish and I had the grilled salmon special. The waiter was helpful but busy waiting on many tables outside. I'm glad Waterloo has added more diet healthy options to their menu. Great pit stop heading to Emma Long park! Only had time for a quick appetizer and drink. The catfish bites were the BOMB! Meaty and juicy and the price was right! I added a cup of tortilla soup, too. The outside patio is great because while the restaurant is in a small strip center, the back patio makes you feel secluded. Server Dimitri was so nice and pleasant!! Thank you. It has been more than 15 years since I last visited this Waterloo Ice House. It has been renovated since that time. There is a spacious outdoor patio with a playground for children. Inside the restaurant and bar appears to be larger. Not sure if the inside has been expanded or that I've been away so long (didn't live in Texas for 10 years). Net, net, the decor is visually appealing, spacious and comfortable. There is even a game room in the back. Dominica provided great service while at Waterloo. She was super personable and very attentive. We also served by...wait for it...a robot cart. Snappity Snap snap!!! The robot cart came to our table and then Dominica took the plates of the cart. So stinkin' cool... My friend ordered the country breakfast - eggs, sausage and biscuit. My friend ate her entire meal...she really liked it. I ordered an egg white omelet with sausage and biscuit. Important to note, the biscuits are huge. My omelet was good with lots of sausage. The cheese on top of my omelet and throughout the omelet had not fully melted. The decaf coffee was super strong taking 3 packets of half and half to smooth it out. The best part about this dining experience was Dominica's service! read more

Very few places have a weekday happy hour that lasts till 7 PM and this is one of those places. Anuya was busy on this particular Friday and I was all alone so I figured I should tried a new place. There is quite a bit of seating and the ambiance is cozy, this is a good place to bring young kids. There is enough beer variety to serve my needs, but the crispy fish sliders stole the show. Waterloo Ice House has all the requirements of an old favorite - extensive reliable menu, plenty of seating inside and out, scenic grounds, and accommodating staff. I've been to most of the Waterloo Ice House locations, and they're all good, but this one is my favorite. It's a handy stop coming back from the lake, and even worth the drive out of town. A group of acquaintances meet here regularly, and I joined them for a birthday party. To be exact, it's a group of old men. This is where the old men hang out. But, that's not a bad thing. Old men are usually good at sifting through the bs. The Austin restaurant scene is mostly made of pretentious spots that fall short on that criteria. We were able to take over several tables in the back room near the games. The only downside was that this turned out to be pretty noisy, and hard to talk. We split some orders of fajitas and tater tots, and then brought our own cakes. The staff helped us find a lighter to light the candles. Waterloo Ice House has their business figured out, and I'll surely be back! read more

A great family friendly spot with something for everyone. We came on a Friday evening around 5:30 on a rainy day after picking up our son from school. Luckily the place wasn't too crowded yet and we were able to have our choice of table (by the time we left, it definitely started to get packed). We ordered the sliders (pulled pork, chicken, and fish), the burger, and a grilled cheese. Also ordered a couple HH margaritas. The sliders were all delicious and the burger hit the spot. I highly recommend upgrading to the sweet potato fries with it. To top it off, you can sub fruit with the kids meal for no surcharge and it even includes a nice hefty serving of soft serve ice cream. We will definitely come back when the weather is nicer since they have a massive play area that is even fenced in so that the kids can explore on their own. read more

My husband and I decided to meet up with friends at Waterloo for lunch. When we walked in the hostess was talking with one of our friends and we were seated quickly. The restaurant has different places to sit. There is a bar area, a large dining area, and a game room. They also have lots of seating outside. There is an outdoor area with a playscape and I noticed a big screen probably for entertainment purposes. We were put in the game room at a large table. The room was kind of small but it fit our group and another large group in the same space. Not long after our waiter came and greeted us and took our drink order. Our waiter was very friendly and took care of us throughout our meal. After everyone was there and had some time to look at the menu he took our food order. One thing that stood out during our lunch was the Food Robot. It came over to our area with all of the food on it. The waiter then distributed our food to us. It was something that I hadn't seen in a restaurant before. For my lunch I decided to try the Triple Decker Quesadilla which had pulled pork, tomatoes, onions, and poblano peppers, with cheese. You have the option to choose grilled chicken, ground beef, pulled pork or veggies and I chose the pulled pork. It was nice and hot. The cheese was gooey and the pulled pork and onions gave it a little flavor. I also decided to try the Egg Sandwich. It was a sandwich with two eggs cooked any style with a choice of bacon, sausage or ham. I chose two Sunny Side Up Eggs with Ham. It came with a side of Hash Browns. The sandwich was good. The bread wasn't as toasty as I like but the overall taste was good. The eggs were just as I wanted them, the ham was a decent size and you could taste the cheese. The Hash Browns were really good and flavorful. Overall it was good service in a space that has the option for indoor or outdoor dining. read more

Called 15 minutes later and it was immediately brought out even though they knew we had been waiting. Food was cold. Would not recommend. A phone message left by the manager after the food was finally picked up blamed a conflict between the order time and the due time. This is apparently our first review, but we've actually been here one time before with a big group. It's a great place to get together with a large party when there are a bunch of kids. That's why we were here again this past weekend, and everything about Waterloo is pleasant enough. It's great to be on the patio area where the kids can go from the table to be with each other on the playscape. And the food isn't bad. We mostly stuck to the appetizers because we weren't starving, and all of them were fine. The fried pickles were crisp and tasty, and the chips trio thing was basic but got the job done. As people from the Middle Eastern world, we'll refrain from commenting on the hummus... Most of our friends got entrees that didn't look appetizing, and our kid's burger seemed to have hit the spot (tried the fries...they were good!). Our server, while not around as often as we would have appreciated, was very polite and patient with our rowdy table. Fabulous variety of choices for brunch. Settled on the spinach mushroom omelette and it is superb. The meal came with hash browns and a biscuit. The hash browns were just crispy enough. The bar is small, which makes getting a drink while you wait for for table on a weekend a lengthy endeavor. The fried mushrooms were big, honking shrooms, good crunch... Needed a better seasoned batter, another dash of salt perhaps. Texas Philly, my usual choice was pretty good. I like to take the sandwich apart and eat the contents over the tots, which in this occasion were perfectly crunchy, that would be a good appetizer.. That queso blanco slaps. This location has a great bar area with normal dinning areas as well as a huge playground for the kiddos (and the kiddos at heart). I was to pick up food for a late breakfast meeting, and this place was somewhat close. Getting in and out of there is a nightmare, although it is not their fault. I ordered a few different types of breakfast tacos online for pickup. When I arrived, I called and had the food brought out to me. I did have to wait longer than I thought I would as it took me 25 minutes to get there from the time I had ordered. Either way, I got the food and tried to get out. The only option I could find was to go back on 360 North, drive a mile and make a U-turn to head south. Of course, there was a wreck heading North. What a pain. I was told there was a back way but didn't find it. I got to the meeting, let everyone pick what they wanted, and I took what was left. I was surprised when I found two of the breakfast tacos had no eggs. Their was a piece of bacon wrapped in a tortilla. I am sure there are some people who order breakfast tacos without eggs, but I don't know any of them, nor have I ever had one without. So, I had a couple of pieces of back wrapped in a tortilla. Next time, I will be sure to let them know that eggs should be an ingredient in each taco. read more

We were here for a family event, baby shower, and had the party room and a portion of the outside area. Food provided was appetizers and, although all fried foods, very good. Beers were cold. Staff did an amazing job at taking care of everyone. Would certainly use them for hosting family or company parties. Great job. read more
