Such a cute place to stop on the way to Florida! The staff is friendly and it's an America loving small business. The food was good as well. We had the hamburger steak, baked beans, Cole slaw, salad, fries, chicken tenders and hamburger. All were delicious and very generous servings. The shop was very cute and had plenty of homemade goodies. This is definitely a spot we will visit when we drive cross country again! For those with food allergies: I didn't ask about frying foods so my son with seafood allergies didn't have their fries. They do have fried shrimp and some other seafood items and my son didn't want to risk it or make it a big deal. A lot of their snacks in the shop did have nuts. They had two menus one you order off the menu the other was plate offerings. The wife chose chicken livers, coleslaw, bbq beans and corn bread muffin. The livers were a little over cooked slaw and bbq beans were good, not much on her corn bread as it was dry tasting. I had the fried chicken (breast and wing) bbq beans, mashed potatoes with gravy, and a jalapeños corn bread muffin. The chicken was over cooked (all it was missing was a belt buckle). Wasn't impressed with my jalapeños corn muffin dried, bbq beans were good with lots of flavor the mashed potatoes could've used a little more gravy. This is self serve you ordered picked it up, got your own utensils and drinks. This a cute country store and restaurant with a garden center. The dining areas they had to patios o e enclosed the other open both had ceiling fans. Lots of seating but evidently they clean the tables tops you're going to eat at. Shady Acres Village is a combination garden center, general store and Southern food restaurant with BBQ. The general store offers a variety of fresh produce, jams, jellies, honey, relish, boiled peanuts, pickles, ice cream and a bakery offering cakes, pies and cookies. During my visit crawfish were also being sold with both boiled and live options available. They also have a gift shop inside the general store offering all manner of t-shirts along with a wide variety of tourist knick-knacks that should entertain you and possibly make nice gifts for some of your friends and relatives. For my first visit here I decided to sample a cheeseburger and I ordered their "49'er Burger" which is essentially a mushroom & swiss cheeseburger. This burger was served on ciabatta bread which ended up making the round burger meat being fit into a square bun. I have to say that I found the bun and meat rather on the dry side with the burger seeming on the overcooked side which left it lacking in juicy flavors. The square bun resulted in a lot more bread than meat which resulted in an imbalance in the meat and bun ratio of the burger. They have a lot of other great looking food here but all I've had so far was the burger and I would hesitate to order another one here after my experience with the 49'er Burger. For dessert I had noticed the general store portion had some interesting looking "Southern Deluxe" cookies they advertised as the "Best Cookie Ever" with chocolate chips, macadamia nuts and coconut. These sounded a whole lot like one of my favorite cookies I've ever had called the Royale which is sold by Hope's Cheesecake in Gulf Shores, AL so I had to try these Southern Deluxe cookies! I found the Southern Deluxe to be very close to as delicious as my Hope's Cheesecake's Royale and if the Southern Deluxe was heated up it might have even been the equal of the Royale. Overall this is a really interesting spot that might remind you a bit of a Cracker Barrel on overdrive. They have a lot of interesting things to see and eat here. Blue plate specials are reasonably priced with huge portions. Extremely tasty and fresh. My wife and I plan when we leave for our trips to our condo in OB so that we eat lunch there or so we can when we head home. Their desserts are well worth the price too. Whenever my mom and I travel, we make it a point to eat local and avoid chain restaurants. But after driving miles and miles and miles without options, we were ready to eat ANYWHERE. And then ahhhhhhh. Shady Acres Village appears. And it's super cute. Totally instagram-able and Yelp- able and absolutely worth stopping for. So we did. I really love the atmosphere of the place. Kind of reminds me of an old country store. There is a gift shop, produce and baked goods section, and the restaurant. Outside is a flower nursery. The smoked chicken is awesome. I usually get the plate lunch with sides of veggies and a bread, but there are also sandwiches, salads, and desserts. There is a nice covered porch to eat when the weather is pleasant. Worth a stop if you are traveling through, or if you are local. read more

This place takes you back to simple country living! Almost everything that comes through the store in the café is Produced locally. The food in the café is delicious including all of their blue plates. I guess that's why they have a line almost out the door every day for lunch. I love Shady acres because it's an easy stopping point to or from the coast. I'm a sucker for bakeries and you have to try their cakes. They have a range of cookies pies and cakes that will blow your mind!! I like to stop here sometimes on my way to Hattiesburg just to walk around the nursery and check out the gift shop. Great spot for a quick delicious plate lunch or sandwich. We had the chicken salad - full of fruit and nuts - and it was very good. We had a huge side of hot fresh fried okra. Sorry I'm getting back to y'all a day late. I just wanted to say that there pulled pork I guess it was called a shaggy and I got homemade potato chips. It was the bomb. It is the best pulled pork I have ever eaten in any Southern state in the past 20 years. I do live 2 and 1/2 hours away from it. But I'll tell you this, I'll be back. Stopped in for the plate lunch and went away with a full belly and a smile on my face. When the lady taking orders filled my plate with sides she was not stingy. I got my fill of turnip greens and black eyed peas. The sausage was good but the sides stole the show! Husband had smoked chicken. My parents and I went here today. When we drove up, the parking lot was almost completely full. (That had to be a good sign, amirite?) We walked in, and the smells of heaven gently lifted you into a spiritual level of happiness. And my. Gosh. It was good. This place represents the Mississippi that is dear to my heart. They have a restaurant that serves up burgers, sandwiches, BBQ, or other hot lunches. They alao have a General Store that has all kinds of fresh picked fruit like blueberries and peaches, breads, pies, as well as ice cream. They also have a gift shop that sells souvenirs, etc. They also have a friendly staff that makes you feel welcome. Think of it as Cracker Barrel, but not the enterprise that Cracker Barrel is. I had the Burger, though I was very tempted by the Country Fried Steak, which looked amazing! My burger was good though, much better than I expected. It Depends! If you like seeing 12 people greeted upon entry vs. no glimpse of hospitality when your party enters then this would be the place for you. We walked in and 3 employees were standing at the counter and they did not part their lips. Imagine my surprise when others entered and the 3 employees gave large smiles and welcomed them into the establishment. I observed this for 5 minutes as white customers entered you were greeted however if you were any other ethnic persuasion nothing was said. So, it depends do you enjoy patronizing a business with antiquated, ignorant attitudes then this is the stop for you. We would never purchase anything from a place like this!!! read more
