I vivited this bar, I happen to have not the choice but-to walk from my home. I actualy boughT somthiong at Walmart, and w/ my mind saying, "hurry, lets go drink a beewr (St. Patricks' Day,etc.?). I was placed underf great account, service, + a great spot at, (sitting)the restful "seat at the bar." I reluctantly passed a JC Penny card, I don't know the eticoute in addsressing bar servers, per "saying" in mind,....so thwe (Card) was in Thnxx, it is that I had drama-sized my thoughts, w/ the (Hostess) the one, asking if I wasn't seeming to seem sweaty, or seeming to seem so. Great place for pool and beer, home pub feel...my kind of place. I recently moved into the apartment complex next door to Shady Nook and as I enjoy pints on occasion (more often than not), I yelped this place and was standoffish at first due to some reviews. To my surprise, it's clean, welcoming and quaint. With two Diamond pool tables, juke box, golden tee arcade game, darts and a good handful of TVs, this establishment covers all aspects as to what a small pub should have. The staff is nice and makes good suggestions on beers (not much of a sprite guy, so can't comment there but sure they can stir you in the right direction if you need advice). Taps look clean and glasses as well which is nice as some places I've been too lack my trust in cleanliness which leads me only to buy bottles. No worries at Shady though! And they have pitchers! Regarding other reviews, I can see how some feel it's a locals only place but with some chat, beers and smiles, locals open up and are very nice people to chat up. Try not to keep you head in your phone and talk to people, you'll be surprised what kind of stories the scary guy in the leather jacket will tell you ;) read more

I used to work for a company that sold scuba gear. Their prices were decent but they made a killing in Las Vegas due to lack of competitors. That kind of describes the Shady Nook. Yeah, it's tucked away in a strip mall. Yes, there is still a heavy "bro" contingent (think black t-shirts, skater shoes on guys who don't skate and backwards black caps or spiky hair). Yep, it definitely is populated by Brea locals. However, compared to everything else that's around here, it's pretty good. It's a small bar where you can just chill and have some beers with some friends. The butt rock does blare with reckless abandon and if you end up sitting close to the pool tables you'll have to bare the curses of the zealous players. Your interaction can range from a noisy pool game to (for instance) some guys I saw having a poker game (no cash involved, just chips) on the middle table. You won't find any dressed up folks trying to make "the scene" and anyone you start talking to will likely not mind having a little chat. You can usually avoid OC trendoids at this place. I would count on drinking more than meeting people; the Saturday night I went there was a serious dearth of females save a pack of 6 marginally attractive chicks who kept talking out loud about needing their daily dose of dick. I can deal with the beer selection they currently have although a great variety would definitely bump this up a star. They have the usual Bud/Coors Light, Sam Adams (always good), Widmer Hef and Michelob Amber Bock (ehh). The bottle offerings were more interesting with Beck's Oktoberfest and Sam Adams Cherry Wheat. By the way, this place is open for Sunday Football and closes every night at 2am. read more

And for some reason I always judge a place based on how clean the bathrooms are because I mean it's like when you go to someone's house and you open their medicine cabinet, you just have to know what's in there. So basically you could lick the floors in these restrooms (totally gross that I just said that- please don't actually lick the floors). More of a mixed crowd for a local bar but kinda awesome. By mixed crowd I mean variety of ages (kinda nice break cause it seems like most local bars I've hit are just full of older moms that are tryin to forget they have kids at home) but basically everyone is white or hangin out with their group of white friends. I enjoy that fact that it's a beer bar because I really like beer but there isn't alot of pondering over what kind of drink to order because you've already got the genre down -BEER. lol I was there on Halloween and for some UFC fights. BTW no cover charge for the UFC fights and it was one of the most awesome times I was there because it felt kinda like someones living room but way cooler because no matter where you were sitting you had a good view and not like someone's house because they never had to make a store run. Was out in Brea on business and we needed some drinks desperately and it had to be within walking distance. We found this place. I was pleasantly surprised with the scene there. Younger guys and girls, tats and shit. pool tables. My friend and I shared a pitcher of some IPA and left. One the way out we walked through a little group of locals hanging out front and one of them said something nasty under his breath to me. Not worth my time but still unsettling. Still no liquor license as of 3/13/13 though... and this is a deal-breaker for me, as I need my hard stuff since beer makes me feel faaaaaaaaaaaat. Two pool tables and a couple TV's inside. I moved here several months ago and this place was introduced to me early on. The place is great. Its a real neighborhood bar but by no means a dive bar. This place is clean, well lighted, and pretty good crowd. Ryan the bar tender is a great dude and we look forward to seeing him and chatting with him when we go in. All of the bartenders have been nice but I think we just somehow get thirsty when he happens to be working. Basic beer selection but no hard liquor. My girlfriend and i will go in to watch football, have a few pitchers, shoot pool and just relax. I love to order food from the pizza joint next door and sitting at the bar top having a few beers and eating pizza. I'm sure that I will be coming here for years. read more

For a local place The Nook can't be beat. Just a short walk from my pad and I'm there. No liquor though so as much as I would love to say 5 stars I just can't bring myself to. Smoking is done on the patio out front but no drinks allowed out there. Another reviewer summed up what they have on tap (Budweiser, Bud Lights, Sam Adams, Widmer Hef, Michelob AmberBock, and Coors Light) Domestic pitches are $7.75 I believe-I have never gotten a pitcher of import. They do have soju and saki "shots" but it really is not the same as liquor (although the soju was tasty) I like The Nook, but then again, I like beer so what more is to be said? I had a great time here shooting pool with my friends. This is a very down to earth bar with a casual atmosphere. The bar tenders are really nice, accommodating, and they make great drinks! I also ordered mozzarella sticks which did not disappoint. They use clean oil, make fresh marinara sauce, and run a clean establishment. There are two pool tables (run by quarters), a few tables, and a jukebox. It's a pretty small place and you might have to fight for a pool table but it's a great little place to check out with friends. I took off one star because it is really hard to find. The address on yelp takes you around the corner. It is located on birch. I spent twenty minutes sitting in an apartment complex trying to figure out where it was. Shady Nook is your typical neighborhood dive bar, with a crowd of regulars and very little atmosphere to speak of. The drink prices are reasonable, which earns this place two stars. A cheap drink is about all I would venture to come here for, and certainly would not be making a trip to this bar as a destination anytime in the foreseeable future. read more

I literally live across the street and I love going there. It's your typical dive bar, pool tables, darts, juke box, etc. They have their specialty nights throughout the week. The bartender are really nice and the service is really good. The crowd has a good mix of all ages, you'll find many regulars there so it's really a nice chill vibe. The bar has snacks but is in between a Mexican place and an Italian place and they let u bring in food from the outside. Always looking forward to my next visit! cheers read more
