My husband and I went here for lunch. Best meal of the week. The fish tacos and the southwest salad were incredible! Great, fast service!

There was an hour wait so we purchased blender drinks in their outdoor bar area. Loved the outdoor area it was extremely inviting and pet friendly; however, the blender drinks were not worth the $8. Each 16 oz beverage gets about one shot, and some in our party ordered the same flavor and leftovers were added to new blender mix without adding more alcohol. Service was ok, we had to ask multiple times for water and one person was brought the wrong food. Those who ordered the red drum special loved it and thought it was great. I ordered the shrimp island bowl and it was terrible. They use the same tortilla crunch strips as Taco Bell and put some odd seasoning (nutmeg?!?!?) in the rice. Someone got the crab cakes and they were extremely bland. They do have an extensive beer selection. read more

Went at 5:30 and still had to wait about 20 minutes, reasonable for a Friday night. Waitress was friendly and prompt. Had the fried pickles- really good. Had the scallops and the were perfect. My wife had the crab cake sandwich and said it was very delicious. Inside is not very big so if you want to eat inside, just be prepared to wat. read more

The ribs are a must!!! And the potatoes are second to none!! And the service is incredible!!! This is a must stop on your vacation!!!

Just make sure you get there early. They advertise a 9pm closing but the kitchen gets backed up and they close early. Got there at 8:30pm and they were not seating. Good food and beer selection but disappointed tonight. read more

A favorite lunch spot on the Island, we've been fans of Shagger Jack's since they opened. Solid burgers, good sandwiches and excellent sides are trumped only by the fabulous shrimp taco - awe-some! The Yaupon Garden salad is also a fav - gluten-free (when served with oil and vinegar) and enough for a meal. Add on a gluten-free beer or a tropical cocktail and this place is perfect for lunch at the beach! read more

We just finished dinner - 1 hour and 15 minutes later with entree only. I was so excited to see a great menu but was a little disappointed with slow service. My crabcake slider was good but the buns were hard as rocks - obviously stale. My husband's burger was big and he said delicious. Good apple slaw too! read more

We ate here TWICE in May of 2017. Not a huge menu, but all the food was hot and delicious. I had fish tacos one day and chicken barbecue tacos the next. Others in our party got burgers and fries. The fries were the thin-sliced bar type which were a perfect compliment to the burgers. The only complaint was from someone who said the shrimp tacos didn't sit to well with an already upset stomach. Our waitress (which I think was the owner) was a lot of fun. She kept up with our group of 8 as the food came out early and often. We took advantage of the beautiful 80 degree weather and ate outside. A very positive experience!!! read more

We have eaten there many times. The food is good but we have a major complaint regarding dogs in our eating area. It is unsanitary to have dogs slobbering, scratching, slurping water and shedding under the eating area. We have witnessed waitresses stopping to pet the dogs and immediately returning to the customers. We just stopped there eat to a large dog under the table and left to go to another restaurant. FOR THIS REASON WE WILL NOT RETURN AGAIN. read more

Went here on our last night of vacation the beginning of August...if you want to avoid a crowd, go early (like 5pm). Really, really great food. I could have just eaten off of the appetizer menu - fried green tomatoes, chicken dip, steamers, mussels...YUM! Their fish tacos are good, too. What an awesome place for a casual, relaxing meal! They are dog-friendly and the owner even brought out a water bowl and dog biscuit's....he even stated he had dog beer. We sat outside on large picnic tables and watched folks at the Tiki Bar play corn hole. For the food - it was really a surprise as we were expecting pub grub, but this was way above that! We started off with their signature chicken/cheese dip which was really, really good. We also had - the fish taco's which were made from fresh caught flounder and a fresh mango salsa (very fresh and good!); ribs (which were fall off the bone good!) and a burger (great taste and you could tell was a freshly made patty). The real kicker was the gouda potato's that came with the ribs - are you kidding me....they were smack your momma AWESOME! The surprises kept coming...i ordered one of their many draft beers and out came a huge glass (22oz) which couldn't help you get in a great mood. Service was very friendly and excellent. Highly recommend if your looking for a casual lunch or dinner...we will be back! read more

Cool outside patio. Owner stopped by our table to check-in on us - I always appreciate that. Menu was limited, but everyone in our party seemed to really enjoy their entrees. Appetizers were decent (fry cones and shredded chicken dip with chips), entrees were good (mostly seafood dishes, though I had blackend chicken over gouda mac & cheese), desserts were surprisingly good (choc cake was amazing), and the beer list was pretty darn good, too. We found this place our last day on the island. If we would have found it earlier, I would have been there multiple times within the 1 week vacation. read more

Type of Food: Jimmy Buffett American Ambiance: If you want fine dining (linen tablecloths, crystal goblets, etc.), look elsewhere. If island rough appeals to you at the beach, come on in. Drinks may come in plastic disposable cups or beer glasses but that fits in with the dark woods, high tables, and long bar in the room. Plenty of the fifty kinds of beer decorate the high shelves and fit in nicely with this American casual scene that includes a half dozen long picnic tables outside that can accommodate at least another fifty patrons who might be hardy enough to brave summer's heat and enjoy the outside bar (open evenings). Part of the vibe includes several drinks named after local sites--the Shagger Sipper with light rum, green gala and sprite; the Caswell Chiller; the Barbee Breeze; and Jack's Mango Juice with mango juice mix, rum and a lime. Lest you think this place is only about liquor, they do have several kid favorites like grilled cheese, chicken fingers and hot dogs served on a frisbee to take home. Unlike the beer list, they do not offer fifty kinds of seafood; however, the conventional crab-cake sandwich overwhelms the large bun with its generosity. Items like steamed shrimp, fried calamari, and several kinds of fish round out the beach bounty. Try the shrimp on a stick for an appetizer and a sauce that builds fire with repetition until you think it'll grow hair on the balls of your feet. Difference Dividend: I've never visited a restaurant before that claims they have a healthy beer section. You could spend a lot of visits going through their fifty listed beers. Service: Helpful, cordial and busy. I did get "sweetied" one too many times. Vegetarian value: There is a black bean burger and various non-fleshy items such as nachos and a cone of fries, but regardless of the owners' claims of serving healthful food, burgers and fries get more emphasis here. Also try: The Russian stout, Raven's Eye, which claims nine and a half-percent alcohol. We got the chicken dip appetizer that was very greasy. I mixed 2 taco combo and fries and those were super good! The raspberry cheesecake was mushy. I think we would return again, but the service was rushed and they did get very busy and after a while felt like they forgot about us. They rushed us in, and sat us at a table by the door with high stools with no backs on them and it just wasn't a very enjoyable dining experience. I don't recommend the chicken dip appetizer unless you like greasy dip, but everything else seemed to be ok! read more

Food is good but the service stinks!! We have now been to Shagger Jacks twice; both times in the middle of the week to have the same experience. The apps, my salad and our food all came at the same time. Waitress blamed my husband for her delivery of the wrong order and our drinks were only refilled after begging for more. Stopped in here after being kicked out of our rental a day early. Our mood was pretty sour upon arriving and they totally turned it around. Food was good, not great. Fried pickles were a little too salty for my liking. I had the shrimp tacos with rice and beans. The tacos had a ton of shrimp and we're pretty tasty, the rice and beans were mediocre at best. The waitress we had was very sweet and attentive. We sat on the patio because we had our dogs with us. The patio was shaded and breezy and overall nice. The restaurant was very dog friendly (if you sit outside), they give you treats and fresh water for your pooch. Would definitely eat here again. read more

Friendly staff and so, I try to stop by when I am in town for some of my FAVS: the salads, gouda potatoes, shrimp burger, brunch items. I tried the special of soft shell crab on top of a polenta cake with creole sauce. Their sauces taste home made but the SSC tasted over oily and over fried; without much fresh taste. This is probably one of my favorite restaurants when in the area. This is a local beachy "pub" with different options for food from fish tacos to chicken wings and burgers. I am obsessed with their chicken wings which I get literally every time I go there. However the reason I'm giving them 4 stars is because they do not have great service and the food takes an average of about an hour to get the the table. If you do decide to come I recommend going at around 4:30 in order to get a table soon especially if you have a large party. read more

We ordered takeout. I'll say first that everyone was friendly, and the waitress double-checked the order before giving it to me. I didn't get to order anything from the bar, but they had a very extensive beer list. We ordered 2 entrees and two kids meals. Food was good, not great, but tasted fine. Crab cake was good, but for takeout, it was all mixed together, so presentation was not very good... And hard to taste the crab cake itself. The other entree was the fish and chips. Tasted good, but there were only 2 small filets on a small bed of half fries and apple slaw. We're on an island!!! The fish and chips should be huge!!! My main reason for the 3 stars (and I'm giving 1 star for the benefit of the doubt) is the value for the buck just isn't there. We've eaten at 2 other restaurants on the island that cost 1/3 as much and had just as much or better quality. Don't know if it is the takeout portions, which should be the same as dine-in, but they were small for the price paid. read more

Usually we thoroughly enjoy this place. Last year we visited, the middle aged man that seats people was a bit of a d*ck but we looked past that....this year we had another uncomfortable vibe from the same man....rude to staff. Then we had an unfortunate issue where my elderly father in law had a fall in the parking lot and this man kept making comments about him trying to get a copay???? Not sure why he thought it was comedy hour when we ended up having to take my father in law to the hospital soon after this fall. He gave us a wet table rag to clean the blood from the fall, then made the comment that we could wash it and return it...again, not funny. A very nice couple stopped to help us and noticed the same rudeness from the guy, stating they were there to get a gift card but weren't sure they would after hearing his mouth. Anyway, we will never return again after this. read more
