When she looked up to greet me, she didn't even realize that an order came through...a while ago. Oh well. She made my order pretty fast and gave me a nice heaping bowl of food to make up for it. Thanks! I'd advise steering clear of the pepper onion mix as there is a good chance you'll get a big pile of onions, without many peppers. That's what happened to me. No matter really - I just dumped out the excess. The green sauce seemed kinda watery this time, but otherwise, it was a great bowl. The chicken is still really tasty, juicy and you get a lot. So I found out about Charles from the Norwalk location however I currently live in the Bronx so I was looking for somewhere that was closer I found out that they had a location in the Palisades Mall so I decided to go and visit. Let me start out by saying just like most small food locations very clean on the inside very well lit all the food was laid out everything looked and tasted fresh my favorite dish of course is the chicken over rice with all the veggies minus the hot sauce because the sodium content is ridiculous. If you're sensitive to sodium I would definitely advise you to avoid the wings the chicken sandwich the fries the falafel the hot sauce and the pita they have a really high sodium content and if your sodium is sensitive out avoid those what's really great is that you can actually have the chicken over rice and it's very flavorful and delicious as is the actual lamb is all so flavorful and delicious as well. I would definitely give Charles five stars and I would definitely recommend that anyone give it a try if you really enjoy New York style halal over rice dishes. read more

You get so much bang for your buck here. This place is located inside the top floor of the mall and has indoor seating. Be careful with that red sauce, it's spicier than you think! I loved the kick of heat from my chicken platter. It was under $8 and was huge. Other than chicken, you can get a platter with fish, falafel, lamb of kofta kebab. The platter is basically meat with vegetables and rice. You can add all of the vegetables you want. It's Chipotle-style where they have a platter with rice and meat and you can point out which toppings for vegetables or sauce you want. They cater as well. You can also order online. Other than platters, they have salads, gyros, sandwiches and Philly cheesesteaks. I tried some of my brother's kofta kebab and thought it was great as well. Kofta's basically like a meat loaf. Even with this affliction I find it hard to walk by Shahs without getting a chicken over rice platter with hot sauce and "white sauce". Knowing full well that the rest of my day will soon be ruined I savor the 15-20 minutes of bliss eating my meal. Most of my experiences with halal food is from dirty trucks or carts in the city. It's really nice that Shahs appears clean and inviting. If you have not tried Halal food you should give this place a try just know what you're signing up for if you get indigestion. This establishment charges you a fee to use credit card, which they do not make their customers aware of. No signs and no forewarning once you hand them your plastic. Before handing in my credit card for payment, I double checked if they had any minimum charge requirement to which they confirmed none, then I noticed a fee on my receipt. Upon inquiring, it was a fee to use credit card! So deceptive especially, when I already asked to avoid incurring a fee. We've been waiting for a "chicken and rice" spot to open up closer to us and although the other one in West Nyack is good it is almost double the price.
