So thrilled to have Shah's Halal Food so close to home !!! I've traveled 3,000 miles to sink my teeth into the deliciousness of eating the chicken/lamb/rice/salad combos, complete with lots of white sauce (hold the hot sauce, please !!). We found a few places in the SFV, which is a heck of a lot better than waiting for my NY sojourns, but that's still a little schlep. Yet, the Thousand Oaks location is practically in my backyard. So excited we found Shah's !! Being the creature of habit that I am, once I find something I like, I usually don't sway or order differently to try new things. Nope. I stick with my tried and true lamb and chicken combo that comes with rice and salad, but this place definitely has more to offer than what we ordered. One thing I like about Shah's is that they let you pick what salad ingredients you want. If you want cucumbers, you get them. If you don't, then you won't get them. Whereas, other places, the salad is pretty much made ahead, and you get what they give you, which, let's be honest, that's a pretty "New York" way of doing things, and then, you're stuck trying to pick out the things you don't like or want. As for myself, I happen to love all the different salad veggies, but my husband doesn't, so he was THRILLED to be able to choose only lettuce and tomatoes... whereas I went full tilt and got them all (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, and onion). In fact, I could've even gotten MORE items tossed into the salad portion, such as garbanzo beans and bell peppers. Normally, I would've added those for sure, but I stuck with the traditional "combo" ingredients this time. Everything tasted fresh, was well seasoned, and I was given a large enough portion that I have my next lunch already made for me. They gave ample amounts of white sauce, which is great because I always put on way more than whatever any place puts on. They gave a sample of the green sauce, but whatever it was, I didn't care for it, and I just know better than to use any red hot sauce, lol. I saw they had a recent collab with The Golden Balance and wanted to try the new menu items. The golden "shahwarma" loaded pakora chips and wings were delicious. I ordered the combo with lamb and chicken, and was able to add my toppings like at Chipotle. They don't skimp here! Both meats were very tender, but the star was definitely the lamb. I was plenty full with my order and had leftovers for dinner. I had ordered burger from every single halal restaurant or place in Southern California , I never eaten something worth writing about , it was quite amazing , beautiful bread , perfect beef , tamato pickle , right amount of mayo and ketchup spread evenly. Only complaint would be onion they used , it was cut too thick and white , if they had red onion and slightly pickled it with lemon and salt , it would have been the best . I also added bacon bits and it was right amount of salty , Smokey and fat . Fries were also amazing, it was crispy , thick and mashed potato texture inside . I wish I could have taken photo of it but it was too good to be photographed . No words how much I love a good burger , it's the ultimate comfort food for me and this place so far has the best one . Shah's Halal never disappoints, this is hands down the best place in Thousand Oaks! Meats - The Lamb is super flavorful, seasoned, and juicy every time. Their chicken is also flavorful and both are perfect with their signature white sauce and hot sauce. I tried the combo plate and loved both of them. Philly Cheesesteak needs some type of sauce so just ask to add mayo to it. This is a fast casual restaurant with quality food but pricing is cheaper than most fast food! I was so surprised my plate was only $12.99 It tastes like something that should cost way more than it does, especially for the portions given. Honestly the staff was so nice and helpful I had high hopes for this meal but unfortunately I would not eat it again. I got a chicken bowl with rice, greens, hummus etc. basically everything on it. The cucumber salad tasted like I'd been sitting for a while, not fresh. The chicken tasted fine but nothing amazing. My favorite thing they had was the fried potatoes. The white sauce really killed it for me. I've had other halal bowls and the white sauce makes the meal, and Shah's white sauce tastes like bottled ranch. So unfortunate. My kids got chicken nuggets, hamburger and fries and neither liked their meal. My husband got the chicken kabob plate and also didn't care for it. Note that there is limited indoor seating. There are a couple of tables outside. Expect crowds and long lines especially in the evenings. The food is always excellent. Customer service is always friendly. My online orders are always ready on time. I have only ordered on their website for pick up, so I can't comment on Yelp orders. Walked in and was very happy to see that they were busy (we got here around 7pm). It wasn't much of a wait at all. They made our food in a timely but not rushed manner. It came out looking amazing, and it tasted even better. The portions are definitely worth the price, which is not too expensive at all, because for the quality and quantity, you're getting what you pay for. The folks who own the establishment were also working the line, which was very cool to see.
