Who doesn't love Zankou chicken. They're one of the first OG spots I think of for some bomb chicken and hummus with that garlic sauce. This place was kinda random in a nice area. It has a super casual vibe. They've really expanded on their menu over the years that I didn't even recognize all the new stuff--truth is I hadn't been back to Zankou chicken in almost 11 years. Zankou Chicken was introduced to me around 2019 and it has been one of my favorite comfort foods since. My boyfriend and I used to go to the Gold's Gym nearby for a workout and come here after for some dinner. My favorite dish is the chicken kabob combo plate with tzatziki and tabouleh as the sides. It's a big portion so I always split it into 2 meals. Such great food! We also recently tried the chicken tarna that is also very very good! We had this catered for a party and it was my first time eating it. I was so impressed with the food! I have heard great things, but never actually had it before. The chicken kabobs are so tender. Their rice is flavorful. The garlic paste and hummus is amazing. I loved their cucumber and cabbage salad as well. I will absolutely eat here again! read more

The food here is AMAZING and delicious and flavorful and well seasoned, and I really want to give 5 stars but I just can't for one reason and that is the fly problem. The last three times we have been here there have been flies around the soda machine and buzzing around the customers while they eat. I don't know what the problem is or if it's because they leave the doors open all the time but with the meat out in the open it's just so unappetizing and unsanitary for flies to be in the restaurant. They need to address this immediately. I just can't eat here with the fly problem. :( read more

To manager I'm sorry I couldn't tell the difference in taste between a radish and turnip. The taste is similar. Maybe change to a radish -it might be more tasty. The Valley Zankou might not be the original original but it's been around a long time. The food is better. Whatever happens with a family restaurant , the quality isn't the same at the TO Zankou. I would hope you would say, "We want our quality to be the best and we'll reflect on what we can do better." Rather than become defensive and try to prove my honest opinion somehow "wrong." My food was over cooked, I paid $28 for a 2 item combo no drink to dine in. There was barely any rice, no onions... The meat was so over cooked it is difficult to chew. I've been going to Zankou since the 90s and mostly frequent the Hollywood, West Hollywood, Burbank and Glendale locations. We were at our kids track meet and saw the banner for Zankou and decided to stop there for dinner instead of the usual In N Out. Big mistake. Walking into the restaurant, the staff were not friendly at all. The vibe felt completely off. After we ordered we sat and waited for our meals. As they put the food out on the counter, they didn't even call out the order numbers. When we got our meals we did not get enough pita, garlic sauce, or forks. When I went back to the counter to ask for more of these items, the workers were so off put by my requests (1 more pita, 1 garlic sauce and 2 forks) and acted like I asked for their first born child. As we ate, I realized the garlic sauce did not taste like all my previous Zankou experiences. Zankou's garlic sauce has always been light, airy, and super garlicy. This store's garlic sauce was heavy, oily, not garlicy and tasted like it was mayo based. It was so off that I barely even wanted to finish my little container of it when I normally want to eat 10 of them. I'm not sure if it was just an off day. I will say that everyone who had chicken (I'm vegetarian) said it was delicious just as all the other locations. $70 and completely unsatisfied. I'm just glad that everyone who I invited had other plans because that would have been embarrassing after all the hype I gave them. I should have listened to the other warnings on Yelp. read more

I've been going to the East Hollywood and Pasadena locations for well over a decade. I've always trusted and enjoyed Zankou. Sadly, this does not apply to the Thousand Oaks location. My daughter and I both had the exact same thing at Phillipe's Original in DTLA after going to the Broad museum earlier in the day. We both felt normal after eating. When we got back to Thousand Oaks later that Sunday evening we decided to get a quick dinner at Zankou. I got a chicken wrap and she got the shawerma bowl. We both had the garlic sauce and we both had a couple peppers. She said the shawerma felt off. At about 02:00 she started feeling horrible and felt as though she had food poisoning. I felt fine. Still feel fine. She didn't go to the ER or seek medical attention but definitely exhibited all of the signs of eating food that wasn't exactly good. This location really doesn't seem the same as the other locations, which I will still visit. At least my daughter is feeling better. Seriously, guys, you may want to do some quality control at this store. read more

Being from LA I was so beyond excited when I saw that Zankou Chicken was finally making its way up to the 805. I watched eagerly for months and now that they are finally open I rushed over for lunch. Zankou chicken is nostalgic from my childhood and memories of the "murder chicken family" times from back in the day (the real ones know the story). This location had ample parking and was easy to find as its on a main drag. They also have a nice outdoor patio for the warmer months and with how popular this spot is back home I was glad to see they had plenty of seating inside and outside. You order up at the counter and they have a pretty extensive menu. Prices are average, it's not a steal but for the portions and flavors I wouldn't call it pricey. Solid $$ for price. The service was fine. The cashier greeted me with a smile and the exchange was quick. This isn't a spot where they wait on you or have those extra cheesy smiley vibes, and I accept and love them for that. This is an LA chicken chain, you get what you get. You come for the food, not the atmosphere. The restaurant itself was clean and I felt like the service was efficient. The people working there are cooking away and my food was called out relatively quickly. Their half chicken plates are fantastic and what they are known for and I'd highly recommend it. However, when I came to this location I got their half chicken and half meat plate. The portions are massive and the proteins are juicy and flavorful. Their garlic sauce is mild but divine. I'm also a sucker for the humus, 4/5 stars for that. My favorite treat those is the pickled veggies. Yum. The current reviews don't really reflect Zankou Chicken to me. Maybe I'm biased because of eating here my whole life but I feel like that also says something, it's that good. This spot is unique flavors for the area and solid food for a quick no frills lunch. As a lover of Mediterranean cuisine I was super excited about Zankou, especially hearing so many good things. However, after two tries, it was just OK to me. Not sure if it's this specific location, since I know they're a chain, so take my review with a grain of salt! The first try was take out, and the second was dine in. First thing my SO and I noticed when walking in is that it smelled like a bathroom... you know that smell where the floor is mopped with water that isn't cleared out? That. Either way we proceeded to order and while I'm not someone who needs a smiling and peppy greeting, a simple hello or even a less annoyed look would do. In the past we've ordered the half chicken plate and although it was way overly seasoned, it was pretty juicy. This time we ordered the Lule Kabob plate and the Shawarma & Tarna Combo plate. The kabob seemed overly cooked and rubbery to chew and the Shawarma & Tarna were both pretty dry. The saving grace was their garlic sauce, that was definitely good. Their chicken wings were good too. Overall, I don't think I'll give this place a third try given all of the surrounding Mediterranean options. read more

So excited that a Zankou Chicken opened closer to us. We have been frequenting Zankou Chicken restaurants since they were first in Glendale. We ordered the Whole chicken family meal, which came with a whole rotisserie chicken, pita bread, garlic sauce, pickled turnips, and two sides; we chose Hummus and Tabbouleh salad. The chicken was tender and juicy, and so good when paired with the garlic sauce. The Tabbouleh salad had a lemon garlic taste which was very refreshing and it seemed to clean your palate for the next bite. The hummus was slightly garlicky and pickled turnips were crunchy and delicious. We also had the Tri-Tip Shawerma wrap. This is one of my go to items. The wrap has Tri-tip beef, Tahini, and tomatoes in a pita wrap. So yum! Sorry, no food pics because we devoured it so quickly, but I do have other photos. Come get your Nom Nom on! read more
