Great burger! Love the hot green chilis on the burger and in the stew. I'd suggest a slice of sweet pickle on the burger to offset the heat. Also, it would be cool to have a second line or window for shakes and ice cream. We didn't think we wanted one with our order, but we would have had one for dessert except the line was too long. I scratched my ankle open on a couple getting out of my car. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT wash your hands with anything but COLD water in the bathroom, or you will receive third degree burns from the hot side. I mentioned both of those hazards to the owner the last time I was there, but he was too busy shoving burgers to be concerned about safety issues for his customers. You eat outside on picnic benches underneath large trees that provide great shade. If you have kids this is a good place to have a little space to eat. I would say to try it for yourself. It's only about every 3-4 years that I log into Yelp and review a restaurant. I felt like Shake Foundations was worthy of a login, or not worthy, depending on how one might look at it. Great location, great outdoor vibe ... but the food. This ain't Shake Shack, which IMHO, isn't all that special to begin with, but at least their burgers are up to par. I get it. This is fast food. I'm not expecting Five Napkin Burger or BRGR. But geez, just a little effort would be nice. The meat needed more seasoning and the size was really small. The fries were fine, nothing life changing and the shakes, again, not life changing, especially considering the price. My review is mainly for the mediocre burger combined with ample amounts of pretense that surrounds this 'foundation'. Other nuisances include, they wouldn't let us order over the phone without a CC on file. Uh...no thanks. Messing up the order. There's a new burger place near Burro Alley downtown which was quite amazing in comparison. I take pride in my iron stomach and ability to digest anything without issue. Here you will find picnic tables, which on a sunny day is lovely. The burger looked good, tasted great. They claim the meat is locally sourced and hormone free, which is good. The shoestring fries were quite good as well. Did not try a shake this time. The bad: I feel the portions are small and overpriced. Visiting Santa Fe, drove by Shake Foundation and decided to give it a try. Best decision ever. Perfect medium rare burger. Fresh cut crispy shoestring fries. Thick and creamy real peach shake. The shake is definitely their foundation and they serve one of the best burgers in the region. If you are within 500 miles of Santa Fe, you must eat at the Shake Foundation. read more

Excellent burger, awesome shakes. Prior to this review, I've only had the pleasure of trying a couple of their shakes. Today I visited for a late lunch, ordered the cheeseburger and fries. They make everything for you right there on the spot, so be prepared for a wait, especially if they are busy. Everything is fresh. The lettuce was perfectly green and crisp; the tomato just right; the meat prepared just right. It tasted like a burger I would grill myself, actually. The fries were delicious. I wanted to love this place. Its super cute and its intentions are clearly great. HOwever, like the other reviewers here, the beef has an off taste and I didnt finish the burger. As a foodie, I was thrilled to see that they were using Martin's hamburger buns because everybody except New Mexico food store owners knows they're the best for burgers. The burger looked decent and the choice of toppings were good. I felt like this was a classic case of overselling and underwhelming. My green chile cheeseburger was pretty good and I didn't have any problems with the portions (but objectively I don't like large and unwieldy sandwiches). I got TONS of fries which is conducive to my burning love for potatoes and stuffing multiple things in my face at once so I loved that. But, they seemed like they had been sitting for a bit (I did finish them all bc this place is pricey and felt obligated to my bank account). My shake was okay. Overall I just felt like if the only thing you make is burgers, fries, and shakes then it should be a pretty boss burger/fries/shake. If they had spent the same amount of time working on the food as they had picking out the typeface for the sign or wood paneling for the building then this place would be rockin. read more

We heard or friends rave about this place and came for burgers and shakes after a long hike. The burgers and my husband's milkshake came out but mine didn't. The guy at the window said he'd bring it out to me. We get back to the table and my husband's salted caramel shake has raspberry ice cream in it, so he brings it to the window to ask about that and they told him it was carry over from the last shake like it's not a problem. Three or four more orders came out and still no shake for me so I went to ask. The guy said they're short staffed, what do I want from him. Nice little outside area. Ordered a double cheeseburger and milkshake. I was was expecting a lot of food. Instead I got less than a kids meal at a McDonald's. Also, asked for pickles on my burger. The very young, inexperienced people who work behind the windows at the Shake Foundation are consistently the rudest young people you will find anywhere on earth. Today, one of them, a mid 20's woman with long hair working the pick up window, took her mask off to make excuses for the long wait. When I opened my mouth to make a comment about that, she took her mask off so she could yell her excuses louder. An order of food (not covered) was in the window catching all her droplets, but she didn't care about that. The most important thing was that her screaming wasn't muffled by her mask. I've tried the place 3 times. No matter how lovely their $6 chocolate shakes are, they are not worth the horrible treatment. read more

Haven't tried the shakes yet, but love the green chili cheese burger and fries! The bun on the burger melts in your mouth along with the green chili and cheese. There is a clean, pure flavor to the french fries. You know they are real potatoes cooked in clean oil. The restaurant seating is all outdoors, which is thoughtfully placed away from the street and has a nice group of wooden picnic tables. There are a few heaters at the front. So, first, East Coasters - this is not Danny Meyers' Shake Shack. But it's not bad. Burgers are good (buns are excellent), fries are very good. Shakes are great, with Taos Ice Cream in a bunch of flavors. Service at the window can be borderline grumpy - I changed an order from a single to a double patty and the request was treated as if I'd asked for a free Cadillac with my order. Beware, the line up and order at the window model is confusing for some folks and you'll get a lot of people that wait in line and disregard the menu directly to the left/right. When they get to the window they are befuddled as to what is happening. Don't be that person, use your wait time to scope the options. Speaking of options, I would recommend both the green chile cheeseburger, as well as the fried oyster sandwich with the red chile mayo. Shake Foundation is a good place to stop for a quick bite while biking through the Railyard. The burgers are just ok, and are a bit expensive for what you get. Their shoestring fries are where you will get your money's worth, since the servings are quite large. All of their food could use more seasoning, both the fries and the burgers could use some flavor. They have some interesting shake flavors, but other than that the quality is about what you would get at somewhere like Sonic. The outdoor area is perfect for people with large groups, kids, dogs, or people with bikes. read more

I hadn't been someplace where you order your toppings individually before, so I didn't ask for toppings until after I placed my order because I overheard another customer. I asked if I could add my toppings and the girl who took my order smiled at me and said what I ordered came with toppings so I took her word and just took my order and left. It was only a bun and a patty and I paid over $5 for it. I'm sure the food is good but that was a horrible first experience. read more
