I was extremely disappointed when I went to shake foundation today. First of all this place must be the most expensive burger join in all of Santa Fe. This is definitely not worth it for the portion size you get in the food. I ordered a single green chile cheeseburger, this burger was extremely tiny and there where more toppings in the burger thanks actual meat. On the other hand there was barley any green chile on the burger maybe 3 little squares. That's definitely not enough for what they are charging. read more

Hmmm... having a hard time giving this place this rating. It is seriously on the 2 to 3 star borderline. I will say that the food is good, but portion and price is a huge factor into why the rating is the way it is. Let's start with the burgers. I ordered a double, which in my manly-mind I anticipated something filing that could potentially clog my arteries and stop my heart cold within the next 24 hours. At $6.50 a pop, I was thinking, "wow, no wonder this place is so popular." Next I had to order some shakes, which say they are made with Taos Cow ice cream. I thought the price was a bit outrageous for the size of the shake they served up, $5.95 each. We ordered two. Then came the food and the disappointment. The burger was seriously big enough that an ant could probably haul that baby off on its back. I would say it was smaller than the size of a closed fist (anger fist in this case). I slowly pecked at it to try to extend the length of my experience and satisfaction. The shakes were good, but they were also awfully small for $5.95. I don't care if its made with Taos Cow or if it was made by a cow who learned the exceptional skill of milking itself and making a shake....it's just not worth the price. I love the vibe of this place, especially the old classic hits playing and the shady outdoor seating. Sadly the food is way over priced for the portions given and the food it's self is mediocre. However the shakes are delicious (but still over priced). I have heard rumors from many people that working there is bad because the management takes the employees tips, gives no discounts or perks for working there, and does not treat the workers well. The employees themselves don't look happy while working. All in all the whole "Foundation" chain is scamming people for their money. I looked forward to trying this burger place - finally tried it today for the first and last time ... my experience was horrible! (Note: I only post reviews if I have eaten at an establishment 3 times. That's my rule - I think it promotes a more objective view). However, I will not return to this Shake Foundation ( I think it's a franchise). I used the outdoor restroom (you need a key), when I returned key to one of two service windows a service worker began screaming at me to return key to the other window. I said I didn't want to because there were seven people in line at that window and I didn't want to wait. At this point she continued screaming and told me she didn't want the key at her window and that I had to return it to the other window. I was overwhelmed by her screaming and rudeness. I returned key to other window and when I went to my table other customers apparently were surprised by my interaction and asked me what happened (she was that loud). Does this Shake Foundation have a key return protocol that is unknown to their customers? Apparently so and if you inadvertently breach protocol you'll be berated by one very disgruntled employee. So, for me, this was a one and done experience here. On another note I had a green chili cheese burger, fries and a vanilla milk shake. The fries were excellent! I had a cheeseburger, fries and shake their last night. The burger was OK. As others had said, nothing to write home about. The fries where undercooked and moderately greasy. Probably not more greasy than average, but combined with being undercooked, they were just not that great at all. The real disappointment what the shake. It was WAY to think to drink through a straw. Maybe they simply need to upgrade the straws, but drinking the shake was painful. I had to wait 30 minutes after I received the shake until it had melted enough to drink. This place is dangerous! I would probably die of heart disease if I lived in Santa Fe because this would be my new spot. Ive lived and worked in 4 states with in the South West over the last year and finding a decent burger has been elusive at best. Then, almost by accident, I stumble upon this God send. West Coast farm stand atmosphere, meaning be casual because you'll be chillin' at some picknick tables and enjoying Motown and 50/60's rock while you eat. The burgers are thick and fresh. The shakes are lacking a little. They seem a little heavy on the ice cream, a little light on the milk. If you get a chance however, try the green chili stew. I have enjoyed Shake Foundation's burgers, fries, and shakes for many years. Unfortunately, today, I was very disappointed that all of the staff were not wearing masks. Two large signs were prominent instructing customers to wear masks and social distance. I asked the unmasked cashier about the signs and her lack of a mask. She giggled and replied that masks are no longer required. I don't know if the owner declared no more masks or if this young cashier and other staff don't want to wear masks....whatever, I won't be a customer here again until safe covid protocol is used. I planned a whole trip to Shake Foundation when I went to pick up my new dog. I didn't eat all morning just so I had more room in my stomach to eat the Shake Foundation, and I have to admit, that was a mistake. I like the building. I think it could be a cute hangout in the summer where you sit outside or in your car eating food, like heck to the yes, that is the American dream. The burger, was not such a fabulous idea. While it aesthetically it was a good burger, it smelled like a burger, it tasted like iceberg lettuce. You know you have a problem when you can taste the least flavorful lettuce every known by man over a patty of meat and cheese. No salt, no fat, no crispy bits of meat, no melty cheese, just lettuce. Charged us $65 for our meal and our food got cold while we were trying to correct our order. They told us to get back in line and reorder what we wanted. This place was awesome! My husband had a double cheeseburger with onions and the mustard sauce. I had a single cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, mustard sauce, and the homemade pickles. I have to say the homemade pickles were a real treat, crispy and slightly tangy, but with a touch of sweetness, and they looked like they were made this morning! These burgers were everything a burger should be, fresh, juicy, thick, and absolutely delicious. We shared a large fry which was almost too much, but the shoestring fries were excellent as well. I also indulged in a ginger lemonade there, and I was not disappointed, it was just a little sweet paired with the acidity of the lemonade, but I wouldn't have minded more ginger flavor. Delicious burger, crispy fries and yummy shake! For me, a small burger that packs amazing flavor is preferred over a giant, hard to eat version. Shake Foundations burgers are the perfect size with a buttered, soft bun. The French fries were freshly cooked, salted and crisped to perfection. Got a cherry shake - again, the perfect size. Not too big! So creamy and awesome. Staff was very friendly and facilities clean. Also the ginger lemonade was good! Great find!!! This is outdoor eating but Day was gorgeous!. Had hamburgers that were very good. Also had spiced chicken sandwich. Asked them to put an egg on it. Stopped in for lunch today a little after noon and it was not very busy so it was easy to park and order. I had a double classic cheeseburger with onions lettuce and garlic mayo which I paid and extra $1.25 for. I also got "Mustard based sauce " on the side because "sauce" can suck if you don't know what it is. Food came out pretty quick and was hot. I loved the fries They are like In & Out Burger fries. The patties of my double were kind of fat so it was a bit messy due to the large amount of garlic mayo however, I found it very bland. The mayo didn't do much for flavor so I tried the mustard sauce that helped. The sauce looks like some red spots In yellow mustard. Maybe Lawery's season salt. I suggest to order the sauce if you are ok with yellow mustard. The eco friendly straw and food box was ok but everything goes into garbage cans and probably just dumped. We had been very eager to try their burgers for months. Finally gave them a try and unfortunately were so disappointed we will not give them a second chance. The burgers are overpriced for what you get. We ordered a couple burgers with a few add-ons, large fries, and chocolate shake. Total was $30. The meal was nowhere near worth the price. Burgers were small and meat was over cooked. Fries were very cold. Shake had a weird grainy consistency. The packaging was very primitive (open little box) and emphasized the small amount of food. The cashier stepped away to talk to someone, likely a shift manager, and returned to hesitantly inform me that they couldn't give me a bun, but would if I ordered something. A bit frustrated I ordered a soda, thinking it would be the quickest way to pay for something and get that bun. I paid $2.50, the cashier gave me the soda, I stood and waited for the bun. The cashier asked if I wanted the receipt. No, but can it have the bun please? The cashier stared at me with a blank face. I told them I just bought a soda liked they asked me to, and wanted the bun. I reminded them again that I was about to spend $30+ on food for my family and I would just like to get some bread to give to my wife who's about to blackout in the car. The cashier stepped away again to talk to the man behind the curtain and came back and told me I had to buy the bun for 50 cents. I bought a soda, but they wouldn't give me a bun because I didn't pay for one. Seriously WTF! 50 cents, a $2.50 soda, 8 minutes and 2 unnecessary charges to my debit card later I get a hamburger bun to give my wife. We had seen the long lines and decided to give it a try. Pretty disappointing overall. Service: The young woman working the register seemed like she'd rather be anywhere but there. Big contrast to a casual place like Bumblebee's where everyone is so nice. French fries: The worst I have had in years. The were burnt and bitter and greasy. I think they hadn't changed the oil in some time. We ate half of our order and threw the rest out. I can't remember throwing out french fries before. What a rip-off! Smallest burger I've ever had that wasn't advertised as a kid's meal or a slider. No combos. Everything is seperate order. The small fries are bigger than the burger. I've been to shake foundation 3 times now. I love a good burger and I've had just about every burger in town. What bothers me about shake foundation is you don't get what you pay for. A "double foundation" burger costs $7. Sounds big, right? It's not... It's comparable to a "mcdouble" (McDonald's dollar menu burger blah) in size. Then there's the fries. Small fries is $4. So what if they're hand cut. It's still just a fried potato. Nothing to it. Id be ok with the price if they were really good... But they're just not. They're pretty mediocre. The taste of the burger is pretty bland. I don't care much for overly salty foods but their meat is very under seasoned. It's not a bad burger, but it's just not that good. Kinda bummed. Really wanted to like this place and my first experience didn't go as planned. We got burgers and fries and they gave us someone else's order (wait time was about 20 mins). We gave them back the wrong order. At any other reputable establishment, they would have given us our fries to munch on in the meantime or would have made our order a top priority. However, it took another 20 minutes of waiting, mind you it was very slow with only a handful of customers. Once my friend went back up to check on the order, they looked a bit surprised to see her and then started making our order again. Get the green chile cheeseburger, and no, don't get any other toppings - that way you can savor the perfect blend of meat, chese and heat. The fries are hand cut, thin and crisp. The shake flavors change daily according to which ice cream is on hand. I am now a huge fan of Taos Cow Ice Cream which uses natural and organic milk & eggs. I had lemon, my date had cherry. They were the kind of shakes that you will turn your face inside out trying to suck through a straw, so we took them with us and finished them on the drive back to ABQ. The slowly melting flavors were heaven in a cup. You know how sometimes you avoid a certain food because it is essentially not healthy, per se, and then you decide I HAVE EARNED A TREAT, so you think about it and find what you want and then make a date to go get it and sometimes it turns out that what you got to sate that craving wasn't worth it? Sandwich had a mushroom the size of a quarter, no cheese, oozing mayo and a stem piece of lettuce. I asked at the window to please make the sandwich right. I was told that sometimes the mushrooms come in small, and there's nothing they can do. The woman in charge called the manger after refusing to make good on the sandwich, spoke entirely in Spanish except for, "I love you, Sis" repeated 4 times. She handed me my money.
