The shakes are good, there is no question about it. They only come in one size though and are very pricey. I had a burger and fries which were about average, but also very pricey. I'ld go back for the shakes but not for the burgers. Even then it would only be a once in a while treat just due to the cost alone. It's a cute place though, with friendly servers and a nice outdoor seating area full of park tables lit with overhead Christmas lights. There is no inside seating though so plan on taking it home if it's raining.

    Seriously?

We discovered this place the year we got married in 2016, and it used to be one of our favorites. Unfortunately, it has really gone downhill. At a burger spot, you'd expect pickles to be standard--or at least a decent dill option. Instead, when we asked, the cashier (who was very unfriendly) said they charge extra and they're "different & homemade." $3.60 later, we regretted it. The pickles were spicy, unpleasant, and honestly tasted spoiled. My mother even said, "These aren't pickled right--I'm going to be sick." On top of that, they forgot the Shake mustard sauce on all our burgers, and what they did offer for sauces was poorly presented and underwhelming, frankly embarrassing. This place used to be a gem for us 10 years ago. Sadly, in 2025, it's an F in our book.

Serviceable burger but no great shakes, if you'll excuse the pun. The meat was good, but the flavor/seasoning was nonexistent. The fries were awful. The service was just OK. You could get something better at McDonald's for half the price, frankly.

When in town, we have tried their burgers numerous times. This trip I opted to try their chicken sandwich with green chilis. I really enjoyed it! Would definitely order this again.

Before I made my way to Santa Fe, I did some research on the best green chile burger. Shake Foundation came to the top of the list. While I came to Shake Foundation for the green chile burger, it ended up being my least favorite item. I couldn't taste the chile, not much else, really. I decided to add some ketchup and mustard. The salted caramel shake was really good! When they say thick, they mean THICK! The fries here were also quite good. I would definitely try them out again. There were some other good items on the menu.

We happened to drive by Shake and needed lunch so we tried it out on a whim. I was surprised to see the lower reviews, we had a solid lunch! There is no indoor seating here, there are plenty of tables outside if the weather is nice and they have a cute little set up. It was snowing when we arrived so most were grabbing food to go or eating in their cars. There are two main windows - one to order at and one to pick up your food. You get a buzzer after ordering that lets you know when it's your turn to grab your food. The menu is mostly burgers plus fries and ice cream. We tried a single cheeseburger plain, the fries, and the spicy chicken sandwich. My partner also tried out the ice cream (vanilla with chocolate chips on top). The cheeseburger was very good, as was the chicken sandwich! The fries are shoestring style but more on the limp side. Not my cup of tea but the flavor was fine and they were fresh. The ice cream was excellent. Overall cute spot to grab a bite to eat!

Fantastic fries and some stellar ice cream! I came around lunchtime on a Saturday and the parking lot was pretty filled. It is an unpaved lot and could be an issue for small cars, my small SUV had a lightly difficult time leaving because of a little dip by the exit. I ordered the buffalo burger and a cherry ice cream sundae with piñon on top, as well as split fries with a friend. I would say the fries were comparable to IN-N-OUT style, crispy and about the same size cut. The cherry ice cream was so good, I'd go back just for that. They also had decent quality whipped cream and you can't go wrong with good whipped cream on a sundae. The burger was lacking in flavor and a bit small (but filling!), in the future I'd probably just opt for ice cream and fries because that's really where its at anyways.

Please change your cashier. She's rude to EVERYBODY, including seniors. I've been here multiple times and she's always in a terrible mood.

The goodness began with Naomi, who helped me fix an error in my reservation and get a table at a good time tonight. The goodness continued with our server Mitzi, who should be teaching graduate classes in hospitality in every big city. She was friendly without being overbearing, informative without being pedantic, subtle and gracious. Now, the food! My wife chose the vegetarian tasting menu and I had some of each dish: so very flavorful (a green salad with pears, a life-changing mushroom bisque [and I don't like mushrooms!], a chickpea croquette with pickled artichoke hearts and ratatouille, and a substitution of the lemon crepe for three yummy scoops of sorbet and gelato. I chose the scallops, perfectly cooked and moist, over couscous, and a dish of tasty sauteed baby spinach. A wonderful experience, and not overpriced, and everyone treated us sweetly. The musical soundtrack was swinging, and at a compassionate volume. Our first trip to Santa Fe, and we found a gem. Hooray! And thank you, Mitzi!

The interior is classy and very comfortable. We were seated at a nice comfy corner booth. The soft music in the background was soothing and just noticeable enough without being a distraction. We were served complimentary flutes of local sparking wine and a fresh baked bread basket and butter to start. We then ordered cocktails and three starters. First was a split plate of the endive smoked duck salad with a warm bacon vinegarette. Wow...this was nice and refreshing. This was followed by the crab dumplings with fresh corn and peas and lobster sauce. Delicious! The final small plate was seared foie gras on top of banana bread toast. This was very good. I miss foie gras. Unfortunately, it's banned in California. They had a 2023 Sea Smoke "Ten"Pi ot Noir on the wine list. This is one of the best Pinot Noirs produced in California and not easy to find. This was a no doubter and we ordered a bottle to pair with our entrees. My wife ordered their signature elk tenderloin for redemption because the restaurant the night before failed at executing this. I ordered the tomahawk pork chop. This was cooked to perfection with a nice thin crust on the outside and a perfect very light pink juicy center. We ordered a side of brocolini that was pan roasted with shallots and butter. Everything was very good and Michelin grade in our opinion. Lastly we ended the evening and split the tiramasu type of desert. My wife had the expresso martini and I had an 18 year old Glen Morangie scotch neat. The service was excellent and worth the splurge. This is a must when visiting Santa Fe.

My husband ordered the Guajillo Braised Boneless Short Ribs, which were cooked to perfection--tender, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. In my case, the scallops were slightly overcooked and a bit tough, and the corn purée was a little too spicy for my personal taste. The fry bread and the Picuris salad were excellent and truly memorable. The restaurant is located inside the beautiful Hotel Santa Fe and offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere, with a wood-burning fireplace and a very friendly staff. Overall though the food was good. We had a newer waiter that was unfamiliar with the process so that was aggravating but overall the food was delicious. We did the set $90 price fix menu. However, I decided to go with an appetizer I've never tried, the Bang Bang Shrimp, which was dynamite! You get four very large, crispy shrimp in a sweet-and-spicy sauce, though I didn't find it spicy, if that's a concern for some. The sauce was very tasty; the shrimp had great flavor, were plump and tender, and they were indeed crispy. This went very well with the arugula under the shrimp. I'd order this again in a second. I then had two tacos à la carte: Baja Fish beer-battered cod and Carnitas. Both were very large and excellent. The pork on the Carnitas was indeed crispy as it should be, and the cod was perfectly fried and delicious. My wife had the Asian Tuna Noodle Crunch Bowl: seared tuna, lo mein noodles. The dressing was superb; the Tuna was perfectly seared raw, and all the items that came with the salad (mango, red cabbage, daikon radish sprouts, kale crunch, edamame, cilantro, peanuts, toasted sesame) made for a lovely and delicious meal. Our server, Tony, did a fantastic job of keeping us all happy. My only 'complaint' was that Boxcar doesn't serve their amazing Brussels sprouts, or at least not all the time. Not on the menu. I told Tony and the manager how much I love them and was told it may come back as a special from time to time. Man, the Boxcar Brussels sprouts are amazing! Boxcar has very, very good food, and I would usually avoid what appears to be a 'sports bar,' but James Beard Foundation-recognized Chef Eric Stumpf will please the foodies every time. What is nice is that Boxcar has several seating areas, so if you're into food and not the 'bar scene,' they can seat you in an area that is quiet.
