I can't believe I paid $15 for this. That is more of a reflection on life in 2024 than my shake ramen. Honestly it kinda reminded me of those salads McDonald's used to have. I was overcharged $2 for an egg which was not disclosed to me. No where on the menu was it mentioned that eggs are an extra charge and the only reason I saw this was because of the receipt I asked for. Once I saw the extra charge spoke to the cashier who seemed very hesitant to refund me and continuously asked me if I wanted to egg still after stating I wanted a refund. If an egg is $2 that's okay, what I didn't appreciate is being charged for something that I had no idea was an extra charge. My receipt does not specify this either. Man we used to love you guys but last night was atrocious. We went to this food truck event in Santa Clarita last night and boy it was not what we were used to. Got our order wrong twice. Forgot our drinks. When I mentioned it they gave one drink and still forgot the other so we just gave up and took the L. Idk if it was because they were busy or what but it's just not a good feeling getting your order wrong twice and then being charged for items you didn't receive. On top of it the ramen was not the same quality at all. Barely even touched it after a few bite because it tasted completely different from what we've had before. read more

Got to try this food truck with my friend at the Japan Fest in Anaheim, CA. Super unique concept that we've never seen before so we were excited to try it. I ordered the Chasu Rice Bowl, and the food came out quickly! The food tasted alright. The Chasu was too fatty, and there were only a few pieces in the cup. I was mostly eating rice, but I did love the sauce in it. My friend ordered tofu ramen and wasn't thrilled either. He said he's had much better before. The concept (shaking up ramen in a cup) sounds absolutely ridonculous...which means I absolutely have to try it at some point. To my surprise the ramen is actually decently good! I'd actually get a whole thing if I found these guys in my neighborhood. It's not going to compete with sit-down ramen shops on quality, but it's good enough and in a cutely portable package. Since we bumped into these guys at a food festival (626 Night Market), we were mostly interested in trying out a sample. Their mini is definitely a good snack (split between two) if you're hoping to avoid a full meal. Their picture is quite accurate to the amount of food to expect. Despite being mostly dry the amount of shoyu flavor they manage to get to cling across everything is surprisingly good. Toppings were pretty fresh, though the spicness seems to mostly be chili flakes (as opposed to paste). Regular garlic had a good dollap of garlic paste to get mixed up. The pork belly option had a reasonably moist and tender piece of chasiu. Noodle texture was good: pretty bouncy and decent chewiness. And of course the novelty of having to shake up your ramen (in a) cup. :) read more

Had Shake Ramen at Anime Expo Day 3 and when i opened it, it was just noodles. I went back to the window and they added my toppings and meat. While I was eating it, the noodles were quite bland and I realized they did not add their ramen sauce. Went back a second time and they added it. As I continued eating, I realized I couldn't taste any garlic or spice despite ordering it mild and level 2 garlic. Did not want to go back a third time so I just finished it. I got to try this place out at the 626 night market and it was honestly one of the best things I had that night. It was pretty customizable with what you can pick for toppings, how much garlic you wanted, how spicy you wanted it, and had 3 broth choices. You fill out a sheet with what you want and then hand it to the staff. I got the char siu with level 1 spice and soy sauce based broth. The noodles were pretty chewy and thick. The flavor of the broth was strong but not overly salty and it was so good with the spice! I honestly regret not getting another cup. read more

We had a shake ramen at 626 Market. I really liked the concept of soup-less shaken ramen but the food was expensive and the portion was small. It tasted good, but I probably won't come back. They have a great system where you get a copy of the menu and check off what you want with a pencil, which makes the line go very smoothly so that was a plus! The service was good. Ordered from their stand at 626 Mini Night Market in Santa Monica. Was excited to try because I saw lots of posts on Instagram and I love ramen. My order was: Mini ($15) Shoyu ramen, level 2 spice, level 2 garlic, ground beef, bean sprouts, cabbage, & corn. They charge extra for extra sauce, an egg, or extra toppings - which I think is wild because it's already $15. It is NOT soup like normal ramen, it's just noodles (mostly dry) with a tiny bit of sauce. To my disappointment it was COLD. The flavors were good but it was no where near the quality of good ramen you can get in Sawtelle or even at Ramen Nagi in the Century City mall. Is it fun to shake? Yes, but be careful not to pop the lid off! Ultimately I was disappointed because I wanted warm ramen on a cold night but instead I got cold noodles for around $17 with tax. read more

I tried Shake Ramen @ the Bruery and was surprised how good it was!!! To me, food trucks are hit or miss, so I wasn't too sure how I would feel trying ramen from a food truck. It was very, very tasty!!! The guy working was very friendly. The food came out so fast! I ordered the miso ramen with pork belly, spicy garlic, and spicy level 2! ** Based in Hawthorne, but they do many events around LA, OC, and NorCal. My experience was at the 626 Night Market. On paper, the concept sounds pretty cool. Think Cup Noodles... but instead of styrofoam packing, replace it with one of those fat cups from Honey Boba (RIP). Upgrade the quality of the noodles, ditch the seasoning packet, and add real ingredients you'll find in a regular bowl of ramen. Then shake! But the execution wasn't the tastiest, it's like a brothless noodle salad that doesn't leave you satisfied. Very little noodles, too much spinach. Soft boiled egg was probably left in the pot a little too long. Pork belly flavor was disappointing. While I would've loved something more soupy rather than saucy, I do understand they're trying to do a modern twist on abura soba. And it was also a hot day out, so I was okay with it. The cup is very customizable, you can choose from a variety of options to match your taste preferences. They have two main sauces (shoyu or miso), and spicy garlic (adjustable depending on your tolerance). Main proteins include pork belly, ground beef, and tofu. To top it off, you can add bean sprouts, spinach, cabbage, corn, green onion, an egg, and extra noodles. I had the chance to check out Shake at the Japanese spring festival in Las Vegas this past weekend. It was a really great event with a lot of good food, but something about "soupless ramen" really piqued my interest. The experience overall, however... was a little underwhelming. Let me explain. First off, nowhere on the truck itself was it mentioned that this ramen didn't have soup. It's not mentioned on the menu or written anywhere that you would know, unless you had researched it beforehand. There is a TV playing a video of DJ Pikachu that could be better utilized explaining what the product is, in my opinion. They also don't take your order, but instead had two iPads setup to order on your own, which by itself I don't mind. But one of the iPads was dead, and the other was being occupied by an older lady who clearly had absolutely no idea how to use this thing. I don't know how long she had been struggling before we queued up behind her, but my wife and I watched her struggle for several minutes before my wife offered to help her. It then took several more minutes to get her order to her satisfaction. This entire time the truck just... wasn't doing anything. They never asked the woman if she needed help, they didn't come out to fix the second iPad, and they weren't taking orders themselves. I just don't understand why you would sit there while someone struggles with your system and actively costs you business. I found that a bit odd and if I'm being honest, more than a little bit rude. But whatever, we were hungry, and the sunken cost was now too great to go back. We ordered two ramen with pork belly and with one add one each (one egg, one extra sauce), our bill came out to $40 with tax and tip. Ouch. But we knew that beforehand. The food was ready super fast and we were on our way. They give you the food in what looks like a chubby boba cup so you can shake it to mix everything up. Which is a neat idea. But the vessel is narrow and it makes mixing difficult. There's a reason salad places don't give you salad in a cup. Heavy stuff simply settles to the bottom (sauce, meat, corn) and the light stuff creeps to the top (veggies, really). In the end it isn't very mixed at all. In my opinion they should just change it to a bowl to allow for better, and easier, mixing. As for the flavors themselves, it's actually really good. It's not as good as ramen with soup, let's get that right. Not even in the same category. But it's not bad at all. The pork especially is really delicious. For $18, I just wish there was a little bit more. But it was very tasty all the same. It's also a deceptively large portion. When I saw the cup I was a bit disappointed, and thought, "I'll definitely still be hungry after this". But I wasn't, and I found myself quite full. I don't know how to feel about this one. I wanted to like it a lot. I like the concept, and I sort of see the potential that these folks clearly see in it. But the entire experience was just so "meh" it's difficult to be optimistic about a future return. I just don't get the point of ramen with no broth. The broth is sort of the star. If I wanted noodles without sauce I'd get soba. Or yakisoba. Ramen just isn't the right noodle for this approach, in my opinion. I also think they need to reconsider the cup. Shaking is cool, but chipotle and mixt have already solved this problem: use a bowl. And iPads are great and all, but for the 60+ crowd it's not always going to work. Be more mindful of the overall customer experience, and if someone is struggling, maybe lend them a hand or just manually take their order. People obviously like it, but I think it just isn't for me. Best of luck on this one, y'all. Personally I'd just go get an actual bowl of ramen, if it were me. But you could do worse, I suppose. read more

Giving this two stars only because the food was fresh. Ordered the chicken miso ramen. The staff had a stack of lidded, food-filled plastic cups that I could see sitting next to them on a counter. The person I ordered from simply grabbed one of the cups and started shaking the cup. That did absolutely nothing to mix the food. Only managed to get the almost indiscernible amount of sauce around most of what was in the cup and beat up the sparse, uncooked vegetables that were tossed in the prep. It was cashless pay on a stationary iPad type device. Easy check out right? Not exactly. When you went to pay, it immediately went to the tip. A TIP THAT THEY HAVE PRE-SET TO 20%! It is easy to miss this bit with a line behind you, an atmosphere to just hurry up.... so you just hit "continue". Boom! 20% tip that you didn't intend to give. Unless you really examine the screen and spend time hitting the "custom" button, the least you can tip is 10%. I am someone who always gives 20%, but that is by choice, not by force. Handing me a lukewarm, pre-made plastic drinks cup with food in it wouldn't be one of those 20% tip times. Total grifting. The food? Lukewarm, almost cold. Which made the contents of the cup slightly unpalatable. No idea how long the pre-filled cups of food had been sitting around on that counter, but long enough to cool off considerably. That was pretty concerning as the temp of this cup of noodles was well below the temperature at which pathogens are killed, but warm enough to grow bacteria in unheated food sitting around. I have worked in food service. Had this been reported, the health department would have shut them down. Due to the unheated hold temperature of the food, we were a bit concerned about food poisoning. Luckily, that did not happen. Because this ramen is in a regular, narrow-bottomed large plastic cup, nothing mixed when it was shaken, and no amount of shaking will change that. All it does is smash around the very few raw vegetables. Luckily I chose chopsticks to eat with and could mix it up a bit...but not completely. That left a massive cup of barely warm , thick udon noodles, (not ramen by any stretch of the imagination), in a paltry, almost not there "sauce", graced by a few meager leaves of spinach, some shreds of red cabbage, around 6 corn kernels, 5 bean sprouts and a very small, very scant pieces of chicken stuffed into a plastic drinks cup. For $15. Plus tax and the grifted, 20% tip? The total was just under $20. For a plastic cup of noodles. Not ramen. Not impressed. Won't repeat. read more

I came across Shake Ramen at the Ktown night market and their logo and concept immediately stuck out to me. As opposed to traditional ramen, there's no broth here. It's dry ramen with your choice of sauce (shoyu, shio or miso). All you gotta do is shake it when you get it to mix everything together. They combine everything into a container and you get to choose what you want in the cup. The customization is pretty cool and allows you to make your bowl just the way you want it. I opted for all of the free sides, pork belly and shoyu with level 2 for spice and garlic. I was a little disappointed that the cup in the picture isn't the same size as the what I actually got. For $8, I liked how we got a soft boiled egg with the ramen but I wish we could've gotten more noodles or a bigger portion. Regular bowls of ramen go for at least $8 now but I thought we would've gotten more for our buck. Maybe it's the price hike for the night market... anyway, I thought the cup of ramen was alright. I love how this place charges $8 for a hodgepodge of ingredients thrown together in a cup along with some soy sauce. They basically take everything that you love about ramen, and give you something different. I mean, but of course, the convenience is so worth it! Like, eating some noodles out of a cup in the middle of Westwood for $8...what a steal! It isn't at all close to buying a...what's that thing you can buy at convenience stores or SEAS Cafe, uhm...it's in a cup and it has noodles...oh yeah--cup noodles. Had it tonight at the Rosemead Moon Festival. 1. Had the Miso regular ramen with garlic and spicy (2) / all the sides. Was thoroughly disappointed. As others have stated prior, it was extremely salty. It could have been the fact that with everything dry, it was hard to mix up the sauce. It had nothing particularly special about it. What might have helped was if there was a spoon of soup, it could have helped spread the sauce around. For 10$, I will skip next time. I tried this place at the OC Night Market and the 626 Night Market as well and both times the Shake Ramen was just as good! I've ordered the Pork belly ramen in a mini cup ($8) and its been great! The process of ordering is pretty great. They have a pencil and paper with options to build your own Shake Ramen then you bring that paper up to the front to order and pay. I ordered the mini ramen with miso (Soybean) sauce. The spice and garlic level they have a 0-3 option with 0 being nothing to 3 being a lot of spice or garlic. For main toppings you have the options of pork belly, ground beef, or tofu. Your free sides include bean sprouts, spinach, cabbage, corn, and green onion. The $1 extra sides were egg, sauce, and toppings. Once you get your sealed Shake Ramen; you shake it as much as you can to get it to mix together, which is the fun part.
