Oh how I love Shake ramen! It is soooo delicious and flavorful! My husband and I have only been able to catch a meal from the OC Night Market because they are a food truck and don't have regular hours year round. They let you customize what you want in your cup too like miso, garlic, veggies, egg, pork belly, etc and how spicy as well! Don't expect this to be a soupy ramen though, it is more of a noodle dish with lots of flavor that you shake up in the cup! My only complaint is that their website is never updated or working properly, so you don't know when their next stop in case you want to try them. I wish they had a regular weekly or monthly schedule of where they serve and a working website, but overall the ramen is just delicious! We ordered a shoyu plain ramen with a little spice and extra noodles. Paid $8. No worries we thought, we requested extra noodles and thought we paid extra for that possibly. When we receive the order it was less than half a cup of noodles. I've had Shake Ramen a couple times now, and uhm well. What can I say? I love noodles and this was very enjoyable. Both times I ordered a spicy miso ramen, with a level 3 hot, regular garlic, pork belly, and topped with corn, green onion, and soft boiled egg. I know that there's like 0 veggies in my order, but the thing about me is.. I don't like veggies in my ramen bahaha. Also my coworkers got veggies in their ramen, and it seems like they got less noodles. See, not eating veggies pays off! Jk, that's just what it looks like.. So the ramen itself is dry/saucy ramen, and does not come with soup. I prefer ramen with soup, but I also love dry noodles. You're supposed to shake it before breaking open the seal, and then dig in. I think the flavor itself is quite good, and although I got level 3 I didn't think it was spicy. I also really like the egg, it's cooked perfectly with a nice gooey yolk. The noodles are on the thick side, and actually I LOVE the texture. It's got a nice chew and the sauce clings to it very well. The pork belly could use some work. It's got good flavor but was kind of tough. Overall, a really cool concept! I also like the way we order, which is just by marking on a piece of paper what kind of toppings and levels and flavors and such you want. It's much easier to order like this than just yelling out whatever you want, and probably harder to fuck it up lol. This also may or may not be a factor, but both times I've had Shake Ramen, is when my work rented out the trucks and therefore it was free for me both times. The price is very reasonable (7.50 for a small combo with ramen AND milk tea boba) and it is very delicious. I hope they never decide to move to a different location because I eat here every pretty much every week. You can choose your meal size, spicyness, protein, and toppings. They have quite a few options for you to customize your ramen, including differing spice and garlic levels from 1-6. I would recommend going all out on the garlic (will realllly help giving amping that flavor and also giving you very fresh smelling breath). Spice level "4" was enough for even my anti-spicy friend to eat it, but for me to taste that kick. Because it's not soaking in delicious, 110% pork-fat broth, the ramen tastes quite light. But that's why you have to ramp up the garlic to the point of scaring off vampires. The portion is on the smaller size, but decent enough for you to feel satisfied. It's $5.95 for a mini that is good enough for one person to be satisfied, two people to have a fulfilling snack. Although Shake Ramen has a relatively fresh concept and the flavors are fresh, something doesn't quite give you the "agghh" good food should. Something's lacking. I can't ask for more from a ramen truck, I think Shake Ramen is absolutely genius! The staff is more than friendly and you can see them craft together your ramen in a cup. They only have dry ramen on their menu right now in miso, shoyu, and shio flavors. You can customize the garlic and spiciness levels, add the meat or tofu that you want, and all the toppings! This was actually pretty darn good, which I was not expecting considering its ramen in a cup (reminded me of instant noodles, but thank goodness did not taste anything like it). The only thing that one should expect is that it's not the type of ramen that has soup in it. It's dry ramen drenched in the sauce of your choice with toppings. Price: The price range was roughly ~$5.75 (mini), ~$7.25 (mini combo), ~$8....(regular), ~$9....(regular combo). The drinks by themselves ranged from $3~3.75 i believe. I chose the Mini size and it was decently filling. The size of the mini is basically the size of a regular sized boba cup from MJ's or Half and Half (basically that awkwardly sized boba cup that doesn't fit in the cup holders of your car, if that helped) Step 1: pick your sauces. I got the Shoyu (soy sauce based), which was pretty bomb. It kind of tasted like the ramen you'd get from a Ramen shop. There were also Miso and Shio (salt based). Step 2: choose your toppings. I got everything. There wasn't a limit. It consisted of an egg, dried garlic, bean sprout, cabbage, corn, and green onion. Step 3: choose your protein. tofu, ground beef, or pork. I got the pork and I highly recommend getting it. Step 4: choose the level of garlic &/ spicy level. 0 (nothing)-3(alot) I got level 3 garlic and level 1 spice level. So when I saw it again at another festival I had to try it and let's just say, I am hooked at well. I love the brothless concept, it made it so much easier to eat. Out of the 7 booths I visited, this was my favorite! 4.5 stars, but rounding up to 5 for good measure :) There was a guy standing outside that was taking orders. I liked how each order was customizable, and you got to choose your base, meat, and toppings. I got miso base, pork belly, and corn, egg and green onions. When you get your order, it comes in a boba-like cup with the plastic seal on top. You shake the ingredients thoroughly, et voila! You have portable ramen! It was sooo good. The only disappointment was the egg wasn't as great as I was expecting. It was cold, and wasn't cooked like I normally get at regular ramen places. Also, they could have put more noodles in it, because I ended up eating a lot of noodles and had a lot of toppings left afterwards... but other than that, no complaints! The had a person explaining and taking the order before you pay. Flavor was good I just wish it had more ramen noodles and the fact the the pork belly is pressed and not fried was a mistake for me. Granted I didn't get all the free toppings but still. You'd think there would be more noodles to make up for it. Overkill with the sprouts..I want more noodles! I also ordered one with beef with just ramen. The cashier said that it'd be too little in the bowl since my kids didn't want toppings. She suggested extra noodles. The bowl was almost half full.
