I do like how they have kiosks inside where you can order, wait for it and go! Ambience at lunchtime wasn't hectic which was surprising, but maybe I came on a good day. I've been to some pretty bad Shake Shack locations around the country, but this one is good! The only issue is that the food takes longer at this location but they get the orders right so I am willing to wait. The food is delicious and fresh. It's usually clean inside but they don't have many tables so you may have to wait to sit down. If you have a group, split up and let some people hold a table. They don't put any napkins in the bag which is so annoying. The staff is friendly and helpful. read more

The worst place ever. Went in to get a sandwich and fries. Paid for the order. Then they insisted my card was not charged . I opened my Amex app and showed that the charge went through. That was not convincing enough to the store manager Andy. So left hungry and now disputing it with Amex. Don't go there unless you want to leave hungry after being charged for the meal. read more

My office is on the same block as this Shake Shack, and during my first visit this week, I stopped by at peak lunchtime expecting a long wait, but I was out in no time! The service is fast and efficient--a 10/10. Here are a few highlights of this location: The Food: Everything was very fresh. You can tell they aren't just pre-making food and letting it sit; my burger was hot, and the fries were crispy. During my recent visit, it didn't seem like the food was pre-made, as you can see the kitchen staff behind the counter cooking, grilling, and so on. The Vibe: The staff is super friendly and helpful, which is impressive given how busy they were. Usually, with popular chains like Shake Shack, you might find staff overwhelmed or stressed, but here, the team seems used to high demand. They didn't seem phased when handling what must be a TON all at once: take-out, counter, and contactless orders (there are machines on the side of the counter where you can place your order without going to the counter). You can tell this Shake Shack location takes customer service seriously, and the staff here was on top of their game--friendly and attentive. It's obvious this location has a strong team with good morale. The Space: It's a bright, friendly spot, really important for a busy fast-food place. The staff was always cleaning and tidying up to keep everything neat and inviting. Surprisingly, the customers here were pretty good about pitching in by throwing away their trash and making sure their tables were ready for the next people. Usually, at places like this, most customers just leave their trays or napkins for the next person to clean up, but it was cool to see that everyone here was respectful and cleaned up after themselves. There's plenty of seating, with big tables for groups and smaller ones for a couple or solo diners, so everyone can find a comfy spot. There's also a condiment station stocked with ketchup, mayo, mustard, straws, and napkins, all clearly labeled so you can find what you need quickly. Next time I crave a burger or shake, I'll definitely come back to this spot, not only because it's perfectly located right next to my office but also because I enjoyed both the service and the food, especially the quick turnaround, which gives me more time during my lunch hour to run a few errands! Update in Winter 2024- Feb 29, 2024, to be exact--Leap Day. THE FOOD IS ALWAYS GREAT AT SHAKE SHACK. You should definitely eat at Shake Shack, let there be no doubt. This is really to respectfully ask Shake Shack to please put some sort of WIND BLOCKER BY THE DOOR, here at 3rd Ave and East 40th Street, FOR THE WINTER MONTHS, at the very least. Today, the only regular table I was able to get was right by the door, and EVERY TIME the door opened, the wind was unbelievable!!! Stuff blew off my table!!! Every time! I sat with my winter coat hood on each time the door opened. People entering--WIND!!! People exiting--WIND!!! As I write this, I'm at the table, hood on, and a napkin just blew way over yonder. I've been meaning to check this place out as it's not too far from where I work and plus it's a fairly large location. I knew that I wanted to get the truffle burger and it didn't disappoint. I also got their seasonal holiday shake which was the apple cider donut flavor. It was really sweet so I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped. The person at the cashier was nice, but he misheard that I wanted it to go so he has to rewrap up my order and put it neatly in the bag. Overall, I would go back to get their other items. read more

Just saw Shake Shack's TV commercial! They need to spend less on TV ads and put that money into a bigger burger for the same prices they're charging! Shake Shack's burgers here are way overpriced and possibly a victim of shrinkflation! Haven't been to a Shake Shack in years, but truly disappointed compared to my past experience! To be transparent, after they started to expand locations beyond Madison Square Park, I was drawn to their shakes... but now I do ice cream and shakes only on limited special occasions. Later, whenever I did dine at a Shake Shack, I typically opted for their 'Shroom burgers. A few weekends ago, had been heading to K-town for a bite, but signage in the window of this Midtown East location announcing their new Korean menu sparked my interest. Dropped in to it check out. At the digital order kiosk, a poster referenced Umami "Rich + Bold" and there was the image of the Korean BBQ burger, which looked like a large patty with a stack of toppings. (See pic of green background image.) The kiosk menu identified the ingredients as: "100% Angus beef cheeseburger topped with crispy sweet onions, fresh scallions, and a savory Korean BBQ sauce on a toasted potato bun." Price - $9.79, with tax $10.66. That's a sizable price for a burger, but I thought from their advertised image it could be worth it. What a letdown! When my burger arrived all I could think of was, "Where's the beef?"!!! (See pic of what I got.) There were a visible supply of onion crisps, scallions, etc., but the size of the meat was one notch bigger than a slider and definitely not a burger that should be sold for almost $10 excluding tax. While it was tasty, this burger was ridiculously small and slim leaving me feeling ripped off! Perhaps Shake Shack has enough foot traffic from out-of-town tourists and weekday neighborhood office workers who are indifferent, but I know there are more than enough other options nearby. My reco for you is check out other places - there are both great burgers elsewhere for competitive prices or delicious authentic Korean more filling for what you'd spend at Shake Shack. (I'm generously giving it 3 stars only because it was tasty, but I definitely was tempted to reduce that to 2 stars for feeling taken advantage of value-wise! There was nothing compelling to ever draw me back to Shake Shack! After this experience, the only time I'll go to a Shake Shack is out of necessity.) read more

I don't know where they found the Sunday night crew at this shake shack but they really made my day. I accidentally just placed an order very close to closing time, so when I walked in I was mortified that I would be a burden but everyone was still really sweet! Donovan was tasked with giving me my order, and when I saw my cheese fries weren't as cheesy as my gluttonous self likes them to be, I asked for more not knowing it would be a whole process involving bain-maries and spatulas and pumps and he gave me my cheese with no complaints and made me feel very welcome even though I was probably a super annoying customer. I couldn't have nicer things to say about Donovan and the rest of this crew, so I really hope someone makes their day the way they made mine very very soon! read more

This Shake Shack is perfect! The lettuce wrapped burger was wrapped so nothing dropped out the bottom. The burger was medium with no char to it. Avocado was fresh and bacon was crispy. I am among Shake Shack's many devoted fans. Elevated fast food made by hand, great concept! I generally go for a single shack burger and fries, love the tender juicy beef w/melty cheese and crunchy crinkle cut spuds. Usually opt for a brewed unsweetened ice tea , but when I want to treat myself their vanilla and chocolate shake is soo darned good! On my latest visit I was hangry so went for a double shack burger. Double the protein, good value and not overly humongous either. Would def get that again. Although Shake Shack's food is generally the same everywhere, I like the East 40th St. store due to their friendly service, clean environment and convenient location (for me). It's a smallish space with limited seating but there's an adjacent public space for al fresco dining when the weather is right. I keep hearing about their superb truffle burgers/fries....maybe I'll break out of my comfort zone and try those next time. read more

I love Shake Shack and this is a frequent work lunch spot for me. I typically order on the Shake Shack mobile app because there can sometimes be a line which doubles your wait time; whereas, with the app they'll give you a heads up on when your order will be ready so you can be in and out in a jiffy. There is a public space with tables next door so when it's nice outside, its a great area to enjoy your meal. There isn't a large amount of indoor seating so I always take my food to go. They have mobile kiosks that you can order on or you can order at the register as well. Every May they have a $2 buy shake coupon which is a donation to No Kid Hungry and then later on entitles you to a free shake - it's a no-brainer promotion that I look forward to every year. Their shakes are pretty decadent so I don't get them all the time. Typically I'll order a single shack burger with fries or replace the shack burger with their chicken sandwich. Both are very tasty! I'm in shake shack. The bill is $21.20. I give the cashier a $20 bill and 2 singles. It took 2 people to figure out how much change I should get. They used a calculator and then gave me 3 quarters, a dime and 3 pennies. I explained that they gave me too much. They were very confused. I explained that the 3 quarters = 75 cents and after giving them back the dime and 3 pennies told them they owed me a nickel. They looked at the quarters carefully and then gave me a nickel. The food is exceptional. The double hamburger is phenomenal made just like it came from mama's kitchen. The bun is delicious the tomatoes and lettuce fresh as ever on the side area. As a Canadian, I have heard great things about Shake Shack, and I just had to try out this burger place when I visited New York! We ordered the shack burger, cheese fries, and the orange creamsicle float. The burger is so tender and juicy that every bite had me in awe and appreciative for this fast food restaurant. I wanted to grab something near work and decided on Shake Shack. I saw they now have black truffle Parmesan fries, which sounded great and ordered a burger and the truffle fries. The truffle smudge comes in a small container and from the first bite, I felt I was having the sauce in a high end restaurant. I put some on the Parmesan coated fries and on the burger and it elevated my whole meal to another degree. I could hear myself saying, time to buy stick in Shake Shack. I totally get it. They're just too busy and constantly in a hurry to get the line going, which is understandable. However, Marcus was excellent with me. This Murray Hill location on 40th/3rd is by far my favorite Shake Shack! And when a few out-of-town friends came to visit, I got some burgers for takeout to add to our menu - because you can trust this location for their consistency 1000%. They have the best Chick'n Shack here, while other locations were too salty or batter not crispy enough. Their chicken sandwiches are made perfectly every time. Still love the pickles and tangy herb buttermilk mayo as much as the first day. No need to reiterate that Shack Burgers are always crowd-pleasers, as is their Shroom Burgers, with gooey muenster cheese encased in a crunchy fried portobello exterior. They also offer catering which is probably the way to go for larger orders in the future. We fell in love with Shake Shack in 2009! We had to try it all! Burgers, Chicago style hot dogs, shakes.... They have never failed to deliver! The quality is always good but we would recommend to get your burgers well done - otherwise you may get some very very rare (not blue but as close to that as you want to get - we usually eat our filet mignon and NY strip steaks rare or medium rare depending on the location). My first experience at Shake Shack from my time in NYC is sadly the last branch I got round to reviewing, but I was really impressed by their store at 600 3rd Ave and rank it amongst one of their best locations in New York, probably alongside their Innovation Center branch for the overall experience, and the World Trade Centre location for service. I did find the store a little hard to get into at first as the enterance wasn't well posted, I ended up going around the store two or three times before noticing the main enterance as I recall there were steps at the other enterance, but this isn't the main way to get in anyway. I ordered a Gluten Free Shackburger - the gluten-free bun was actually pretty good, and I did enjoy my burger too, the meat tasted good and was well seasoned and most of the toppings tasted good quality, so I did enjoy my burger. It was a shame I couldn't have the fries as I could at Five Guys or McDonald's for example but this is a problem with Shake Shack nationally - on the plus side they do offer a good-tasting gluten-free bun while Five Guys and McDonald's can only offer a lettuce wrap, so Shake Shack is well ahead on that front. The staff seemed really friendly here and didn't mind helping me out by getting me some napkins and bringing my food over when it was ready. I do feel the branch could have more seating as even though it didn't seem too busy, there didn't seem to be enough space with some people standing up and eating at one of the bars which I presume is to separate people queuing? Despite a few minor flaws, this really is a pretty good Shake Shack store, and I was pleased to have it within a short walk of the Millenium Hilton New York UN Plaza, where I stayed during my time in the city. 4* read more
