Look, the food is delicious. Quality burgers, hot dogs and chicken sandwiches. I am a big fan of their cheese fries. Their shakes are good though as a long time Shake Shack fan, I miss their custard rotation. The service can be spotty. My advice is to download the app and order ahead. Works like a charm most times. I was here on a busy Friday afternoon, and was pleasantly surprised that my order did not take long at all. They were generous with the toppings I requested (onions and lettuce). I like the dining area since there are many seating options available and television for entertainment. The customer service was spectacular during this visit as well. The servers were friendly and tables were cleared off right away for the next customer. This was my first time eating Shake Shack. The décor is nice, though the entry is not accommodating to the long-lines this place will see in the near future (baseball season starting soon?). The menu is short and sweet, and apparently they sell dog treats and try to save the planet through a partnership with Casey Trees. I was worried about the Five Guys around the corner sensing my disloyalty, so I ordered a chicken sandwich and a mango lemonade. $10! Wait, what?! $10 even. Well, I do like even numbers, but that seems a wee bit pricey. This sandwich better be good. The sandwich was good. Ingredients were fresh, pickle slices weren't paper-thin and actually crunched when I bit into them. The mango lemonade was well-balanced, sweet-and-tart. I liked it. Will I be back? The food is fantastic. Had the smoke burger with bacon and peppers. I'm a big fan of the food and drinks and really the entire menu. However, why do people have to go to the counter to get refills? Put a soda fountain out where people can get to it if your workers are going to ignore customers and play on their phones or look right at customers waiting and go about their business as though they didn't just see the customer waiting on them. The service wasn't even subpar...it was absolutely terrible. I'm not saying your employees are racist, but I'm sure not ruling it out. They definitely serve black people much faster. The nice black gentleman standing right next to me was helped almost immediately while I got the brush off even when I asked politely if I could get a refill. Even then your employee decided she's take an order for a lady who just walked in rather than get me a refill after I'd been waiting on someone for over 5 minutes. I'm not saying your staff is racist, but you might want to have a chat with them on that topic. I will not be back. The food doesn't make up for the terrible service. read more

My initial reaction was that the food was good, but not as filling as expected. Everything is a la carte, the burger doesn't come with a drink or fries. A dinner for two came out to be $34 and we got the basic things. For desert, I got the brownie shake and it was again not worth the cost. Food was solid, but nothing mind blowing. I guess the cult following I've heard had me drinking the kool-aid. So I started with the signature Shake Shack burger. It was very salty and greasy. There was nothing that made it special to me. The special sauce did nothing to accent the flavor. Very disappointing to say the least. When I was in line the s'mores concrete caught my eye. Well it can't be the burgers that keeps the buzz up. Went back in line and ordered the concrete. After 15 mins of watching employees feeding their co-workers I finally asked were my ice cream was? Oh did you order the s'mores concrete? Yes I did and it's been 15 mins. We don't "got da stuff" to make that here. Back to the register for 10 mins for them to figure out how to give me a refund. After two years of being home and not coming to the office, I was really excited about my first day back and being able to have a shake shack burger since I haven't had one since I last left. The ordering experience was great the cashier that took my order today at about 2:30 in the afternoon was very pleasant very outgoing and very professional. After waiting almost 15 minutes for my burger I decided to look and see what was going on in the back. I saw two people next to the ice cream machine who were just talking and having a good old time. After looking a little bit I noticed that my burger and my milkshake were sitting at the expediter station ready to go out. The female with the red bun on top of her head continue to have a conversation and then decided to mix another milkshake up. Mind you my order was still waiting. After she finished that milkshake, she began to do another milkshake. A little frustrated, I asked excuse me, what's going on with my order. The guy that she was talking to came up and said it'll be ready when it's ready. I couldn't believe the answer. After a little bit more, a young lady came by and asked me if everything was OK. I let her know that my burger and shake were sitting at the expediter station for the past 10 minutes, and nobody is bringing it out. She went to the back to look and ask the girl with the red bun on her top of her head what was going on. After some going back-and-forth and still taking their time they finally decided to put my burger and a milkshake on the tray. The girl with the red bun on her head brought me the tray and said here you go. I looked at her and I said that she couldn't be any slower. To which she responded it's not my problem it's not my fault, whatever. When I said it was waiting there for 10 to 15 minute she said whatever whatever get out of here. Just ruined my meal and made me never want to come back to this location again. It shows that the staff and training has gone downhill. This individual should have no contact with customers whatsoever. Her demeanor is offensive aggressive and non-customer service like. Shake shack is good not amazing. Decent value. Limited menu. Burgers aren't big but still filling. Fries are crinkle cut, nothing special. The cheese fries is just cheese sauce, very messy and lacking flavor. Atmosphere is nice, usually low key. Depending on the time and location it can be really busy and loud. The food usually is pretty fast. It's good in a pinch but other better casual burger places. Def not worth the hype. read more

I sometimes stop here just to grab a milk shake versus a burger and fries. Although I love the burger and fries. When ordering the float it gets pretty messy. I'm not sure that they've perfected making a float to go. I spent my entire trip home trying not to get grape soda and ice cream from the float on the seats and floor of my car. I have been to a a couple of the other Shake Shack locations in DC but this was my first time at the Navy Yard location. My friends and I had just left the DC Beer Fest at Nats Park and they had been planning to get Shake Shack for some time. We were pleasantly surprised to find this location since we thought the only location in this neighborhood was in the ballpark itself. It wasn't too busy since we left the event a little bit early but the line was backed up towards the end of our meal. I was able to put in my order for a Shack Stack and Crinkle Cut Fries quickly and we even found a table. The kitchen was fairly prompt but perception can be skewed when you had been drinking. When I took that first bite, it was pretty amazing. I had always been one to not know what the craze for Shake Shack was but at that moment, I realized why people like their burgers so much. My fries were also on point in terms of freshness and crisp. Whether or not I come around remains to be seen but that was as pleasant as an experience as one could hope after an evening of alcohol. read more

I came in here for some dinner last night on the way back from the Christmas Market near the Gallery Place/Chinatown Metro station. The place was mobbed since there was a Capitals game going on, but the lines moved along quickly. The only problem is that I had to eat standing up since there was nowhere to sit. I ordered a single Shack burger (a cheeseburger) and a peppermint chocolate shake, which came out to about $12. The food was good, much better than McDonald's and for not much more, either. The service was quick and friendly, and the facilities were clean and well maintained. The decor was very trendy for a burger place. No complaints. read more

Came back after receiving an email from the manager. I had the cheeseburger and fries. DEFINITELY different from my first encounter. The guy at the counter had impeccable customer service, waited about 6 minutes for my food which was HOT and FRESH. The burger was cooked perfect seasoned well, and the cheese was nicely melted. I arrived last Friday around 5 pm, right before my 6 pm meet up for the 7 pm Nats game. I was surprisingly blown away. When I walked in, I was immediately pleasantly greeted by a friendly, patient and attentive cashier. I stood a few feet from the cashier, wanting to be sure I got my modifications right while keeping everything else (Shackburger, add bacon, onion and pickle), fries and a bottled water.
