I recently ordered a ShackBurger with bacon at the kiosk and had a work emergency come up before my food was ready, so I had to leave without picking it up. That part was on me, and I've never suggested otherwise. I came back about an hour later. The team member recognized me and acknowledged that I had been in earlier and had left without my order. What surprised me is that there was no gesture at all -- no offer to remake it, no partial credit, and no move to bring a manager into the conversation. I paid for food I never received, the store knew it, and the response was to simply ring me up again. A quick "let me check with my manager" would have gone a long way. On the second visit, the wait was long and the burger came out fresh and hot, but the fries were cold. On a busy line with that kind of wait time, cold fries suggest they were dropped early and held rather than fired to the order. That's a process issue worth flagging to the store leadership. I'm not looking to make a big deal out of this. I'd appreciate a credit for the original order I paid for and never received, and I'd like the feedback about the fries and the missed service recovery passed along to the Navy Yard management team. This seems to be a standard Shake Shack but the staff was really friendly and polite. They greeted us as we walked in and when we picked up our food the lady was super nice... wish I got her name for a shout out. Definitely recommend the Shack Stack (burger with cheese stuffed mushroom). Be careful though because there's a lot of cheese with every bite. Nice spot for a group and the bathroom are clean. For example, if you only want a shake or a fountain soda your order will still be in a queue of all orders placed for pick-up, delivery and for dine-in. So if you arrive and there isn't much of a line, it's still probably good to be mindful that the lack of crowd may not be indicative of the wait time. When I placed an order here today, not only was it a 25 minute wait for a cheeseburger and fries, but they slathered tons of Shake Shack sauce all over the burger despite indicating via the kiosk options that I would like it on the side. Since it took so long to get the order and all workers seemed to be designated to kitchen duties, I felt like I was going to fare better just wiping everything off. Luckily, it wasn't an issue where there were any allergies but considering that was the only customization it was clear that attention to detail wasn't great. I've heard a lot about Shake Shack over the years and finally gave them a try since this location was close to a work event. Actually, it was two tries. In a word...meh. I wouldn't avoid Shake Shack but wouldn't go out my way to visit based on my experiences. On Visit 1, I tried the chicken bites, crinkle fries, and a vanilla shake since it's Shake Shack. The shake was darn good as expected. The chicken bites were fine, but very inconsistent sizes. Most were much smaller than similar offerings at competitor locations. The fries were decent but not noteworthy. Visit 2 was a bacon cheeseburger, fries again, and a fountain drink. The burger was a disappointment, very average patty and bun. I appreciated the ordering kiosks and folks behind the counter were happy to engage. My food came out quickly and hot. Perhaps I had listened to too much hype but I wasn't impressed by my visits (except tge shake) considering the price point Both meals were over $20 (with a 15% tip). After ice cream at the Kilwins did not work out since it was huge ice chunks, I got as close as I could to ice cream with a cookies and cream shake around the Dr John cornder. A shake makes up half of the bidness's name, and I was not in the market for a dilapidated shanty, so it seemed like a good move since most shake shack locations are solid. There was a long line for a tablet to order at, since they had no humans who could take an order. There were a lot of people waiting for their order. I joined the large crowd of people waiting for their order. Service was very slow for a shake, it is not like they needed to go out back and kill something to make the shake, since there should have been no meat in the old gal. When my shake came out 20 minutes later it was warm. Shakes are not supposed to come out warm, unless you are in Tina Belcher's Hell-Jail. I suspect they never called up my number when it was first made despite me standing right there in front of the pick up zone. Or this store really does not know how to make shakes. A warm shake is undrinkable. I should have saved the huge ice chunks from Kilwins ice cream and then I could have combined the failures of two places into a gross abomination of flavours that was still not the correct temperature for a tasty treat right before heading into the Nats stadium. Navy Yard basically seems like a giant tourist trap (they snared me, obviously) and the low quality of even somewhat respectable chains like the shack proves it. Do better. read more

We regularly eat at this location and have overall had a decent experience dining in and taking out. The knock off on the stars has to do with a few times where we had to wait 10 min for an online order. I couldn't even get the attention of the staff to pick up, because they were so busy making the food. It's usually understaffed so I feel bad for the workers. Today was different though - I was only 1 of 3 customers in the restaurant when I came in to pick out up. The staff was great! They greeted me and were helpful with verifying my order. The other star knock off is for the grilled cheese sandwich that was literally a half sandwich that was slightly burnt; it was smaller than my hand. For $6, I'd expect a lot more. I'm bummed they no longer offer the fried avocado sandwich! We'll probably return but stick with our usual sandwiches. read more

Overall, it feels like you're paying for branding and vibes instead of flavor. If you're hungry, you'll eat it. If you're expecting magic, lower your expectations... a lot. I haven't been to a Shake Shack in a while so stopped in to try the seasonal black truffle mushroom burger. It was delicious. I also had forgotten how awesome the crinkle fries are. Ordering was super easy from the kiosk and the orders came out quickly. The employees we met were really nice. The customer behind us at the kiosk was a first time visitor and they patiently walked him through all of the burger options. The reason I hadn't been to a Shake Shack in a while is because the one closest to where we live is Dupont Circle and it is always super busy and it's small. I had a great experience at Shake Shack today! I placed my order when I arrived (there were 2 stations) and my food was ready in under 10 mins! The fries were fresh and crispy with just a tad too much salt but I was able to just shake some off. I was pleasantly surprised that my burger wasn't over cooked and still juicy. Avocado and all the ingredients were also fresh. The draft root beer was good, loved having that as an option instead of regular fountain soda. Almost fifteen dollars for ten not-so-big chicken bites and one drink. The craft beer selection could be better as well. It's cherry blossom season and the other day I went to a festival where there was a different Shake Shack location. Since it was uber busy, I shouldn't have been surprised that the Cherry Blossom Shake was sold out. Since then, that created a void I needed to fill and planned to make it to another Shake Shack another day to get the shake. Here comes today when I walked to this location only to find that the Cherry Blossom Shake was no longer being sold. Devastating. Instead what they were selling was the Game of Thrones Dragonglass Shake that is served in a plastic cup specifically designed for Shake sShack and GoT. Season 8 of GoT just released yesterday so it was fitting. The shake was good, but I probably won't get it again just because they're super packed with calories. I'm a huge fan of Shake Shack so when Wise Guys were out of slices for the day, my friends and I went over to Shake Shack (naturally). This was my first visit to this particular location. With the lockdown and shelter-in-place orders, we didn't know what to expect. When we arrived, we found a lot of signs plastered all over the store windows but none of them gave instructions on how to place an order. We saw staff inside so we knew the store was opened. We eventually found a set of doors that were unlocked so we stepped inside. As we went to the cash register, a lady hurried over and started yelling in my face to step back outside. I stopped in my tracks and explained that the door was unlocked and we didn't know where to go because there were no signs. Instead of explaining the lineup/ordering system, she continued to yell at me about ignoring the rope outside. As we stepped back outside, we found new arrivals who were just as confused about where to order. After we placed our orders (a second lady took our order, not the rude one), we theorized that the second lady who was taking orders at the door had stepped away. Instead of putting a sign up indicating where the line starts, she had left the door unattended. This was the first time I've felt shaken up (pun unintended) and even a little embarrassed because someone at a fast food joint yelled at me. I understand how stressful the pandemic and physical distancing orders are, but I don't think that's the way a fast food restaurant should be treating its customers especially during these times. read more

I've come here quite a few times as it's the closest place to get a milkshake. This location is OK on service, although sometimes your wait time can be super lengthy, even if you placed a mobile order. If it is a Nats game day, the line WILL be long and it will be loud, so just be prepared for that when the Nats are in season. The burgers are standard Shake Shack burgers. I've generally always found them to be a little greasy, and I agree with others that they are smaller than they could be. The fries are pretty bland crinkle-cut, and the "cheese" on the cheese fries seems to be something from a concession stand. The shakes are good, though--as long as they aren't out of ice cream and shakes, like they were tonight. Yes, I said I went to Shake Shack and they said they were out of shakes. What is the world coming to? Anyway, they keep it pretty clean inside, which is nice, especially given that this location gets a lot of traffic.
