She had never been (?!) and she wanted a burger. And... I got my ooey gooey 'Shroom burger! There was barely a wait in line. My burger was $7-something, but so worth it! I think they are cheaper here than at Nats Park. It was everything I craved and more: portobellos, hot melted cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and a spicy sauce. I can get my special burger in the MD 'burbs now, which is a lot (underscore) easier to get to for me, but when I'm at The Wharf, this will be my go-to lunch spot. read more

This is only my second time eating SS. The first time was about 10 years ago when one first opened in midtown NYC. I've not been back since, but decided to give it a try. Only this time, I decided on a chicken sandwich. I was dismayed to learn that a burger place only has American cheese.... I've never heard of such. We aren't making lunchables here. Anyway. My boyfriend decided to get cheese fries. Being the cheese snob that I am... I was further dismayed to learn that the fries were covered in a weird cheese wiz. The chicken sandwich was pretty darn good, so I'll give them that. I was pretty alarmed by some of the staff members. To me, appearance is important to an extent. Many of the staff members looked a little sloppy and dirty. I know burger making is a dirty business, but outside of that, some of the others just appears unkept. One staff had some sort of brown stains on her jeans that was a little unsettling. I expect a little more pride in appearance in any food establishment. In sum, I probably will check out some of the other eateries on the Wharf! read more

This Shake Shack is located in a newer and expensive area of Washington, D.C. so keep that in mind when looking for parking and the prices of everything else in the area. That also means when it's nice outside, this location might get real busy since there's tons of foot traffic daily. Albeit, since Shake Shack is a fast food joint, this may be a good option when everywhere else is super crowded and you're looking for something relatively quick but delicious. I always love how Shake Shack does seasonal shakes so I recommend always getting one when you visit! It goes well with that Shake Shack potato roll bun! read more

If you find yourself at the multi-million dollar District Wharf and overwhelmed by the $30+ entrees everywhere else, stumble into Shake Shack. It's one of the cheapest dinners at the District Wharf. A sandwich for under $7 and fries for under $4 (Yep, still DC prices but cheaper than Requin around the corner). Shake Shack is the latest burger craze and the atmosphere is nice. They have trendy looking signs (is that a thing?) and enough booths and wooden tables to seat an army. Their condiment section is on point and even serve craft beer ON TAP! However, I still don't understand the craze with the food. Contrary to my personality, I've ordered all the different burgers and still I think they lack flavor. My recent order was the hot chicken sandwich and still I felt like I was eating slightly flavored air, not a spicy chicken sandwich. Same with the fries. They are curly fries and lack salt and flavor. I always take the mayo packets and coat each individual fry and still it just tastes like mayo and not fries with a little bit of mayo. If you're at the Wharf and need a cheap dinner, go here. If you have access to transportation, venture into Navy Yard or Capitol Hill for more local restaurants that are affordable and cook with flavor. read more

Well the shake shack has been around for a while in the dmv and I have only just passed by them on my way to something else but today I was in the mood for a burger. I was at the dc wharf so I thought why not? The line was incredibly long but it went fast. The person taking me order was efficient. They did not have enough seating for the crowds even with upstairs and patio seating. As for the food I had the one patty cheeseburger, cheese fries and bottled water. The patty was delicious I didn't have to add anything to it. I did eat it relatively fast. I was kinda full after my meal but I think that was mainly due to the fries not the burger.I probably should have gotten two patties but I don't like that much meat in one sandwich. I recommend if you have a decent appetite get two sandwiches or the two patties sandwich. The cheese fries came with just plain fries and a container of cheese so you can add your own the way you like it. That was wise, it's less mess and not every one like a whole lot of cheese. The price was reasonable but higher than McDonald's and five guys of course. Hey I'll be back for sure. read more

The food tastes delicious, consistent with all the other Shake Shack locations. A LOT of people can come through, so some spots in the dining area look a bit oily/dirty. Getting in is a bit weird because one door is an exit and not an entrance, and to get to that entrance, you have to walk around the store and then up an awkwardly long ramp. Service is quick, and your order will be ready within 10 minutes. I ordered online twice in the same day, selecting the checkbox for napkins + ketchup and got a different experience each time. One time, I didn't get them and asked for them and was told to get the ketchup and napkins myself at the condiment station. The other time, it was provided where there was only one ketchup packet in my bag. I'm not a huge ketchup lover, but one packet is not enough for a burger. As amazing the Shack Shack sauce can be. I like this Shake Shack better than the one at Penn Quarter. It has more seating (go upstairs if there's no room downstairs) inside and outside the store. We were visiting the Wharf on New Year's Day and we lucked out that this place was open and there was no line. It was around 11:30 am and I managed to get a 6 person booth and high top seating for our group of 10. They do have outside seating but it was just too cold to sit outdoors. I had the Double Smoke Shack with Cheese and Bacon and I really liked it. The beef was very juicy and had a nice beefy flavor. I also had fries and a Strawberry Banana Crunch Concrete which were both shared with the hubby. The fries were crispy, but not very interesting to me. The concrete on the other hand was great. I've had the S'more concrete before, and the Strawberry one is definitely yummier. Hope they have that next time I'm in DC. They had some yummy looking special holiday shakes like White Mocha, Chocolate Peppermint and Christmas Cookie, but I didn't have a Lactaid pill with me so I couldn't have it. One of my brothers in law did and he thoroughly enjoyed his Christmas Cookie. I almost never order a sugary drink (welll, except for cocktails), but I decided to get their Blood Orange Lemonade. I love Blood Orange anything so I really enjoyed this indulgence. :) Service was great and would totally eat here again next time I'm at the Wharf. I came here in a hurry to get something small for my toddler to eat. She has a dairy allergy and can't have anything with milk. I informed the cashier of her allergy and asked him if the chicken bites had dairy or milk and he quickly said no they don't it's just chicken. So I got those for her and fries. While waiting for my food, I decided to check if they had an allergy menu. I should've done this before ordering but I was in a hurry, my hands were frozen because I had just picked up seafood and it was like 20 degrees out, and a lot of places don't have an allergy menu so I was assuming the employee would be more trustworthy than a google search. Wrong. They luckily did have an allergy menu and the chicken bites do have dairy. Ugh. I cancelled my order and asked for a refund because she obviously can't eat them. They apologized and told me I'll be getting the money back on my card. However it's been over 2 weeks and nothing. I'm not so much worried about the $10, but people really shouldn't be so careless when it comes to allergies because there are people that might be deathly allergic. Our family loves burgers and we tried this place during our trip to the Spy Museum which was a short walk. We've never eaten in a restaurant during Covid and we were looking for a place where we could get takeout to eat along the wharf which has plenty of public eating tables. I had a breaded porcini mushroom burger since I'm going on two plus years as being a vegetarian. The burger was awesome especially with the sauce that was embedded in. Size was a bit on the small size. Crinkle cut fries are not my favorite and they only had one size but they were surprisingly good. I had a lemonade which was also good. Getting our food took about 30 minutes and we used an app to order but the app didn't text me though luckily I noticed that the status was complete at some point. Very unclear where to pickup online orders in the store, waited in line until I spun around and saw a shelf with orders on it. Read some other reviews about the staff and I'm glad I didn't have to interact b/c I could tell from afar that they were not happy campers. I also should mention that our order was missing one fries, which is OK with a family but if it was a bunch of friends, it would mean that one person would be short a meal. read more

I'm trying to figure out what the appeal is with this establishment. I went here after work on a Friday evening and it wasn't packed, possibly due to the hot weather, but we were able to walk directly up to the register, order and sit-down and wait for our food. I ordered the Shack Burger and Fries. My burger was just okay, it lacked flavor and I've had much better for more reasonable prices. My fries were rather tasty; crinkle cut and the reason I gave SS two stars. Well that, and the extremely friendly young man with glasses collecting trays and disposing of the trash. While we were eating, one of the employees kept walking back and forth eating behind the counter and the dinning area while customers were ordering and picking up their orders. Is their not a break room? I assume not, because a little while later another employee enters with Chick-fil-A bags in her hand for her and another employee. They proceeded to eat their food directly in front of the big glass window inside the restaurant. So if the employees don't want to eat the food that they're serving, why would the customers? Not sure why it seems to be a zillion employees behind the counter and only one register open, but it looked chaotic. I have no plans on returning, not even for their famous shakes. Maybe I'll just pay Chick-fil-A a visit next time, it apparently comes highly recommended by the staff. read more

Terrible expediting. Ordered pickup, due to Covid door is locked, no sign or employee clarifying what the system is. Corporate had emailed texted whatnot multiple times immediately after order was placed, zero info on pickup procedure, just boilerplate corporate email order confirmation. So, apparently the procedure is; wait outside a locked door with multiple other customers with no information for 10-15 minutes while your food gets cold on a shelf. Then, in my case, get more impatient and slip in when someone leaves while trying to explain to the suckers waiting to actually eat or still order that I'm not cutting. Their burgers never fail to satisfy your meat craving the fries was ok..but the restroom here is nasty! I was surprised that the restroom door has locks that only customers can have the code but the interior was kinda disappointing. :( This is also near the fishing area and the fish market. Yelpers... why did y'all tell me about Shake Shack before??? I've never been a fan of burgers because I've only ever tried burgers from McDonald's and Burger king and needless to say... those sloppy messes don't deserve to be called Burgers. This was my first experience at Shake Shack and I guarantee you that there will be more. I ordered the Smoke n Shack and it was the most juicy, spicy, sexy burger I've ever had! The Burger bun was so soft and yummy. The bacon was crispy and salty and smoky and the red peppers and cheese added just the right amount of sweet and spicy kick that I needed.
