The toast (I opted for rye) was warm and not dry. We also tried the buttermilk pancakes (3 per order) which were tasty and moist. My husband had the mexican breakfast wrap which had great spice from the jalapenos. It is expensive for a diner, but that is the case with all diners in Manhattan. She had the yogurt and fruit and granola, a huge bowl with lots of beautiful fruit around it; I saw that and I was sorry I didn't get it! I had 2 eggs, toast home fries, usual diner fare. Usually people figure out the good places and tend to write good reviews. This one is shocking to me. Allow me to start at the beginning. I work about a block away but between Park and Madison. I thought my options were the Madison Ave ones (there's very little on Park itself other than food trucks and Pret)... One day I finally got tired of those and ventured towards Lex, and I noticed every construction worker hanging around this tiny deli next to a barber shop. If you know nothing else, you should know that construction guys always know where the best bang for the buck is. When you walk in it looks like any other deli (and their deli stuff is solid indeed) but there's a corner with rice and beans, pasta, and few latino dishes - these are the real gems! Depending on the day you may find some version of Carne Guisada (potato or not)... Pollo al Horno, usually some cooked fish dish, etc etc. You pick your base (rice/beans or pasta) and top it with one of the above. And then they pass your plate over to the condiment station. The food is great but this is what puts it over the top! Condiment station has Salad, Pico de Gallo, Salsa verde (thick and heavy, like a runny guac), and Salsa Rioja that will make your scalp sweat (I kid you not, I can handle heat but this red sauce is quite something). Back to the deli side - for a while I was getting the crispy chicken cutlet - delicious and fresh, as a wrap. One day I tried the above "Spanish" food section and never looked back. So I thought I had this secret, and then I kept noticing more and more of the same silver trays at the office. And when I asked everyone would say "the place with the construction guys". He won't take credit cards (but has an ATM Machine there) - and he INSISTS on giving you a banana even if you don't want one... But MAN - the food here is knockout. One day I thought there was some chicken cutlet, I asked the guy serving the hot food in the corner and he said "it's Fried Fish" - and before I could even say anything he breaks me off a small piece. I WAS HOOKED!!! Bad. At least once a week I get this combo of Fried Fish with guac, green sauce, and red sauce over a bed of rice and beans. For $10 (I'm pretty sure he charges the construction workers less :) - this blows away a lot of the lunches you can get around here. And then it hit me. Rents are cheaper as we you get further east of 5th Ave... everything just made more sense. This is one of the best deals in midtown.

I recommend the pork chops and baked chicken though - the fried pork belly while tasty was a tad tough. The servings are enough for two meals. Highly recommend if you are in the area and want a good reasonably priced hot meal.

We didn't want to escalate the situation, so we just left. This isn't how patrons should be treated. $26 on subpar fries and a prickly waiter? Don't waste your money.
