    Bar

Whether you want to watch your games indoors, outdoors (covered patio), or way outdoors as close to Home & Away's huge *ss tv as possible (in which case bring a hat!) this place offers a variety of seating options for your viewing pleasure. The Nachos (Fresh Chips, Chicken or Pork, Cotija Cheese, Peruvian Beans, House-made H&A Salsa Verde, Sour Cream, Onions and Cilantro) are nearly as ginormous as the aforementioned screen, and well worth ordering. Speaking of ordering, you'll need to do so (and pick up) inside at the bar, but it'd be nice if there were also a table service option, particularly if you're sitting outside!

    So weird.

Stopped in for a playoff game this Sunday and had a great time! What a great find!! So here we go... ADD 1 STAR Parking on Sunday was great! Plenty of street parking even for a 1pm game start! Unlike places like Gaslamp, PB, Hillcrest I was pleasantly surprised! ADD 1 STAR Great outdoor seating area both covered and also out in the sun. Huge outdoor screen for the game too. Plenty of other tvs around the bar! ADD 1 STAR Plenty of water stations to help keep you hydrated! Even dog bowls for your 4 legged friends! ADD 1 STAR Staff were friendly and welcoming and always came around to clear our table. My only issue was the food. I was so disappointed in the smash burger. What's up with smashing the bun into a hard pancake both top and bottom bun? I've had better tasting smash burgers but I can get a better one at Jack in the Box and for $10 cheaper. It was so underwhelming I didn't even want to take a picture. The tator tots were awesome! Perfect crunch and spice....so flavorful! The women's bathroom is a little strange and quite frankly a waste. Two toilets set up side by side like how urinals are. This only works if 2 close friends are in there. They could easily make this 2 stalls and keep lines to a minimum. So 2 toilets but really just 1 women's bathroom.

Came here for a going-away dinner for work. There's plenty of outdoor seating, which is always a plus in San Diego. Parking is pretty rough, but it's Old Town--pick your battles. The food was decent, a slight upgrade from your typical bar food, but nothing that really stands out or makes you want to come back just for the menu. The drink selection is great, though, and the service has always been solid. Lots of large TVs make it an easy spot to catch games and hang out with a group.

    Weird chicken strips

Good beer but food is just ok. I'm a little thrown off by the chicken strips, which are a bar staple and should not be that hard. At least get these right if you're going to put them in your menu. I can't tell if they are burnet or just a weird batter recipe...but I won't order then again. I remember the fries being really good but today, just ok. Don't go out of your way to eat here. But nice atmosphere and a good local beer selection.

Went for the World Cup finals game, the vibes were immaculate and for how busy it was the workers did a great job with getting everyone their food and drinks. They had a lot of TVs so anywhere you looked you could catch the game. I am giving it a four stars because when it's really busy, it's really important to stay on top of restroom checks which was a bit lacking and having a couple more umbrellas on the patio would be really nice.

    Ceviche

This is our second time here and last. I ordered ceviche and this is what they serve. I realize it's a bar but this is far from what I would consider ceviche or worth $17.00. In a separate order, some of the fries were overcooked and some were undercooked. Just stick to burgers here

The food here was really good i could'nt even finish it i got full before it was finished, they have a bar for you to have drinks if you want to get a couple drinks. Seating is on your own so you walk in pick a seat and then order your food up at the bar. Recommend trying if you're looking for somewhere nice to sit and eat

Great place to come have a beer, bar food and enjoy your favorite game while enjoying San Diego's perfect weather! This place has a fantastic patio with tvs and a large screen. The atmosphere is alive with happy people together with a common goal: a good time

Large sports bar with a smaller indoor section and a much larger outdoor area that includes a huge TV. This is a popular hangout for good reason and is packed during NFL games. Tried the nachos and they are enormous and loaded. Efficient service set up: Place your orders at the bar and grab a number for delivery to your table.

While visiting family in the area, we all went to Home & Away for Taco Tuesday. This place is one of my brother in law's favorites. There's a nice outside seating area and pretty good bar food here. You order at the bar, find a seat and they bring your food. I had the Carne Asada tacos, my wife had a shrimp and a pork taco and my daughter had chicken tacos. These were reasonably priced at $3.50 for each taco. The place was jumping with lots of people there and the NBA playoffs on the TVs. Looks to be a good watering hole not too far from the airport. I will return here one day.

    Halloween Party

So grateful to Home & Away and their team for helping us make this Halloween Themed Going Away Party possible! Everyone had such a good time and couldn't stop speaking about the space of the venue and the convenience of being so close to our place of employment. People were able to stop by after work and enjoy the festivities. We chose home & away so guests could park in our employee lot and catch a ride to the bar as parking is tight. It's mainly just street parking. Home & Away allowed us to rent out the patio and decorate and even have a mariachi band play. They provided a taco bar for us that was delicious ! And the cost of this whole event, venue space & food was so reasonable. To the bar manager that helped us set up and help us get batteries last minute, thank you so much!

One of my favorite sports bars to watch games at. There's plenty of street parking and they have a small parking lot in front. Love the indoor and outdoor areas. They also have heaters which is definitely clutch when it's during the cooler months. Food: my favorite are the wings and nachos. I usually get that, but I need to try the other stuff on the menu! This time around, I did order the carne asada tacos; tbh they were a bit dry and didn't have much flavor. The service was very nice and the staff is always friendly! One thing they could add on their menu is guacamole. They have chips and salsa, but no guacamole. :( My most favorite part about this bar is that it is pet friendly! I'll definitely be back again and again.

The tacos are so good! Full of meat and flavor, very filling. The service is great and the bar is nice. Only high top seating but a nice bar. There's ton of seating outside too with a covered patio. We chose this place because it's open late, but it's a must if you're in old town San Diego.

We were sitting against the window at the high top wraparound bar tables (feels like an extension of the bar), so the bar is easy to order from and was our go to as soon as we arrived. The bartender took our order, but was standoffish as if we were doing something foreign or a big "no no". Finally the server in charge of our area told us that the bartenders are in charge of the bar and there are other servers for all the other tables/zones. If we were told that from the beginning, we would have made sure to follow the order of the place and order from the correct server. A few of us truly felt bad, but now we know when we go in next time what to expect. Barleymash is always a great time, so we always want to make sure we are doing it right! According to the bartender, ping pong and shuffleboard are free, the pool table and foosball take cash or card, and for the arcade (with skeeball, video games, etc.), guests get a game card. We just played some foosball while having dinner there this past Saturday, and I of course beat my bf. We really liked the quirky setting and old school items like the Pee-Chee folder menu cover and Blockbuster VHS case for the guest check when we paid our bill after our meal. At arrival, we were able to find a couple open seats at the bar as the place wasn't too busy during the early evening, though it did get busier hours later during comic-con weekend. We put ourselves on the waitlist for a table for four (since we were waiting for 2 people in our party who attended the crazy Avengers panel at Comic-Con), and the wait wasn't bad to get a table, about 20 minutes or so. The food here did not stand out, but wasn't bad in terms of taste. We had the chicken nugs appetizer at the bar, filet-o-fish sandwich, baby back ribs (dry) with a side of roasted veggies, and two orders of the wagyu burger with veggies. All of our dishes were typical bar food quality, and came with small portion sizes. The drinks we got were okay, and on the weak side. This included the rum potion and power up punch (Comic-Con menu special). Service was strangely lacking, even before it got busier with the Comic-Con crowd. At the bar, we bought our bartender a shot, she then forgot about us completely when my bf ordered another drink and asked to close out (so we could move to a table). Another bartender ended up helping us. At our table when our whole party was there, service took FOR-EV-ER, beyond what's reasonable for Comic-Con weekend. We joked that we could have just left after eating and they wouldn't have noticed till an hour later. I guess that's just how they do things here... yep they're slow. 3 stars for overall value and experience.

When I entered the restaurant around 7:00 PM, I was stopped and questioned extensively by security regarding my service animal. Rather than being asked the limited ADA-compliant questions permitted by law, the interaction became prolonged and uncomfortable while staff repeatedly attempted to determine whether my dog was a "real" service animal or simply an emotional support animal. I remained waiting at the entrance while this was repeatedly discussed back and forth. What made the situation especially humiliating was that another patron openly laughed at me during the interaction while walking outside for a cigarette. I later realized this same patron had her own dog inside the establishment in a stroller the entire time. Staff members appeared very familiar and comfortable with her, and multiple employees, including my waitress- referred to her as a "regular." Although her dog was eventually moved to the patio area, the contrast in how the situations were handled made me feel singled out, embarrassed, and unfairly scrutinized. I later spoke with management in hopes of resolving the matter respectfully. During that conversation, I was surprised and concerned to hear that neither management nor staff were familiar with psychiatric service animals or their protections under the ADA. Psychiatric service animals are legally recognized service animals when trained to perform disability-related tasks, and this lack of awareness was deeply concerning, especially in a city like San Diego with a large disabled and veteran community. I fully understand that businesses are allowed to ask limited ADA-compliant questions regarding service animals, and I also understand that many establishments have dealt with individuals falsely claiming pets as service animals. However, there is a significant difference between appropriately verifying a service animal and making a disabled customer feel publicly interrogated and humiliated. The overall handling of this interaction lacked professionalism, sensitivity, and basic understanding of ADA service animal protections. No customer should feel mocked, scrutinized, or publicly embarrassed simply for entering a restaurant with a legitimate service animal. I sincerely hope this situation can serve as an opportunity for additional ADA education and proper service animal training for staff moving forward so that other disabled guests do not experience similar treatment. I would appreciate being informed of any steps the restaurant intends to take regarding ADA compliance and staff training before I determine how I would like to proceed further. Thank you for your time and attention.

Captain's Log, Stardate 21483…read more This past Sunday, I charted a course to Nicky Rottens in Coronado, a delightful establishment located at the end of Orange Avenue. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by an uplifting open-air environment, truly a breath of fresh air that felt like stepping onto the observation deck of the USS Enterprise. The amazing views of the bay were nothing short of spectacular, bringing a serene beauty that rivals the finest star systems. Over the years, my wife, her girlfriend, and I have become frequent travelers to this culinary haven, beaming back for nearly 15 years--a testament to its enduring allure. The selection of IPAs and mixed drinks is impressive, catering to even the most discerning palates in the galaxy. The choices are vast enough to satisfy anyone embarking on this flavor exploration, whether you prefer a refreshing drink to toast a successful mission or something bolder, like a phaser on stun! The menu features a delightful array of options, including fresh salads, tantalizing finger foods, and, of course, their famed burgers. My wife's enthusiasm for the offerings has always been infectious, and during this visit, she and her girlfriend were on a culinary adventure of their own, indulging in the flavors that have made Nicky Rottens a local favorite. The burgers are truly out of this world--juicy, flavorful, and expertly crafted to ensure a warp-speed experience with every bite. You'll find that each dish is prepared with precision, as if overseen by a skilled chef with the abilities of a Vulcan and the passion of a true culinary Starfleet officer. In conclusion, Nicky Rottens is a prime destination for anyone seeking a vibrant atmosphere, stunning views, and a solid meal. I can confidently say that if you ever find yourself in Coronado, this establishment is a must-visit. After all, it's just one small step for man, and one giant leap into deliciousness! Live long and prosper. End log. Captain 619

Aside from that, they're generic normal tasting tater tots. For the burger, I liked the bun and other ingredients, but thought the savoriness of the meat was just okay. Also, can't say I'm a huge fan of the tiny lettuce whenever I see it. Overall, this joint is not bad, but I can think of very little about it that stands out. I don't feel that it fully leans into being a sports bar or dive bar or even as a burger joint. It's just.....a bar. Apparently, it prides itself as being an original coronado spot, but I didn't get that kinda vibe here. I don't know.

Came for the burgers, but after seeing the atmosphere, I can already tell this place has an awesome bar scene once I make it back for a real night out. Our waitress was fantastic. She never looked stressed despite how packed it was and kept an upbeat, welcoming vibe the entire time. One thing I really liked was the kitchen setup right behind the bar where you can see the team working from almost every angle in the restaurant. Even during the rush, they stayed calm and moved through orders like it was just another normal day. Food was excellent. Burger was thick, juicy, fresh, and cooked perfectly. Most importantly, my picky crew, a 12-year-old and 7-year-old, both enjoyed their food, which is always a win. Only real issue is parking, but honestly that's expected around this area. Worth the short walk if you end up parking along Main Street. Bathrooms were clean too. Definitely coming back for a second visit.

The inside was very nice and unique like a bar-type cafe with plenty of drink options. We got the breakfast burger that came with a huge grilled beef patty, bacon, a fried egg, and some veggies. The portions were huge and it was pretty good. The service was super quick and very friendly! Our server was great. Would definitely recommend for a quick brunch bite or for some drinks. There is indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of breakfast and lunch food options.
