The chicken boxty could have used a little bit more flavor to the sauce, it tasted kind of bland. The shepherd's pie was the beef version, it was not the best I've had but still good. I feel like it also could have used just a bit more flavor or some salt. The corned beef and cabbage tasted like they added nothing to it to give it flavor, so i was a bit disappointed with it. However, the corned beef was pretty tender and i liked the taste. We also ordered the house burger which we liked. I liked the flavor the irish cheddar gave it. It came with fries, which tasted fresh and we enjoyed. It's pretty dark inside, and it definitely looks older, but that's the vibe they are going for. So much fun the 1st weekend we had to go back again the next weekend we were in Downtown. The staff is truly special and so awesome. Food is great (I highly recommend the Irish chicken boxty with Jameson cream sauce) and the caramel apple bread pudding is indulgent and simply amazing. Drinks of course are great as well. My favorite is the Irish Old Fashioned (has a splash of Guinness) not too sweet and hits the spot. I love they have built in pour spout for the Jameson too. There is seating downstairs, an upstairs (where on occasion a live band plays and is awesome) and some seating outside. I haven't been to Ireland yet but when I walk into the Field it is exactly what I would imagine walking into a pub in Ireland would feel like. THE FIELD IRISH PUB @ DOWNTOWN 5th AVE Parking is available for street, but I'd definitely recommend ubering for a night out to avoid traffic and finding tight spots for parking. I came to this Irish bar on Saturday night at around 10:30 PM. It was pretty crowded, but we ended up finding a spot in the place. We ordered their Guinness beer, as it was very good quality. I'm not really a beer person, but everyone at my table ended up getting it and my boyfriend really loves this spot because of how high-quality of the beer they have. each beer is about $10 and they have it in a really nice glass. I also love the decor that they had like these curtains and plates that said like bread it was very like you were literally in Ireland. The service was also really great. We decided to give it a try and sat at the bar for a beer. We absolutely loved the ambience and coziness this place had to offer. My boyfriend and I went to San Diego for the weekend not realizing people would be celebrating St. Patrick's day not on St. Patrick's day. He's been wanting to go to a good Irish pub for a while so what better time to go than at a time where people chose to just celebrate when they felt like it. I chose this particular pub because it was in the Gaslamp district and I hadn't been there plus all the food looked great online. They checked our IDs going in and it was seemingly crowded but the hostess took us upstairs and sat us at a great spot by the window. We love people-watching and hearing the Irish music from the streets really brought an authentic Irish feeling. My boyfriend ordered a Guinness and while I thought about getting, at least, a cider, I wasn't particularly hungry and didn't want to fill up on one. I decided on a cocktail. My usual go-to liquor is tequila, but I was trying to get into the St. Patty's spirit and order something different. After asking the waitress which cocktail she preferred, I ended up with her preference of the blackberry margarita (it may have been called something else) and didn't want to disregard her suggestion. Still not very hungry but really wanting to try the food, we ordered the fried goat cheese and the potato leek soup. It was all so very delicious! Being southern, I love comfort food and it was definitely that. I compare everything to my mom's food and nothing ever beats it, but I definitely felt like Anton Ego in Ratatouille because I imagined being back in my childhood home for a minute eating potato soup and fried food. I went around lunchtime, and was pleasantly surprised to learn that they had an Irish New Year's celebration early in the day, followed by a more traditional one later. Staff was very accommodating, place was very busy. It's very interesting Decor; the wood was taken from an Irish pub, transported across the sea, and reassembled. So it's truly authentic. I had the Irish sampler which is four small samples. They include corned beef and cabbage, shepherds pie, boxty , and beef stew. They were all delicious. Service was fast, prices are very reasonable. I wish I lived in San Diego I would definitely be frequenting often! Brendan our server was so kind and had great conversation which I always appreciate so much from a bar, I know it gets super busy and it can be a lot so even the smallest gestures means the most! I'm obsessed with the potato skins, I immediately looked up a recipe to try when I get home to try and recreate these. The Field Irish Pub located in the San Diego Gaslamp area was chosen by a friend as a spot to enjoy a couple of pints and a meal while catching up, and having been there several years before, I welcomed the idea. Upon arrival we were met by a young lady at the entrance and she promptly allowed us to enter when we chose to sit at the bar counter. "End of pleasant experience!". Once seated the bartender was reluctant to assist us, somewhat brash, and unfriendly. We ordered pints, and were rushed to select our meals. I selected the Cornbeef Sandwich, and my friend chose the Fish 'N Chips which I passed on because I had previously had fish a few days prior. The food arrived and the french fries were raw, and tasteless, and I was reluctant to return them due to the bartender's mood. In addition, I could not wrap my head around how you could toast one side of one half of the sandwich and the other three sides be raw and soggy. Terrible sandwich. My friend enjoyed the fish but did not consume the fries. I should have given my sandwich to the basset hound sitting in the lap of the gentleman next to me because the dog was very interested. Also recommend sitting upstairs for a nice view of Gaslamp or view of the pub, and if you want a quieter ambiance. Food-- good! Shepherd's pie was comforting and had thick layer of potato. Perfect meal! We had the whiskey chicken Boxty and lamb shepherds pie. I ordered the lavender lemonade leprechaun drink and my husband liked it so much he ordered one for himself with vodka. We also had the whiskey with Oreos which tasted like Oreos, not whiskey (I prefer Oreos to whiskey).
