We happened to come here for my birthday after our sea world trip. Sorry for the half eaten pizza, we were so hungry and had to dig in before pictures. This Shakey's was very clean, very nice environment. They had a lot of TVs located everywhere with different sport Channel's playing. The best of all the staff were all very friendly. They were very welcoming and helpful. They brought the food to the table and came back later and asked if we would like anything else, which is new. I've never experienced such great customer service at a Shakey's location before. I wish this place was closer to me I would prefer going here. read more

Frist time here at the Escondido location. Which used to be the old Sizzlers and the entrance right before Regal theater. The staff is friendly and the MOJO fries are to die for. Not used to a Fun Stuff center. The last time I was at a Shakey's was back in my hometown in Texas. The happy hour is good and the do have all you can eat lunch buffet. We had the lunch buffet on a Sunday with 6 people to celebrate a birthday. $14 for adults and about $8 for kids making it an affordable option. The salad bar was well- stocked. All of the food was refilled often so it always seemed fresh and hot. The baked chicken was really good, and their thinly sliced mojo potatoes were delicious! They serve beer, hard seltzer, and wine too. The place got gradually more crowded, but it was very spacious so it didn't feel full. The game room was a hit with the kids, and not annoyingly loud like other places with games and prizes. All of the servers were nice and cleared our table regularly. Overall it was a good, family-friendly place to spend a Sunday meal, visit with a large group, or host a birthday party! We'll be back! read more

My wife and I typically have a bunch of lunch every few weeks or so. We normally go there on Sundays so I cannot give an opinion on the location for any other day of the week. This time we have gone 3 weeks in a row as I have wanted to get a to go order also. I am over 70 and have been going to Shakey's off and on since the 1970's when they had the El Monte location ( had an actual player piano and player in the evenings). Over the years depending on where I worked I also went to Whittier, Norwalk, Costa Mesa and San Gabriel locations. Escondido is the best I have been to. The staff keeps the place very well cleaned, the location is large enough for large groups and the staff are all personable and friendly. I would like to single out Brionna P.She is very personable, she seems to be a take charge young lady and does every task from cash registers to cleaning to helping in the kitchen.The young man whom I assume is the manager is also quite personable. We live in Oceanside so it is out of our way to go to that location. I do hope that this message is shared with the operations group that oversees that location. read more

I grew up going to shakeys pizza parlor in east side San Jose until they closed. The remaining locations were far away in SoCal. When I moved down here I was so excited they have a few. Today my husband and I came to dine im at the Escondido location and it brought back so many memories. I'm so happy their food is just as I remember! What a disappointment. The worst part was the lackluster service. I can deal with not smiling and low energy but, a serious violation of customer service is unacceptable. "Seriously, guys? You can't even bring the drinks, plates and silverware to the table?" I had to go up to the counter to get the drinks and the silverware. To add insult to injury two of the forks were dirty. Obviously, nobody seems to care about the quality of food or the service. And the hygiene is even sketchy. The pizza itself was mediocre. It lacked flavor and had no crunch. We got the two pizzas: veggie and meat for variety. They tasted the same, except that the meat one was greasier. The best part of the experience was the pitcher-sized beer and the price. Basic cheese pizza was the best thing on the menu. The Texas BBQ Chicken pizza has WAY too much barbecue sauce on it and it makes the pizza sweeter than a Nestle Cookie dessert pizza. I immediately called the restaurant and they apologized and said they will more than make up for the missing wings. This afternoon I went back to the store and I was very pleased that both Eric and Benecia (store managers) were kind enough to give me much more than the missing wings. I came here for the Bunch of Lunch buffet. It is a bit of a drive from San Diego but not too bad since it is freeway accessible. I like the buffet at Shakey's because it has a good variety of items. This restaurant looks newer, has a large dining area, and it's very clean, which is a plus. The salad bar has numerous good quality items. There is even sun dried tomatoes which are usually not found often in a salad bar since this ingredient is pricey. There is also the ubiquitous red Jello and cream dessert which I always get. I enjoyed making a big salad with all the available items even though I shouldn't fill up on salad at a buffet. I had to knock off one star because of the pizza. The pizzas were dry the day I went and the toppings were a bit skimpy. I think it was just an off day or time. The Shakey's pizza is usually quite acceptable. These tasted fine but could have been better. I would have liked a few more pizza options with vegetables on the buffet line. I did enjoy the pepperoni twists which I have not seen at other Shakey's buffets. Reminded me of a pepperoni roll from West Virginia. There was an Oreo dessert pizza available, which seemed popular, but I did not try it. The buffet also has spaghetti with two sauces. There are steamed vegetables which I always get to balance out my plate. The fried chicken and baked chicken are very nicely made. The chicken here is the best found in a buffet. It is juicy and never dry. Mojo potatoes were perfectly fried and was a treat with either ketchup or ranch dressing. All in all, the Bunch of Lunch buffet is a good value for $9.99. I doubt there are many quality buffets at that price point with the same variety. It has something for everyone. I will definitely go back. read more

We both had the salad bar and pizza because we wanted to try all that the restaurant had to offer and the pizza was not good at all. The salad bar was minimal and bland. The service was good though. My amazing honey and I were in the mood for the amazing fried chicken here so we made the trip to Esco and we decided to try the spaghetti with meat sauce and garlic cheese bread as well. Shakey's doesn't disappoint! Our chicken was fried fresh to order, very juicy and tender not to mention super crispy! The spaghetti and garlic bread also appear to have been made to order(very hot and fresh). The pasta has a classic flavor you want when you're craving spaghetti with meat sauce and the garlic cheesbread was crisp and full of flavor. Also everything is decently priced here. New Shakey's in Escondido! We were excited about them opening one so close to us. Oh the nostalgia! But.. it wasn't as good as I've remembered. We ordered a medium Shakey's special pizza, wings, salad bar, and 1/2 order of famous mojo potatoes. The only good thing was their wings. The pizza dough was probably waaay over proofed or something because it tasted like alcohol.. the mojos were mushy and not even hot.. which means they didn't fry it fresh.. grrrr Our son wanted to play some games at the arcade so we left the table for a bit and they cleared it when we got back lol. w/e The game area was so small and had very little space to fit even 10 people so if you're planning on throwing a birthday party for your little ones.. uhmm go somewhere else lol read more

Growing up in Chicago in the 70's if you were going to a birthday pizza party you could pretty much bet it was at Shakey's... I grew up eating their "Bunch 'O Lunch" on occasion... By the mid 80's the Shakey's near us closed down... I now live in San Diego and hadn't been to Shakey's in year, ran across this relatively new one in Escondido and decided to give it a try... The place is VERY clean and the staff is very friendly, lunch buffet was clean and neat... I went for their famous fried chicken that I loved so much and a couple pieces of sausage pizza, first bite and I was taken back to my childhood, tasted EXACTLY the same as I remember! Their fried chicken is excellent and their pizza has a taste all it's own! ALL the food was very fresh and very hot! If you love "classic" fried chicken, give theirs a try, it is fantastic! I'll definitely stop in from time to time for some chicken and pizza at lunchtime and maybe even on a Friday evening for some pizza and beers! read more

Came here on their 3rd day of Grand Opening and was really impressed :) I remember Shakey's growing up as a kid on Miramar Rd. as the pizza parlor that had the sit down table top Galaga arcade game but that's the extent of of it, lol- Who knew The old dimmed lit Sizzler Restaurant transformed into a bright open & happenin' sports bar with a Dave &Busters feel. I don't really remember the whole pay up front from the past but its still okay. Our cashier Miss Taylor S. was friendly & welcoming and in my opinion has the perfect attitude for representing them. Especially with 1st impressions that is huge deal for me! So YAYe TayLor!,, She gave us a few recommendations and we ordered the family deal pan pizza added a topping /chicken/mojo potato- plus sodas and a pitcher of IPA was reasonably affordable. (With the pitcher of beer around $16/17-)and Blue Bunny strawberry shortcake Ice cream- total was a little less than $100 bucks- which is comparable to what I would pay for a dinner out anyways with the family. The pizza was yummy -pepperoni with a saucey sweetness and thicker sliced mushrooms, & the crust bottom edges buttered with enough crisp. Mojos potatoes and chicken seasoned well:) Really family friendly with booth seating, & long tables to accommodate large groups. Flat screens everywhere, Historical Escondido memorabilia for decor gives it a home town feel. My kids are all now grown young adults so they didn't play in the game room (thankful because between the 3 of them I would have spent who knows how much!!! So The pros first, It's new, it's clean, the staff was friendly, the managers were accommodating, and the atmosphere was nice. The chicken was fantastic, and the mojo was pretty good, the only downfall was the pizza, unfortunately. I returned a pepperoni pizza because it looked like it had no cheese and they brought me another one that looked exactly the same. I don't know their recipe, but I was not a fan of the pizza. Pizza should be loaded with cheese and pepperoni, and hot off the plate, this was college cafe and or buffet pizza at best. But overall great experience, just wished pizza tasted better. read more

Their customer service is also superb. We get treated awesome every time as their management (Bryanna) constantly checks on any further needs at each table. This is a place that makes us feel a dollar so very well spent and appreciated by them. Do we recommend Shakey's? Heck yeah!
