Patrick our server was AWESOME!! Fast, professional, friendly, efficient & gave us excellent service on a busy Saturday night. First time eating there for us and the food chicken kebab combo with salad & side of rice was the BEST‼‼ [[HIGHLIGHT]]They need a bigger location.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food is amazing. You won't be disappointed.

This was my first time returning to Shamshiry after moving back to the area. It was just as good as I remember! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior of the restaurant has been nicely updated, although personally I like the fact that they decided to keep the familiar sign and awning out front.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] In an industry with plenty of turnover, it's a nice callback to how long this place has been around. The food at Shamshiry is as good as ever. Their chicken kabob is deliciously marinated and pairs well with a persian salad and tadik. Times change and life keeps moving, but a few familiar things mercifully persist. Might as well round out the evening with some baklava and hot tea while you're at it. For old time's sake. Thanks Shamshiry.

I was excited to try Shamshiry but it was not that great. We got here just before a Friday night rush, but could not determine the cause of the rush, since the food was not good. Parking is frustrating and unclear. Service was fine. My joojeh was flavorless. Kubideh was a bit better. Bread was awful. Rice was fine; was able to make a delicious fried rice at home with the leftovers. I did like my tea with rock sugar candy though. There are so many better options for Persian.

This is a restaurant I highly recommend to any of my friends or family when they visit the area. The meat is perfectly seasoned, tender, and juicy. The portions are generous as well. Service is quick and very friendly when they explain the menu. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining area is always busy every time I go but tables are nicely spread out so that you can enjoy your meal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Forgot to take a picture of the Persian ice cream but that is a must have!

I have to give an update to this place. Over the years, I feel like they have improved. We dined recently on Christmas Eve, and even for them being crazy busy, they did such an amazing job trying to seat us efficiently. They told us a hour wait for us being a party of 9 but they sat us in 45 minutes which was amazing. Food did taste amazing and I loved the green pepper sauce as a dip. I ordered the combination of chicken and kabobs. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The environment was very nice with table properly ready and table was prepared well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server did a good job putting the food quickly in the system and us getting everything timely. The bread and butter was nice and fresh as well.

Delicious Persian / Iranian food at an affordable price point. Not much free parking but there is a parking garage. Service was average but also what I would expect at this price point. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It gets busy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We got the Mast-o Musir which was a shallot flavored yogurt. It was an excellent dip for the free naan at the table. I also tried the Shamshiry kabob with combines a kubideh kabob and a barg kabob. I preferred the kubideh kabob from this dish. I ordered the jujeh kabob and the cornish hen was very tender and had a nice charred flavor. Would recommend if you like chicken. Tastier and more unique than a regular chicken kabob. I also highly recommend the Persian Ice Cream. It was super creamy and bursting with flavor. Great way to end the meal. I preferred it over the rollet which was like a Swiss roll.

We went back to Shamshiri after a long time and I have to say that we won't be back again . The restaurant is very factory like. It took them a while to bring water and bread to the table . We ordered Masto -Musir which was very small. For food we ordered Chelo kabob shamshiry( we got sick from that) and chicken soltany with Baghali polo. The chicken was burned and dried out, when we told our waiter he just looked at us! For desert we got Persian ice cream, it was all melted so they brought us another one , it was absolutely flavorless.

The bread is wonderful and the chicken kebabs are amazing. Very moist with the rice and salad. The hummus was good and needed a little more tahini and garlic. Our waiter was very attentive and I ordered the lamb and filet mignon. I did not realize it was going to cost $47 everybody laughed at me, but what are you gonna do? The Cornish hen looked a little overcooked. Otherwise it was a nice time. I would not recommend the ice cream with saffron in it and rose. Very pungent flavor.

THE KUBIDEH KABOB HAS MY HEART. It's really that good! To be safe you have to come on a weekday because the weekend is packed! You could find a table but you're going to have to wait. This is our first try here since we were in Washington DC. Ali was the one who was our server and host. Absolutely excellent food and vibe . Each portion is enough for two individual. Albaloo polo was super tasty and fresh . Shiahllek was juicy and tender, without meat smell. Highly recommended

It's a must show to any out of towners. I lived in LA for the past 5 years and had incredible Persian food in the land of their people (Glendale hahahah) but I missed this place most of all. Put egg yolk and butter in your rice, pair the spicy green stuff with everything, get khiar and shirazi with your kubideh. You're welcome.

I heard a lot about ShamShiry before going for an early dinner with a friend. The first thing one notices is the absolutely excellent service--friendly, quick, and professional. Second, the portions of absolutely authentic Persian food are HUGE. Hummus may not sound exciting, but it's the best around. And the saffron ice cream for desert was out of this world. This place was packed on a Tuesday night, but for very good reason. My boyfriend had said he had been 7 years ago and that we should go and finally we did! We ordered the koobideh and the lamb dish and it was absolutely delicious. The manager was friendly when we arrived and answered questions when we had them...there's a nice spice on the table "sumac" that's good for cholesterol. Needless to say, huge portions of rice, fresh food, and lovely staff. We will definitely be back! read more

One of the best Persian kabob spots in the area. Authentic and this time I hit the rice with the egg! Gave it that extra shimmer! Went during lunch and service was great as always. Been going to this spot since highschool and has been a go-to for my visiting friends and family ever since. Tip: be ready to ask for more green sauce cuz that stuff is some stuff! read more

So service is fine. The food is decent. It's not my favorite Persian spot, I got two others that are much better and more consistent than this place. But one cup had a sharp edge and I almost cut my mouth on it. And then my replacement cup was dirty.. it's ok next time I'll just bring my own water or something. read more

I always loved this place that's very close to the Tysons Sheraton and tucked away in the Westwood road. Excellent service and great food. You have an unlimited supply of bread with a nice spicy green accompaniment. Service is top class, water glasses filled up instantly they are empty. My chicken kabob tasted fantastic. The yogurt sauce mixed in the rice was right like I am used to. I took the rice home. I would have loved some gravy too make the rice moist. This restaurant has been fairly consistent in both excellent food and great service. read more

I swung by Shamshiry for a birthday dinner with a crew of 12. They managed to squeeze us in, but overall, it was just okay. Vegetarian Friendly: - Unfortunately, Shamshiry isn't the move for vegetarians. Their menu really just focuses on meats. Decor: - The ambiance at Shamshiry is a mix of cozy and elegant. However, I secretly wished for more Persian or Middle Eastern vibes. Maybe some colorful tiles or intricate lanterns? Food Breakdown: - Lamb Kabob: It's good, but not mind-blowing. The flavor could use a little boost. Have to give it a solid 3 out of 5. - Saffron Rice: Now, this is where things get interesting. The saffron rice surprised me with its unique taste. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5. Portion Size: - Nothing to complain here. The portions are pretty satisfying. Service: - The staff is friendly, but they move at a slow and honestly they could be alot more attentive. For example just to place our order I had to get up and get the waiter to come and take our order. Price: - Considering the Tyson's Corner location and the fact that I ordered a lamb dish, the price make sense. I just wanted to update this review to once again strongly encourage the owner of Shamshiry to consider taking reservations. I understand the reasons why they don't, as I have talked with the staff before, but times have changed since my original review in 2018. Here is why I think a reconsideration of the no reservations policy is in order: 1. The restaurant is always very busy during the weekends, no matter what time you go there. I have tried many different times and always end up waiting for a long time. 2. Several times while I've been waiting in line to just put my name on the seating list, a person in the back of the line decides they are not waiting and comes right up to the front and the employees seem too meek to say anything to them, and they get a seat, which leaves everyone else in line pretty angry. 3. The waiting area is so small and packed with people, and in these days when people are worried about getting sick, it's not great to be squished in that area. However, Shamshiry is still serving fantastic food and I've been a loyal customer for over 24 years now, it's one of the few restaurants that my family of 4 totally agrees on, but reservations would make our time management a lot simpler since we do not live that close to the restaurant. read more

Shamshiry has been a family favorite for over 10yrs. Always bustling with energy and friendly amazing staff. One of the best places to have a delicious meal and avoid the rush hour traffic! Excellent variety of fish and meat skewers over fluffy white or green rice. Love the filet mignon, lamb shank, fish kabob and tandoori soltani with koobideh. Tzatziki is perfect for starter. Excellent with cardamom tea and finish off with saffron ice cream! Recently renovated dining space and restrooms. The best Persian cuisine and the standard to which all others are compared to!! read more

I was so amazed at how generous the portion was when they brought this out! Thought it was a shared dish for a whole table but nope, just mine, made just for me lol the koobideh was so delicious and juicy. Just the perfect seasoning, not too salty. The chicken chunks were okay, they were not dry but could've been a little bit more flavorful. I can't get over the fragrant aroma of the rice! It smelled so good and made me instantly hungry. Definitely ask for tzatziki sauce on the side to eat with your bread and meat! Decent service, they forgot a few things here and there because they were busy so it's okay. Kabobs here tasted excellent! The light airy flat bread really hit the spot! Unfortunately, they don't take reservations, so we waited outside for a table. The inside didn't have adequate waiting room. My Iranian colleague, Farchid, touted this as the best place in the DMV to get kabobs. And Yelp reviewers seemed to agree. Found myself across the street at Walmart on a rainy spring afternoon. What better time to drop in for a taste?!? Okay, first off: park on the TOP deck of the parking garage behind the restaurant. As soon as I entered, I was SHOCKED to hear Little Red Corvette (huge Prince fan) and then Caribbean Queen as the first two songs over the speakers... (Edit: Close your eyes and imagine you're listening to a pop radio station from 1985-1988. That's the music you'll hear; at least during lunch service.) Servers quickly brought both a basket of bread and a large, ice cold bottle of water. My waiter, Yaya, promptly appeared and made a recommendation for my entree. The meal arrived relatively quickly and the serving size was huge. The Chelo Kabob Kubideh was tender and well seasoned. The white rice with saffron was perfectly prepared, and I liberally added butter as recommended by other reviewers (but not an egg yolk). I did add a bit of the brown powdered sumac from a shaker in the table as well. I'll definitely be back, and will specifically ask for Yaya. read more

OMG to the flat bread served before you order! I would pay for it and just eat bread if it wasn't for their amazing rices and great meats. While the restaurant could look a bit nicer, the food more than makes up for any lack of decoration. read more

My Persian boyfriend + his friends/family and I come here all the time when we're craving a good kebab meal. Must get: - koobideh kabob - this beef dish is the BEST thing here - salmon kabob - this is technically not authentic persian but it's my absolute favorite, as someone who loves salmon - barg - another great beef dish - saffron ice cream - it's my boyfriend's favorite but I'm ok without it :) Mediocre: - gormeh sabzi - it's OK but not great, still good to try if you've never had this amazing herb-filled and hearty dish - Gheymeh Tahdig - also good to try Service is always reliable and fast. It does gets busy around brunch on weekends but we usually go without reservation and can be seated right away. The restaurant has a nice formal yet casual feel. read more

If I could leave a cero star I would, horrible costumer service starting from the entrance, incompetent and they took 35 min to bring the bill, every single server had cero costumer service experience, they did not even care. Food is not bad, I would give it a 5 out of ten, of course the dishes that we tried. Over all just because of the food I would give this place a 4.5/10 Extremely bad. read more

Our lunch at Shamshiry started off better than it ended. It may have been that we arrived early when there were few diners and the restaurant had filled up as we ate. The location is convenient to Tysons but the parking is a real pain as the spaces for the restaurant are on the top floor of the parking deck. Once you drive all the way up there and then walk all the way down, you will find that the dining area is spacious and light. Our waiter was very helpful and patient as we decided what to eat, making a recommendation that we substitute one of the regular rice that comes with our entrees with the zureshk polo rather than ordering the whole huge serving of it in addition. That was good advice because, though it is delicious, each entrée already comes with a very generous serving of rice. To start with, the pita and whatever that green sauce is on the side is super good. The tea was fine but not as strong as we would have liked and it came in a very small pot which we thought would be bigger for $3.99 per person. We drank through it very quickly and had a very hard time getting anyone's attention to ask for another pot. This was one of the biggest problems. The staff seemed to gravitate towards the other end of the dining room. Short of standing up and waving, it was very hard to communicate with anyone to get refills, ask questions, order more food or get the check. This really put a damper on the whole meal. We enjoyed the jujeh kabob (Cornish hen), lamb kabob and chela kabob. We only wish the aspects other than the food, convenience or parking and the ability to get the attention of any of the wait staff was as good as what we ate. read more

Excellent food for the price and portions! Went for dinner service and it appears to be a family style dinner place. The busboys and ladies all wear the horrendous generic tuxedo black/white outfit to make the place appear elevated with its white table linens, but thankfully with their casual swift service, many appreciate their table turnover skills. Best kubideh in the DMV area. The barg is pretty average and the chicken too. The portions are MASSIVE. It's hard not to fill up on just the bread and spicy chimichurri. The For a party of 17 we all left stuffed and satisfied. The downside is for a party as big as ours they refused to take reservations during the busy dinner hour. So one of us had to arrive early to be placed on the waitlist. The service was excellent once we got a table. They managed to serve us all at the same time. The place itself is nice and modern but with how filled it gets it's pretty hard to hear your own party talking without raising your voice. I have been coming here for several years, making it a tradition every time visit DC.. which Is a few times a year. I was initially blown away by the food (only cities like LA and Toronto tend to have very good Persian restaurants that remain consistently so because of competition).... but as the years have passed the food has become mediocre at best and service is very very poor. I feel it's perhaps there lack of competition. I didn't comment the past 3-4 times to give them a chance and avoid generalizing one bad experience. I am convinced this place has lost it. Again, the food is mediocre at best. I normally have the soltani or Shamshiry. This is the foundation to any Persian restaurant. You simply can't mess that up. The meat and chicken are so so. No service. It's a free for all. You have to basically serve yourself or be lucky with a waiter. They will sit you down and you need to wait a long time for your actual waiter to notice you. The food is not even served by your actual waiter and often they make mistakes. I have commonly got items out of normal order, or had to ask a bunch of times. When you ask for salad instead of rice they give you 2 slices of tomato and just a bunch of Romain. What makes it worst is that they sprinkle kidney beans on top of it. Yes, red kidney beans with koobideh!!?! The grilled tomato that is traditionally given with any kebab plate is cold and poorly done. I think people have to be honest and stop giving historical credit to restaurants who lower their standards. I also felt there aren't many Persian customers attending this place anymore, and while I personally welcome all non-Persians to flood Persian restaurants, I fear in an area that has a lack of competition the non-Persians may not be appreciating what great Persian restaurants look and taste like (and are unknowingly supporting bad food/service). This would no have happened with more competition. I wish them the best but this is my last time there. read more

I am a kabob lover and have tried many restaurants including Shamshiry in this area. I stopped going to Shamshiry about a year ago because the quality of their food and service had taken a nose dive. After reading a barrage of recent five star rating I decided to give them another chance thinking that may be a new management had taken over and made significant improvements. I have gone back two times in the past few weeks and have been quite disappointed every time. my experience is quite different than these recent reviews. The chicken kabob was dry and had NO flavor. kobideh was tough and also flavorless. I ordered the combination barg and cornish hen on zereshk polo which is not their menu and paid ridiculously high price of $28.99. the server disappears after serving your food, they do not come around to ask If you need anything elss or to refill your soda. Even when was ready to pay and check out i stopped different server who was waking by to bring me the check. It took about 5 minutes to get the check and they were not even busy!! you can also forget courtesy friendly attitude. I will never go back to this restaurant again. I will only give them one star beacuse their is no zero. read more

DISGUSTING!!!!!!! NEVER EAT HERE EVER unless you want to die They have a window into the kitchen...I was watching them cook while waiting in a long line..The cooks on the grill had these hand towels and they kept wiping their sweat on them dropping them and then WIPING their hands and they USE THEIR HANDS TO TAKE THE MEAT OFF THE SKEWER I brought it to the attention of the guy who worked there and he didnt even care I WALKED OUT and took people with me from the line I looked this place up on the VA health dept SO MANY VIOLATIONS DONT GO BACK unless you want to die I found this on the health dept web site 2-301.14A Critical ALL food employees failed to wash his or her hands before engaging in food preparation, after touching bare human body parts, after coughing, sneezing, eating, after handling soiled utensils or after engaging in any activity which may have contaminated his/her hands. After two hours driving from Pennsylvania to have a Persian meal, I am totally disappointed. As a Persian, I always support Persian restaurants, but of course, the atmosphere and the food should represent the amazing Persian cuisine. The restaurant was busy, but it doesn't mean the quality should not be perfect. I gave it one star because of the rice - good quality and quantity, but the rest of the experience was disappointing. I attach several photos to prove my point. I haven't seen a Persian restaurant which does not have Ghandan (a proper sugar bowl). The non-Persian bread was also microwaved, so it was hard within two minutes after they brought it. I ordered Shamshiry Kabab (Kubideh&Barg). While they didn't ask how I wanted it, it came burned on one side and not cooked enough on the other side. The dish was sloppily presented - a mess. The tea was not hot enough too. No one asked us how the meal was or if we needed any other thing. That's absolutely not the Persian experience. Disappointed. read more

I used to think that Shamshiry was one of the best Iranian restaurants in our area. I have taken my parents-in-law there every time they visited town. Unfortunately my last experience there, this week, was somewhat disappointing. The person who greeted us was borderline rude and uncaring and when my food arrived I couldn't believe the poor quality of my chicken kabob. It was as if someone had boiled the chicken! I had also ordered the zereshk polo rice, being originally from Iran, I know the real deal. What I got was plate of watery/oily tasteless probably boiled zereshk that was poured over rice. It definitely wasn't worth the wait to be seated. I don't know if they are going through changes of cook or management, but I wouldn't recommend the place again until I hear words that they are improving. read more

Food = Awesome Price = Above average depending on what you get. (Fish $14.99 - Shamshiry which is combo Kubideh and Barg around $20- Barg only $15.99) Restaurant Design = Boring and plain Service = Just ok I guess, nothing amazing Environment = Small, nothing to really look at at since its a Middle Eastern Restaurant you would expect some traditional portraits, pictures, or design. Bathroom = Not so good. Right next to the kitchen. Kitchen = You can look into the kitchen which is good in a way but I dont like that its next to the bathroom. General people eat there = Iranians and everyone else too but mostly middle Eastern but you always see someone else too which is nice. We go there because of the food and THAT IS IT! read more

I called in order some dishes The front desk girl Hint took the order.I called in again I added some salad to my order with manager name was Ali I asked for bread but Ali said it is already coming with order. I picked up the order When I came back to my business there was no bread. Hint prepared the order I called back Hint answered the phone she was very rude instead of solving the problem she start fighting with me she was saying bread is extra.That wasn't the problem I would've pay extra no problem.It is Inconvenient to go back pick up the bread it is 20 minutes drive also she didn't give that option. I could probably tolerate the attitudes if the kabobs were good. My friend and i ordered kabob kubideh and chicken. They were both dry and tasteless. The rice had no flavor. When complained to the server, he did not care about customers. Donot waste your time and money where they are not friendly. I also had the same experience as the 2 star giver Mary from Alexandria. The server brought back my change i asked him to break the $5 bill to give him $ 4 tip. He said they did not have change for $5. I assume that he wanted to keep the entire $5 bill. So i only left him 5 pennies. I hope he learned his lesson. read more

I had a fantastic dining experience at Shamshiri! We were a large group of 7, and they were able to accommodate no problem. I ordered the Mahi Kebab with green rice, a beautifully cooked salmon dish that was both juicy and flavorful. It was served with a delightful dill and fava bean rice that complemented the salmon perfectly. The rice was fragrant and the beans tender, a perfect pairing. Service was attentive, some 80's music was playing, which all made for a great atmosphere, adding to the overall enjoyment of my meal. Not great - very little service, crowded and not attentive to orders or requests. Was there on a busy Saturday but they must Know that Saturday will be busy. I have visited a lot of Persian restaurants all over and this one was disappointing. The bread at the table was Not Persian and clearly microwaved so it was hard after 1-2 minutes. The fish kabob was dry and the rice didn't have a nice taste, mushy. Not Persian style. The dishes looked like someone has just dropped he food on, not appealing. I won't go again. We ordered the Doogh, Chelo Kabob Kubideh, Chicken Kabob, Jujeh Kabob and Persian Ice cream and needless to say that every dish was very very very yummy. I love eating kabobs and this place just makes them perfectly. Very well seasoned and well cooked with the kabobs just melting in your mouth. We did want to order Paludeh Shirazi but it was not available. So the waiter recommended Persian Ice cream and we have no regret. The portions served was huge for every item ordered and one serving of the Persian Ice cream had 4 large scoops. We were very happy with the food. read more

Went in to dine for lunch and it was amazing. Persians cuisine is very tricky to get right, the fact that this place is a staple says A LOT! Come here to explore Persian cuisine and left genuinely satisfied. The food was seasoned well and had excellent flavor all around. Service was a bit off, but otherwise it was a great experience. The rice was cooked well, but slightly under seasoned which was fine because the juices of the meats marinated the rice adding more savory flavor that makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Best Persian food I've ever had! The kabobs are ridiculously delicious! I used to live in Tysons corner and came here pretty regularly- I moved to Maryland and really miss this place! Miss it so much I drove here from Chevy Chase tonight for dinner :) My favorite dish is Chicken Soltani with half rice/ half salad. Delicious! As a side note, I tend to judge how good a restaurant's food is by how many people from the same culture are eating there... and this place is packed w/Persian people. read more

They changed and reduced their food quality. We tried and love their koobideh many times and most of the time inside was uncooked. When you talk to them they offer you a free crispy rice or side salad. Also they give you a barely cooked SMALL HALF tomato on side!! you have to order the other half!! I feel like they don't care about customers any more because they are always crowded even if they serve $-!t You don't like shamshiry go to Alborz same owner family:))) dominated the area ?! read more
