We ordered the fried pork roll and could tell it was made in house right away. We got the soup dumplings and stuffed pork dumplings. The taste was very authentic and would love to come back! The service was good, but the place needs to play some music and it would help with the atmosphere. We plan on coming back. read more

We were about the fourth table in the restaurant, which climbed to about seven tables while we were there on a Saturday evening. It was our first time, and we went for the soup dumplings and the combination dry pot, pictured. This place is close to where I'm staying right now. From previous reviews, it says it's Sichuan dishes. The place is easy to find, clean and welcoming owners I assumed. Good selection of foods and this time, I tries their salt and pepper short ribs and sweet and sour soup. The short ribs are savory but missed the flavor of salt and pepper. I came in for an early dinner. The restaurant is clean and inviting. Service was friendly and checked in on us several times. I tried several dishes the Dan Dan noodles and boiled spicy beef. Both were very flavorful and have the mala numbing flavor. I thought both dishes were medium spicy. The veggie eggroll was fried nicely and had a good crunch. The meal was served piping hot, which was wonderful in the cold weather. Portion size is large and I have leftovers! Old timey Chinese restaurant. They have a small bar as well. Ordered Kung Pao Chicken. Ready for pick-up in 20 minutes. Enough for 4 normal meals, served with white rice. A little different flavor. New owners in this place is absolutely stunning. Just start with a bok choy. It's the best vegetable you'll ever eat in your life then order the soup, dumplings, shrimp, and pork. You won't find a better dish then maybe try the Mongolian chicken. read more

I have to say my expectations were low but I was craving Asian food. I actually extremely happy and will def order from her again!!! Very fresh and flavorful. I have not eaten at Shan before even though it is right across RR620 from my office. Great looking menu with a huge selection of item. Waiter was efficient and quickly took my drink and food order. Within 10 minutes I had my entree on the table. I ordered the Chongquig Style Spice Beef. The order was large and I took home 2/3rds of it. Great flavor and good spice level. I finally visited here after driving by it a few times and noticed they have decent reviews on Yelp. We tried several items, including the eggplant, pork intestine, spicy chicken cubes, tofu, pork ribs, fried rice, and lo mein. The spicy chicken is not quite as spicy as other restaurants that serve a similar dish. It does have some ginger and whole peanuts in it, which makes it a little different. The lo mein is pretty standard. The pig intestine is a weird dish that has sort of a pungent taste. I mainly ate the onions, jalapeños and bell peppers within this dish. The fried tofu may have been the least liked dish on the table. Slathered in sweet n sour sauce. It's just a weird combination. The fried rice, pork ribs, and eggplant are pretty standard dishes with not a lot of standout. Overall, the service is friendly, and I like the orange cucumber and grape flavored water that is served at each table. read more

Shan looks nice when you first walk in. Don't look too hard. * * * The first sign that something was wrong was that the floor to ceiling windows hadn't been washed in a long long time. The windows were not as filthy as windows can get - but they were bad. The second sign was that either sunlight or wear and tear had discolored blotches in the artwork on the sunblinds. The third sign was the spareribs I ordered. Some ribs had nearly no meat on them. The others were heavy on fat and gristle. Some sort of red sparerib sauce - possibly out of a bottle - had been dumped on them at the last minute just before serving. We wanted to check out this restaurant. I'm glad we went for lunch because it was not crowded and they have lunch specials. (You might have to ask about them but I posted a photo). We were pleasantly surprised to see they have juicy dumplings also know as Xiao long bao. They were good: where else can you order this in Lakeway? I gave four stars because it was good. Excellent Szechuan style Chinese food with non-spicy options! They just opened, and their food and service is amazing! We tried their Mixed Vermicelli, their Beef and Broccoli, and their Fried Redfish dish (they had bass today so we substituted). They also gave us some homemade egg rolls to trial which were the best we've ever had and we've eaten Chinese food regularly in Houston's Chinatown! The fish was super fresh and the meat and vegetables were tender and perfectly done. Food was light and not too heavy. The shrimp fried rice was so tasty! We'll definitely be back soon! read more

My wife found them in her FB ATX which is an Asian food group. Their flavor of the cooking is very good; I ordered the combo lomein w/chix & shrimp. The chef specialty is from the central region (Szechuan) so if you like spicy this is the place for you. My wife ordered the Mongolian beef which was excellent as well as the vegetable egg roll. Shan is a gem in the Lakeway / Bee Cave neighborhood. The food is extremely flavorful and service is adequate and fast. Service was horrible from the minute we walked in the door. We were greeted by a coughing, sneezing server. The portions were large, but once they dropped the very mediocre food off we never saw them again. I ordered "broccoli and chicken" The broccoli had brown marks on all of their stems as was not appetizing. I was so disappointed. All the employees were eating lunch and we had to call someone over to get our check. We will not be returning. Had dinner with a friend at Shan last night and the 2 dishes we had were terrible! They were fried to a point that all that was left of the chicken and beef was meat fiber and crust. The general Tso was obviously sweet and sour chicken with some peppers added. The hot and sour soup, was not good. Thrown away as no one would eat it. Left over from the previous day? Food came nice and hot. My shrimp were cooked perfectly. The portions were generous. The Hot & Sour soup was a bit too starchy for our tastes. The Shrimp with veggies dish was too sweet. No amount of soy sauce could fix that. And the spring roll was too tough to enjoy so I left half. The staff was friendly but not very attentive. I couldn't get a refill on my water.
