So far we have only bought take away from Red Lotus, so maybe the in-person experience is better. This might explain the positive reviews. The two take away orders included very similar dishes but very different quality, as if prepared by two different people, one of whom is not ready for prime time. The first order was average to good, while a good bit of the second had to be discarded. The fried eggrolls, for example, somehow managed to be simultaneously overcooked, greasy, and flavorless. The General Tso chicken was delicious in the first order but a bit tough and overcooked (but at least still edible) in the second order. At some point we will try going there in person, but the take away is lacking. read more

They originally said they would refund entire meal..waited several weeks to see that. Had to call them back again to request the refund..now they say will only refund 1 entire..so less than half! The Thai basil chicken was delicious. It had plenty of spice and had plenty of flavorful vegetables. The pork and shrimp spring rolls were a whole different story. We asked for them to an appetizer, yet came after the entree came. When they arrived the first bite was rancid. We complained and were not charged. Exceptional Chinese food. It's the westernized version but it hits all the right notes on flavor, spice and quality. Sauces are full of flavor and they do a good job of tempering the amount of sugar and volume they use. Most other places just drench their food in sugary sauce. Batter on the chicken is light and crunchy. Their is an attention to detail that is very noticeable. They have all the standard dishes and a few specialties and honestly, it's all great. In terms of the menu, there are plenty of options to choose from, think Panda Express but with table service. No, that's not a ding, but more of a reference point in terms of the food you can expect here: Kung Pao Chicken, Broccoli Beef, Garlic Pork, you get it. Walking in I was unsure how authentic the food here would be but the large customizable menu seemed to cater to many different tastes and appetites. The lunch combo is a really great deal - a main dish with an egg roll and soup for about $11 is a steal. I got the Bangkok Basil with shrimp. Although rut was not as spicy as I would have liked it was still good. I also wish the basil flavor was a bit stronger however the vegetables and shrimp were well prepared. The egg roll was also crispy. Alone it was kind of flavorless but pairing it with the basil sauce made it better. The egg drop soup was pretty good - very rich and flavorful. Our family has always ordered takeout from red lotus, but today my fiancé took us to dine in. The food is always incredible through takeout, and it's even better in person. The service is a liiiittle slow, but that's fine. The food makes it absolutely worth it. We started off ordering the sample platter appetizer and steamed dumplings. Everything was great. As usual. Then for main entrees, we orders the general tso with chicken, beef fried rice, and chicken lo mein. I hate to post a negative review. I don't take likely that this business is someone's livelihood. That said, I do need to share my experience to save others from wasting their money and being disappointed. The takeout we got last night was supbar at best. Like stripmall food out in a tiny town with no other options. We ordered lo mein, sesame chicken, fried rice and Pho. The fried rice was dry rice (not sautéed with oil and egg) with no flavor or veggies. The Lo mein was inedible. We had to throw it away. The sesame chicken had no flavor and came in a box with 3 pieces of raw broccoli. Good location, nice interior, we didn't like the food. read more

Greeted with a friendly hello and was sat at a nice, clean booth with a bench that didn't crumble and sink under my weight. I ordered the frog legs as an appetizer. The beer batter surprised me but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. A nice lemon pepper sauce on the side ramped up the flavor significantly. The legs were also perfectly fried. Nice! I ordered Moo Gai Pan snd friend ordered Happy Family. Huge qtys for the price. Listen, this place could raise their dinner plate dish prices by another $2-$3 bucks and still be low priced. I want them to stay in biz!!! Friend loved Happy Family which looked to be overloaded with beef slices. Could have been more balanced with shrimp & chic. Now for my dish. The sauce was perfect. The veggies were great. But... the chicken. It was tough. Not the velvety tender slices of white meat you'd expect. Tough. No taste. They just don't have any enthusiasm for their jobs and rebuff attempts to engage with them. I like dining out to be fun but the attitude here seems to be strictly business. Last night there were only three tables of customers but once my food was dropped off I didn't see my waitress again until time for the check. Delicious!! I got the pho dau hu rao cai which is the pho with tofu and vegetables. Nice alternative to the brisket I normally get. We started going here because our favorite Thai place in the areas closed, and I absolutely love the food, atmosphere, and the friendly staff every time! I also love the prices (especially for being in Westlake). The past two times I've had the pad Thai because it's one of the best I've had (and I travel all over), and because the portion is one for a king! They have many unique takes on dishes, and they also have pho, and other great items! We never have to wait long for additional service, the staff is so friendly, and with food this good I hope for a long and prosperous business.
