It's always been a challenge to find quality Indian / Pakistani fare in these parts; Brooklyn just doesn't have the abundance of quality establishments as we do up north (#1) and that has been a tough sell. Shandar has been around this area long enough to pique my curiosity and I knew I had to give them a shot. The first time I was extremely not-sober and succumbed to my inner desires of having abundant mounds of desi delights at my disposal sounded like a great way to end my night. After stuffing my face with some aloo paratha, plain biriyani, and curry goat, I wasn't too impressed with the flavor but it got the cravings out of the way. The last time was a free for all of various things; which meant I could order whatever I wanted for a group of 8. I went with some chana masala, palak paneer, chicken biriyani, aloo gosht, chicken korma, and some good ol keema mutter. We had a nice bundle of rice and garlic naan to go with it. Most of us found the food to be just ok and it was hard to pick a standout dish despite all the variety. The good thing was that the food was super inexpensive and while I appreciated that they had everything I ordered, I hated the fact they packed everything and then threw it in a microwave. For some items, there were sparks flying due to the tin foil, but the staff didn't seem to care too much. Love this Place, I was introduced to this hidden Gem many years ago by a Half Pakistani cousin of mine, I love their Indian/Pakistani Cuisine. I always order their "Goat Curry" along with a Plate of "Jasmine Rice" and Fresh Made to order "Naan" Bread. The restaurant itself is not fancy, but we all know that the worse looking restaurant have the best food lol. Indian pakistani, delicious, it actually is Pakistani food, but it's mostly Curry which is expected and GREAT. Pros: 1. Open late, like really late, I'm talking 3:00 AM late, I don't know when they close. 2. You can get rice and vegetable masala or channa masala for $3.00 and it'll full you. The fried fish isn't bad either, it's weighed so you get a by the pound price which works at to be cheaper than fish at any other spot. 3. Cheap: $0.50 Samosas. Food quality is very poor. Service is terrible. Food is cheap. I went in for lunch and it was completely empty, I can see why. This place SUCKS! I seen couple of old people inside. Terrible place! Yelp rating was good. That's why I went to go check it out. Maybe their sweets are good. Idk, but the food was terrible. The chicken kabab was too plain. The naan sucked because it was dry and not hot, doughy taste. The parata was high but wasn't tasty. And the shabji carrots and potato was tasteless. Only the Chana daal was okay. Everything else sucked. The service was terrible because the old lady who took my order. First brought the Chana daal and shabji and no naan or parata to eat it with . Inexpensive Pakistani fare. Get their biryani, naan, kebabs, kheer, and the okra if it's on the menu that day. The kheer (rice pudding), is crazy good. It's thick and creamy with no cardamom seeds and thick pieces of cinnamon mixed in and it's only for about $2 a box. The naan sandwich, which is a huge naan bread wrapped around chicken kebabs and salad with raita is the biggest sandwich you'll ever eat for just $2. read more

After walking past another spot on Coney Island Ave that I clearly was not supposed to be in, we settled on this spot. The first thing I see coming out of the kitchen is a steaming stack of fresh naan as tall as I am. I think I paid about five dollars for enough food (saag, lamb curry, rice, raita, et al) to feed me for three days. Very tasty and cheap. And dessert! I have been going to the restaurant next door to this one for at least 5 years. For the past 2 visits they did not have Dal. This time I decided to do some exploring and I am so glad I did! The Dal was there at the front behind the glass, the eggplant we delicious, and they gave me a free samosa and free Okra. The Samosa was a bit strong with the spiced for my taste, but the Okra was the best I have ever had. Not sure what other reviewers are complaining about, but before you pass this gem up I suggest you stop in and at least sample the goods. This will be my go to for delicious Pakistani food but I will still get the Samosa next door. read more

Madina it ain't, but this Paki taxi joint is pretty good. Still has all the steam table stuff and heaps of flavorful basmati. Also, great selection of sweets. While Madina has recently bourgied up a bit, Shandar continues to feed the livery masses with cheap, solid fare. They might look at you funny when you walk in, but the food's on the level. read more

I think they have the best tasting curry and an Naan. They are fairly inexpensive so your wallet wont go dry and their curries are amazing. Also try their Chicken tandoori. Basic and cheap Pakistani steam table food, with a little bit of variation depending on the time of day. It's extremely oily, and spicier than the Indian Curry In a Hurry-type equivalent. The samosas, pakoras, and kebabs are all cold and have to be microwaved, as far as I can tell. Mashallah, the place a couple of doors further up, is supposed to be similar except that everything is very liberally spiced ("hot" or "extra hot" to this place's "medium"). My favorite place to come eat desi food. Chicken curry with Nan will stuff you full and satisfied. The shish kebabs are not bad either. After all of that, make sure to have some kheer (rice pudding?) for dessert. Really sweet and its really enjoyable. read more

Samosa price up to .75 each, not quite as large as most but tasty. We purchased them cold to reheat at home and they were good with the dipping sauce (partial to the yogurt). Also a pound of sweets for 5.00. What a selection - guestimate is at least thirty. We tried five diffent ones and were pleased with all of them. read more

Great place 5 star customer service and food, I normally call and order and then pick it up. They have good Pakistani food and sweets.

If I could give this place half a star I would. There supposedly open 24 hours , when I got there at 11 they barely had anything left. They charged me full price for curry chicken which by the way was a few pieces of bone that was left in the tray. The service sucked, one person was taking out my food and there was a line behind me and the rest of the four workers sat down and ate. That's not a good business move,I wouldn't have my customers wait while I ate. I bought some lamb curry, that sucked as well as the bryani! Never again will I go there and by the way if you're not they're own kind of people (Indian) they're not too nice.
