Surprised by the 3.4 star average here, this restaurant is definitely much better than that! The food is authentically Shanghainese (as confirmed by my Shanghai born and raised parents). They offer some uniquely Shanghainese dishes that are hard to find: eel, boil fried baby shrimp, radish pancakes, 马兰头, and more. The ones we tried were very good each time. While secondary, the space is also clean and inviting and the service is super courteous, making for a pleasant experience. The more well known Shanghainese items like pan fried pork buns 生煎包 are decent, but perhaps because more places offer these, I've had better elsewhere. Will definitely be back with my relatives whenever they have a craving for the food of their childhood

Really enjoyed the food here! The stir fried shredded eel with oil and bamboo was my favorite -- so flavorful and delicious. (Classic Shanghai dish) The duck was super tender, and the marinated gluten with dried vegetables was a great appetizer. Would definitely come back!

I got their special combo with stewed pork belly noodle and Shanghai pan fried pork buns (up-charge) + a can of coke. The noodles were salty but the pork buns were absolutely delicious. Not the best I've had in my life but really decent for a quick lunch with no hassle. Parking is no issue as it is a large lot shared with other restaurants and stores. Staff was friendly. Tables were clean.

Wanted to try the place after reading the reviews. Service was great and the waiter was helpful to answer my questions. Had a cafe like vibe with open door and plenty of light. Onion noodles: simple but so good as a base to a meal. Vermicelli in light green onion oil. It's actually brownish in color due to the cooked green onion being brown and maybe oils? Will be ordering again. 5 stars. Chopped greens and bean curd: flavor is surprisingly good. Seems like a blend of veggies with bean curds but not sure. 4 stars. Smoked fish: cold dish. Seemed like the fish pieces were deep deep fried with a sweet savory seasoning. More sweet than savory. I thought it was ok but the skin holds the oil and these pieces did not taste good. 3 stars. Sautéed shrimp: meh. 3 stars. Taste exactly what it is. Osmanthus cake: 4 stars. Gosh. I ate a little and thought what is so special? Then the taste slowly change to a light sweet taste in your moth that makes your wanting more. It's dangerous as it is not too sweet and just makes you want more.

We tried the duck blood noodle . It has spongy tofu , very thin slices of bamboo shoot , heart tasty duck gizzards, many duck blood with glass noodle in a very hot soup . Side order is two big pieces of stewed pork belly . It is good deal for $5 . I love the soup here is always super hot ! Good customer service . Ambient is relax and casual . I like the combination options on the menu . You can choose different type of noodles with flavor , then add a side dish for $5-$7 . All the food taste great !

Delicious as always, just wanted to provide updated menu pics. The Sheng Jian Bao were wonderful and the different soups hit the spot. Prices have risen by $2-3 since the last review I wrote 10 months ago, truly a sign of the times... :(. No way we're giving it up though

Decided to try the Pan Fried Pork Buns from this place again. It's been over a year since I ordered from here. Have yet found another spot that can order these togo with ease. Have yet tried the other food, but maybe sometime in the near future? Will see.

Very authentic shanghainese food. Reminds me of home. Super friendly service. I hope this spot will open for a very long time! It will be our go to :)

First visit since the rebrand and happy to say I enjoyed my experience much more. The service was great, cleanliness of the restaurant has improved greatly. The food was tasty and portions were decent.

Great experience as always. Xiao long bao and steam rice cake are surprisingly delicious. Green bean drink is also a plus.

在湾区那么多年吃到的最正宗的上海菜,小笼包皮薄多汁,生煎包外脆爆汁,炸猪排脆而不腻,并且有家乡版的辣酱油!雪菜肉丝面更是没话说,加了个辣肉浇头! Amazing Shanghai restaurant approved by Shanghainese people!

"Found this NEW restaurant on GROUPON . Took my son there . Spot's cozy and spotless , owner was chill and helpful . Food = SUPER DELICIOUS ! Hoping they get more customers soon. Portions were good . Loved the spicy pork noodles , tonkatsu , Shanghai pan fried bun . This place is a gem - we'll def be back !"

Everything here is good. My favorite is pan fried dumpling, brisket noodle soup, and tofu skin. My kids love the food here. Very child friendly.

Probably the best Sheng Jiang Bao place in the South Bay. Good meat to bun ratio with lots of juice. Other dishes are not worth mentioning.

Mushroom with Gluten Noodle - 4/5 The mushroom and gluten were well prepared, though the flavor was a bit on the mild side. The noodles were the thin type, probably just standard packaged noodles. Shanghai Style Fried Prawns - 3/5 There are two options: one with regular prawns, and one with river shrimp. We chose the river shrimp. The overall flavor was much milder than the authentic version--it lacked sweetness, and the dish didn't have the rich red and glossy look it usually should. Bean Curd with Vegetables - 5/5 This dish was a pleasant surprise, capturing the taste of spring--very light and refreshing. Lightly drizzled with sesame oil and chilled for a while, every bite felt fresh and cleansing, with a lingering aroma. Shanghai Veggie and Pork Rice Cake - 5/5 Highly recommended. The rice cakes were stir-fried to a perfect soft and chewy texture. The combination of vegetables and shredded pork brought out a deliciously savory flavor.

Service was attentive with refilling water but I had to ask multiple times for more napkins which got a little annoying. The restaurant also got really busy as it got closer to peak lunch time so I imagine that played a role. One thing that kind of put me off was my water cup looking dirty or having something in it. Hard to say what it was but it made me hesitant to keep drinking from it. I think my rating would be closer to 3.5 stars if I could do half stars because of their service and cleanliness. When asking for the napkins the second time, I saw their waiters cleaning a table then seeing me ask for napkins again, he immediately grabbed them to give me with his hands that just picked up others' trash

Staff are very nice, reasonable price for the large portions served. Reason why I did not rate 5-stars is not the food quality, it is some of the frequent customers that come in groups that are SOOOOOH loud, obnoxious, combative, not sure if they ate the meal because they were screaming conversations the entire time while I was trying to eat lunch. I had to take my plate outside table to get away from the noise pollution of 6-8 "Mad Mother-In-Laws" on a rampage. Restaurant staff did not intervene, avoid conflict, avoid losing customers, I guess this is normal everyday behavior for the infamous "dama" (大妈) in their restaurant or anywhere else for that matter. So, my suggestion is, avoid lunch hour/prime dinner hours, order food, go outside to eat or take out to enjoy at home, nearby park . Food is great! Some of the customer groups (i.e. like straight off a tour bus) are challenging to endure. Another option, bring high quality noise-cancelling headphones, eat/enjoy quietly if you encounter the "dama" experience...
