There are so many new restaurants in this plaza. I came here with my husband for lunch, and a few people were already dining inside, which made me think the place might be somewhat popular. You're greeted in Chinese when you walk in, and no one speaks English in the restaurant, so if you don't speak Chinese, communication might be a bit tricky. That said, they do have a picture menu you can point to when ordering, which helps. My husband--who is also Chinese--randomly picked the first item on the menu, chose the "spicy" flavor, and added a side of extra noodles. He honestly had no idea what he ordered! FOOD: The broth had a sour undertone, and although it was labeled spicy, we found it pretty mild (we usually handle spicy food well). The noodles were way too soft for my liking--so soft, in fact, I almost choked slurping them down! There was no chew or bounce to them at all, which I personally prefer. The cold sliced beef was the highlight--flavorful and a great way to reset the palate between bites. The extra noodles turned out to be a nice little hack; I didn't have to order a separate bowl of soup, and it was just enough to fill me up. We noticed that Cloudland had available seating while most of the restaurants around it all had huge queues waiting out front, so we decided to give them a try. Despite ample available tables, they wanted to seat us outside. We didn't really mind at the time since it was a warm day and we were hungry and just eager to get our grub on. While they were quick to take our order and bring out the food, it was really hard to flag anyone during the meal as our table lacked several items. Most notably spoons in order to drink the noodle soup. Additionally, I had to go inside at the end of the meal to pay for our check as noone came back out to check on us. The menu here is pretty limited as far as main entrées go. There are only about a handful of main dishes to choose from, which I feel we didn't appreciate as much being unfamiliar with the regional cuisine. I ordered the Single Cooked Rice Noodle Soup, which comes with a pretty decent level of spiciness. So I would recommend asking if they have a non-spicey option if you do not enjoy a more intense heat. My wife opted for the Cold Rice Noodles with Chicken Shreds. We should have definitely looked up the pictures first, because it was not at all what we expected. Overall, we felt the dishes were ok. I ordered the spicy beef rice noodle set, which was supposed to come with some cold side dishes. But they only brought the noodles! The side dishes didn't show up until 10 minutes after we'd already finished eating, and only after we asked -- they just grabbed them straight from the fridge. Even when we wanted to pay, we had to wait another 10 minutes. Still no water cups the entire time. The food was nothing special either. We asked for one mild and one spicy noodle, but both bowls come with some chili spicy sauce on top , tasted exactly the same. The beef on top was kind of cold too. Haven't paid a visit for a long time. Good part: the main bowl has become a pretty hearty bowl of noodles, more noodles than before. Bad part: you have to ask to not mix the ingredients, which doesn't taste fresh when bought to you after mixing. The chicken slices tasted especially bland, doesn't even look nor taste like chicken. The amount of meat seemed to even have decreased from the original already small portions. The broth is also not feeling as authentic as before, less thick and flavor. They were so busy on a Sunday night that they sold out of noodles and had to close shop early. People continued coming in to ask if they could order but the business owner had to turn them away. Good Yunnan food with the most amazing homemade chili sauce. You really can't compare the price for a bowl of noodles against, say, that of pho. The origin of the dish is from an old fable about a wife carrying lunch to her husband who labors away in the mountains. Since she had to walk far to the mountains (across the bridge), the food would always get cold by the time her husband gets it. She thought up a way to carry the soup and the noodles separately during her journey, and the oil in the soup would keep it hot. She then mix the soup and adds noodles and some meat (they're poor so there wasn't a lot of it) once she arrives so she gets to watch her husband enjoy a hot meal. Anyway, Yunnan is an ethnically diverse region in China rich in its own culture and bioecology. I'd recommend this place if you're open to try new flavors of Chinese cuisine. I liked the fried milk and the chicken goes well with the chili sauce. The Yunnan restaurants in China would have fried silkworms but obviously it's not available here. Also this doesn't scale like mass produced pho. You assemble the dish after they give you the raw ingredients. Should be the best most delicate noodle soup you have ever had. Handmade noodles. Broth isn't the normal boil in water bones broth. Should have a more delicate/intense flavor. They use a Yunaan steamer to make the chicken soup. This technique produces a different soup than the standard technique of boiling soup in water over a stove. Takes 4 hours where the steam is concentrated and sent through high pressure for 4h. Like a mini pressure pot. Very chickeny flavor in the chicken soup. Once they are sold out for the day there is no more. Noodles are all handmade. Delicious melt in mouth texture. They compose the noodle soup in front of you to demonstrate the freshness. Low reviews from people who don't know what they are ordering. They don't use MSG in their chicken soup contrary to what another reviewer claims. If you like Panda Express you won't like the food here. The food here has a strong flavor profile but it's quite overpriced and the noodles were a bit too soft and slippery for my liking. We ordered the crossing-bridge rice noodle, single cooked rice noodle soup, cold rice noodles with chicken shreds, and steaming pot chicken. The crossing bridge noodle broth is really flavorful while light but the flavor didn't transfer to the noodles at all. They also place raw ingredients into the soup in front of you, which doesn't really let the dish soak in the entire depthness of the broth's flavor. The single cooked noodle soup is a numbing spicy which dominated the entire flavor - I couldn't really taste much else. The steaming pot chicken is advertised as a mini dish and they weren't joking..the bowl was so tiny and it was mostly sticky rice. The chicken and rice were also super earthy and tasted strongly of peanut. The cold rice noodles were the redeeming dish! It was sweet, sour and a little spicy and the different flavors melded together really well. I love to come here for lunch with my coworkers! It's a place I crave often if u want hot noodle soup! The portion is pretty big and I end up sharing with a friend! This place only has 10 tables varying in big and small so you might want to consider that when coming in! Sometimes there's a wait sometimes there isn't! It's a hit or miss! I tried ordering the combo $17.49 (noodles with sides) but I honestly don't think it's worth it! It's best to just order noodles $13.99 and a side dish - portions are bigger and you get to choose what u want only couple of dollars extra. Once again the best ones I had are lotus roots, potato slices, and spicy beef slices! The special thing about these noodles is that they mix all the ingredients in front of you! The wait is a bit slow so don't expect it to be something fast! I came on a super hot day the high is 95 degrees and the AC was not on! For a place serving super hot noodle soup, AC is a must. First of all, they charge extra for the containers they give you if you order their signature dish bringing the cost to $16.50 for just this one dish. A hefty price to pay for such average Asian noodles. I would say that this could be shareable for some because it is quite large. The other issue is that the chicken is full, I mean completely full of bones. Are you really gonna charge me $6.99 for this tiny tray of flavored bones?! Pretty annoyed at that why the noodles were a solid 3 stars good but nothing really to write about that stood out. On the menu they even said that there was some quail egg in it but there was no quail egg to be found in my bowl of soup. They definitely skimped on ingredients and did not add everything they said they would on the menu. Ultimately the rice noodles were soft and well maintained even after bringing them home so I will give them that.
