I would recommend i-shanghai if you're craving din tai fung dupe! They have a variety of authentic Shanghai style dimsum that's great for doing family style. FYI~the restaurant is on the smaller side so be prepared for a wait on a Saturday night if you don't arrive right at opening at 5pm. Out of all the dishes, my favorite was the pan fried pork dumpling. It was steaming hot with a sweet soup inside, and the bottom was nice and crispy. The XLB was also really yummy!

Favorite shanghainese restaurant in the bay! I loved the pan fried dumplings and we also got the crab sauce noodles and dumplings. They were very flavorful and the dumpling wrappers were thin but they didn't break easily. I liked the fried string beans and the pork ribs as well!

It's been yearssss since we last dined at I-Shanghai Delight. So many new dumpling spots have popped up since then. I wanted to go back to see if it was still the same. We came on a Saturday right at 11am when they opened. We were the first ones there so we got seated right away. Instead of showing us to a table, the server just nudged his head and waved his hand to sit down. No smile, nothing. The restaurant was dirty, run down and cramped..as we remembered. To order, we marked down what we wanted in a paper menu. We ordered.. PORK DUMPLINGS (8) $12.95 -aka xiao long bao. The tops of the dumplings were a bit thick. 4/5* PAN-FRIED PORK BUN (6) $12.95 - Wished the bottoms were crispier but at least they weren't super greasy. 4/5* POTSTICKERS (6) $12.95 -it had a sweetness to it like sugar was sprinkled on it but the dumpling skin was nice and chewy. 4/5* FRIED SCALLION PANCAKE (2) $8.95 -deep fried and oily but oh so good. 4/5* FRIED NOODLES SHANGHAI STYLE $13.45 -noodles had a nice chewiness to them, the veggies were still crisp. 4/5* All the dumplings had a strange sweetness to it which was kinda odd.. but we still enjoyed everything. By the time we left around 11:50am, the restaurant was packed and there were a few parties waiting for tables outside. Would we come again? Probably..but only if we were in the area.

I've been here multiple times and this is still my fav XLB in the bay. The wrapper is thin (though seems slightly thicker this time than in the past) and the filling is incredibly juicy and umami with the perfect amount of flavoring. It's amazing even without the vinegar. I seriously don't know how they do it but it's absolute Shanghainese perfection. Aside from that we also got the small wonton casserole and red bean pancake. The wonton soup is classic and comforting, and the red bean sesame pancake is delicious. It's pretty big and does take a long time to cook (~30 min) but totally worth it. The only bad thing I've had here in the past was the eel, which did not taste fresh; not sure if it was a fluke... Lastly, service is surprisingly warm for a small and busy restaurant. Highly recommend!

Got here at 6 right before peak hours, service was prompt and good. Love the personal photo of Shanghai scenic areas and some old school items on display. Waitress seems to be overwhelmed once full house. Place is always packed, so don't expect service, her tone reflects stress. As for the food: Pan fried Bun -生煎 10 out of 10 Soup dumpling - 蟹粉湯包 10 out of 10 Once is enough I will stick to XLB 小籠包 Shanghai stir fried rice cake - 炒年糕 8 out of 10 Too wet for my taste. Bamboo soup with pork - 腌笃鲜 6 out of 10 Too salty 咸 nothing 鮮 about it.

Crab roe seasonal dishes are back. You can get them with rice or noodles, and they also have soup dumplings with crab roe. I liked the little crab bowl presentation. My favorites were the osmanthus rice cake (I really enjoyed its chewy texture and the light osmanthus flavor), and the pan-fried pork buns (crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside).

I-Shanghai is my new favorite local spot for Chinese food. There is something here for everyone. Being vegan, finding veggie dumplings is hit or miss but not only does I-shanghai have vegan steamed dumplings, they have vegan XLB! Of course they have all the typical offerings of XLB too. One cool dish to highlight is their crab soup dumpling. The thing is a monster! It's so big it comes in it's own steam basket an a boba straw for you to extract the soup. The menu offers a great variety of Shanghainese food to keep you coming back to try other dishes. In our regular rotation for 2 (vegan + meat eater) -Vegan XLB -shiu mai -scallion noodles -scallion pancake -pork dumplings -sautee green beans The service here is incredibly fast & efficient. During peak hours, you're given a menu and order form to fill out while you wait. Once your number is called, the maître d' confirms your order item by item and sends that to the kitchen after seating you. The first dish is out within 5 minutes of being seated. Even though things move fast, the restaurant doesn't feel rushed. You just get your food quickly which is awesome. The interior is nicely decorated with frames photos of Shanghai and like most (more causal) asian restaurants, there are flyers of current specials posted throughout. The food is well made and the service is friendly. Their plates and bowls are stylish. If you order the crab roe, it comes in a clay crab-shaped baking dish. It's all aesthetically pleasing.

My friend recommended this to me and I got the chance to try it out with a colleague of mine from work. [[ Location ]] It's right off the 880 freeway stevenson blvd exit and is in a relatively "new-ish" area of Fremont that was rebuilt to bring in new restaurants/businesses. Ample amount of parking so it shouldn't be difficult. The only con I would say is that the main sign is in Chinese so trying to find "i-Shanghai Delight" might be difficult. Just trust your GPS tracker of choice. They do have the English sign on the window but it is very hard to see from the car. [[ Food ]] I think this is where this place really shines. The food is just really delicious overall and they have so much variety. You can get XLB, regular Chinese dishes, dim sum, etc. I tried to follow what was recommended to me by my colleague and got the following: 1.) Green Beans 2.) Pan Fried Bun 3.) Crab Roe Pork Dumpling 4.) Signature Crab Roe Mixed Noodles. Ordering is kind of weird as they have a ton of dishes on a sheet of paper which you can manually check off but some dishes were split out into a main menu and non-connected pages. I wish everything was just on one menu and maybe have a "special" menu for rotation to make looking at all the choices easier. The Pan Fried Bun is on the SWEET side so just a word of caution since I prefer them to be more on the saltier side like at Special Noodle in Milpitas or M Dumpling in Fremont. I also felt like they were also on the smaller side compared to the ones you get at the other two places I mentioned. Crab Roe Pork Dumpling was really good/juicy and rivals some of the best XLB I've had. Signature Crab Roe Mixed Noodles has beautiful presentation and make sure to mix the buttery crab sauce into the noodles immediately and mix so all the flavor can seep in and the noodles can stay separated.

Located in a shopping plaza with lots of Asian options... there is a wait and they won't seat you until everyone is there. But it is worth the wait! They do give you a menu so you can start marking what you want. Most of the items especially the xiao long bao are amazing. It has a slightly sweet soup and the perfect skin around it where it is thin but doesn't break when you gently pick it up with your chopsticks. I especially enjoyed the creaminess of the crab roe noodles too. Unfortunately, the Shanghai noodles were a miss as they were too salty to enjoy. Hoping to come back here to try all of their other dishes too!

One of the few Shanghainese restaurants that offer the pan fried buns and they are delicious! The bun isn't too thick and it's filled with soup inside! The crab xiao long bao was delicious as well! The skin isn't super thin but the inside was filled with soup! My least favorite was probably the beef noodle soup because the soup tasted a little bland. I would definitely come back again!

Came here with my family for a family lunch before going to run errands! The service was good - there was a short wait, but they gave us the menus and we ordered as we waited! The ambiance is also nice, decorated with a few Chinese-style decor on the walls and plenty of TV entertainment. For food, we ordered their crab roe noodles, small wonton soup, soup and rice (small), and shrimp pan fried dumplings! The food was quite delicious and very flavorful. The soup was not too salty and the dumplings were so crispy! I can see myself coming back again to try new dishes with my family :)

(Jan 2026) Rice topped with crab meat

===TL;DR=== - Rice topped with crab meat - Signature crab roe mixed noodles - Steamed crab roe soup dumpling - Pan fried pork bun ===TMI=== First and foremost: "To join the waiting list, please take a number at the front desk, Thank you." They got crab roe mixed noodles and I don't have to go all the way to New York for them? Sign me up. They have a cute interior showing throwbacks from Shanghai as decor. Their crab roe noodle was bomb! Good portion of crab roe paired with chewy and bouncy noodles. I loved how the crab roe just clings onto the noodles nicely so you get a good bite every time. It does feel a little heavy towards the end so the vinegar helps cut those flavors up. Otherwise, best to enjoy when it's still hot imo! The rice with crab meat was also flavorful and hearty. However, it does feel like it's more of a crab roe dish than crab meat base so don't expect a lot of crab meat. I think it really just boils down to your preference of carb choice when this is compared to the crab roe noodle dish. The pan fried pork bun was lovely! Good size, juicy and the filling was well balanced! Highly recommend it! The crab roe soup dumpling didn't blow me away. If anything, it felt like a hyped item since the concept to drink from the straw is cute. Otherwise, I can pass. Good to try it at least once tho. They have an extensive menu so hope to come back to try more one day! For a Sunday afternoon, line moved quick and food came out quick as well! Lastly, their crab roe items don't seem like it was on their regular menu. Instead, seems like it's their signature items so when ordering, just let the worker know and they'll write down your order for you.

We came here many times, and the foods are delicious as always. We love the chicken and sweet and sour pork ribs and some others.

The overall flavor was much milder than the authentic version--it lacked sweetness, and the dish didn't have the rich red and glossy look it usually should.
