    Preparing the dumplings
    Frances C.

Very impressed with their latest dishes added to the menu Looks like they made a great come back with services and great foods The crab roe noodles was excellent and filling packed with thick and heavy sauce and lots of crab roe. It gave an umami taste and one of its kind. The crab roe soup dumpling was delicious drinking soup with a straw. It was fun. The place is small so expect a wait and may need to share tables.

Food: We ordered the 醃篤鮮, scallion pancake, 馬蘭頭, and crab steamed soup buns. The crab soup buns were the highlight--large, with freshly kneaded wrappers, plenty of flavorful broth, and a delicious, distinct crab flavor. The scallion pancake was a bit on the dry side. The 馬蘭頭 was fresh but could be less salty and would benefit from a little more sesame oil to enhance its aroma and flavor. Service: Service was okay. Ambience: The restaurant is relatively small with many tables, making the seating feel quite cramped and tightly spaced.

Best Shengjian Bao in town! Hands down the most incredible pan-fried soup dumplings I've had in a long time. The bottoms are perfectly crisp and golden, while the wrapper remains wonderfully soft. Inside, the pork filling is rich and flavorful, packed with piping-hot, savory broth.

Xiao Long Bao was rich and soupy. Perfectly done and juicy. Definetly rhe type of soup dumplings I prefer. Staff are also very attentive and kind. I also really like the noodles as they are very tender and flavorful! I recommend!

I would recommend i-shanghai if you're craving din tai fung dupe! They have a variety of authentic Shanghai style dimsum that's great for doing family style. FYI~the restaurant is on the smaller side so be prepared for a wait on a Saturday night if you don't arrive right at opening at 5pm. Out of all the dishes, my favorite was the pan fried pork dumpling. It was steaming hot with a sweet soup inside, and the bottom was nice and crispy. The XLB was also really yummy!

Really enjoyed our meal at Ala Shanghai. The ingredients were very fresh and everything we ordered tasted great. The white cut chicken was tender and flavorful, and the shrimp were fresh, plump, and perfectly cooked. The other dishes were also well seasoned and nicely prepared. Overall, the food quality was excellent and the flavors felt authentic and well balanced. Definitely a great spot for Shanghai cuisine in Fremont. We'll be back!

Just flew in town and my sister took me here knowing I like Shanghai food. It is the most authentic Shanghai dumpling I have ever tried. The egg roll skin is thin and crispy filled w moist vegetables filling. Yummy. Good find.

It's been yearssss since we last dined at I-Shanghai Delight. So many new dumpling spots have popped up since then. I wanted to go back to see if it was still the same. We came on a Saturday right at 11am when they opened. We were the first ones there so we got seated right away. Instead of showing us to a table, the server just nudged his head and waved his hand to sit down. No smile, nothing. The restaurant was dirty, run down and cramped..as we remembered. To order, we marked down what we wanted in a paper menu. We ordered.. PORK DUMPLINGS (8) $12.95 -aka xiao long bao. The tops of the dumplings were a bit thick. 4/5* PAN-FRIED PORK BUN (6) $12.95 - Wished the bottoms were crispier but at least they weren't super greasy. 4/5* POTSTICKERS (6) $12.95 -it had a sweetness to it like sugar was sprinkled on it but the dumpling skin was nice and chewy. 4/5* FRIED SCALLION PANCAKE (2) $8.95 -deep fried and oily but oh so good. 4/5* FRIED NOODLES SHANGHAI STYLE $13.45 -noodles had a nice chewiness to them, the veggies were still crisp. 4/5* All the dumplings had a strange sweetness to it which was kinda odd.. but we still enjoyed everything. By the time we left around 11:50am, the restaurant was packed and there were a few parties waiting for tables outside. Would we come again? Probably..but only if we were in the area.

Terrific food, the onion oil noodle and the rice cake pork chop are very authentic! Atmosphere of this restaurant is also great

Got here at 6 right before peak hours, service was prompt and good. Love the personal photo of Shanghai scenic areas and some old school items on display. Waitress seems to be overwhelmed once full house. Place is always packed, so don't expect service, her tone reflects stress. As for the food: Pan fried Bun -生煎 10 out of 10 Soup dumpling - 蟹粉湯包 10 out of 10 Once is enough I will stick to XLB 小籠包 Shanghai stir fried rice cake - 炒年糕 8 out of 10 Too wet for my taste. Bamboo soup with pork - 腌笃鲜 6 out of 10 Too salty 咸 nothing 鮮 about it.

Terrible service , horrible dish , the dishes they serve are instant noodle and rice , I SHanghai treats us---customers like idiot Please be aware !! CRAB ROE PASTE NOODLE & RICE you may easily find in the local supermarket for only $5-$7 but I SHANGHAI charge us $25-$30 excuse me , these are instant noodle and rice OK!!!! We , USA !! Do not have such crab therefore how I shanghai to cook such dish !! BE AWARE!! The waiter & waitress also bribing us with a free dish to leave a 5-star review!! NO WAY!! ITS ALL A SCAM !!

Crab roe seasonal dishes are back. You can get them with rice or noodles, and they also have soup dumplings with crab roe. I liked the little crab bowl presentation. My favorites were the osmanthus rice cake (I really enjoyed its chewy texture and the light osmanthus flavor), and the pan-fried pork buns (crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside).

    Jennifer Y.

Absolutely incredible Shanghainese food! The soup dumplings (XLB) are super juicy with paper-thin skin, and the Shanghai pan-fried buns (sheng jian bao) are cooked to perfection--crispy on the bottom and flavorful inside. Service was quick and welcoming. Will definitely be coming back for more!

Mushroom with Gluten Noodle - 4/5 The mushroom and gluten were well prepared, though the flavor was a bit on the mild side. The noodles were the thin type, probably just standard packaged noodles. Shanghai Style Fried Prawns - 3/5 There are two options: one with regular prawns, and one with river shrimp. We chose the river shrimp. The overall flavor was much milder than the authentic version--it lacked sweetness, and the dish didn't have the rich red and glossy look it usually should. Bean Curd with Vegetables - 5/5 This dish was a pleasant surprise, capturing the taste of spring--very light and refreshing. Lightly drizzled with sesame oil and chilled for a while, every bite felt fresh and cleansing, with a lingering aroma. Shanghai Veggie and Pork Rice Cake - 5/5 Highly recommended. The rice cakes were stir-fried to a perfect soft and chewy texture. The combination of vegetables and shredded pork brought out a deliciously savory flavor.

When I arrived to pick up my order, the woman working there was extremely rude and her customer service was terrible. I politely asked for some hot sauce, and in front of everyone she responded, "Your soup is already spicy. You want more hot sauce?" I explained that the wonton soup wasn't spicy and I wanted hot sauce for that. She then told me that the hot sauce is only for people who order dumplings, which was honestly ridiculous and came across as extremely cheap. She eventually handed me two tiny containers of hot sauce with an attitude. When I got home, I opened the beef noodle soup and there were literally only three tiny pieces of beef in the entire order. I called the restaurant to ask about it, and instead of trying to resolve the issue, she became even more rude. She told me, "How many pieces do you expect me to put in there? You got a good deal, buy one get one free." She then said her boss told her to only put three pieces of beef in the soup and that the soup they make is "not just for you." The fact that I received a promotion through DoorDash should not mean the quality or portion of my food should be reduced. If you're offering a buy-one-get-one-free promotion, customers should still receive a proper order. Between the horrible customer service, extremely small portions, poor-tasting food, dirty-looking restaurant, and unpleasant atmosphere, I will never come back here again and would not recommend this place to anyone.

Everything was delicious and when you can satisfy a craving...everything just hits different What really made the meal memorable though, was the hospitality. The owner was incredibly warm and attentive, checking in on every table throughout the evening. At one point, she noticed our minced pork rice looked a little light on the gravy (something we hadn't even noticed ourselves). Without us saying a word, she headed back to the kitchen and returned with an extra serving of the pork topping to make sure it was just right. As the dinner rush slowed, she spent time chatting with us about our recent trip to Taiwan, sharing stories about Taiwanese food and what makes the cuisine so special. By the end of the meal, it didn't feel like we were dining at a restaurant--it felt like we were having dinner at an auntie's house, enjoying great food and even better conversation.
