    Sampan porridge

I love sampan porridge and turnip cake with XO sauce here. 5/5 and will come here when I'm craving them. Sampan porridge ($13) is so creamy with a lot of ingredients, definitely add the green onions and crushed peanuts as well as white pepper and salt for more flavor. Turnip cake with XO sauce ($8) is also delicious here, it's so crunchy on the outside and tender in the inside. Love it!! Those two are must haves. We also tried chicken feet and special spare rib rice which were just ok, wouldn't order those again. Chicken feet were a bit lean and spare rib rice unfortunately didn't taste 'special' to me, even if it took 30 mins to make haha. Wasn't bad though and it's very affordable here. No frills restaurant. Good service. Good prices.

Mingkee Deli is such a gem in Union City! I ordered the rice roll, a clay pot, and a Hong Kong milk tea, and everything was spot on. The rice roll was silky smooth with just the right amount of savory soy sauce, the clay pot came out bubbling hot with rich flavor and perfectly cooked ingredients, and the Hong Kong milk tea was bold, creamy, and not overly sweet--the way it should be. The portions were generous, the prices very reasonable, the service was to the point, and the food had that comforting, home-style taste you can't find everywhere. The shop itself has that cozy, casual vibe where you know the focus is all about the food. If you're craving authentic Hong Kong-style eats in the East Bay, Mingkee Deli is definitely worth the stop. I'll be back to try more from their menu for sure!

A Promising Spot, But the Flavor Fell Short. I was really hoping Ming Kee would be a great new discovery for a traditional Chinese breakfast. The place itself is very promising--it's impeccably clean and organized inside, and the staff had my takeout order ready to go right when I arrived. They definitely know how to make a great Stewed Beef Tendon Rice Roll; the flavors were rich, and the tendon was perfectly tender, which shows they have potential in the kitchen. Unfortunately, that was the only dish that really stood out. The congee we ordered was quite bland, and the texture of the plain rice rolls became hard and stale just minutes after leaving the restaurant. The turnip cake was a bit flavorless. It's a shame because the service and cleanliness are top-notch, but based on this visit, the overall flavor just wasn't there to justify a higher rating.

Mingkee Deli is a pretty good traditional Chinese breakfast restaurant. Service is okay, I noticed that most don't speak English but we are still able to get by to communicate our needs. The restaurant is pretty small but they are usually quick to get out your food. I usually get the brisket rice noodle roll, either the BBQ pork or shrimp and beef rice noodle roll, preserved egg and pork porridge with fried donut, and the turnip cake with XO sauce. The rice noodle rolls are very soft and thin, which I don't mind. The turnip cake with XO sauce I'd probably prefer without the XO sauce in my own preference, but I like how they always come out piping hot and crispy. The brisket rice noodle roll is my favorite kind to get out of the rice noodle rolls, but the second time I got it, it did taste a bit different where it seemed to lack some flavor compared to the first time, but was fixable with some added soy sauce and chili oil. Here, you do have to ask for those condiments, as they do not have it on the table. Overall, I'd keep coming back and with the added soy sauce and chili oil, they make it a whole lot better.

This Restaurant has good comfort cantonese food. There are QR codes on the table for ordering. They do have a menu if needed. The service was quick and friendly. Food was good for a quick lunch and arrived timely. The small restaurant is located in a outdoor mall with plenty of parking shared by all the businesses. Will be back to try more dishes.

Came here with family so we were able to try a spread of menu items. Most foods were standard, nothing wowed me. But if you're looking to try something a little different, try the milk pudding! Here's what we ordered: Pork/thousand year egg jook: they are generous on the egg, but the over flavor was a bit bland Sampan jook: a good variety of goodies in here. Somehow though, the flavors didn't blend too well. Bbq pork rice noodle: good amount of bbq pork and noodle. I wished the noodle was a little thicker, but I guess that's just the style of this restaurant. Yao tiao: crispy outside, soft and fluffy inside. Braise beef: beef was tender, flavor was good. There were veggies in it too. XO turnip cake: looked better online. The XO flavor was a little lacking. Not a fav. Milk pudding: served cold, silky and smooth. Not too sweet. Would order this again. Overall, meal was ok. You order through the QR code. So service was minimal standard.

This review is for delivery order of rice roll. Got the beef & pork chang fen & were very good: silky & thin wrap, beef & pork were both tender & silky, the meat were thinly sliced chunks instead of ground meat. IMO The rice rolls are comparable to Yinji chang feng, Joe's rice roll in flushing, Hei Hei rice roll in Vancouver Richmond, and def better than any dimsum restaurants.

    Pork jook. No flavor.

I had a craving for jook. I was the only one there at 9:00 am. Had the pork and thousand year egg. And chicken feet. Service was quick. The bowls they use are metal and get really hot. I didn't realize and dropped it cuz it was sooo hot and dumped half of the bowl on me and the table. After cleaning up. They never helped. I ate most of the jook which had no flavor. It had an egg cut up and some pork. I had to ask for soy sauce to add to the porridge. The feet were just okay. I don't think whoever is cooking tastes the food. So disappointing. Not sure how they stay in business.

Today I originally planned to try the two most famous Malaysian dishes at Mingala Restaurant -- prawn noodles and char kway teow. Who would have thought they're closed every Monday! Feeling disappointed (and a little hungry), I ended up looking for a quick lunch inside the same Chinese shopping plaza, Lion Market Shopping Center. In the end, I chose a place called Mingkee Newark. At first, I just wanted something simple -- a plate of steamed rice rolls and a bowl of congee -- and then head home. But wow... once you start eating, you'll know the difference between ordinary and outstanding.I first ordered a lotus-leaf steamed rice with preserved-vegetable pork patty and a cup of iced stone-ground soy milk.I've never been a fan of preserved vegetables, and I usually never choose dishes made with them. But after trying this lotus-leaf preserved-vegetable pork patty rice, it completely changed my relationship with preserved vegetables. The moment I opened the lotus leaf, the fragrance of the leaf filled the air. The very first bite -- with the subtle lotus-leaf aroma and the freshly hand-chopped pork patty mixed with preserved vegetables -- was simply beyond words. Then I took a sip of the iced stone-ground soy milk and immediately knew it was totally different from the kind you buy at a supermarket. The rich soybean aroma reminded me of the fresh soy milk sold by street vendors when I was a child. After finishing that dish, I was already about 70% full. But then the server recommended one of their signature items -- chive and pork pan-fried dumplings. She told me they only make the dumplings after customers place an order, and then pan-fry them fresh, so they're especially good. Since there were only four dumplings per order, I decided to try them. When the dumplings arrived, I could already smell the aroma. With the very first bite, I knew right away -- the bottom was nicely pan-fried and slightly crispy, the wrapper was thin but not broken, and the filling was well-balanced and full of chive fragrance. They were truly delicious. At that point, I was almost 90% full. Then the server mentioned that they also have a very famous dessert called Shunde double-skin milk pudding. So... of course, I ordered one bowl. The Shunde double-skim milk pudding was not overly sweet, but very milky, smooth, and incredibly soft. After finishing the dessert, I practically had to hold my stomach on the way home.In the end, I even bought three bowls of cold Shunde double-skim milk pudding to go, to share with my daughter and Maria as tonight's after-dinner dessert.I highly recommend this place -- Mingkee Newark.

Came here for a quick lunch. Tried their shrimp and youtiao. The chang fen here is cooked all in one sheet and covers the whole dish. As a result, the actual portion of rice pancake is quite generous and it is more solid with more of a bite than other places (where it is more gooey). Their sauce is lighter and less sweet than usual. They don't serve it on the side or with any additional on the table. Super yummy and wish we had more sauce!

Some chairs were taller than others, carpet needs to be replaced, its in desperate need of a deep cleaning, refresh and remodel. The food was just OK. Some stuff was overcooked and our fish dish and some of the crab was a little under cooked, while some dishes were swimming in oil. Between 8 adults and 2 kids, we had about 9-10 dishes with lots of leftovers (noodles) to take home. I had to take my plate outside table to get away from the noise pollution of 6-8 "Mad Mother-In-Laws" on a rampage. Restaurant staff did not intervene, avoid conflict, avoid losing customers, I guess this is normal everyday behavior for the infamous "dama" (大妈) in their restaurant or anywhere else for that matter. So, my suggestion is, avoid lunch hour/prime dinner hours, order food, go outside to eat or take out to enjoy at home, nearby park . Food is great! Some of the customer groups (i.e. like straight off a tour bus) are challenging to endure. Another option, bring high quality noise-cancelling headphones, eat/enjoy quietly if you encounter the "dama" experience...

Several months ago, I visited Fong Kee Clay Pot with a different friend who gave it rave reviews. The food isn't gross, but it's something I can make myself. Cook some meat and rice, and throw it in a clay pot. Although I didn't want to come here, the rest of my friends were excited to try this place. I kept my mouth shut and didn't express my opinion. Maybe I should have spoken up because everyone was underwhelmed by what we ordered. My food was bland and needed more flavor, but I wasn't sure what to add to make it more flavorful. What I shared with my husband: Preserved egg and chicken porridge with a Chinese donut Chinese sausage w/ salted fish I was disappointed by the amount of salted fish in my bowl. I found a few sheer pieces of basically nonexistent fish in my fish. It takes less than two dollars to make this dish, so I have no idea why a bowl of rice costs $17. I love preserved egg and chicken porridge, but this one lacked sodium and preserved duck egg flavor. My guess is that they made plain porridge and dumped chicken and preserved egg into it instead of cooking it on a slow simmer. My friend had to send her dish back because she found a hair in her food. Cons: Bland dishes Expensive dishes for what you actually get Pros: Prompt and good service for a party of 7. The next time a friend suggests Clay Pot, I will suggest a better alternative and spare us disappointment.

Most people, local and from afar, come here for their 3-dish menu. When we first started eating here more than a decade ago, it was $19.50. But with inflation surging once again, the price has gone up to $38.99, which is still reasonable compared to other Cantonese restaurants in the East Bay. Our most recent visit took place on 11/15/2025. After attending the Bolo Yeung "You Are Next!" Autograph Signing Event at the Great Mall, four of us came here for dinner. It was busy when we walked in at around 6:20pm. The place was 90% full, with many others waiting for their takeout orders. We scored the last round table. The friendly tall waitress came by to say hi and dropped out a couple menus. (For those of you who don't know who Bolo is, he's the original "Beast of the East" and was featured in movies such as "Enter the Dragon", "Bloodsport", and "Double Impact".) We ordered a total of seven dishes. The quality was good as usual. The standouts were the scrambled eggs with shrimp and yellow chives (soft and creamy inside), Peking pork chops (crispy, meaty pork chops perfectly coated in a tangy sauce/best in the East Bay), and the bean curd strips and pork stir-fry. The tall waitress provided excellent service. She talked to us like family and was very efficient. She's been with this restaurant for a long time and if I recall correctly, she is mainly doing this for kicks (and some spending money). If you want some good Chinese food that doesn't break the bank, this is the place to be. Still 4 stars.

Have had two great experiences here in the past few months. Recently, I had a dinner meeting with a…read morecolleague from the east coast, who wanted to try Good Neighbor. The restaurant looked full, but we were seated immediately at a small table. The service was friendly, informative and quick with the food. We wanted to try a bunch of different things, but our waitress actually told us we wouldn't be able to finish the first four dishes we ordered. She was right; we appreciated her help and took boxes to go. The food was great and my friend flew back to Connecticut happy. In February, my wife threw a bridal shower and decided to use Good Neighbor to provide all the food. She went to order on her lunch break and met with the owners to choose the dishes. They were helpful and informative. The day of the shower, they helped me load all the boxes into the vehicle, using a cart for transport. The important thing to note was the cost was reasonable for feeding 20 people. The food was enjoyed by all the guests and we had leftovers for dinner! You just can't beat that today. There's a ton of parking and they treat all their customers well. Only thing to note is they are closed on Tuesdays.
