I'd recommend the pan fried soup dumplings/sheng jian bao and the fried pork chop with rice cakes. The sheng jian bao is one of the best I've had in the bay, and the sauce in the pork chop was yummy - soy sauce base, slightly sweet and not too salty. Their beef noodle soup was just alright. Not bad but not rich and flavorful enough. Same with their xiao long bao where the skin was too thick and the filling was not hot and soupy enough for my liking. Husband found this place close to his dentist so we decided to give it a try. First impression coming in was it was cold as hell lol it was probably colder in there than it was outside. So, I already wasn't feeling very comfortable. The place is pretty small with a few tables, but service was pretty quick. We got the dry pork noodles, Shanghai style dumplings and another dumpling with soup. The noodles were oily and pretty bland to me. My husband needed to add extra chili oil to give it flavor. The Shanghai style dumpling was interesting, it tasted like those sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf but in a xiao long bao form. Not bad. The soup dumpling was okay too, the bottom was burnt but it made it crispy. Overall, all the food had a burnt taste to it. Could have been their style of cooking, not sure. A classic fixture of the Irvington area. I don't exactly know when this place opened, but it's been around forever. And for great reason! Even after inflation, Shanghai Noodle House remains one of the cheapest, tastiest ways for two people to get stupidly full in the Southeast Bay. It's in that cluster of shopping malls and stores around where the Cloverleaf used to be, so parking is easy and convenient. Given that the restaurant is called Noodle House, I have always ordered the noodles. I understand that they also serve Shanghai-style buns, but I haven't actually tried them in all my years of eating here because quite frankly, the noodles are massive. Absolutely massive. Enough to feed two people. It comes out very very quickly, because the noodles you get in every noodle dish is more or less the same. The base of the broth is also fairly similar - but the sauces/flavors you mix into the broth differ based on what you order. So in practice, you'll get a huge bowl of broth and noodles, far more than any one person can eat. In addition, you also get a huge amount of meat/vegetables/sauce to pour into the bowl - and there's so much, just that amount of meat/vegetables/sauce could be considered a full dish on its own. I am not sure if this is how you're actually supposed to eat it and I have no confidence in my parents ability to authentically eat Shanghainese food, but we've always just slid all of the sauces/meat/etc. into the bowl of noodles and then eat it like a noodle soup. I hope that's how you do it, or else I've been doing it wrong. Cash only - presumably one of many ways they keep this place super cheap! Cheap, plentiful, ultra-fast, and actually relatively healthy (there's oil, but a lot less than you often see in Chinese food). Highly recommended for anyone who wants a meal like that! read more

Authentic noodles from northern China. I've gotta tell ya, I'm so glad my family members all agreed to host a dinner party at Shanghai Noodles House 上海麺馆 for a real treat. There are 2 entrances. The one in the back seems more popular. I guess the rear parking lot is bigger than the one fronting Fremont Blvd. Tables and chairs were simple but it got crowded before sunset on Sunday afternoon. Just about everything we ordered were delicious. Especially the dumplings 小笼包 got more soup than anything I had ever eaten. Dry noodles were awesome too. One dish that I don't know what is on the menu but I'm Chinese is 菜饭 which is rice with miscellaneous vegetables and meat. July 19, 2025: The service here was pretty nice. They served pickled vegetables, peanuts and tea while you waited for the food. However, that's the only positive thing I can say about this place. The beef noodle soup which I ordered was terrible. The beef was very stale and had a rancid odor. I'm a fan of this dish but this restaurant uses really low quality meat, it wasn't tender and was tough, felt old. The soup also smelled bad and not appetizing, like it was also old or they used like gone bad oil/soup base. The shanghai pork fried buns were alright but lacked flavor. I went in the past few months and still don't remember too much about it except that it's small spot and not bad in terms of food and noodles. It's a small plaza so the parking lot is tiny. If you haven't noticed, I have a slight...very slight addiction to noodles. Small tiny hole in the wall restaurant, easy to miss because it's on the corner where it is located in a small plaza. Parking: handful of spots, but was able to get parking pretty easy. Menu: So you'll want to see what is available that day with supply chain issues, I heard the table next to me get told a lot of items weren't avail. Spicy Beef Noodle Soup: spice on this is the numbing type of spice, so if you aren't into that flavor maybe not get this. The noodles were al dente upon arrival, but the soup was INCREDIBLY hot (you can see it in the pic) so I was reminded of being 4 when my mom would tell me to blow on my noodles. Make sure to add some vinegar too, adds to the flavor perfection. The portion is GINORMOUS so you can easily share this. Beef was VERY tender. I would consider getting this again! I think I would ask for noodles on the side (if they'll do it) so that the noodles stay al dente. By the time I got to the end the noodles were soft. With taxes, paid about $14. The sweet sour pork rib is as delicious as expected, I always order this dish when I eat Shanghainese food! We ordered: - Cooked Chicken in Rice Wine ($5.95) - Ok. The rice wine was overpowering - Braised Beef Noodle ($9.95) - you get a huge bowl of noodles, the soup was on the sweet side - Shanghai Style Bun ($7.95) - You get 8 XLBs per order, and ours were full of juice. Decent - Shanghai Style Sui Mai ($8.95) - these were ok, I prefer regular HK-style shumai - Four Happiness Bean Curd ($5.45) - Also known as kao fu, this braised wheat gluten dish was a bit too sweet (the wheat gluten tends to absorb all the sauce, so I actually had to press all of the sauce out or else it was too much) - Shanghai Style Special Sweet Rice ($7.45) - known as Ba Bao Fan, this sticky rice dessert has red beans, raisins, and was my favorite thing that we ate The flavors lean towards the sweet side. I would absolutely recommend coming here to get their Dry Pork with Green Onion Noodle, Pan Fried Pork Bun, and their Shanghai Style Potstickers. The Dry Pork with Green Onion Noodle are super flavorful, especially with the green onion oil! It is definitely an oily noodle dish, but that's what makes it so good. The noodle portioning is also huge! The Pan Fried Pork Buns are so unexpectedly juicy inside. You would think otherwise because of the crispy outer dough, and the flavor is amazing. I would highly reccommend these. The Shanghai Style Potstickers are also delicious with a perfectly crisp bottom and succulent meaty filling. Some of their noodle soup dishes are a little lacking in flavor, but if you have a noodle craving you're trying to fulfill this is the spot because they definitely give you a lot of noodles. I wouldn't recommend the duck, but the lamb was pretty good. Service is ... blunt, but straightforward! It's what you can expect from a place that knows its stuff. Food came out pretty fast! This is possibly my favorite restaurant in Fremont! They've got large portion sizes for their noodle dishes, delicious and authentic food, friendly service, and consistent quality! I've been coming here for years, usually for takeout, as the restaurant is quite small. They are also great with large orders in my experience; we've placed large takeout orders to host relatives for lunch multiple times and everything comes hot and fresh.
