I recently tried Shanghai for the first time and wasn't disappointed. Everything from the food to cleanliness to service was great. I ordered the wanton soup which had very hearty wantons in it as well as leeks and cabbage. The flavor of the broth was perfect. Not too strong but not watered down either. I also ordered the egg rolls. Large and yummy. They were actual egg rolls, not spring rolls; A spring roll comes with the lunch special however. I didn't order the lunch special but it looked like the perfect size for lunch. Get rice, main dish, a spring roll, and small soup. All of that for about $8. read more

In short, great service, delicious food and nice atmosphere. We will be back. We three were there on Saturday night around 6:30. The restaurant was probably at 75% capacity which helped us to get a table right away. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. Being a germaphobe, I appreciated that they covered each table with a heavy piece of white paper - unlike a table cloth, I know the paper is swapped out with the clearing of each table. The waitress was quick to acknowledge us and get our drinks while we looked over the menu. She was pleasant and funny. It wasn't just our waitress who was attentive. If any of the staff saw our drinks getting low, they were quick to refill it. We felt taken care of by everyone. They have a good selection of menu items, including vegetarian options, there were probably five or six veg options that I look forward to trying in the future. We ordered the cream cheese wontons, Kung Pao vegetables, Chow Mein vegetables, and my non-veg husband had the hot and sour soup and sesame chicken. While we were waiting for our yummy and crispy cream cheese wontons, we were served with crispy wonton strips with the sweet red sauce and a delicious hot mustard that was the perfect balance between the savory spice of the mustard and heat. Normally, the hot mustard burns my sinus cavity and makes my eyes water after a few dips, so although I love the flavor, I can't eat very much of it. Much to my delight, the hot mustard was just fabulous and I could continue to dip to my heart's content. The food came with a large bowl each of white and fried rice, which was delicious on its own. Overall, the food was delicious. My only negative would be that the veg was diced pretty large so it was more on the raw side in my Kung Pao, but that didn't detract from my enjoyment of the dish. I have been coming here since I was a kid but it has been over 15 years since I have tried it! I decided to go back and give it a try again. It is in a good location with a very clean and nice inside. The service was below avg and the food was ok!! Every dish came out with the base being different according to what we had ordered but at least 6-7 of the dishes had the same horrible sauce poured over them. This is a restaurant for people without taste buds, but who want to think they know Chinese food. So glad I chose to purchase wine (but way overpriced for the size) as opposed to the "happy hour" wine, which not only was YUCK, but served in the tiniest possible "wine" glasses that they could find. Shanghai Garden isn't much different than other Asian restaurants in Colorado (they all tend to be similar), but they are a notch above most. First, the atmosphere is pleasant. The decor is quite nice, the tables and interior clean, and wait staff friendly. The menus are high quality and don't look beat up and sticky. They're clearly labeled with simple, understandable descriptions of the meals. We went around 5:00 on a Monday night, and they were nearly empty, but at least it was very quiet. We were promptly greeted and sat, and we were able to get our drinks and order in no time. Our waitress was very attentive, and even brought out fried wonton strips for our kids to much on while they waited. Our meal included soups, which arrived within minutes of ordering. Almost the moment our soups were finished, the meals arrived. I had the General Tso's Chicken which was fantastic. The sauce tasted great, sweet and spicy, and the breaded chicken was crispy, not soggy. Inside was tender white meat chunks, not dark meat or processed nuggets. The fried rice also tasted great, although it didn't have any egg or peas and carrots like some other restaurants do. Still, it was great tasting food overall. My kids got Shrimp Chow Mein, which they split (why don't Asian restaurants have kids' menus?) and got the soft chow mein noodles, which they loved. My kids don't usually like anything that isn't Mac n' Cheese, so if they liked it, it must be good. My wife got the Kung Pao Beef, which she also wholeheartedly endorsed. All of our food tasted hot, fresh, and made from quality ingredients. One thing to note is that the prices are a little bit more expensive than other Asian restaurants. Their prices are about $3 more per dish than their counterparts, but since the quality is better, it makes sense. Overall I'd highly recommend trying Shanghai Garden. read more

This is some of the best Chinese food I've had in a long time! The service was great and the food is absolutely amazing. The cream cheese wantons are to die for. They are a must-have for anyone even remotely interested in this menu item. My girlfriend and I ordered the Szechuan Chicken and it was very good. The vegetables are all very fresh and the fried and steamed rice were excellent. Our waiter was very attentive and very nice. I am definitely going to make this my go-to Chinese restaurant. I can honestly say that of every Chinese place I have tried, Shanghai has the best egg drop soup, sesame chicken, and lo mein. The only down side to this place is that they don't deliver (but that speaks to just how good their food is, because they don't rely on free delivery, coupons etc. to lure in business) If you're in Littleton or even the Denver area, definitely stop in here. While visiting my son in the Denver area, we were searching for a good Chinese restaurant. Well, you did not steer me wrong Yelpers. This nondescript strip center location was deceiving. Once inside, this was a lovely little restaurant. We were immediately seated in a booth and our drink orders were taken. Brought to the table were crispy wonton strips, a small bowl of sweet-and-sour sauce and a small bowl of hot mustard. What a great touch. I used to have this initial surprise at the Chinese restaurant I went to growing up. I won't tell you how long ago that was. The menu is perfectly long - meaning there wasn't so much that you couldn't make a decision nor was there too little to not satisfy everybody. We decided on the cream cheese wontons for an appetizer. These decadent crispy morsels with the creamy cream cheese filling were delicious. My son ordered the sesame chicken and I ordered the Mu shu pork. Neither disappointed. We had lunch here today and had an all around wonderful experience! It's in an older shopping complex but the restaurant is very nice and clean inside. We got the firecracker chicken, the sesame chicken and the chicken lo mein (for our toddler) with an appetizer of cheese wontons. All of the food was excellent! We also had the egg drop and hot and sour soup; both were some of the best we have ever had. The service was excellent too. My sister and niece and I ate lunch at this restaurant today and have never been treated so poorly as we were today. My sister ordered cashew chicken and I ordered twice cooked pork. My meal was so so but my sister's was not edible. The chicken was rubbery and you couldn't even stab it with a fork. She told the waitress that she wanted to order something different because the chicken was nasty. The waitress said she would get the manager. A very abrupt and extremely rude women came over with her arms crossed and asked what was the problem. When we told her, she said that can't be because I haven't had any complaints about "MY CASHEW CHICKEN ". In that nasty tone. All my sister said was could she just get a different meal like Sesame Chicken and the manager said No. You can't order chicken again since you didn't like the first dish. So my sis said just credit my bill. Keep in mind that she hasn't eaten except the bowl of soup. So when the bill came they didn't charge her for the chicken but told her that since she ate the soup which was part of the meal she would have to pay for it. So they charged her $2.59 for the soup that was included. She paid it then we left. We will never eat there again. Never ever have we been treated so rudely. read more

We just moved here and were delighted with this find. The atmosphere is very quiet and laid back. This is not like takeaway Chinese restaurants serving the same standard fare. Both lunch and dinner entrees come with a soup option and a vegetarian egg roll. The quality of the food is excellent. Everything is very fresh, from the quality to actual cooking. For frying, the oil appears to be fresh and everything fried immediately before serving. If an entree is first fried, the coating appears to be very, very light, not thick or heavy. No knife is necessary for further slicing of chicken or beef! The hot and sour soup is unremarkable and the won ton soup is kicked up a notch with little fried onions. We will return! read more

I ate at this place when I first got to town and I hadn't realized yet that everything in the Centennial area is in a strip mall, so my first reaction was to be concerned. I was wrong. The atmosphere is typical of a Chinese restaurant, kinda dark, with lions, and a fish tank. It wasn't busy at all, normal dinner hours on a weekday, and I was seated right away. The food was good, and the portions were large, so there was plenty to take home afterward. Shocked. Yelp has not disappointed. For my daughter's birthday she requested Chinese food. Since moving here we have been on a seemingly never ending search for good Chinese food. Well to coin a bad 80's Foreigner song, the search is over. Saturday night we stopped in around 6:30 and 7 of us were seated without wait. They said that this is "family style", but do not take that as the portions are family sized. It's family style in that each plate is brought separately and everyone gets their own "clean" plate to partake in the various dishes. Everything we ate was amazing. we had 4 entrees, appetizers and soup. The most shocking was the bill. $64 total for all that food. Been going to this place with my fiancee and his family for over 7 years (my fiancee and his family have been going here even longer)! We've always loved the food, waiters and waitresses and atmosphere, so we always got excited to come here. Everything was just basically fine, service was slow as usual... the only thing that was different was the prices and hours (we didn't care). Appetizers were good as usual, however, when we got our entrees, that's when things headed downhill. I had ordered the orange chicken (I thought it was really good last year so I decided to order it again). I thought it was odd that it took longer for me to get my order... I mean they usually get the entrees out on time with the rest of the orders. I didn't really care though, because I was content with all the yummy appetizers. However, when I received my plate and took a bite of the orange chicken...uhhhh... it tasted like they drenched the whole plate with orange dish soap (It has an overpowering orange zest to it, like eating orange peels with a soapy after taste). It was definitely different than last year when I had ordered it. Maybe they added more orange zest to it? Couldn't taste the chicken. After trying a couple of pieces and had my fiancee try it to confirm that I wasn't a lunatic, we notified the manager/ owner(the older chinese lady who wears very red lipstick and doesn't wear an apron) about it, and she asked us what was wrong with the orange chicken. Told her that it had a powerful orange/ dish soap taste (I believe she took that as an insult) and her reply was, "The orange chicken is supposed to have an orange taste to it, what else is wrong with it so I can tell the chef?". That's when I replied, "no...I've had it before and it was never this strong of an orange taste." I even offered her to taste it, but she declined. She then says (in an annoyed tone), "sorry I don't understand but I CAN"T tell the chef he did anything wrong, but what would you like me to do? I can make something else for you if you'd like". I then said chicken lo mein would be fine with me. She then goes into the kitchen and comes back 10 minutes later while everyone was basically finished with their meal. "We (meaning the chef and I) tasted the orange chicken, and there was nothing wrong with it. There must be something wrong with you then" then slams the chicken lo mein plate right in front of me. Seriously, is that what you say in front of a bunch of customers? Especially loyal customers who have been coming to you for years? I'm pretty sure everyone in that dining room was watching and listening to you when you said that. Even your waitresses were confused on why you said that. I wasn't even trying to be mean about the food and I didn't mind if the chef could remake it, but to tell your customers that there is something wrong with them is a huge smack in the face! Overall, we will not be coming here again. Your staff is really sweet and food is good, but head manager needs to change their attitude when it comes to serving they're customers, especially when they are the ones critiquing the food! read more
