Delicious spot that never has long of a wait for Chinese and Shanghai food. We always come in large groups and order a variety of dumplings, Peking duck with lettuce wraps, noodles, and never break the bank
A Shanghainese style restaurant located at a smaller mall on Alexandra road Richmond. A menu full of heavy favorite dishes with exceptional service. One of the smaller Shanghainese Restaurant not everyone knows about. Highly recommended.
Stopped by here on our way to Vancouver. We got these: drunken chicken Fried rice with salty pork Garlic pea sprouts Steamed xlb Pork and vegetable wonton Stir fried shrimp Sweet and sour fish Snow sprout and pork noodle soup Yuxiang eggplant Highlights: the fried rice, drunken chicken, and sweet and sour fish The fried rice was cooked to perfections: seasoned perfectly and had that nice wok fragrance with every bite. 10/10 The sweet and sour fish was a little dry looking but it was still very flavorful and I love the addition of the pineapple. 9/10 only because the traditional Chinese dish it's modeled after has pine seed but there was no pine seeds in the dish. The wonton is a little overcooked in my opinion. The wonton wrap on most of them came off when I scooped it with my spoon. I think just in terms of sticking to the traditional Shanghai wonton dish, the addition of thinly sliced omelet and seaweed would have been a nice touch. 9/10 because the flavor of the wonton filling was spot on. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall a good experience! The service was very fast and the facility is clean and spacious.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Parking is a little rough with lots of reserved spaces but turnover is also pretty quick so you'll bound to find a place to park eventually. I highly recommend this place! I think it's a nice place to go to if you're feeling overwhelmed by all the dimsum choices in Richmond but still want Chinese food.

Dan Dan noodles, green bean and a chicken with Bob Choi The food was amazing and on the table with in minutes we will be back if in the area .
My family and I wanted to try a Shanghai style restaurant in town, so we stopped by to give a try. There's a lot of great choices, and the portion and price are acceptable as well. Grounded Green Herb w/ Dried Beancurd Salad: our favorite dish of the night! It is our first time trying such a dish. The cut vegetable and dried beancurd greatly mixed together, the salad is lightly salted with a mix of sesame oil. This is a great appetizer to start off the meal. Also, it is a great option to balance the meal and lighten up any of the heavy dishes. Smoked Fish in JiangSu Style: another famous and well-known Shanghainese dish. My parents really enjoyed this one. The fishes are greatly marinated. It is not overly salty or sweet. This is another must try appetizer along with the Grounded Green Herb w/ Dried Beancurd Salad. Stir-Fried Bean Sprouts: The bean sprouts are fresh. It is greatly cooked and seasoned perfectly right. A great vegetable choice. Braised Chicken with Chestnut: the chicken is nicely cooked, it is done well to the spot. However, the chestnuts are still under cooked, which some are still hard to chew on. Luckily, the flavor is still nicely done, not overly salty and seasoned. Just wish the chestnuts would be more tender and cooked. Braised Tofu With Shrimp: this is a very lightly seasoned dish. I personally really enjoyed it, but this dish is too plain for my dad. The soft tofu with the tender shrimps are a great combination. I would recommend this only to ones that enjoy lighter flavored dishes. Fish Head in Casserole: don't recommend on ordering this dish, we regret ordering this one. The fish head is fried and then cooked. Super greasy and heavy dish. The fish head is claimed to be fresh, but you can hardly taste the freshness after frying it. We had trouble finishing this dish. Overall, this is a great place to try Shanghai style food. The Grounded Green Herb w/ Dried Beancurd Salad and Smoked Fish are the must order, I saw these two are ordered by almost every table. Most dishes at this place are not heavily seasoned. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is really busy! We were lucky to get a table without making a reservation. The place is quite small and limited. So, I recommend on making a reservation if you want to visit, especially on the weekends.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was just alright. The hostess seemed very annoyed since we walked in because of how busy they were. Most waitresses and waiters were still somewhat friendly and helpful. Hopefully they can improve their service and cleanliness.
This was my first time trying authentic Shanghainese food! It was recommended by a close friend so I was really excited to try everything :) [[HIGHLIGHT]]We came on a week day right when it opened at 5pm so the place was empty and it was easy to grab a table.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered xiao long bao (soup dumplings), which were so juicy and delicious! The broth for the beef soup was really flavourful and the beef was tender. My favourite part of the meal was the green salad with tofu and the rice cakes because I've never tried it before and I just kept going in for more! I was stuffed! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I remember our seating time was only 2 hours, so please keep that in mind if you're planning to visit.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I would definitely recommend Yuan's Garden if you're craving asian food and want to enjoy a meal with a group! I'd love to come back again.
Pleasantly surprised. What we had were a series of Shanghai region style dim sum dishes. Items are very typical. One can tell by their proximity whether the place was authentic Shanghai style cuisine-very close. Was actually expecting a fail since there are so many "imitation" styles that are quite pitiful. Service is a bit on the slow side perhaps due to low server to table ratio. Otherwise it was ok if you can signal one over for every item you need. No change of tea pots or dirty dishes. Yup. That kind of service. Ambiance is okay. Cozy. Crowded. May come back again. FyI. XLB was done to perfection.
We came to this place quite a number of times and this place has become one of the usual place we dine while visiting Vancouver. Vancouver has many to offer especially when it comes to Chinese food. Yuan's Garden has some of our favorite dishes. We ordered sauerkraut fish, kung pao chicken, eggplant in garlic sauce, and fried rice. All dishes were fresh and tasty. And we had such a good time here. One thing to note, we got here around 6pm on a Saturday, and were sat immediately, but the place is full. There are only 3 tables for parties of 2, and 2 tables for parties of 2-4, and the rest of the tables are for large parties. The servers were very nice and helpful. We will come back again for sure.
TLDR: Great (but huge) Shen Jiang Bao. Awesome duck. So for our final night, we decided to do "dumplings" or as it turns out... Shanghainese again. This place is a little hard to find, according to Google. I can't tell you how many U-turns I had to make before we decided to try going down a weird alley... Parking is a bit tough here actually, since a lot of parking spaces are "reserved". [[HIGHLIGHT]]Anyway, got there on a Thursday around 7p and it was pretty packed still. Good sign![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered 2 Shanghainese staples... the XLB and the SJB. XLB was average... the skin is a bit too thick. But it did have a lot of juice, and the meat was loose. It wasn't too bad. I really enjoyed the SJB more though. At first it looks huge and the skin looked thick. But thankfully it's not! It had a nice bottom crunch. Again, the meat was loose and as flavorful as the XLB. I had no problems eating 3 of them by myself. We also ordered the Egg scrambled broccoli. I'm not sure what the official name is. It's not found in the Bay Area, but it is in HK. I like it. It comes with a raw egg on top, that you mix with the scrambled egg whites. It was creamy and salty on the veggies. The only thing that stopped this from being a five star dish was the veggies weren't cleaned very well. My wife found a bug on one of her broccoli. Lastly, we ordered the duck since it seemed like everyone else was. My wife loved it. She claimed it didn't have any gamey-ness, and it was tender, albeit chewy. I thought it still had the standard duck flavor, so I'm not sure what she was talking about. Also, I didn't think it was very tender... more chewy and stringy. But she loved it, so I'm all for it! Overall, because of the uniqueness of the egg-white broccoli, plus the excellent SJB and my wife's favorite duck, this place gets a well-deserved 5 stars.
The best dish for me is the steamed rice with salty pork and vegetable. It's not too salty and it smells good. The braised tofu with shrimp taste good too. It's mild and comforting, but it would taste better with chili oil. I like the sweet and sour sauce too. It's a good addition to eat with the steamed rice.
A northern style Chinese restaurant is what we found here. We mistakenly came by thinking we would find a Hong Kong style dim sum place. But we made the best of it and were very pleased by the patient and attentive staff here. They listened while we told them of peanut allergies and had great recommendations on foods we could order. We ordered an assortment of dishes including a won ton and a beef noodle dish. We also got a pea sprout vegetable dish, dumplings (big and full of soup), jellyfish and fried scallions pancake. All delicious. The restaurant is situated in an unassuming location and although it looks small from the outside, it is plenty spacious inside. It is well laid out with multiple 8-tops to seat large parties. Judging by the amount of filled tables, they are popular. We know why bc the restaurant is a very good one.
Awesome thin-skinned/wrapped Xiao Long Bao and Dan Dan noodles (peanut sauce, and the best chewy thick noodles ever!). Decently priced as well. Their pan-fried dumplings are also good. Honestly, everthing I ordered was very delicious and loaded, I'd order it again. DEFINITELY need to make a reservation. It's also a lot easier if your party has Chinese-speakers, and the staff are always super super busy so you'll have to be a bit pushy and to get their attention and get your order in.
Growing up, my family drove to Richmond for a day/weekend trip often (from Washington). We love the many Asian, especially Chinese, dining options in the city. We were looking for a new place to try recently, and decided on Yuan's Garden. Most of the staff speaks Cantonese and Mandarin, which made it easier for us to ask questions and order dishes we love. Overall, we're happy with the decision. There are a handful of solid Shanghainese restaurants around but some are very pricey. Although Yuan's Garden is not cheap by any means, the cost is fairly reasonable. Everything we ordered was good. I especially loved their eight treasure sticky rice. It was much larger than I expected and had plenty of toppings. We also love the eel and chive, one of our family favorite dishes and something difficult to recreate at home. The dan dan noodles were very flavorful and we were surprised how much we enjoyed it. If you're in Richmond and don't know where to go for dinner, I highly recommend coming here. Their menu is huge, you will have a hard time narrowing down what to order (we sure did). We saw many tables order Beijing duck so perhaps start there!

Food was delicious. I got the steamed pork buns (xiao long bao), pan fried dumpling, wonton in chili oil, cold chicken feet, beef roll. All of it was delicious except for the chicken feet. Friendly service reasonable pricing. Worth it for sure read more
Reminded me of a dim sum restaurant: Cantonese speaking front desk and waitresses, a paper menu and a pencil for you to place orders with. But the items on the menu are very much eastern china. We ordered the soup dumplings, salty duck, duck blood noodle soup, loved all. The value is also very good for the price. read more

Looks like Shanghai Morning moved to this location and renamed themselves. The interior is much more modern. Looks pretty good. Staff are friendly and helpful. The food here is still quite good I must say. Friends and I destroyed ourselves. See photos. Braised pork - not too dry. Served with sauce and bok choy. Seafood soup - large chunks of fish, with bean sprouts and cilantro. Cantonese style poached chicken - served at room temperature. Not dry at all. Stir fried pork with soybeans - combo actually works quite nicely. Pickled vegetables add a bit of tang. Stir fried beef with onions - a bit on the salty side, but eating with rice helps. Broccoli with crab and egg yolk - my friends really liked this one for some reason. It was tasty, but honestly I would've preferred to just eat a crab. Red bean pie - a twist on the classic dessert. This thing was flat and dry like an onion cake, but with red bean paste inside. Something different. Overall I'd come back at some point. Still recommended. read more

I got dinner from here recently. In terms of food, I tried their Nanjing Style Salted Duck, Braised Veg with Ham, and Steamed Pork Buns (XLB). The salted duck was nicely done with quality duck and good flavour (nicely brined). The XLB was good as well with thin wrap/"skin", soupy, and a nice chunk of meat for each of the bao. Both are worth trying. The vegetable was fresh, and the soup base was decent for the vegetable dish. read more

Recommended by a friend for their XLB. The place was only opened for 15 min & already half filled. Good sign. First dish to arrive was the beef roll. I would call this a lettuce roll with the amount of iceberg lettuce that was in it. 1 very small slice of beef in each piece. Next up was the siu (xiao) long bao. A huge dumpling. Very tasty, very juicy with large ball of pork. So good! Duck was only ok. Sauce was standard. Nothing wow about it. Woh bah (don't know what it's called in English lol). Crispy rice seemed to come from a package, fillings were scarce for the price. I would come back for the XLB alone. But would like to maybe try their dan dan noodles & a couple of other items. read more
Solid Shanghainese food in Richmond. We were craving some dumplings and decided to give this place a try. Food was solid. Dumplings were nice and soupy (both steamed and fried). Noodles were cooked perfectly. Good portion sizes and decent prices too. Friendly staff as well! read more

New Yuan's Garden Dim Sum shop recently opened inside the New 2000 Supermarket. This shops sells mainly Frozen dim sums that you can cook at home. There's also cooked dishes that you can buy and heat up before eating. We had just brought a steam meat bun from their steamer and braised meat to take home. We haven't had the chance to buy it this time because we're still going to stay outside for a while. The steam bun is just soso, because the bun is very soggy with a small meat ball size filling. The meat tastes quite sweet and is not our type. read more

This was my first time trying Shanghainese dim sum which was a bit different than what I was use to. We were however a big fan of the xlb as they were very juicy and delicious and popped in our mouths. The green onion pancake was also quite good. The sticky rice dish wasn't what I was expecting which was probably why I didn't like it as much. Clean restaurant, friendly staff, and good Shanghainese food! read more
They moved. Yeah, they did. They used to be in a strip mall but now they've moved into a stand alone building along 食街 right in the middle of 食區 in Golden Village Richmond 黄金村. . I did return after a long hiatus. Something like several years but I digress. Certain things have changed. They're more upscale now. Table cloths. They didn't have this before. See my prior pics. They now have Canto speakers with no Mando accent. Perfect. Menus are avail in Chinese and English. I opted for Chinese since I can't communicate, read, or write food in English. I am ESL, and my engrish skills for Chinese food is abysmal. It's rare that I'd hand out a 5 to an Shanghainese Asian place. Why? For the price, ambience, and quality of food, it's a no brainer. I'd do this place over Shanghai River any day. IMHO, SR is overpriced for the same thing. The only diff I can see is the staff in fancy uniforms at SR. See my pics for the food. Come early or make a reso. Menu is still a tick off sheet. Free parking in private lot. P.S. this is an Asian joint, take my 5* rating with a gain of salt. Don't expect 5* perfect service. Small Jiangsu/Shanghainese restaurant on Alexandra Rd. The staff and most of the clientele seem to be Cantonese. Pretty busy on a weeknight, although we did get a small table without a reservation. We got a pretty good variety of dishes for our meal. For appetizers, we got the Nanjing style salted duck and that was pretty good. Also got the jelly meat and that was decent. For the main dishes, the pan-cooked buns were excellent, and the steamed soup buns (xiaolongbao) were decent as well even though the skin was on the thicker side. I really liked their stir-fried ong choy, which had very good flavor. Got the roast duck tofu cilantro soup, sweet and sour ribs, and cured meat fried rice, and these were all pretty solid. I was pretty disappointed with the sweet and sour fried cod though. The fish was overcooked and dry. Entire bill was $135 before tips for three people, with one dish worth of leftovers. Would have been better if we didn't order the cod. Not cheap, but not too far off for restaurants of this class. Had enough good dishes to be above a 3-star rating, so I'll go with a 4. read more
First time since they moved to this new location, and thank goodness their food quality stayed! With a slight increase in their prices, I feel it is still worth it! Ordered the Wine Marinated Pork Feet, Shanghai Soup Noodle with Braised Eel, Pan Fried Pork Bun, Jelly Fish with sliced cucumber Salad, Spicy Wontons and sticky rice rolls. Everything was great except for the sticky rice roll. I will be back for more!! read more
A really great place for shanghai style breakfast! My mom and I got one crab and one pork soup dumpling order, beef rolls, drunken chicken and Chinese donut with hot soy milk. The XLBs were juicy and the skin wasn't too thick, like how it should be. The beef rolls had a semi thick wrap with a nice salty flavourful beef and green onions. Yuan Garden had won an award for their drunken chicken so we had to try it. We found it to be a bit too salty for our liking and I personally wasn't super fond of the alcohol taste but it was expected since it isn't called drunken chicken for nothing. The chicken meat was soft and juicy thats cooked the same way as Hainan chicken. You can't go wrong with Chinese donuts and soy milk for breakfast either. The servers were very nice and attentive too. The bill wasn't expensive for how much we ordered for two people. I think it came out to be under $70 with tip? I could be wrong. PEKING DUCK TWO WAYS If you've never had this before, you need to go try it asap! The way to eat this is to wrap the meat, cucumber, onion and hoisin sauce all together in a crepe-like pancake. When you bite into it, you should be able to get that crispiness of the skin and the juiciness from the meat. It's a mouthful of goodness! The second way is usually lettuce wraps! Service (4/5): Good customer service and food comes out pretty fast! Environment (4/5): Kid friendly place. They have big and small tables. There's a FREE parking lot in front of the restaurant! This is a great Resturant. I love it. Great for bringing a date or family. The staff is friendly and the food is fantastic and delicious. There are a lot of resturant in Richmond but this is one or my favorite. read more
