There is a lot of variety on the menu which is appreciated, but the quality of some of the food is mediocre. If you eat here I would not opt for the sushi. It is not very tasty and the quantity does not match the price. I would recommend going to another local sushi spot (like Komachi or M Sushi Bistro). The other dishes, though, have some flavors to offer. I recommend the noodle dishes, especially the Hong Kong Noodles. read more

Okay, I've now tried Shangri La three times and each and every time I think that their sushi is really bad. It's not the service, that's great... and the beer is always cold and sells itself. But the sushi, is barely 2 stars! And 2 star sushi is not something that you want to experience! I ate there a couple of years ago and thought it was decent. Then, my husband and I bought discounted gift certificates for the restaurant and now we feel obligated to get our monies worth. Damn. The fish NEVER seems fresh and they drown the rolls in crappy sauce. Ugh! The only roll that was decent is roll that contained no raw fish. Um, that defeats the purpose of going to sushi. I have never tried any of the other Asian cuisine on the menu, so my review solely reflects their sushi. NOT good it how I'd describe it. Good location, nice service, crappy sushi! read more

Between the charming atmosphere, excellent prices on their happy hour menu which lasts until 5:30pm, and the daily drink specials, Shangrila is an excellent dining experience for friends and family. I absolutely recommend the volcano party bowl for a wonderful drink for two or three and the California roll was delightful and well made, not seeming like the cheap go to roll that has become the staple cheap roll for some dining establishments. The staff was courteous and smiling and funny. They were helpful and the food was served quickly even though they had a moderate amount of clientele. Worth going if you're feeling like some sushi and dine alcohol. I look forward to coming back and trying several more rolls and hands rolls. God job guys. Verdict: 8 sushi boats out of 10. read more

Went here today for a late lunch. Haven't been in over 25 years. The hot and sour soup and Mongolian beef were just as good as I remembered them. It's nice to know that some things stay the same. I'll be going there more often in the future. read more

Two words come to mind. Safeway Sushi. The food was edible, but this place is not at all what I expected. It's location, it's prices, the fact they call theirselves a bistro gave me high expectations. I was really excited to have a gift certificate and couldn't wait to try it. The best way for me to describe it, is Chinese people making Japanese food. I should have known when the miso soup came out with floating chow mein noodle pieces. Wierd, but I still kept hope alive. I went with a bento box and its easier for me to just tell you what I mean about "Chinese making Japanese food." Japanese food to me is fresh and light. Chinese food is usually heavy and cheaper ingredients. The gyoza was made with a thick wonton wrapper. The tempura batter was also thick. The tempura sauce they provided tasted like straight soy sauce. All of these things should be a light. Not heavy. The California roll it came with, had a dried, old looking piece of imitation crab in it. And what tops it off for me, I specifically asked the waiter,does the sesame chicken have a batter covering it or is it dipped in flour. He said it was dipped in flour so I ordered it. It came out and it was definitely covered in batter. It had the consistency of orange chicken from Panda Express and the sauce was as thick as honey. It didn't taste bad, but it tasted like Chinese food and not Japanese. I could eat here again, but It would not be because I picked the place. read more

This place is in downtown Lodi, a place I've never been to. The atmosphere was ok, it had two areas/sections where one had a bar. There's a lot of variety of items on the menu, almost too much. The mix chef sushi was not that great. It was sloppy and the rice was huge and was not nicely packed. The fish was not fresh either as it was not soft and more dry and tough. The katsu bento box was a good value for $13. You get soup (i opted for sweet and sour), which was too salty, it had salad which tasted great. The california roll was sloppy and the rice were falling apart. I did enjoy the katsu, though it was on the drier side and the sauces were too salty. The tempura veggies were greasy and not flaky and crunchy. The rice was just rice. The gyoza was plain like out of the package. The tofu balls were really good though. I think you get great portion sizes for the value, but the quality is not the best. I've had better. The service was nice and prompt with water all the time. Tried this place out on a family recommendation. I ordered Sesame Chicken Bento box. Soup gets five stars; salad, four stars; California Roll, one star, I do not know what was in it but it was not shrimp or cucumber; Sesame Chicken was ok until it got cold then the sweetness of the sauce made it inedible; steamed rice, three stars; tempura was ok except that the sauce was too salty and the tempura shrimp tasted like it was made of paste. The food and service was really good, i wish they would update the interior so many places in Lodi have so much more potential they just need to invest in seating, flooring and lighting. Great sushi AND Chinese food selections! Feeling like you want sushi but then you realize honey walnut shrimp sounds pretty good too? This is the spot ! You can get both AND for dessert, you can have a deep fried ice cream ! The moms roll is my favorite , along with their fried calamari and fried chicken wings. They have a great selection on drinks too. I ordered a sangria and thought it was a tad bit too strong but, who knows? Maybe I just couldn't hang that night? I've been here a couple times before and idk if they changed things up but omg the food this time around taste delicious! We had the tuna ceviche and stuffed mushrooms and those alone were soooo good! I'm definitely coming back for more. We also got the downtown roll and it was tasty, and the Hong Kong style noodles were also bomb! I had a mai tai and let me tell you, they're not stingy with the alchohol (they're heavy handed in a GOOD way). Very friendly service, and the food came really quickly. Check it out for yourself. Had dinner here last night for the first time and it was my birthday! I ordered Edemame, Mom's Roll, and a Cosmo--their drink special for the day. They have a special drink-of-the-day for every week day. The Edemame did not taste fresh, the roll, which I requested to be cut into thinner slices as suggested by Yelp reviews, was mediocre. It was in fact a little heavy on the sauce. I felt that they could have made the sauce a bit thicker so they wouldn't feel the need to drown the roll in the sauce. On a good note, the rice was sticky! The Cosmo was great...strong! They definitely do not skimp on the liquor! My bf had the Chicken Katsu dinner and fried prawns. The fried prawns came out quick and hot! He said the Katsu was okay. It was made with chicken breast and he prefers thigh. Service was great and very attentive. They promptly refilled drinks. And the decor, very nice. It is pretty dim inside, which makes for an intimate setting. Great place for a first date! If you think you're craving sushi think about how awful you'll feel after eating at this place. The chicken in the Kung pao bento box was tough, not spicy, and the teriyaki was too salty. The Moms Roll sushi rolls was "seasoned" with fake mesquite smoke flavor. The dragon roll had two slivers of avocado. A fabulous misstep brought us to have a belated Father's Day lunch here. Really great staff & service. Food was fantastic to say the least. 7 of us & 6 different meals. Every person was so happy with their food. Only docked a star due to the only meal late (everyone at least 1/2 finished with their meal) was mine & was a poke salad. No cooking required. No reason given or explanation why we were waiting for it during the 20 minutes I sat awkwardly & watched everyone else eating. Prices not bad, though my poke salad was on the special board, without a price (no specials had prices) was more than double the price of their regular menu poke salad. When we got here we got seated and they asked us if we wanted water, we said yes and sat down and they gave us menus to look. It took 10-15 minutes for us to get our waters. Me and my sister took a sip and it tasted like very strong faucet water. I decided to watch trolls and it took 20 minutes for a waitress/server to come. We ordered chicken teriyaki bento box, strawberry swirl?, pineapple or mango smoothie, and mussels. It took another 20-25 minutes for the food to come. When my smoothie came I took a sip and it was really good and my sisters also. We took some chicken of the chicken teriyaki bento box and tried it. It tasted burnt and it was really strong. Then there was 3 pieces of California roll and I ate one. When I got it was falling apart easily. I took a big bite of it and it was really good. It also had rice, lettuce, and fried up carrots and squash. The rice was good but the lettuce was really sour. I ate the carrot and it was very good and delicious. I didn't eat the squash though. the only thing about this is the water and the waiting for a waitress/server and our food coming. read more

My wife and I took our daughter to dinner here. Comfortable, quiet, nice for conversation. The food was bad enough that my daughter later apologized for suggesting the place. The broccoli beef sauce was so salty and sweet that my wife left it. You could not taste the broccoli or the beef over the sauce. The sushi came at the very end of our dinner. The miso soup tasted strongly of water. My udon bowl was meh at best. I'd call it a caricature of Asian fusion. read more

Ate the chicken here once and got sick..... tried it again a couple of months later hoping I wouldn't have the same experience and it happened again. Concerned how they are handling their meats. Never answer the phone when trying to call for pick up. The only great worker there is this lady behind the bar. Everyone else looks like they hate working there. Wouldn't recommend. This scathing review is predicated on what transpired after we ate in this restaurant an hour ago. I didn't think about writing this up but I felt compelled to do it for the principle of righteous indignation to inform people about my transactional experience with their manager named Sabrina.Before we ordered our food, I approached Sabrina to ask her questions about (1) why the restaurant would not provide 2 separate bills for our group ( we were 8 guests composed of 2 family groups with 4 members in each family). She said the restaurant is too busy to be bothered by generating 2 bills for the 2 family group.Her response was delivered in a matter-of-factly, blithely callous tone so Generic to the tune of " that's how the restaurant does business" . (2) I inquired if the restaurant charged a gratuity fee of 18% and again she said that is a standard operating procedure for guests numbering 6 or greater, and again invoked the principle of " that's how the restaurant does its business" . So on the basis of this conversation, it presented the appearance of , or it presented the presumption of , on the basis of how the conversation went , that the gratuity fee would be 18%.After we finished eating however, I had approached her once again to request the removal of an iced Vietnamese coffee that was served so watered down in view of its long arrival time, the ice has melted on the coffee by the time it arrived on our guest table. Her response to this was so rigid and detestably and lamentably woeful to the tone of "unfortunately I cannot take off the coffee bill because she ordered it ice cold". Despite my vehement protestations and proclamations of displeasure to her response , she was so unfazed and so indifferent to my concerns that she blithely said she is not removing the coffee charge from the bill. And to add insult to injury, my experience was even made far worse when I found out that there was a 20% gratuity fee that was tacked into our bill. When I argued against it by reminding her that I was made to understand that it was 18%,she unapologetically and nonchalantly said " I never said it was 18%" and went on to say that it was actually 20%. And so I argued by saying that since you didn't correct me during our initial conversation when I brought up the subject matter of 18% gratuity fee, from thence, it presented the appearance of , or the presumption that, that the gratuity fee would indeed be 18% by virtue of implication since she failed to mention the gratuity fee to be 20 % . I explained that based on our understanding from our initial conversation, I decided to eat at this restaurant contingent on a handshake agreement of 18% gratuity fee.However, I felt ambushed and tricked when my bill turned up to indicate I had to pay a 20% gratuity fee. Once again, when I approached the manager Sabrina, she said "I never said 18%" and told me at the time of my approach that it was 20%.When I left the restaurant, I felt betrayed,angry,and devalued as a customer because of her woefully rigid approach and her poor customer service recovery. read more

Food is AMAZING! Waiters/Waitresses are always so wonderful. The host staff are a little underwhelming, and don't always make you feel the most welcome, but once you're seated, your experience really starts. Sushi takes a little while to come out (usually after all of other dishes have been served already), but it's worth the wait! Everything is served hot and fresh, and tastes like it's made with quality ingredients. We're usually here at least once every 1-2 weeks because it's just that good. read more

The service was good, our waitress was very personable and friendly. The drinks were good, but didn't try any of the speciality cocktails. The food was hit or miss. The calamari appetizer was very good and it came with a pesto (I think) dipping sauce that was unusual but REALLY good. I dipped all the rest of the food in it too I had the Dad roll and wasn't a fan. We also got some kind of crispy noodle with beef and they didn't like it, I tried some and thought it was pretty bland, but decent when I dipped it in the pesto sauce.
