ShaQ is located in a small strip mall near some auto shops, so parking can be a bit difficult depending on time of day. They often have promotions on various menu items, so you'd have to check when you're in store. I got the chicken shawarma platter and it's a decent deal when you get it when it's on promotion. Food comes out quickly and is pretty good. I recommend getting food to go, but they did have plenty of seating when I went. It's nice to support them, a small business, as opposed to the larger chain restaurants. read more

Had takeout last evening ... all vegetarian- Falafel salad, dolma platter, eggplant salad, and baba ghanoush. Everything was very tasty. The fresh pita was very fresh! They confirmed that they do NOT refry their falafel and showed me the actual falafel dough balls they use ... and also, the oil for frying falafel is not shared with non-vegetarian food. The salad was more Americanized than I expected with mixed greens ... adding parsley, radish or pink pickled turnips, some bell peppers and chickpeas would have given more middle eastern taste to it! We ordered two platters: Combo Butter & Shawarma and Chicken Tikka Masala. Each platter came with rice, salad, hummus, pita, and potato. Everything was delicious! Both curries were flavorful and creamy. The Butter Chicken was more tomatoey and spicy than the Chicken Tikka Masala. All the chicken was really well cooked, but the Shawarma was a little too salty for me. The salad was refreshing and sweet - the cucumber paired well with onion which added freshness and crunchiness to the dish. Beef was alright but not as tasty as the lamb or chicken. Our group generally preferred the butter chicken. The sauce is what made it really good, medium spice, very creamy. I really enjoyed the rice plate, but our friends also liked having half and half with fries. I'm not sure how big the organization is or how many locations they have, but this is the first and only one in the Bay Area that I know off. So we went to ShaQ when one of our friends recommended it, and man I'm glad that we went there! They were getting ready to close but took our orders anyway and the food was ready very soon...that made the kids very happy :D We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala Platter and the Lamb and Beef Gyro Platter. The portions are large, and the chicken shawarma is pretty tender, but I found the flavor to be seriously lacking and watery. I got the half and half platter with butter chicken shawarma. It's basically rice and crinkle fries with butter chicken. The fries and rice were good with chicken but I wish the sauce wasn't so watery. The flavor was very subtle. The dish tasted 100% better the next day just because the sauce had more time to evaporate and thicken. The menu has a good amount of variety, and we settled on ordering the chicken shawarma platter and the chicken shawarma shaq fries. The cashier recommended chicken as their most popular meat choice. It wasn't too busy around noon on a Friday, and there was only one other table when we sat down to wait for our food. It was about a ten-minute wait for our food to come to the table. I had the shaq fries and I easily had enough for two portions, maybe three. Almost $20 for that plate. #3 - lamb plate tasted ok. #4 - before I left, I saw that their lamb and beef meat was left outside on the split raw. It was not being cooked like the chicken. This worries me as raw meat can go bad fast hot environment. #5 I didn't get sick from the food. The rice is average, the hummus is a bit oiler than I expected, and the salad is undressed. The standouts of the fish are definitely the potato's that are in the box, they are perfectly seasoned and the flavor is so distinct compared to the rest of the platter. Since they're still newish at 8 months young, below is feedback: * The whole wheat pita has an unappealing texture. It's thin, dry, and coarse. But, it's free so it's not a big deal. * I sampled the hummus from my friend's platter and found the consistency to be runny. * On the first visit, we ordered extra meat (+$3.99) for the Lamb on the Rocks but it seemed like we received the regular sized meat portion (when comparing it to the portions on subsequent visits). The dining area is clean with booth and table seating. There's several flat screen TVs for watching the game. I appreciate that the outdoor tables were wiped down and very clean. I'm always on the hunt for restaurants with outdoor seating so I can bring TT and often times, I find the outdoor tables at restaurants old and filthy. Shared parking lot with several auto body/mechanic shops. Tan's car wash is right next door so it's convenient to pop into ShaQ for some grub while waiting for your car to be washed. Overall, ShaQ is a great option for cheap and delicious Middle Eastern eats served with a smile. Their Lamb & Chicken Shawarma on the Rocks is WAAAAY better than The Halal Guys (Bay Area locations) so I don't get why they're not busy. Perhaps, it's lack of branding or the ambiguous name but ShaQ definitely deserves more business than they're getting. If you're in the South Bay, give these guys a try! read more

These butter chicken fries were the bomb dot com!!!! Pretty heavy with a decent portion so be mindful of that if you plan on getting something else. Not only was the butter chicken curry on point but the fries themselves were also flavorful and perfectly crispy!
