What an absolutely amazing experience! It was time for my daughter to get her first haircut and we wanted it to be something special, so I looked around and found Sharkey's and I'm SO glad that we went here. Not only are the people who work here so nice and kind and patient with children, they're also very committed to getting the best possible haircut possible even on a squirmy three year old! I love that they were trying all sorts of tricks to get her to sit still, look the right direction, etc. and the car options are so cute!! A red racecar, a police car, and a pink Barbie car are available. There's a TV with DVDs or Netflix available to distract them, and the people who work here are so good with them. I honestly didn't know what to expect but we got great certificates for her first haircut, a lock of her hair in a little bag, and a before and after photo. Of course, we were also taking photos the whole time, but they didn't mind at all. After the haircut (they did a great job) my daughter got her nails painted, glitter hearts on her cheek, a balloon, AND they put her hair back in clips. All for under $30? I'm blown away. I highly recommend these guys to absolutely everyone and I know where my daughter will be going for years to come, because they also have video game stations for older kids!! My son (16 months) was in dire need of a haircut. He HATES haircuts but we couldn't go any longer without one. I called and made an appointment here. I actually showed up 15 minutes early and they happily took me early! The women at the front desk were so nice. I wish I remembered the name of the woman who cut my sons hair. She was AMAZING. She clearly knows how to work with screaming lunatic kids. I say that because my child was absolutely LOSING it. He was trying to crawl out of the chair, screaming, flailing his arms. You would have thought he was in a torture chair if you didn't know he was just getting his hair cut. She did a fantastic job and even managed to cut his hair evenly while he was going crazy! She even kept a calm happy attitude the entire time. I was incredibly impressed (and a little embarrassed). I would definitely recommend coming in here if your child needs a haircut. After waiting more than fifteen minutes past our appointment time, I got a call that our stylist was ready. I was willing to overlook the wait time because I thought that meant they were taking Covid seriously, but also sometimes you just run behind. I got my two year old out and masked and we walked into the salon where we were completely ignored by at least three employees. I witnessed one employee wearing her mask around her chin and another wearing it below her nose. When we were finally acknowledged, I let them know that we were leaving and would not be getting a hair cut. They called back five minutes later saying my stylist was ready and asked where we were. Absolutely appalling. Deborah was quite the disappointment. I saw that we were booked with her and after reading negative reviews about her I almost cancelled but decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. Immediately upon meeting her she told my 5 year old daughter in a rude tone " you can't sit in the Jeep you need to sit in a big girl chair". I explained to her that my daughter was very excited to sit in that Jeep and that was the whole reason why we came to a place like this. She said "Well, if you want me to give her a bad haircut then she can sit there". The way she spoke to my daughter was unacceptable. She lacked tact. she has no business working in a place that specializes in haircuts for kids. This is where we had come to get my girls first haircuts and had a great experience. My daughters hair was just as long and they had no problem allowing her to sit in the "fun chairs". As a parent , i like the result. nice haircut done and cool looking for a 5 yr old. does that mean kids like to get haircut ? no. you know it lol. I always made appt ahead and make sure i don't arrive late, as i see others had negative comments about this. My special needs child has sensory issues, and because of this I avoided getting her hair cut for over 2 years. It got to the point where I had to get it cut, so I called sharkey's, talked to the person on the phone about my child, and made an appointment. There is only one stylist there at a time, so making an appointment was a great decision. Regina was so sweet to my daughter and honored our requests for no blow dryer, no nail painting, etc and just stuck to the basic wash and haircut in the cute little car. No tears whatsoever and it was a stress-free experience. I will say that for kids who can't handle the "full" experience due to special needs, etc it would be nice for there to be a "no frills" option at a no frills cost, given that the parents order this up front. I was happy to pay for an easy experience, but $26 and change after tip is quite a chunk for a kid's haircut. Would definitely come back nonetheless. read more

Aweful place, there was no zero rating so I had to give 1 rating. It was my kids first haircut and had a very bad experience. The stylist didn't even make my kid comfortable, you have to try as it is their first haircut. She even did not cut properly, you can see the pictures. After the haircut she even did not try to clean my kids face or dress. We had to get a lint remover from front desk and started cleaning her. The car she was sitting was not vacuumed too after her cut, I asked them and they did not even respond properly. The only reason we take our kids to these places as they are professional and they make kids feel good. Erica was the stylist, not sure if all other stylist are the same or just the place is run by poor management!! We did not have an appointment for my three year old daughter when we went on a Sunday afternoon, but the ladies were super nice and got us in right away. Ms. Sylvia was very patient and kind when my kid was upset about getting her hair washed. The Barbie car seat went over famously with my daughter and the Barbie movie helped her to sit still while getting her hair cut. The package was $25 and included shampoo, cut, dry, style, fingernail polish, glitter stars (we opted for her hands instead of face), ring, balloon, and sucker. Every employee of the business made a point to speak with both me and my three year old, which made her feel very special. I called to see if they have any spots available for that afternoon, and the woman that answer the phone gave ma an appointment for 6:00pm. I got there 10 min earlier. One of the ladies came to the reception, and told me my appointment was at 6:15pm (it was not) but I agree to wait. At 6:30pm she told me she was almost done. By 6:45pm I decided to leave. Horrible customer service by the front desk. Extremely rude. We were running about 7 to 10 minutes late due to traffic. I even called from the car. The receptionist named "Katherine" refused to serve our appointment simply because we were a few minutes late (more than 5 minutes late was not acceptable according to her and we did not know). This "5 minute late appointment cancellation" policy was never mentioned when I made the appointment. I simply and honestly did not know, and we were a regular customer. My two small kids were looking forward to the haircut since they love this place and we also love the hair-stylists and salon people. In any business, customer service should come first. It hurts my heart to give this place less than a 5. Renee is the only person worth going to. She is caring, wonderful and patient (Hence the 3 stars instead of 1) . She was sick today so we got Deborah... and because of her we will not be returning. She was short with my 5 year old, and basically yelling at him when he would move. She would shove his head down and told him to "stop running me over" when we would push the gas on the car they get to sit in. Ordinarily that would be funny, but she was genuinely annoyed.) She got frustrated when he couldn't tell her if he wanted to play a game or watch a movie (he has a speech delay and doesn't understand questions sometimes- depending how they are asked), and when he requested a different movie she said "nope, sorry" even though there were 30 movies on the wall next to us. She made me extremely uncomfortable the way she spoke to my child and I was very happy when the cut was over so we could pay and get the heck out of there. I didn't even review my sons hair cut, because I didn't want to spend another minute with this woman. My question to her, if you don't enjoy children, why Work at a CHILDREN'S hair place? Horrible! I could've been a new client for life and this was my first experience with this place. There was a huge accident right outside of their parking lot and I was 7 minutes late. They called me and I said I'm trying to park and I walked up 7 minutes late for my appointment that would include hair and nails for $27 for my daughter. As soon as I walked, not even inside their establishment , the hairstylist runs out and says "I can't do your daughters nails." I said no problem but what will be the price now that that is not part of the package. She said that the price will stay the same as they have their appointments in 30 minute allotments and that I should have called if I was going to be late (which I didn't call because I was driving stuck in a parking lot and driving while talking on the phone is very unsafe). They were very rude unprofessional and makes absolutely no sense because they lost their customer anyway in their 30 minute allotment. And by the way the salon was completely empty other than the employees that were there so I'm not quite sure how "busy" they were. read more

If you want a unfinished/ incomplete hair cut then this is the place to go. Don't use Kim as the designated "professional" who actually has no skills to handle a toddler or cut hair. Let alone cut hair properly, she doesn't even stand on the proper side while cutting hair. They are more interested in rushing your kid out to see more clients then do a proper hair cut. read more

We made an appointment for a cut at this location. We arrived 8 minutes late for the scheduled appointment and were told as soon as we checked in, there is a 5 minute grace period and after that you have to reschedule. I apologized and told the receptionist I wasn't aware of the policy of "5 minutes grace period" as this was our first time at this location. She went to ask the stylist who was just finishing up her current client if she could take our appointment (keep in mind this is 4:10)and she rudely responded, "theres a reason we have a 5 min grace period, NO, they will need to reschedule". I then asked her, "would you have been ready for us at 4, since you are just now finishing up on this client?". She changed the subject and said, it's not fair to the person who has a 4:30 appointment and is on time to make them wait while we cut your child's hair". That still didn't answer my question. If we had arrived at 4, we would have had to wait until 4:10 to get the haircut anyway. The stylist was extremely rude and didn't know how to respond in a way that shows she cares about customer service or retention. Anyway, it was a good thing it happened, because we found another place called "Groovy Cuts for Kids" which had amazing service and facility. I took my 3 year old daughter here for a cut this afternoon. Being the middle of the week and during school hours, I didn't expect it to be busy. When we walked in, we were met by a friendly stylist. I told her my daughter needed a cut and she responded with the times we could come back later the same afternoon. I looked around and saw one child sitting in the chair. The salon was empty! I asked if we could wait until she was finished with the first child and she said she was the only stylist there today and had no available times until later. I agree with a previous reviewer--they should specify that appointments are preferred if they can't accommodate walk-ins. I don't live very close so coming back was not a convenient option. Had I known I needed to schedule an appointment, I would have done that before driving all the way there. I took the advice of a previous reviewer who had the same problem and went to Snip Its. We were helped right away and my daughter got a super cute cut! I would love to try Sharky's some time but was pretty put off by the response I got today. They really need to specify that they require appointments. read more

They made her feel like a princess, she got her nails done and her first "big girl" haircut. They even gave her a balloon and a lollipop ring and they painted her face. I'm in tears writing this... I sincerely hope this spares another parent the frustration/sadness/anger. Took my 18 month old here for his 4th haircut. His first three haircuts were done by a stylist we loved at a big "athletic-themed" chain of salons, but when I called for an appointment, I found out she no longer worked there. I took my son to the barber shop in our small town, but he was busy and the two boys I saw in there had really short hair, so I got nervous. My son has beautiful curly hair, and even after 3 cuts, the curls came back...because our old stylist DID WHAT I ASKED HER TO. The lady at Sharkey's asked me what I wanted and I told her just a little bit off (very light trim) to get it out of his eyes, but to please not cut off his curls. SHE CUT OFF ALL OF HIS CURLS. She even had the nerve to say that now he looks like he is supposed to look...like a toddler, not a baby. I am appalled... Please DO NOT take your child there if you have a specific cut in mind...they will do whatever they want to do anyway. read more

I worked at Sharkeys Cuts for Kids for 3 years. I no longer work there because of unrelated reasons but I have to say, for those bad reviews. Any stylist that works in a kids salon is a Saint. This was by far the most difficult job as a stylist that there is, so keep in mind that they are working with sharp scissors around very wiggly and often screaming children. They get hit, pushed and spit on by the children not to mention how rude some parents can be. Yet the stylist are professionals and most of the time still give a good cut. So give the ladies some slack. They only get a 30 min break and work from open to close. Occasionally a haircut will not turn out perfect, but 9 times out of 10 it's pretty close. As far as the 5min grace period for appointment, if you are later than that the people that walk in for appointments will give bad reviews if the stylist is doing nothing while they are waiting for an appointment that is late instead of taking their child in place of the one that has not showed up. read more

I decided to try a new place for my son. Drove up a little before 1:30pm and found a sign on the door saying "out to lunch, re-opens at 2pm". Killed the time and went back shortly after 2pm to see that the door was still locked. Someone came up and unlocked it as we were going back to the car, but even though the place was empty, I apparently couldn't get my son a haircut before 3:30pm. If you close for lunch, put up the time so people don't show up. If you are appointment only, you should say so. Fortunately, Snip-Its was less than a mile away and had no wait. I love Sharkey's Cuts for Kids. We have been going to Sylvia since my son's First haircut which was 4 years ago. She is wonderful with the kids and always does a great job with her haircuts. My son has thick hair and still is wiggly in the chair. Still you can always count on her for a great job. She is incredibly patient.
