A gentlemen came over and said "hello Michael, I am Moses. Tell me what is going on with the car." He listened intently. Asked a few questions. "Michael, let me get to work." Another gentlemen came over. "Michael, I am Sol. We are going to take care of you. We will call you in about an hour." I am car stupid. Moses called with the diagnoses and clearly communicated the problem and the estimated cost. After the work was complete the final bill was a little over 9% less than the estimate! When I came to pick up the car a problem was discovered at the last minute. Moses and Sol explained the problem would be hard to discover earlier. My heart sank. More money. Sol said "Michael, we are going to take care of you. This is on us. we didn't catch it. We are going to replace the part at no charge." I would take my car back to Bay's. I think he was scheduling a couple weeks out. The day of, I dropped my car off around 9am and came to pick it up around 4pm. Plan to leave your car as there isn't really a waiting area. If you walk about 10-15min you can find a coffee shop. It's also on a bus line if you want to take transit somewhere. Tony is very friendly. The oil change was reasonably priced at $88 before taxes. Prior to setting up his own business, he worked in a machine shop that specialized in rebuilding air-cooled VW engines. In short, he knows these engines inside and out. Aside from his mechanical prowess, he is also an extremely conscientious, and totally trustworthy guy. He'll tell you, for example, if you really need to jump on a fix or can safely put it off for awhile. He'll also try to find alternative solutions that will save you money, if money is a concern. Some of the other things I've learned about Mike over the years: he has an MA in Comparative Literature, he's an accomplished pianist (maybe one reason you can almost always hear classical music when you visit his shop), and he's an avid hiker and camper.
