The Slice Shop is located very close to the CTA Brown/Red Line station. My lovely wife and I stopped in over the weekend for a slice each after we enjoyed a comedy show in my old 'hood. Ordering is easy peasy - look at the big menu at the counter, or stare at the pizza on display behind glass and choose what you want. This is described as "grandma style" pizza - I suppose that is similar to squares of crispy pan pizza I have had in other establishments. The slices are typically around $5 each, so it's not a bad deal if you want a nice little snack here. You can ask them to add extras such as olive oil, pecorino cheese, basil, and Mike's Hot Honey at no additional cost. I liked these extras on my slice of Italian sausage pizza, though the red pepper flakes did make me nearly choke! I tried my love's pepperoni slice and it was good, though she had to dab a bunch of grease off the top. The manager came by and actually offered to give me another slice of pizza because he said mine did not appear to have enough sauce on it, but I was fine with my square. I'd say The Slice Shop is not a destination restaurant, but if you are in Lakeview it's a good idea to drop in for a tasty square of pizza. read more

I tried The Slice Shop across the street from the Belmont "L" Station. I ordered a slice for here and one to go. I decided on a Chicago-standard slice of Italian Sausage and cheese. Their pizza comes in squares and resembles a typical Sicilian thick slice with charred cheese around the edges that you would expect on a slice of Detroit's "Jets Pizza." They are sparse on the sausage, but it makes it up because the pieces are slightly more significant than the usual thin crust slice. It is a simple, no-frills place; the order taker was pleasant and will get you in and out quickly. On my way to the bathroom, I noticed a large "Red Mills" bag with which I imagine they make the pizza dough. Red Mills is expensive, which made me feel good about not paying more for a premium product, which scored points with me. If you are in the neighborhood, try it, you won't be disappointed. read more

Had this post concert. Was literally 5 stars amazing. Soooo flavorful and super quick too even at 11pm. They had the "everything in it" option. Which had olive oil, basil, hot honey, and a couple other things. Was honestly the best pizza I've had in Chicago. Would totally come back . Some of the best pizza I have had in Chicago! I love the thick grandma style squares, the slices are huge and the crust is both fluffy and crispy. I walked in around 6 on a Wednesday evening and the space was pretty empty but there are so many tables for eating in too which is nice. I got my pizza to go and it came in a perfect half size pizza box which was also a nice touch. I love that it's the same owners as the shop next door too. I got the vodka slice and the pepperoni slice, obviously with "everything on it." The addition of the hot honey was phenomenal, and I can't decide which I liked more because they were both so good. Pretty good pizza. I saw in the window that it was featured on barstool sports and watched the video. I thought it was Detroit style pizza originally which has a fried bottom layer but I guess it's grandma style-Sicilian. Which the bread taste is more like artisanal bread like a ciabatta. It's about a half inch thick. They have their standard topics garlic oil, pecorino, red pepper, hot honey, & fresh basil which was all tasty. I got two slices of pepperoni with everything. Pretty tasty, on the bready side but good. I'd probably be ok with one slice. Dine in or take out. Service was pretty fast too. Great alternative between deep dish and thin pizza. This place is such a gem! I'm happy there's a locally owned spot in the neighborhood that regularly offers pizza by the slice. It's Grandma Style Pizza and incredible! I have never had Grandma Style Pizza until I came to The Slice Shop. I usually get a side of ranch too. You order at the counter and can order to-go or grab a table. They also have a large variety of sodas available. Every employee I've interacted with has been kind and helpful. My experience has been wonderful each time! Not sure if this particular slice I had was extra special or what, but this was such a satisfying slice of italian beef - all around in texture, flavor and value! I recall coming here when they first opened and while good then, seemed even better now. I enjoy the "everything" topping option. They have great offerings and affordable as well. You wouldn't think much from an extension of the convenience store next door esp. choosing to do pizza in the land of pizza, but they got something good (and different)! Their family run staff are always such a delight as well. It was just what I needed for a late lunch that didn't ruin my dinner. It was also a good sign when even coming in at an odd hour around 4pm, that a rush of various customers piled in shortly behind me. Definitely will be incorporating The Slice Shop in the za mix.
