Absolutely amazing place and location to stay if you are looking for awesome hikes and waterfalls. The customer service here is like no other. As soon as we walked in the door at 11:15pm, just 15 min before closing, the owner informed us on all the waterfalls and recommended his personal favorites that were just around the area. He genuinely cares about his job and customers, and made us feel so welcome. Everyone that worked here was so kind and attentive and ensured that our stay was comfortable. Unfortunately we had a family emergency and had to leave one day early, and the owner promptly gave us a refund without us even asking for it. I will recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to stay to explore this area of Northern California! read more

Charming motel, friendly owners, good location if you're passing through or staying in the area. We're winging on this trip so we found this motel around 8pm on a Thur and hoped for the best. We received a warm welcome during our check in, where owner suggested things to do near by, which was nice. Our room was quaint, cute with little decor, although has an outdated look, but you can tell they try to add a little extra. The bed and pillows were comfortable, but we found it odd the blanket wasnt on the bed, was up in the closet and didnt smell fresh. The room was cold so we had to use it. There are minimal power outlets so were thankful we brought our own multi-plug outlet from home. Those are our only complaints. We thought this place had charm, with the beautiful trees on the grounds, even has a large parrot cage area with koi pond. We both agreed we would return here again. read more

Still love this motel! We stay here probably once or twice a year for days at a time. The owners are amazing and accommodating. The location is perfect for the outdoor lovers. The rooms are cozy and some are dog friendly and you really can't beat the prices. read more

Dirty. Went to use the bathroom first thing and all the hand towels were dirty and had like makeup all over them. Then I pulled down the top blanket to lay down for a bit and black dirt like stuff was all over - on both beds!!! Then I thought about taking a shower but there was hair all over the bottom of the shower! I'm definately not feeling very comfortable here. Wouldn't come here again AND if they'd refund me now I'd leave!! Forgot my pillow, had to drive back to get it. The owner said he cleaned the room himself, and there was no pillow, then as he walked away he said, if you hadn't written a bad review I could have helped you out with your pillow. He retaliated against me for complaining about how dirty the room was. Then tried to blame me for the dirty room, which again had bed bug dust in both beds and make up all over the towels. When I arrived about eight guys were in the courtyard outside of the rooms, blasting music & drinking. I was a woman alone. I expressed my concerns -specifically about safety as the guys were getting drunk- to the owner. She said they were in town for a painting job and were nice guys. She also said their music would be off by 9 PM. It's 10:20 PM as I write this review. They are drunkenly yelling and blasting music. (And when I say blasting, mean Blasting.) I'm thinking about grabbing my stuff and getting the heck out of here, except now I'm afraid to leave my room because it is dark and these guys are all over the courtyard which is right outside my room. EDIT: 10:27, I called the owner. She said she would ask them to turn the music off. It was turned down for five minutes then back up. Called the owner again, she listened, then she hung up on me. Forget this! I called 911 and told them I'm afraid to leave my room and go to my car, I ask for a squad card to come by to be a presence while I get out of here. Police came. They ended up arresting at least one person. The owner never called me to apologize or offer a refund for my loud, long, scary night. I saw no reason to go to the office and speak to her, the lack of responsiveness said enough. read more

My room was filthy. The most concerning were the blood stains, yellow spots, hair, and dead bugs I saw in the sheets. I called the owner and asked for replacement sheets, which also had blood stains. He told me I could leave for a refund but it was 11:30 at night. I also saw dust bunnies on the floor, saw two big black beetles during my brief stay, small moths, and flies. The place wasn't kept up well - a tile was missing from the bathroom floor and a bathroom wall was half painted. I would never stay here again and would recommend you not either. The walls were also thin and I could hear my neighbor's TV. read more

You get what you pay for here - in a good way! PROs: Fast and easy check in. Great Value and Location. I thought the bed was comfy. Relatively clean. Nice touches like complimentary soap and shampoo. If you can afford to go elsewhere, you should. But everything else around here was really expensive. Cheaper in Redding, if you don't mind the 1 hour drive to Shasta. It was 105F and the AC barely works. Fortunately it cools down at night. Holes in the towels. Barely cold fridge. Room as minimal as you can imagine. In walking distance to TWO amazing waterfalls. In the heart of the Mt Shasta forest. $10 fee for dog or cat. Comfortable bed and nice towels. All for under $80 - you would be crazy not to stay here in a pinch / overnight on your way to wherever. I stayed here last night on my way from Washington to Arizona. This place wasn't the most up to date motel I have ever been in, but it's more than I expected for the price. Most important part was the bed was extremely comfortable, I slept like a rock. They have a cool bird enclosure outside that was cool to see before we took off on our trip. The hotel I am staying at tonight is making me consider turning around and driving 7 hours back to this place. Great location, right off the 5! The woman at the front desk was incredibly kind and informative, offering me recommendations for dinner with a cheery disposition. The rooms are simple, clean, and cozy. Like staying at a grandparents house. There is AC and heat in the room, and you can drop your key in the drop box if you take off early. Rustic describes it outward appearance, but we were more than pleased with the room and the service. Especially in it's price range. When I realized that the rain was going to keep us from driving through the night, I started looking for a place to stop. Unfortunately, the cell service was spotty and kept getting cut off when I tried to call. But, they kept calling me back and was able to get my name and held a room for us. DOG FRIENDLY! Peaceful hotel to be in. Nice spot since it's close to the freeway so it's easy to drive in and out. About 5 mins away from the towns Main Street. They have a big cage with birds. I don't think they clean under the bed since we found a sock. Everything else was clean though as far as we could tell. I believe the front desk staff is the owner. It was just OK and we wouldn't stay here again. Here's the thing, it is so charming on the outside, a great vintage motel. Sadly, the inside was not great. Don't get me wrong, it was clean and spacious enough with a mini fridge and micro. But sooooo dated and old. Old carpet that I didn't want to walk on in bare feet. Old art, curtains and bedding. The thing is, it wouldn't take much to spruce up the inside and this place would be great. Take out that carpet and put in laminate. Please! They're pet friendly and the check in was easy. read more

I'm in Dunsmuir for a week on a fishing trip. The Cedar Lodge has good rates for this area. Through research, I found the other motels in the area to be quite over priced for what they offer. I was greeted by a very welcoming family who run the place, actually getting into a nice conversation with them about the area and a little bit of the families background, they are Pakistani. I booked a queen, for the week. The room was very clean with a fridge and microwave, coffee and other standard accouterments. Unfortunately, there was an issue with the bed, it was sagging in the middle, and when I talked with the owners they quickly moved me/upgraded me to a larger king room with a perfect bed. I think they were unaware of the mattress condition, and who knows how it happened, as the king is very comfortable and in great condition and they were very apologetic. The king room is a nice size with a larger fridge than queen. It also has a little coffee/ breakfast nook area that makes the room very functional. There is a little aviary on sight with parrots and cockatoos that people seem to get a kick out. There is an outside sitting area near it that I have seen folks sitting at and enjoying themselves politely. Overall, this is a good motel, with owners I would love to support again. read more

A quiet place to spend the night in a neat little town. Room was very small but was clean. Pillows were not comfortable. Bathroom was very tiny as was the shower. One negative was the heat did not seem to have a thermostat so it stayed on until you turned it off. Made regulating the room temperature difficult. However the owner was pleasant and offered information about area dining and the price was extremely reasonable. We would stay again if traveling in the area. read more

Comfortable and friendly owner My husband and I stayed at the lodge this past Monday thru last night. The room was nice, roomy and clean and had a fridge and microwave, which came in handy. Also had air conditioning, which we liked as the weather was quite warm. It is conveniently located near Mount Shasta and also very close to Hedgecreek Falls. The owner, Sylvia, provided helpful tips on where to eat and interesting places to visit in the area and was very personable. Would stay there again. read more

We were so grateful to find this extremely clean, quiet, and serenely located gem after a long day of travel. Our room was huge with a flat screen TV that my children enjoyed. The aviary was an unexpected treat. The family who own this motel clearly love what they do and it shows. Beautiful and well run property! Short version: Did not honor confirmed booking and asked me to find new hotel Long version: The receptionist told us right off that he does not have the room we had booked 10 days ahead (I had confirmation) and can't accommodate us when we arrived. He blamed it on booking.com for overbooking him and did not see any problem in his own book keeping. I have had overbooking with booking.com before, but then the owner has called me right after booking moment and notified me about it and the problem was solved. He was just slandering booking.com all the time while he was going through pile of printed out booking documents and could not find anything. He was very grumpy and upset and did not know how to handle the situation. He said that other hotels would not give rooms for his customers even if they have availability and I should call form my own number. That tells you already that he has systematic problem which was confirmed by the other place I went to. He asked me to call around at the location and see if I can find another hotel in the town. He did offer me a number to call which had an availability luckily. read more

The motel is old and small. The room was clean but very small, approximately 9'x12' with a tiny shower. The staff were friendly but were unable to direct us to a cafe for breakfast. It was cheap, clean, and marginally adequate. read more

Do no stay here! People at check in are very nice. That's the only good thing! Quick check-in is good. We stayed here beginning of April. When we got to the room, it was freezing cold. Looked to see where the central heat would come from. NONE! The guy at the front desk said if they heaters "may" not be working, they have space heaters and work very well. What a joke! That was outright lie. The space heaters did not keep us warm at all. You literally had to stand in front of it to keep warm. I was hoping to get nice a warm and comfy room after our long drive from Washington. The bed was comfy but no extra blankets at all. Good thing we brough our own blankets. We had to wrap ourselves in our own blankets to stay warm. The only wall heater that worked was in the bathroom. And that looked like an old '70's coiled wall heater. Worked better than the space heaters, that's for sure!! I was hoping to take nice, hot shower in the AM to warm up and wake up for the next leg of our journey. The water was barely warm. More like room temperature. Woke me up for sure. We kept the heater on in the bathroom to keep us warm. Then I tried to blow dry my hair (cuz it was cold/snowing outside), I blew a fuse. Could not believe it. That was our last straw. The guy fixed it right away. But by that time, we just had had it already and waned to get the h*#@ outta there. We booked this room for the kitchenette but said fugetboutit in the AM. Packed our car with the quickness and took off! I don't know if summertime is better but I would not book here ever again. I would pay the extra for some good ol' heat. The rooms are super outdated and some of the outlets don't even work. So take your chances. It may be quant and better in the summertime but NOT in winter. You get what you pay for! read more

The front office lady was pretty rude on the phone and even more so in person. I arrived exactly at the check in time that was specified and had to wait in my car for an additional half hour. No pool/hot tub, no complementary breakfast, the hotel front office very rarely accepts phone calls from not only current but prospective customers as i had to call numerous times to get ahold of someone to get a room/information. First off the beds were comfy, though the pillows were horrible. The rooms are pretty small and difficult darken if you gotta sleep during the day. The tv was extremely small, especially considering how far away from the head of the bed they are. The wifi was absolutely atrocious, completely unusable. The showers were extremely small, water pressure was very minimal. Despite getting a good deal on a queen size room, compared to other nearby hotels, i will likely not return to this establishment. read more

The room was a bit small, as was the bathroom, but the room was clean, the bed was soft (a little too soft for us), and you could make the room very dark. I am very picky when it comes to hotels/motels, etc. I travel with lysol wipes and clean everything before I let my kids inside. I took a chance on this place as it was a halfway point on my drive home to LA. I couldn't have been happier! The room was SPOTLESS. The decor was dated but in a charming way and literally sparkling clean. Even the carpet was spotless and plush. The room smelled fresh too. The family who owns the place are absolutely lovely. This was the only last minute booking I could find Memorial Day weekend, but I got lucky, and I was taken aback by the quaint, cozy atmosphere at half the rate of other places. The cabin-style room was very clean and better looking than many I've booked recently. You would not get this kind of quality for this price anywhere in county.
