My dog came out of Shauna's Paw Spa with an excoriated butt that required a dog cone to keep him from licking it along antibiotic & steroid ointments for a week . He also hid from us the moment he got home & shook for 2 days. He was absolutely miserable. The groomers all seemed like nice people but they will never touch my dog again. I want to start by saying I would never leave a review for another groomer unless it was warranted, and even then, it sucks to have to write this-- but I feel after 2 negative incidents occurring with my client pups that went to her I felt it necessary to provide insight to prospective clients of hers. I also was unable to locate her on Google or Facebook, it seems the only place a review can be left is here, on Yelp. Recently I had health issues and a few surgeries where I had to take short breaks from grooming, so my clients had to go to another groomer in the meantime to maintain their dogs. Both of these clients dogs (one owns a doodle and the other a poodle) I've worked with for a few years now and they are a couple of my BEST clients when it comes to staying on top of grooming appointments, and frequent brushing/coat maintenance between appointments with me. Both dogs are extremely well behaved during the grooming process, and the poodle I've worked with since she was a puppy. The first client that told me about their experience here was extremely upset; when she dropped off her male doodle she gave the same grooming instructions she does with me, which are quite simple, but she picked up her dog and he was shaved extremely short (likely a 7FC blade) and was incredibly uneven where he had major divots and random long straggly hairs everywhere, and she shaved his tail what looked to be an attempted lion tail style. It looked awful. He also had clipper burns on his upper thighs and sanitary area, which caused him to lick and gnaw which led to some pretty awful sores. The second client with the female poodle was more recently, and she had the exact same experience; shaved extremely short, chunked out coat, and random long scraggly hairs throughout the body with an attempted lions tail style. It's clear to me that she shaved these dogs down very quickly/sloppily and made zero attempt to scissor after to even anything out. It was also clear that neither of the dogs nails were trimmed, and the poodles ears weren't touched at all. The reason she gave both clients for this was that their dogs were extremely matted. As I said, both of these clients stay on a regular schedule with me, and both are phenomenal at maintaining the coat. I've never seen a single mat on either of them. It was also suspicious to me that there could've been any possible matting when the ears clearly were untouched, yet when she brought her female poodle to me to fix up the groom I was able to easily brush through the ears, per usual, and trim them like normal. Ears are typically highly prone to matting, so if there was matting I would expect to see it there. I did receive consent and encouragement from both of these clients to leave this review. The only upside for each of them was that she was equally affordable, and was able to get them both in on pretty short notice. After reading the other negative reviews here, I would personally steer clear. There are plenty of other local groomers that will put a lot more effort and care into making sure your dog has a completed groom. read more

I had my big olde english sheepdog groomed here and they did a fine job and the price was on par with everyone else. Actually I think the price is about $10 more, but I'll pay the extra money because of the extra service this place provides. I really appreciate that they have a pet taxi, bc of this service my dog gets a ride home for free (but we did tip the driver). Since I have a little child it's hard for me to bring my dog and pick him up on the days I would have time to pick him up, so the taxi is worth it for me. Bc of this service I can now drop off my dog before I go to work and my husband (on days he's caring for my daughter) can be home to let my dog inside. This is easier for me than having to bring my 100+ dog inside while holding my baby. Shauna's is right next to Mountainside Fitness, it's right in Surprise so if you live in Surprise this place will be easy to get to. I also thought the service was great too. I'll definitely be taking my dog back here the next time he needs to get groomed. read more

I have been taking my own two Shitzu to Shauna's Paw Spa for almost a year now. My sister recommended her because she loves the way they treat her poodle and Schnauzer and I was unhappy with The Stock Shop. One of my dogs has neurological problems and at Shauna's they are very gentle. There has only been once that there was too much drying powder in their ears. We usually like to schedule all four on the same day so that they can hang out and it makes it less stressful for them. I think that their prices are very good given that they don't take credit cards, cash only. I have never used their pet sitting service. The only thing that I would advise is to ask to see the kennel area as you would with anyone else and make sure they have an actively reporting fire/smoke monitoring service for overnight stays. read more

I stopped in here today to get my dogs nails trimmed. Ordinarily that would not be an event but my dog hates having her nails clipped - to the point that she will snap at someone. The people were so nice here and it was a lot less traumatic for my dog than it has been in the past. They do grooming and sitting services as well. It's kind of tucked away behind the Sonic at Bell and Reems so you might miss it if you don't know where to look. The prices seemed quite reasonable and the place was clean. The staff seemed very friendly but it was hard to hear over some noisy dogs. I was not impressed, however, when they lacked to check records of vaccinations for my pups since I was a new customer. Additionally, I did not like the free roam all of the dogs had (many were using the floor as a bathroom and not being taken outside) which concerns me as far as house training goes. The prices are are very affordable and they did a great job. My boys look amazing! But the only way I will go back is if I can drop them off in their kennels which is where they will stay until being groomed and after. read more

We love Shauna's doggy day care! It's close to home, and her hours are convenient. And she offers half day services which are quite useful when you just need to run a few errands but don't want a crazy puppy on your hands when you get home! Let me start by saying, the first two times taking my dog to Shauna's were amazing. The lady who did my first consultation, was extremely thorough. She asked me about every detail of how I wanted my dog cut. See, I am a hairdresser, and am extremely picky on how I want my dogs hair cut. I became her groomer for two years when everyone I took her to was making her look ridiculous. I thought, hey, I can make her look silly for free! But I digress. So after her first time being groomed by a professional, she looked amazing. It was the best she ever looked. I was sold. The second time she looked even better. I couldn't believe it!! My baby was the prettiest girl on the block! I guess I got a little too cocky. The third time, I took her, I told the same lady do exactly what you did last time. And remember, don't touch her beard. When I got the call to pick her up, it was a different lady who called to tell me she was ready. And lady said "so you know, I cut off her beard". I said "seriously?" And she said "yes, I didn't read the directions, and I didn't want you to be alarmed when you got here". No "sorry", no "I'm having a really bad day, my husband just left me". No "I never learned to read, therefore I couldn't read the directions". No "I'm sorry, I am just plain stupid." Needless to say, I was devastated. Oh yes, there were tears. My dog looked HORRIBLE. She even cut off one side of her eyelashes, and left the other. Her hair was so short, you could see her skin. It was worse than what I would have done. And I'm only trained in peoples hair. The plus side was I did not have to pay for the service. And I was assured that if I brought her back, this would NEVER happen again. But I won't. I am back to part time groomer. And this makes me sad. After five months of grow out, her beard is about 2 1/2 inches long, and she is looking like my dog again. YAY. read more

I just adopted the cutest dog who was shaved due to matting but they left all the fur on his chin, giving him one of those cheesy goatees that creepy guys have. Even though the location isn't the closest to me, I brought him to Shauna's because she had excellent reviews online. It was almost closing time but she was very accommodating. She didn't use sedatives or yell at my dog. I think the previous reviewer was harsh on the business as a whole because of one disgruntled employee (who no longer works at Shauna's). She did an excellent job and since it was a quick trim, she didn't even charge me and just asked for donations to the rescue. I could tell how much she loves dogs from the way she interacted with my dog and the other pets there. The place is clean and it was great how my dog could socialize with others. I use to bring my pup there until they were dishonest and then the owner did not want to meet with me so I could talk about my concerns. The original reason I brought my pup here was because they didn't put them in little cages... they got to play with other dogs of their own size. Said they had different areas for big dogs and little dogs etc. Well I dropped off my pup for her appointment, which usually does not take more then 2 hours. After 2 1/2 hours with no call I decided to just stop in. They were shocked to see me. They said the groomer was running behind because she got bit by another dog. I was like okay I just wish someone would of called to tell me that. However, before I left I wanted to see my pup (who was whinning horribly) they said she was fine and I said no I want to see her. To my surprise she was in a cage and when I asked why they said because the other dogs kept bothering her and wouldn't listen when we told them to leave her alone. My question was why then did you not put the big dogs in there area and have her in the little dog area (seemed fishy to me) They said well it was for her safety. Okay so why is she being punished for what the other dogs are doing. Then the lady said well if we would have known it was your dog we would not have done it. So you would be dishonest and not nice to someone elses dog. I was upset. However, I needed her hair cut. So I waited out in the car and then came back in and her hair was all jacked up. The lady said it was because her hand hurts. Okay one if you can't do it then tell me that... don't do her hair and make it all messed up. My yorkie looked a mess. Well, I left and then called the next day to talk to Shauna who kept avoiding me wanting to come in and show her what happend to my dog and did not give me a refund. She kept saying to just call her and she would let me know if she's available. My problem is if you really cared about my dog or my concerns then you would make time and schedule some time for me to come in. I was available at any time during the week and on top of that I said I could wait till she was done with clients for the day too. I gave her ample chance to resolve the issue, but she did not. I stopped bringing my pup there and have mobile groomers come now. After removing my pup from there I ran in to many other dog owners at the park who said they stopped bringing their dogs there because they would surprise visit to find their dog being locked up or not taken care of properly. It's worth making surprise visits to try and see what is going on. read more

I took my Springer Spaniel to Shauna for boarding as well as grooming. Shauna was warm and friendly and my dog took to her right away. So much so that when I picked her up two days later she acted as if she didn't want to leave. Despite the fact that there were several dogs in the front room, I didn't sense any type of doggy smell. It is obvious that she loves not only her own dogs, but the dogs that she cares for as well. She's pretty good with people too! :-) Because I was kind of unsure as to how have my dog's hair cut I left it pretty much up to Shauna. When I picked up my dog, Shauna had done a beautiful job grooming her. I still consider myself a fairly new dog owner and Shauna took the time to ask me about how I wanted my dog groomed as well as made suggestions that she thought might be helpful. She also provided me with a few tips for caring for and walking my dog. Her prices were great and I appreciate the fact that she lives only five minutes from me. I am so happy to have found Shauna and I will definitely take my dog to her again. read more

Our dog died hours after being in the care of Shawna's Paw Spa. This business might not be at the location your remember, but it is still operating out of a home. We boarded our 3 dogs with Shawna for 2 nights this June 2013. Phoenix was having a heat wave with temps at 119. I asked and was assured the dogs would be indoors except for pee time. We recieved a call at 1:30pm the second day,saying that our older dog threw up. We said no problem we were about 2 hours away. One hour later she called again and asked if she could bring him to her vet, as she was heading there for other dogs anyway. We said , no we would be there soon and take him to our vet. She called back a few minutes later and said she had to, that the dog was not going to make it until we got there. What? I thought he just threw up? A vet we never met called us a short time later, saying our dog had a mass in his abdomen. ? His own vet never suggested such a thing. I said, it is 119 out, he could be dehydrated, please be sure he gets IV fluid until we arrive. The vet said he had better thing to do than that and he was closing early (3pm). We made arrangements to meet Shawna at the nearest ER, arriving at 330pm. We opened the car door and there to our shock, was our youngest doggie, in a coma on the back seat. She has known these dogs for over a year, did all their grooming and boarding and didn't even know their correct names. The girl with her, admitted that our Hutchie actually started throwing up the night before. ER worked on him into the night, he never regained consciousness. He was extremely dehydrated, fever 107, extremely rapid pulse, coma, panting, bloody diarrhea. He died at around midnight. It was obvious heat stroke in its final stages. The vet said if he survived, they would look to be sure there was no additional health issue, but he felt no mass in his abdomen. He did not survive. We notified Shawna in the morning that he was dead. To this day, she has never responded in any form. She has expressed no sympathy or explaination as to what occurred while our baby was in her care. When you leave your pets, this is your worst nightmare. I wish we could step back in time, and would not have trusted our dogs to her care. RIP my Hutchinson, our beautiful Polish Lowland Sheep baby. After a disagreement with my husband on s pick up time for our dog, we were shocked to find out Shawna called the poodle rescue to come and take our dog after a grooming. She never called to tell us she had done such a horrible thing and we called the shop and went to the shop only to find it locked up and no phone calls being answered. She finally called to tell us she did this after we contacted the police. We got our dog back with no explanation from Shawna. Stay clear of this place. A friend had her dogs' ear cut in half and found it days later to have been crazy glued back on with a mass infection. They were never told this incident had happened. In all fairness, our incident occurred over a year ago but felt it necessary to post now due to continued complaints from people about their service. Just want to keep all dogs safe! read more

It was my first time taking my dog to Shauna's Paw Spa. My dog is very fluffy and has an undercoat. My one request with his haircut was to NOT shave any of his fur. When I picked him up he seemed okay. His haircut looked nice. But when I got home and he laid down and rolled over on his back, I could see that his tummy and private parts had been shaved to the skin. He has multiple raw spots. Of course, they are now worse from him licking. So had to put him in the cone of shame. Hoping we don't end up at the vet for these hot spots. When I let Shauna know what was going on, she didn't apologize or take responsibility in any way. She just tried to tell me that after his grooming was complete, he slept the whole time. She said she never saw him licking or showing any signs of discomfort. All she did was suggest I put some cortisone cream on it and get him an e collar. Bottom line, I asked her NOT to shave him and she did. And it is literally her job to know better than to shave a dog with an undercoat. Needless to say I won't be going back. read more

Terrible place -spread the word please We have a Therapy Dog , Aussie an Austrailian Shephard, and my husband took him to get trimmed and a bath and I was out of town. We had Aussie bathed there once before and it seemed OK. They did such a terrible job this time using the clippers and giving him many spots on his skin that were bald and near breaking the skin. He had uneven layers all over and they even took a clippers to his legs which made him very sore. They don't know how to trim a dog at all. They don't scissor finish a dog they just zoom away with the clippers and on to the next poor pup. ALL ABOUT THE MONEY! I was so embarassed with the grooming that I didn't take him for his visit to the assisted care home. They told my husband it would be 3-3 1/2 hours to do him which is about right but he was done in less than 2 hours - we could see why. Also they put Aussie in the bathroom afterwards. This is supposed to be a cage free place. I have a friend that is a groomer but she can't groom much anymore due to an injury. She came over to look at Aussie and she agreed that those spots that were without hair was due to clippers. She took some time and scissor blended Aussies' coat and he looks so much better. We brought him into Shauna's to show them his grooming and they denied that they did the clipper burns. Also the reason why he was locked up in the bathroom because he was putting paws up on the table and instead of telling Aussie NO, DOWN or something like that they just locked him up. Aussie is a very well trained Therapy Dog and it was not acceptable for him to be locked up in a strange bathroom. She said "What else am I supposed to do with him?" Apparently she doesn't know a darn thing about training. They offered my money back and to never bring the dog back again and I told them that was our plan anyway and took my money - unfortunately they didn't refund the tip.. They also have a cage free kennel sevice there and they take the dogs home at night. Never heard of that and if they can't take control of the dogs in the shop whate is happening to them in the house. I shudder just thinking about it. They should be closed down. read more

Poor customer service by the owner, Shauna! They cut/clipped my Pomeranian so close that his hair has not come back or ever will, on his back and on his tail! I read online, this should NEVER be done to a Pom. I called Shauna about this, and she told me, it is NOT her fault. My dog was not matted and did not need to be cut this short. She said, this is NOT her fault, I said 'who's fault is it?' Mine? Shauna told me, I need to discuss this with SOMEONE else. Like Who??? She is the owner! With that SHE HUNG UP ON ME! Not even an apology! Please don't take your dog to this person. read more

Horrible experience that I would not wish on an enemy! We thought it would be great to have a place close to home and it turned out to be an expensive lesson. The absolute worst cut! They actually shaved around my puppies eyes and left shaved patches on her back side and legs. The employees were rude and tried to blame us , she actually said "I don't see anything wrong with the cut! You just want free service." Unbelieveable the rude attitude of the groomer who did not even apologize for the horrible cut, reddness left after rough handling and razor burns. Believe me I would much rather pay and have a happy, healthy puppy then go through this. I had to take my Westie straight to the vet who was surprised with the shaved eyes and razor burn. My Westie would not leave my side for two days after being there. Be careful if this is the place you go. read more

Shauna's Paw Spa & Pet Boutique is the absolute answer to grooming AND daycare and boarding. Shauna treats our dog like part of her family and he ALWAYS looks amazing after his grooming. Our dog is a terrier and therefore full of energy so while we are at work our dog goes to doggy daycare and throughly enjoys the attention and FUN while hanging out at the shop. This has saved us lots of stress because our dog suffered great anxiety being left at home alone. Shauna's is the ONLY place we would ever take our precious pup for boarding. Shauna actually takes the dogs to her home while they are being boarded and they are treated like family. Our dog gets so excited when we arrive at Shauna's and a tail wag speaks volumns!
