Shawarma Inn wins again! My combo plate last night was so incredibly yummy and I just reheated the leftovers for a filling lunch. The meat was charred to perfection and absolutely succulent. The lentil soup was very very tasty and fresh. I've never had a bad meal here, it ranges from very good to great. Not to mention, this place is a good value. Really enjoyed my baklava as well. The quality of the schawarma has decreased. Ate here Friday and Sunday, my friends said it's not what it used to be. The meat and the rice. Thought it was a one-off, ate Sunday, specifically asked for no burnt meat. Guess what I got! Wife even said she doesn't like the meat. FWIW, the place was pretty empty both times doubt they can mess up orders or rushed them. Sad to see the quality dropped off. I ordered from here via Uber eats. It showed up soggy and without any flavor. No sauces added for $12 for a shwarma wrap (total). A burrito from taco Bell would have been better. I am not sure how it is when dinning in but from this experience I don't ever want to try that place again read more

Gave it a try! Lentil soup... better at Albert's Cafe (Turkish) on Lawrence. This version was less flavorful and a tad watery. Nice salad! Schwarma beef was more tasty than at Taza Bakery on West Devon but the portion was much less and cost was higher. Waitress forgot to bring my Coke and never came back to check if everything was OK! Poor service. At the end, I had to get up, go to the register and pay. Waitress, MIA... Missing in action. Unisex washroom is dirty and dingy. Not recommended. This is a small mom and pop shop that serves Mediterranean food. The food here is delicious! I was able to order the chicken with rice which came with a soup and salad. The lentil soup was so tasty too. The food came out in probably ten minutes - quick service at this place! The food was made fresh and tasted very good. This place is legit. I recently moved to the Chicago area. After two days of moving/unpacking, I was in need of something meaty, fresh, and delicious. The Shawarma Inn was my destination and it did not disappoint. First - the staff. The young woman behind the counter was friendly and attentive. I called ahead and placed my order for carry out, which was ready upon my arrival. In an era where customer service seems to be lacking in the restaurant biz, this place seems to still value its customers. Second - the price. Their items are a little more pricey than I am used to for fast Middle Eastern cuisine. This is why I am giving the establishment 4 stars, rather than 5. However, it is worth mentioning that their portions are generous. Fair pricing but not the best. Third (and most important) - the food. I ordered the combination place, a small hummus, and a small tabouli. My carry out order was packaged neatly and filled with plenty of warm pita bread. It was all fantastic. The meat wasn't dry or overcooked; the hummus and tabouli added the freshness that I'm always after, and the rice was perfectly prepared and seasoned. As already mentioned, the portions are very large - I ended up having plenty of leftovers for the remainder of my unpacking, which was an unexpected bonus! The Shawarma Inn is highly recommended. Really good baba ghanoush, had some kinda chopped peppers mixed in that made it oh so good. Just the right amount of smokey goodness, too. I shared the veggie plater with a friend and it was enough for the both of us, although I could've eaten another little falafel ball. The hummus was good with fresh tomatoes on top, as well as Jerusalem salad and a bit of ice berg lettuce salad with some mild vinegar dressing. The bean soup is pretty good, it's mostly beans but there's a nice kick in the seasoning. I would've loved if the pita bread was not stale - that's my only complaint! Love the food. But when it comes to COVID safety, they're a mess. Half the time, staff aren't wearing masks at all, particularly the cooks. And when they do, it's usually dangling by their chin or covering only their mouth. Given that, I seriously doubt they'll be checking vax cards come Jan. 3. Tired as hell and with no other options, we searched on Yelp and seeing the high reviews we ordered carry out for 2 chicken shawarma sandwiches. It was a disappointment though. I have been ordering shawarma sandwiches for take out for the longest time. And up to now, I still can't understand why they are so ungenerous in giving sauces to go. I would order 3-4 sandwiches and they will give me 1 small plastic container(2 tablespoon) of sauce. I happened to notice this place when getting food from Hubs which is just across the street. That's right, these people opened a restaurant with food in a similar category to Hubs RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET. I felt that such a brazen move must certainly guarantee their victuals to be grand. I mean. . . why else would someone think they could compete directly across the street from a restaurant that has the little 3 block radius on lock food-wise. Especially when there are three other Middle Eastern/kabob places within walking distance? I mean. . . why else? Well, after trying a shawarma sandwich from there I know the reason. They like the idea of wasting time and money. I never had a shawarma sandwich before but figured it to be similar to a gyro from the many pics I saw on the web. I went there with my mouthwatering looking forward to a tasty juicy sandwich. The sandwich is sliced beef topped with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, tahini sauce, and this stuff called tourshe wrapped in a thin pita. I was told the tourshe was rather spicy, so I forwent it. I'm thinking the tourshe must be what makes the sandwich, at least I hope, because it was certainly nothing without it. No flavor whatsoever. The meat was lackluster which I just didn't understand. I think I saw sauce, but I didn't taste any. The pita was just too chewy for me. I was not amused. I would like to think that a dish shouldn't have to rely on it's condiments in order to taste good. The foundation of it should be what brings the flavor. Everything else should just enhance it. So I guess I won't be cheating on Hubs anytime soon. W.O.W. This place is AWESOME! Shawarma Inn has been added to my MUST HAVE Chicago Eats List for all my friendly visitors from Cali and out of town. I cannot believe I've been living here for 5 months now and this is the first time I've had it!!! My group had 4 people, so we were able to order a bunch of different plates to try. Group favorite was definitely the PORK CHOP plate. I'm still drooling over it!!!!~ Try both the lentil soup and beans. I like mixing with my rice. We didn't find out about the tzatziki green sauce until about half-way into our meal. I'm so sad that we didn't get to enjoy it from the start, but at least we were able to enjoy it. The other dishes were pretty good, but definitely not as good as the pork chop plate. The chicken and beef were just safe for us to try, but I'm going back for those juicy pork chops fosheez. hehe. Amazing shawarma and lentil soup. I ordered chicken shawarma plate that came with a small salad, rice, lentil soup, big thin pita, tahini and hot sauce and an extra lentil soup for later. Everything was delish. I called ahead for pickup and despite I had a fifteen minute commute between there and home when I finally got home the food was hot and the salad was not soggy.. now that is some take out talent. The chicken shawarma was more than what I expected it was everything. The rice was delish and the lentil soup was fresh and did not disappoint. Upon arrival to pick up my food the server told me she forgot to charge me for a lentil soup and that it was on the house. I do not expect anything for free I even offered to pay for the soup separately, but she reassured me it was okay. Not necessary but definitely appreciated. The food was super good especially with that yummy garlic sauce and hot sauce. Next time I will come back to try the beef shawarma because my coworkers all rave about the chicken and the beef so I'm going to switch it up and get that. I came here for the first time over the weekend with my friends and I brought back leftovers for my husband to try. The moment he had a bite, he told us we had to go back so we went today for an early dinner. I got the shish kabob meal while the hubs got the combo. We also got an order of hummus and falafels. I am obsessed with their shish kabobs...the meat is just so tender and flavorful. Their falafels are the best I ever had...you don't even need to add sauce to it if you don't want to. BUT the sauces are delicious so you must try them. They offer 3: tahini, garlic and a spicy one. They are all delicious and I like to mix them all up and use that for the meat and rice. One small negative is that our waitress was friendly but she kept forgetting things. But as the restaurant started getting pretty busy, it's a little understandable. I don't think I'll ever feel the desire to go to Pita Inn again as long as Shawarma is around. read more

I had such high expectations, but it really wasn't great. Plus, I'm confused. Very confused - my meal came with no sauces and no turshi, which to be honest were half of the reason I went. It said on the menu I'd get turshi but alas, none to be had. Instead, I did get both a green salad and a bowl of soup with my meal, but the green salad was very very plain (iceburg and shredded carrots, though they did put a tasty ras al hanout sort of spice on it which was nice). The white bean soup was bland - I ate it, and it was ok, but it mostly tasted like black pepper and tomato sauce. We ordered the middle eastern "eggrolls" to start - they were good, filled mostly with meat - although they tasted like lamb instead of beef, but I'm a lamb fan, so that was ok with me. My husband got a chicken shawarma sandwich, which was quite good - included garlic sauce and the bread was wonderful - soft and flavorful and grilled. I'd order this again, although other middle eastern places do just as good a job -- but again, I'd do it, especially at 2am! My actual chicken kabobs were well grilled and moist and the rice was tasty...but not anything to write home about. Bottom line, I'll go back if I need a shawarma sandwich, especially after a late night. I'll I'll try a meal again if someone can explain why I had no sauces or turshi (do I need a secret handshake?!) BTW: service was attentive - she was very sweet, on top of things, and seemed to genuinely care if we liked our meal, despite being the only waitress serving about 25 people. read more

Great Find. My friend and I, after talking for hours, we found ourselves hungry at 2 am. We were on our way at another place but we passed by in this place and saw how busy it was and decided to try it out. I had the shawarma sandwich for $5 and my friend had the combo for 13$, the combo came with salad and soup. The service was decent and I would say the meat taste really good. Though, I had a problem with their service they apologize after they realized they had almost forgot us and was serving other tables. Will come back for late munchies. read more

This place is a hit or miss. I wish the quality of their food would stay consistent. For example, yesterday my fiance ordered the chicken shwarma sandwich. He said it wasn't seasoned well. I tried it and agreed. Usually the taste of shwarma spice is better than this. I got the chicken kabab sandwich and it was great! But when I ordered it a few weeks ago, it wasn't so great. This place is always busy whenever I go, whether it's 12PM or 12AM. The meat that they have here is incredible. It taste amazing, along with their garlic sauce! Words can't describe how good it taste. But I'm not a big fan of their rice or bread though. The waitresses are typically friendly and nice. They are always on top of their order and service. The reason why I give it a 4-star is because the place does look and feel a bit run down. I have no doubt in my mind that if they remodeled, they would definitely be one of the best middle eastern places in Chicago. read more
