We were really looking forward to falafel and we thought we'd try this place out since it was close. So disappointed that the falafels - nicely shaped and not dripping with oil - were almost cakey in texture and practically flavorless. The included tahini dressing didn't fix anything. The baba ganoosh was ok, heavy on the tahini while missing the garlic, lemon and zestiness that we prefer. Our biggest disappointment was that there was no sign on the door requesting masks be worn, and one of the two folks behind the counter handling food was not wearing a mask. I don't appreciate that kind of cavalier choice among food industry workers regardless their personal choices about COVID. We won't return. read more

I got a shawarma and fries from here today. It was okay. The fries were well seasoned but a little too salty for my taste. Same with the chicken, although it was really good quality and yummy besides that. Also, the menu said my sandwich only came with garlic, pickles, and chicken, but my sandwich had lettuce and tomato on it. Not a huge deal, but kind of ruined it for me. What a find. Best meal ever! The food here is incredible. First of all, the Ingredients are all exceptionally fresh and everything is cooked to order. And they are next to a Shell gas station of all places. Who knew?! Thank goodness I called because the Yelp app wasn't letting me place an order for pickup close to 7 pm and we were coming from a funeral service up north. The owner answered and she could not have been lovelier or more accommodating, even assuring me that they would stay open after 7 pm, until we arrived. The split lentil soup was sensational. I inhaled 3/4 of it before my husband could get a bite. I have never had better lentil soup and I make it myself all the time. We also ordered a large Greek salad that was incredibly fresh (was made while I watched), filled with beets, feta, chickpeas, pepperoncini, tomatoes, cucumber, red onion. Just fabulous and perfect for 2 hungry people. We both ordered chicken shawarma sandwiches, and so WONDERFUL to have the option of whole wheat pita! My husband got the combo that comes with TO DIE FOR fries. Salted to perfection and a spice added that makes them addictive. And I never eat fries, chips or anything like that and these fries...read the older reviews, they are in a class by themselves. This is the best place to get shawarma in town. I go here all the time, and I love it! I always get the chicken shawarma, but usually buy at least 4 of them because I know I'll have them the next day. And the next. They're so good! You have to go here. If you have any doubts, just put them aside and try it!!! Their garlic sauce is on point and it's perfect. Some other places are okay, but dry and don't have enough sauce or things in it. It looks like a small shop in a gas station, and everyone knows gas station food sucks. Except for here. Polar opposites. BEST EVER! The fries are super hot, and everything is made to order, so it's extra fresh. I stopped by after reading the rave reviews. The chicken shawarma is on par with Bucharest in the Detroit area, which I have considered to be the best. Tons of garlic sauce, fresh bread and just the right anoint of flavor. The French fries were cooked to order so they couldn't have been hotter. I liked the food, reasonably priced, fresh made with love, even the fries were nicely flavored! My son and I decided that will be now our Middle Eastern place to go, especially during the pandemic, when we don't want to eat indoor. I hope that eventually, after the Pandemic ends, they will move to a bigger facility, where we can enjoy their their food indoors because it is a higher quality than just "fast food"! read more

First, this place blew us away- the cook on the pita was perfect, the chicken shawarma to sauce to pickle ratio was incredible, and the value was outstanding. Highly recommend getting the fries too- they're goddamn perfect! Finally, I can confidently call myself a relative shawarma Connoisseur, and have genuinely tried all the places in AA. Not only is Shawarma Shop the newest in the city... it's the best in the city, despite its humble appearance.
