I love Schwarmaji! I tried Schwarmaji for the first time when they were operating out of the forage kitchen space. I remembered it being great, and was so excited to see when they opened their brick and mortar near Ike's and Umami Burger downtown. We've ordered take out twice within the last few weeks, although it seems like they have some outdoor seating set up which is nice as well. We've ordered the lamb shawarma both times, once in the wrap, and twice with the plate, as well as the side salad and shawarma fries. The lamb there is so tasty - so well seasoned and cooked, delightfully gamey but not overwhelming. The wraps are huge (like a foot long), and stuffed with onions and a delicious tahini sauce. The plate comes with pickles that are absolutely amazing, and last time came with a side of fries which were so well seasoned. The shawarma fries were INCREDIBLE - the box weighted like 2 pounds, fries were smothered in well seasoned chicken, garlic sauce, pickles, etc. We ate almost the entire thing and I think it could likely be a great snack/meal to share with at least 1-2 other people. The owner is very friendly and patiently explains the menu. The lamb shawarma is juicy and flavorful. The spice blend in the shawarma evokes the memory of walking through a spice souk (market). The lamb is surrounded with tomato and red onion slices and wrapped in a blanket of bread. Ive walked by this spot a number of times and finally decided to give it a try for something quick and easy. Not sure if my order missed something or I was supposed to add onto it but the lamb shawarma wrap I got was DRY. Like, I could barely push through it dry. I ended up having to use some ranch dressing I had in the fridge because of how nearly inedible it was without a sauce. Im assuming I just didnt get the tahini sauce on mine or sonethibg because it definitely seemed off. CUSTOMERS BEWARE** EXCESS CHARGES** Came here today hoping to find a hidden gem since the reviews looked so promising. I walked in and ordered a shawarma wrap (pickles on the side instead of in the wrap) and a shawarma fry (pickles also on the side instead of on the fries) the total was suppose to be around $20 but some how it ended up being $36. I had asked why the total was so much.. turns out he had charged me $12 for pickles! Note that these pickles already come with the food, I had just asked for them to be on the side. We got our food, it smelled promising.. it came out hot. We took a bite of our Fries and were totally disappointed. The chicken was SUPER DRY and the sauce had too much garlic as our tongues started to burn. We tried the shawarma wrap which was worse than the fries. No flavor whatsoever and also very dry. How flavorful could the food from this little shack be? It was entirely worth the trip from San Jose. I got the chicken shawarma fries and lamb pita. Instant and deep flavor from the meat and so easily balanced with the pickled veggies and meat to fry ratio. I actually would have preferred a bit more veggies but I feel like I'm the odd one out for that one. Intense garlic flavor and meat quality really made the meal memorable. It really helps that these fellows have a small menu. Too much focus is lost when places throw 20342304 items on the menu. I totally recommend coming here for the food. You won't regret it. I don't understand the hype. Ordered the Arabi style lamb. Extremely greasy. There were pools of it in the bottom of the container. Ridiculously oversalted, and I'm a salt fiend! Meat was particularly dry as well. Very disappointing. Service was quick and efficient, but not particularly inviting. Fries were the highlight. I originally came across this restaurant in search of a place that caters halal food for a group of college students. The process to order and communication with schwarmjii was so easy! (I've worked with several vendors in the past and not so easy). We ordered the lunch boxes and they were perfect for our meeting. A few students were thrilled we had schwarmjii as they have eaten it before. The lamb sandwich was delicious! This might be my new favorite go-to for shawarma in the east bay ! I ordered the lamb shawarma arabi plate. It comes in a pita wrap that's cut up into almost bite size bits. On the side there are pickled vegetables, tahini sauce, and garlic sauce. I was hesitant to get the lamb because a lot of times it's gamey, but that's not the case here. It had really good flavor without the gamey-ness. The garlic sauce takes the shawarma to another level, but don't worry, they provide you with a mint on the side also. I also got fries on the side which were lightly seasoned. I wish they were a little crispier but they're not bad. I wanna come back and try their other offerings ! read more

Was really excited to try this place. Met up with my family it was a nice small place. Open windows and two tables outside. My group all got the lamb arabi with fries. I must say the the garlic dip and fries were delicious. For my family of 5 the wrap was not a hit. The lamb/beef was extremely dry and hard, the sauce was bitter and for me the hummus was off in taste. Pretty solid food, but not as amazing as I had expected given all of the other raving reviews here. The arabi plate is enough food to last two meals for me, and includes fries (my favorite part, actually) and veggies. I didn't like the garlic sauce or tahini, and realized that eating things without them was actually better. The service is 5/5, though. I've been going back to the office on a hybrid schedule. And sometimes, I just don't bring lunch because I get tired of constantly eating my own cooking. I caught up with some former co-workers in the area and one of them recommended Shawarmaji. J's middle eastern and he swore on his heritage that this place is authentic AF. (Funny story or not - my venmo message for this meal was 'J's middle eastern Heritage' and venmo froze my transaction because it was suspicious...) I can't say that I've had super authentic shawarma before. I mean, I've definitely had shawarma before - drunk, hung over, as a college undergrad searching for the best bang for her buck from the local shawarma truck, etc. I guess what I'm trying to get it is that I'm not shawarma expert no matter how many times I've had it. But J is! I got the chicken shawarma, sliced in two and without pickles. The other guys got the chicken shawarma set and the lamb shawarma set. The shawarma was rolled thinner than the other shawarmas I've eaten but is just as filling. Their vegan garlic spread is the most amazing thing ever. It's so good that I ended up buying a container for home. J, the shawarma expert declared it "pretty authentic" and we proceeded to demolish our orders. Super unimpressed. Bad food and mislabeled order. Went in the store to order- after completing payment was told 'that'll be 10-15 mins'. Great! Would have been nice to know that before parting with my cash. These are not Jordanian style - unless Jordanians use tortillas to wrap their shawarma. The worst part of this, I ordered fries inside and my husband cheese (I am lactose intolerant). They labelled the wraps the wrong way round - so, I ended up eating a half wrap full of cheese and my husband a half wrap full of fries. How hard is it to label correctly? Two wraps (generic tortilla wraps like you get at Safeway, average meat, zero salad- no exaggeration) cost $30. Plus wrong order (mislabeled at least) without any decent middle eastern salad that you'd find in genuine shawarma....really? Don't bother. Waste of money and they'll get your order wrong so you'll spend the rest of your evening with a stomach ache. Avoid. read more

Divine. If I could have their toum with every meal I would. I can't get enough. We always buy an extra tub of it and mix it into pretty much everything we cook for several days after eating.
