Arlo Guthrie and Woody Guthrie on vinyl. Alice's Restaurant!
Sheri M.

My first reaction was: "How did I not know about this place?!" Guthries is a vegetarian/vegan friendly breakfast and lunch cafe that also hosts local musicians and has been in Lewiston for over 15 years! We had been car shopping in the L/A area on possibly the hottest, most humid day of the year and decided to stop in for some lunch. I was thrilled to see gazpacho listed as the soup of the day and ordered the "Take 2", gazpacho and a 10" sweet potato burrito. The gazpacho was cool and so refreshing: possibly a watermelon and tomato base with a hint of strawberry and rhubarb. It was the perfect combination of sweetness and a little spice. The sweet potato burrito was warmed on the panini press and had small crunches of bell pepper and was served with homemade salsa, just delicious. We had a couple of chocolate/orange donuts for dessert which were made in the morning: fresh and the ganache was thick and chocolatey, with just a hint of orange flavor. We enjoyed checking out the Woody and Arlo Guthry memorabilia as well as the local art for sale while we waited for our order. We enjoyed everything about Guthries and hope to be back soon!

Guthries is hands down the cutest little nook in Lewiston! The vibe is speakeasy meets craft lunch and I am HERE FOR IT. They have a soft spot for vegetarian/vegan options without sacrificing the flavor, ask for their homemade hot sauce, you won't regret it. Everything is very fresh & made to order, and the baked goods are out of this world delicious but usually fly out the door long before lunch time, fair but sad for the late riser like me, lol Everyone that works at Guthries is kind and funny and friendly, 100/10 recommend.

Was visiting Maine and I've been ordering from the same spot each time I stay in Auburn and wanted a change. Went on Uber eats and found this gem of a spot! A++ the Bella panini was outstanding Dane with a bag of chips and pickle yum! I also ordered the peanut butter Monks Dream smoothie wow is all I can say! Thirst quenching! Can't wait to order this spot again! Thank you!

Didn't really know what to expect. The reviews are mixed. You order at the counter and they bring you your food. No issues. They have one red blend and one white for wines. The red was just ok. My tacos came and the plate was pretty. I ordered the chicken. Sooo dried out. No sauce. I slathered it with siracha and let the staff know. They gave me a gift card. My husband liked his veggie burrito and the nachos were good. We will be back.

This hippie styled, vegan inspired restaurant has great food for all dietary preferences. The service was good, friendly with a smile. They even let me sample the soup before committing to a bowl. The soups change regularly, as do some of the specialty drinks. They even have desserts. While the food and drinks were great, the prices weren't. It is hard to agree to pay 15 bucks for a sandwich. They have fresh brewed teas, of their own blend as well as traditional, served hot or cold. I tried the gutheries blend and while it was good with nice flavor combination, I would have preferred a stronger brew. There are lots of coffee drinks, including espresso. There are blended smoothies is delicious flavors such as PB&J or pineapple kale. They have main root sodas and even bottled pepsi. I ordered the bbq chicken Panini, which was wonderful. Tender bbq chicken, shredded and served toasted on wheat bread with melty provolone, tomato and lettuce and served with a pickle. The coconut curry carrot soup with barley was bowl licking good, with a delightful medley of flavors. They served half sandwich of your choice with a bowl of soup. The pulled pork quesadilla was filling and savory with delicious bbq pork. This was served with chips salsa and sour cream. The salsa was lacking any flavor or hint of heat, but was definitely fresh tasting.

Fun tables!

They say never start a marketing premise with a negative, but in this case She Doesn't Like Guthries catches your attention, as will the restaurant itself. It's a funky kitschy 60s throwback with decoupage-clad picnic tables, Woodstock-worthy wood paneling, a few folk albums and some music kitsch on the walls are all part of its charm. The food is excellent, a mix of mexican, sandwiches, vegetarian and vegan. The shredded pork burrito will go mano-a-mano with the sweet potato burrito. They also have great local brew sodas and beers, including a blueberry soda that was amazing. The service is super friendly, and parking is not too bad outside with street and big lots nearby. One of the Yelp-worthy quirky fun eateries that you Yelpers traveling here and there crave, and a cool place on Fridays I hear for locals, when they have live music. Oh? The story... The owners were trying to figure out the name. He liked Guthries. She didn't. The rest is history...

I love the people that work there, but its a bit pricey for what the food was for me. They do have Gluten Free.

Staff was unfriendly. The food wasn't any better. Easily the most flavorless burrito I've ever had. Even Chipoltle is better than this.

Expensive but good food. Have had rude service several times upon ordering. Nice atmosphere but could use a good paint job.

Miso soup was delicious and hearty - just what you need on a cold day outside. Both, noodles and fried rice were great. Btw their spice levels are catered to North American taste buds, so if you're an Asian just tell them highest spice levels and you'll probably still feel like moderate. Having said that, great flavours. The staff was nice and friendly. I used the restroom and they were clean and well maintained. Definitely recommended.

It is a tragedy that I was only planning to visit Portland for less than a day, so I didn't have the opportunity to dine in at the Green Elephant. However I would contemplate driving up from Boston just to have their Singapore noodles again. It was so flavorful, and the noodles were cooked to the perfect texture. The level 2 spice in the online ordering menu was not spicy at all, but the food still had a good amount of sauce and flavor. The dish was definitely heavy on the noodles and probably only had 4-5 bite-sized pieces of tofu for protein, but the noodles certainly were my favorite part. And for only about $15-20 per main dish, this is one of the more accessible/affordable restaurants for vegan options in Portland!

Very sweet owners and super thoughtful with their menu. The banh mi toast was my favorite. The chickpea wrap was delicious also. The store is small, but there's a lot going on here! There were vegan meats and cheese and snacks and beverages for sale from brands I haven't heard of before (and that's a rarity for me now!), as well as a unique variety of things from brands I know very, very well (but had no idea they made _______ [fill in the blank]). For sure, BRING A COOLER. There's going to be so many things you want to bring home and try! The café itself offers a curated selection of baked goods, sandwiches, and open-faced toasts. I found the many baked goods we tried a bit dry for my personal liking; also, I'd recommend any of the sandwiches over any of the toasts (while I haven't tried them, they look more much more substantial in both size and portion of fillings/ingredients for what you're paying). The toasts are very, very small. The toppings, while flavorful and fresh, are also very, very minimal. Aesthetically speaking, they're absolutely Instagram-worthy! But for one thin slice per order, it's currently $9 to $16 (depending on which one you get); after a long wait for them to come out, we were just taken aback at how little food there actually was. Eating outside on their quiet, intimate patio overlooking the water in such beautiful minimalist-chic decor is an absolute vibe. I could see someone having an elevated rehearsal dinner or a sophisticated birthday here.

First of all, We don't drink alcohol and the bar was louder than the main dining room. With all the empty space she took us to an area where two other couples were at the tables next to us. No consideration regarding privacy and I don't care to hear other people's conversation at dinner. I carefully picked up our service ware and moved it to the empty table in the corner. It even seemed it might be a stretch for the server in the Bar to be able to walk 25' to our NEW location. The Food was very tasty. The bottled water was chlorinated, so we bought a liter. The 2 liter Gigantic green water bottles were attempting to take the place of center pieces, but you can't lift them (4.4Lbs) safely. I worked in a few HIGH Level Restaurants as the maitre D'. I always catered to the customer's needs. AS for Bandaloop; With improved customer service that does not take a "guarded attitude", it would be a more gracious place. I was not attacking anyone. I mentioned that a 2 liter bottle cannot be picked up and poured with ease. "It's a new thing changed by the manager."--------- It was not well thought out. Try to pour a 2 liter bottle of wine or water with one hand. We also had to use another napkin as a placemat. What is on those tables? Bee's Wax? Use some Dawn soap.
