Ley was HANDS down the best esthetician I've ever had. I'm so happy I found her! I had the dermaplane with her. I have to admit- I'm a licensed esthetician and massage therapist. I've been in the spa industry 10 years so I can be quite critical of someone's work. But I cannot say enough about Ley!! She is everything I've been looking for. EXTREMELY thorough, professional and prideful of her work. You can tell she's mindful of every move she makes. She is the type of person I would follow from spa to spa if she ever left. Purchase a Groupon for 3 IPL treatments. Went in and the device the esthetician used was an at home plug in device not an actual IPL laser with the proper Joules to treat dark spots and broken blood vessels in a few treatments. Something like this would take 10-20 treatments. I was ripped off and they should not be advertising IPL treatments when they do not have the proper equipment. read more

I got a lash refill Groupon and Jolleen did such a good job! I a definetly coming back for refills every two weeks. I didn't get my original set done by her but she did the refill anyways and filled them out so they look 100x better than before! I love them! read more

Jolleen (& I only know her name because I asked for a card, she never introduced herself & I wasn't given a name when I booked the appt), was friendly, clearly wanted to make me happy, gave me options & suggestions & a nice cut & blow out. The setting is a bit mish mash & the prices are high for the surroundings. If you don't care about that, it is a good place to get a great cut & service. read more

I have been to Shear elegance for several different services; massage, IPL facial, and most recently foil highlights and hair cut. I was immediately greeted by the stylist, Philip. He was very outgoing and fun, not once did we have that all too familiar awkward silence. He was intuitive to what worked for me in terms of shade and what I was wanting. In the end, my caramel highlights came out amazing and he gave me a great cut. I will definitely continue to be his client in the future. To summarize, Jolleen was great, and I would definitely go back to get another hair cut from her! I moved to the area fairly recently and decided to give this place a try after purchasing a Groupon deal for a cut/blow dry/deep conditioning treatment. Just so you know more about my perspective: I get my hair cut once or twice a year. Probably could go more often, but I'm on a tight budget. My hair is pretty easy to work with (I think?), very straight, thick, not color treated. I'm not super picky about it as long as the end result is good. I usually end up with what they call a "stacked bob" look that is shorter in the back and longer in the front, but not quite as short as a pixie. I usually let the stylist have a little creative leeway with what happens. Booking the appointment: I first tried calling the salon for an appointment with no luck. Good thing there is a way to book online! It's a little confusing, but after making sure I selected "spa" for the Marlborough location as it say to on their website, I found it easy enough to scroll down and select the Groupon service and book an appointment with Jolleen. I knew from reading the other yelp reviews that this was the salon owner, so that influenced my decision on who to book with. (Note: her appointments in Marlborough are limited, since she works at both locations.) I received an email reminder for the appointment a few days beforehand. The service: My appointment lasted an hour and included a quick consult over a couple of pictures of my targeted look, a shampooing, a deep conditioning treatment that took a few minutes to work it's magic, the cut itself, and a quick blow dry. I'm not normally a talker during appointments, but Jolleen made the time fly by with some funny stories and made me feel very comfortable. The end result was a great cut and shiny, baby soft hair. Overall, I had a good experience and would definitely recommend Jolleen for this service. I can't speak for any of the other staff or services, however. read more

I see a lot of good reviews on here and definitely didn't experience the same quality service. Disclaimer that I did buy a groupon and I understand a lot of times you get what you pay for but I'm not sure I even got that. I had bought a "signature facial". It was probably the worst facial I've ever had, and the room I was in had a lot of noise from the hall so it wasn't really relaxing like a nice spa setting. They didn't offer any upgrades or talk about what kinds of facials or peels they offered. There was no extraction during it....I don't know if she just missed the step or not, I've never had a facial where they don't do that. Somehow it still took 45 minutes but usually my skin feels refreshed and hydrated for a couple days but not in this case. Maybe their massages or haircuts are better.... read more

Got my first set of eyelash extensions here. Based on what I researched about lash extensions I expected the process to take up to 2 hours. After 45 mins I was done. I thought Hmmm a lot faster than expected. The Unfortunately, the majority of lashes fell off the next day. I called and they fit me in with a follow up appt to reapply. It was another "speedy" session and the thought ran through my mind that I was hoping they would stay on this time. But unfortunately the next day, the same thing. The majority fell off again. I called to let them know and they offered to do another redo but I decided to request a refund and they agreed. Update: I took a trip to California and had extensions put in there and still have them on. So I know it wasn't me, my lashes or the care I gave them. I honestly don't know why this place couldn't apply extensions that would last more than 24 hours. read more

I love coming here! Jolleen is incredibly talented and always takes excellent care of me and my lashes. She is very responsive to feedback and has been able to adjust her work to match the looks I'm going for (sometimes I ask for a little more pop or for it to be more subtle and she always delivers). Jolleen is also incredibly efficient. I have only ever had my lashes done here but I've been told by many friends that they can take forever to complete and Jolleen finishes the job in about 25-30 minutes. In addition to being talented and efficient, Jolleen is also just good people. She is welcoming, has a good sense of humor, makes good conversation, and makes me feel comfortable and welcomed. I love coming here and supporting this business. I've only ever had my lashes and brows done here but I'd like to check out their facials and other treatments too. 10/10 recommend! read more

Fred put an incredible level of effort in to my massage. He has the ability, endurance and enthusiasm to put tremendous strength into relaxing some extraordinarily tight muscles. Great at asking to know what kind of massage is for the situation (along the range of just relaxing vs intensely focused) and where to target. Exceptional at being aware of what it takes to get very tight muscles to release and what it takes to get there. This place is a complete utter disappointment. I went in for a hair color- the stylist started putting in the color without asking me which color I wanted or anything- he didn't bother to speak to me once and just started putting in stuff on my hair- which smelled of such strong chemicals- all the while he was just ranting about Posh Malone and didn't take even one second to actually ask about what I was looking for. After finishing my hair was almost completely blonde! My friends got scared looking at me- I almost looked like an old witch! My hair became like an old straw hat after the coloring- very very disappointing service! Stay away from the place! read more

This was really not a good experience. I was never told any product that was being used on my face or what it was used for. There were three separate times of allowing a product dry out, the first was 10 minutes and the last ones were 5 minutes each totaling at least 20 minutes of me just laying there. Finally, he used his fingernails to clear the pores on my face - totally unsanitary. I was completely grossed out. The facial itself did not seem as if it was done by a person with real training. I cannot recommend this place to anyone. It was a confusing experience to say the least. read more

I went in for a routine eyebrow wax and had an excellent experience. Kat was extremely thorough and a pleasure to talk to. I am very particular about the shape of my brows and she nailed it. It was hands down the best my brows have looked in a while. I was so impressed with the whole experience that I called back later that day and booked a lash lift with her. Worst facial ever! Was like a 100 face wash. No steam, no extraction. Lights were bright and no sound machine. So loud. She even left the room for towels and left the door wide open. No conversations and help with products. Hair cut was just as bad. My hair is chopped and horrible and he just complained about bad tippers. I have moved out of state and miss this place so much. The staff is friendly and really listen to what you want. I havent had a cut or color as amazing as they did here. My hair cuts would always turn out even better than what I imagined I want them to be. The hair color products they use are excellent. My thin frizzy hair becomes thick and glossy. read more

Never again will I step foot into this establishment. I went for a Brazilian wax and got home to suffer an anaphylactic reaction (and needed to receive medical attention). I have been receiving Brazilian waxes for the last five years, and have never experienced something like this. I was swollen, and in severe pain for 24 hours following my wax even after receiving medical attention. This was my first and last visit at this establishment. read more

I tried a groupon for a facial. Not worth the money for sure. The guy who gave me the facial seemed to not understand what a facial was. I was put into a room with semi loud music. The door was open most of the time and I could here all the noise from the salon. The "facial" was a glorified face wash. I had more product in my hair than face it seemed. My hair and clothes were not protected . I was told I got the diamond products but looking at the products used it's hard to believe they are diamond rating quality. Wondering if this guy brought his own supplies or if the salon uses them as a standard ? Was hoping for a relaxing experience but ended having a stressful one. I was reading reviews on Groupon. Seems management does not respond to bad reviews. Hoping the unqualified person they hired does not tarnish their reputation much longer. It's too bad. Went here and was an absolute nightmare. I was excited to get a color/cut/deep condition from Groupon but I will never take a Groupon chance like this again. The stylist dyed my eyebrows with the same dye as my hair and left the dye on just as long. The dye was all over my face and clothes when I left. I was absolutely mortified when I saw it up close in my car. It was also very unprofessional that the brush was dropped on the floor several times and then reused on my hair. I had to visit my sister in-laws salon after just to fix the eyebrow damage... I would give negative stars if I could because hair dye should never be used on eyebrows according to several stylists I asked after... and dye for such a small portion of hair should not be left on as long as the hair dye... I'm lucky I escaped with any eyebrows at all! read more
