Second time here. I remember first time was when they were brand new, I ordered a couple of food items to dine in and received a good service but food was average. This time I ordered iced latte and quinoa salad, some pastry to go. The latte with non fat milk was so so, the food items here again I felt like average. Best açaí bowl in the area! The baked goods are also good - recently had the banana nut muffin and it was so yummy! The staff is also very friendly and a great place to meet the locals. This place has great coffee and great lunch options. I do wish they would have more vegan and vegetarian options or else I would go more often since they're so close to my work. My parents were visiting me this weekend from Los Angeles with their huge German Shepherd. I found this place on Yelp for the sole reason that it was dog friendly. I know a lot of restaurants that claim to be dog friendly are limited to one dog per table so I usually leave my corgi mix at home. I called ahead and double checked and we were in the clear to bring both pups. We are all early risers so I loved that they opened at 7am. I ordered a breakfast sandwich on a croissant, we also had a breakfast burrito (a lot smaller than I thought it would be) and my fav item that my dad ordered was the Caprese Avocado Toast- so delicious. We had some espressos and some LaCroix to wash it all down. No one was really sitting out with us since it was so early. I would totally come back here. read more

(Disclaimer: Maybe a weird isolated incident, but I will not be returning) I visited this establishment in late September 2021. As my breakfast burrito plate was being served by an employee, the meal (salsa in particular) slid off the plate and onto my lap before reaching the table. The food runner/employee was very apologetic and insisted that I take a business card and he would "pay for my dry cleaning." No biggie--it was an accident and thankfully I had a shirt on underneath my sweater. Unfortunately, the replaced-rushed breakfast burrito actually even had a hair in it. Sadly, the salsa permaneantly stained my new white sweater (even after taking it to a dry cleaner). I did send my drycleaning bill (as the employee instructed me) to the email on the business card. Someone who identified themself as the owner emailed me requesting specific details of the event before telling me he would need to confirm the event on his surveillance system (he also stated he would reimburse the meal and sweater if I had receipts--but I didn't have those). It was pretty insulting and kinda gaslighting after being asked by the owner if I spilled on myself, and told surveillance would need to be reviewed. At the end of this less than pleasant experience, I never received the $11 dry-cleaning reimbursement (the principle of the matter was more important than the $11--as I did not spill on myself but an employee did). In short--An employee of this establishment accidentally spilled food on me and told me he would pay for the dry-cleaning-- after a crap experience and short interrogation, reimbursement did not occur. Such a cute little outdoor coffee shop. Located right in Downtown La Mesa. Came here for a quick pick me up on a Saturday around 11 with a girl friend. We waited in line to order and both ordered a pumpkin spice latte and breakfast sandwich on a croissant. The bill came out to $12. Not too bad. I wanted the avocado toast but didn't really want to spend $13 on it since it was my first time trying the place out We ordered and were then given our number and went to look for a spot to sit on their patio. You can order your food to go too if you don't want to stay. Luckily it wasn't too busy so we found a spot. A lot of people brought their dogs so this place is dog friendly if you want to bring your canine friends! Our PSL's were delicious. My friend said it was one of the best she's had. The temperature was perfect too. I was able to drink it right away without burning my tongue. The breakfast sandwiches were good with a creamy Dijon sauce. Good but very messy! Sheldon's Service Station is a cute restaurant at the east end of all the restaurants on La Mesa Blvd. Overall, the ambiance was 4 stars and the food was 3, so I rounded up my review to a 4. Here are a few (hopefully helpful) details: - Restaurant is outside only. There are about 15 tables set up with big umbrellas to block the sun. - This restaurant is dog-friendly (as evidenced by lots of cute pups this morning)! - The chilaquiles portion is pretty big (Please see pic- I had to use a pen for scale to show how big that bowl was!) though they were not my favorite. I wouldn't technically consider them chilaquiles because they didn't appear to be cooked at all. The chilaquiles consisted of a bowl of blue tortilla chips with 2 poached eggs, salsa and microgreens on top. The salsa was good and the microgreens gave it a fresh taste, but to me, the best part of chilaquiles is the slight sogginess of the chips caused by sauteeing them in salsa. The majority of the chips were pretty crisp-- it was more like chips n salsa with poached eggs. Though I wasn't a huge fan of the chilaquiles, I would definitely give Sheldon's another try because I thought the restaurant was charming and feel there are other items on the menu I can explore. read more

This place is my favorite for breakfast and lunch. Great coffee and daily specials. EVERYTIME I go I have enjoyed my meal.

I come to Sheldon's a few times a month because I live nearby. It's a great little spot to grab some quick coffee or to eat a quick breakfast. They have a nice outdoor seating area with fire pits and heaters which is great in the winter time. It's also a great spot for people with dogs, or in my case, two hyper toddlers! I have been here a few times for lunch as well and all the sandwiches and soups are great. I would recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for a more casual or laid back spot. Great place to do work/homework on your laptop! Lastly I have to mention, they have a great bathroom! I can always appreciate a good bathroom! Sheldon's bathroom is always sparkling clean, smells great, and is lined with succulents. It's the little things that make me love this spot! read more

Tasty Food I scrolled across an advertisement for a Sheldons on Instagram I decided to look into it further. The ad offered a buy one get one free. My husband and I went over for lunch and loved the food. We both had a bacon, avocado, tomato and lettuce (blat) sandwich. It was very fresh and the bacon was cooked to perfection!! I really enjoyed the fresh avocado (not store bought) that was spread on the perfectly toasted sourdough bread. They have a few selections for the side. I chose the tomato bisque soup, which was heavenly. Overall, we will definitely be going back for more. read more

Not at all what chilaquiles should be. The eggs Benedict was suppose to come on a pancake and it came on bread instead. Also we asked for bacon on the side for our vegetarian eater and that failed. Lastly, the breakfast sandwich came on a greasy croissant instead of bread. Overall, we had high hopes for this place because it looked so cute from the outside but it just wasn't good at all for food and for the wait time. The drinks are worth going for! Mainly talking about coffee/espresso drinks. I typically order the "Sheldon's freeze" - vanilla. It comes with a caramel drizzle on the outside of the cup and a shot of espresso. So good for a hot day! I also love pastries in the morning so I had tasted the lemon poppyseed muffin. It was just a little too dense for me, I felt that there was way too much poppyseed. It was ok. Parking is pretty easy, Sunday's you don't need to pay. And the workers are really kind and sweet even if they are moving 15 miles per minute working on orders. A little pet peeve of my dads is ordering an espresso to go, and receiving it in tall coffee cup. He wishes they had the small cups made especially for espresso shots. read more

The staff already know and they told me to come and they would get me a mask .He never identified himself until I told him to stop bothering me he the said I'm the owner of this place and stomped into the kitchen says I been doing this for 15 months . Me and my fam frequent this spot for our Monday brunch dates. It has decent seating in the outdoor patio. The coffee is great, but I usually come for the benny's. 097 / 100 - 2016 YELP 100 CHALLENGE. My co-worker and I decided to check out Sheldon's Service Station for a quick pick-me-up. When we got there it was actually pretty busy! Lots of tables in the area and most of them were filled with people eating brunch. We didn't have any time to sit down and try anything on the menu (most of them weren't interesting enough for me to try), so we opted to get drinks and a pastry to-go instead. My co-worker got a latte with caramel. She had asked for vanilla, but they told us they had run out. I got a hot chocolate and a cheese danish. By the time we had paid for our order, the line had gotten pretty long behind us. The drinks themselves didn't take very long to make, which was nice. I got the pastry after we paid, so once we had our drinks we left. The pastry itself tasted stale and pretty dry. Not the worst thing in the entirety of the universe, but a little disappointing nonetheless. The hot chocolate, on the other hand, was great! Sweet but not overly so and not burn-the-roof-of-your-mouth hot. My co-worker said the latte was fantastic and she was incredibly happy with it, though she did wish they had vanilla in stock. Disappointed. This place looks so cute. Right on the edge of the farmers market. There are misters along the patio and its dog friendly. They serve beer here too, which is nice. Only thing is, the server or barista was very rude. Blatantly ignored me, refused to talk and then expected a tip after I ordered. Stopped by Sheldons on Saturday morning around 7:40am yo pick up a quick bite. I was headed to a nearby art/craft event. I ordered the lemon poppy seed muffins and a large vanilla latte (with an extra shot). The young girl orders was not friendly to me at all. But besides that, I asked her to warm my muffin and instead of doing so she simply said - they just came out of the oven. It was not cold mind you, but it definitely was not warmed as I wanted it to be. The (supposed large) latte was only 2/3s full. Lots of foam on top, not a lot of latte actually IN the cup. Again super disappointed with my early morning order. Of course I discovered the lack of latte and the not at all warmed muffin once I returned to my car but since the young girl already seemed impatient while I was ordering I did not go back and ask WTF!! on either item. Sheldon's Station: Please ask your customer facing service people to treat all customers with the same politeness and eagerness to fulfill a proper request for food and drink. Thanks! read more

This is one of the latest restaurants in downtown La Mesa to open with a buzz. Good: (1) Personable staff. Other: (1) They're only open til 3:00, so don't plan on dinner here. (2) They only offer street parking, which I'm sure could be problematic at times. (3) The menu was limited and definitely had a unique flair, so I'd consider this place more of a coffee and bakery establishment. Needs Improvement: (1) They have no indoor seating, so if it's a chilly morning, you'll be huddled around gas heaters (when they work). Finally stopped by Sheldon's for the first time on Sunday. I've been meaning to check this place out since it opened! It did not disappoint. My fiance had the breakfast croissant sandwich and I ordered the croissant French toast from the kids menu. We both enjoyed our meals. My French toast was tasty and crunchy. The portion was sufficient for my appetite. I really love that they don't discourage adults from ordering off the kids menu. I have a small appetite and often find myself bringing good home because most portions are too big. I had a mango-peach mimosa. My fiance had the nutty professor latte.
