This is a great little place for a quick coffee or a sit down meals with friends. It is all outdoor seating and metal tables/chairs. It was warm during our visit, but they had heating lamps out if needed. Coffee and hot chocolate were good, food came out warm and was good! Despite giving my order first, it accidentally got left off the ticket(mistakes happen) after the other 2 entrees were dropped off we waited awhile longer. She left our table number (even though that would've reflected the only meals on the ticket) so I waited 5 minutes more before asking to be told it wasn't on there and I had to pay again. we were a little on a time crunch, it would've been nice if we were asked what else we were waiting on when the entrees were dropped, but they were really kind about it, didn't make me go back up front to pay, and rushed the order. read more

Okay this place used to look inviting but now it has a sheet metal enclosure that looks like a shed for a junkyard. I ordered a Bumble Bee latte and bagel. Bagel came out pretty quick so I'm sitting here for ten minutes trying not to eat my bagel before enjoying my latte which I was expecting. Finally got up to ask where my drink was. She lost the ticket or misplaced it somehow ha ha things happen oh well.....but I lost my appetite and makes me feel like never coming back to be honest. Plus this remodel is lackluster. We had a bit of time to waste and walk around, when we came across Sheldon's. The set up is great! COVID prevention protocols were awesome! Staff was friendly and service was fast, street parking so bring your coins. I ordered a bagel and lox slice salmon with a latte, the salmon vegan was great, the latte was delicious and flavorful. My son ordered an açaí bowl and an earl grey ice tea. He loved the açaí bowl but the only reason I am not giving a 5 star review. He was given a hot tea! So hot he could not drink it, and we tried to get the staff attention but they had a bit of a rush going on. My son decided to just wait till the tea cooled down and he did love the flavor. I was extremely impressed with this cafe! Love how it's right in downtown La Mesa and right on the corner for great access. The staff was amazing and very welcoming. Not to mention the food came out within 5 minutes and were so polite. The Breakfast bowl is incredible! The challenge was parking and the meters not taking card only coins. This actually gave the cafe more of a historic feel but we did not know that prior to arriving. I didn't snag any photos but this was such a pleasant experience! We will for sure be back. read more

You walk up to the counter to order and they will bring your order to you. Huge muffins and delicious coffee. They have free self serve ice water near the pick up station for your to go orders. My girlfriends and I ordered the breakfast bowl. You can choose how you want your eggs. Clean eating without the grease! Next time I'd like to try their popular avocado toast! Parking is on the street, but that's not a problem in the morning hours. There is a place to clear your dishes (near the ice water). This one flew under my radar simply because it closes pretty early (2pm). I made it out today, and, wow. Good enough to get me out of bed earlier kind of good. My husband had the chorizo bowl, I had the breakfast burrito, and my son chose a double chocolate muffin from the bakery box. Literally everything was delicious. I ate my entire burrito. We got the cold brew and the Nutty Professor and had to get a blueberry muffin. Everything was amazing! The smell of the blueberry muffin took over the entire place. It's what I'd imagine Heavan smells like. The Nutty Professor was good from what I was told and the cold brew I had was really quite nice! Now that muffin...that muffin was the best blueberry muffin I've ever had. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, it was everything a muffin should be and more! My husband and Mom came with me to have breakfast here today on the patio with my dog. The dog friendly patio is great! Plenty of seating, two fire tables and lots of heat lamps for cool mornings. You order at a walkup counter and they bring the food to your table. We all ordered breakfast sandwiches. Their's on a thick cut multi grain bread and mine on a croissant with avocado instead of bacon. Hubby thought the sandwich was dry, but Mom loved the bread. I enjoyed mine with the avocado. For some reason they only gave me the mustard aoli which I really liked. It added great flavor and moisture to the sandwich. My mom loves the coffee here and the OJ tasted fresh squeezed. A charming café in downtown La Mesa! I feel like I have to turn up for breakfast at Bo Beau or Farmer's Table, but my girlfriends and I can stop into Sheldon's Service Station or Swami's for a nice casual brunch in a comfortable & relaxed setting. There is usually plentiful parking (especially with Sheldon's Service Station being near the perimeter of downtown La Mesa), and you order your meal at the counter before finding a seat in their outdoor patio. I came on a pretty warm day, and they had mist going throughout the patio to cool customers off. We saw lots of cute dogs around the patio, so very dog-friendly. Service was straightforward and non-invasive, but timing of our orders was a bit off; even though my friend had the same order as me, her food arrived much later than mine for no apparent reason. However, the food was delicious. I ordered the breakfast bowl, and now it'll be hard for me to order anything else! I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast - it was well-balanced without being too salty or greasy. Portions were not comically huge, but rather perfectly filled me up without getting a box for leftovers. I also ordered the Matcha latte; sometimes Matcha lattes can be too sweet or too heavy on the Matcha for me, but I thought the one here had a great balance of sweet/creamy/bitter. We had the Chorizo Bowl and Breakfast Burrito. Both were decent, but a bit pricey. Service was prompt and friendly. They do make excellent espresso/coffee drinks. I had some time between appointments this morning, so I stopped by Sheldon's for some coffee and breakfast. It's always nice because you sit out on their covered patio, which is nice and peaceful. During the afternoon, the have the water misters on to help cool the patio down. This morning I had a Lavender Cappuccino, which was delish. I also ordered the Lox Bagel. So fresh and good. The chef took the time to roll the lox into a cute little flower. It was fresh, with fresh vegetables, and perfect. The other huge plus of this meal was the customer service. The chef noticed that I had taken some of the lox off because it was a very generous portion. He brought another bagel to use for the extra salmon. PLUS, he brought me the cutest little dessert. It was half a chocolate muffin with whipped cream and fresh fruit. I was so impressed with customer service and attention given to their customers. If you are in the area stop by. It's worth it. I got the chorizo bowl with hash browns. The hash browns were nice and crunchy, but they ran out after 5-6 bites. There was maybe 1/2 a cup worth or so? Not enough. It made finishing the bowl awkward because it was super eggy after the potatoes ran out. I also found a piece of uncooked sausage near the end of my bowl. Hopefully this doesn't give me bubble guts tonight. The Pico de Gallo was also a few hours too old for my taste. Wifey got the sausage eggs Benedict. I'm usually classic but they serve it with bacon instead of ham- it was crispy and salty, eggs poached perfectly, muffins buttered and soft. A tad more hollandaise would be my preference but you can order extra- I'm greedy. I love that they offer hash browns which we split- they were good, crispy and tender all at the same time, served just warm- but I still prefer them to home fries. Got cold brew, iced coffee, breakfast burrito and a Sheldon's breakfast bowl. We were both very underwhelmed by our meals. My breakfast burrito had only a couple tiny pieces of bacon bits in the whole thing. So it was pretty much all egg, and didn't have much flavor. His breakfast bowl LOOKED really delicious. The bacon was cooked perfectly. But besides that, underwhelmed again. The hash browns were barely cooked and very mushy and bland. Not much flavor. And came with a side of guac which was more like mashed avocado cause there was also not much flavor there. We thought the chipotle salsa would be delicious but didn't really like it. This little coffee shop is a very nice addition to the community of La Mesa. They make coffees and teas but also provide a small breakfast and lunch menu and with the availability of scones and pastries. I was in need of a little breakfast so I ordered the Milanese Avocado Toast served on a Sadie Rose multigrain toast topped with avocado, tomatoes, Burrata, and a some reduced sweet balsamic vinegar for I believe was $13. it was suppose to come with arugula but for some reason they left that part out. Now, the Sadie Rose toast was great and they are smart to use it. It was a good girth to hold up well to the ingredients on top, not to mention very tasty as well. I love avocado on my toast but I prefer it freshly sliced and not pre made, smashed, and then placed on the toast. When I see avocado toast on the menu, the first thing that comes to my mind is sliced avocado. This was mashed with some larger pieces mixed in. It tasted okay but it could of benefited from some seasoning. The peppery arugula would of helped out here. The tomato slices were fresh and juicy and the Burrata cheese, which is always a treat, was very good. The cheese was light and very creamy with a mild flavor. I liked the sweet balsamic sauce was good and went well with all the components but I did feel it was a little heavy handed on the plate. I also ordered a Cafe au Lait and it was very well made. It had a great robust flavor and a great smoothness aided but the hot steamed milk. The girls at the counter where I ordered were all very nice and friendly. 3.5 stars. First time there and I will definitely go back; I had the chorizo breakfast bowl and it was really good. Sufficient quality chorizo in egg layered over hashbrowns, some Pico and Cotija cheese(nice touch), A delicious smoky red salsa and decent guac. Perfect portion too. My friends got sandwiches, soup, breakfast burrito and seemed totally pleased, with the tomato soup getting extra praise for its heartiness. I got a cinnamon roll for us to share for dessert and honestly it was quite average, unfortunately being compared to a recently devoured one from liberty station's Con Pane which are ALL WORLD.
